Im thinking of getting the galaxy note 2.. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

But I hate that home button, and looks like a bigger s3. I have grown a soft spot for soft navigation buttons, all the customizations you can do to it. I dont want to leave the galaxy nexus but with upcoming rumors, no one knows what it will be or who will manufacture it or when it will be released or how many?
This galaxy nexus needs the specs bumped up quite a bit, including a better camera etc. Are any of you guys jumping ship and going for the note?

Very interested in the note 2.

I'm in the same boat as you. My only complaint with the Gnex is the sub par camera and the weak battery (yes i got the 2100 mAh too). There are rumors of another nexus to drop in November, also a 5.5" HTC phone. Too bad I can't have them all. #Firstworldproblems.

Or what about the HTC one X+?
Did they ever fix their multi tasking issue? I know the build quality of htc is much better than samsungs.

Aside from the hardware home button I like the form factor of the Note 2... then I look at the original Note, see that it's still on Gingerbread and suddenly realize that if it isn't branded as a "Nexus" device, it'll probably be stuck on whatever version of Android it ships with forever.
No thanks.

go ahead and leave. they all come back, they always do :cyclops:

I hate the fact that the note 2 just looks like a bigger gs3, the physical home button is basically the deal breaker for me. The htc one x+ also has those permanent navigation buttons, and for at&t they wont even be that cool red color but white. at least thats what I see from the at&t one x+ pics.
I'm worried the new nexus wont be made by samsung and will lose the led notifications and soft nav buttons, which to me visually keeps me hooked with its customizations..

This is true, but probably a smart move with the note 2 or htc one x+. With the google nexus usually software is available immediately. I'm going to stay nexus, I'd just like them to hurry it up already and release some info lol.

Smart move...your gonna spend 600+ on a phone that does nothing new I came from a galaxy S1 that's a big jump the only thing that would make me jump is a sd card slot or a large amount of storage my nexus got 500mb left and a better display galaxy nexus display look great

yes.. that would piss me off.
Like the Article says. This industry is moving so fast forward that every week there will be handsets with better hardware out, so we don't have any reason to be "mad" on Google/Samsung for improving the phones.
The same thing happened to my first android, the HTC Magic. It later came out a improved version (MyTouch3G), and for my second handset the SGS (Samsung Galaxy S Plus).
Technology is a ugly ***** that seems to be on your side for one week, then bite you in the ass the next week.
Just my 2 cents on the matter.
It is kind of annoying, you pay 'X' amount for a phone, or upgrade for a price and then so-and-so gets more RAM (T-MOUS, HD2) or more storage in the case of the Nexus Prime.
I think the only time it's worked in reverse, that I know of, was the early HTC Desires had AMOLED screens and latter versions had LCD.
I can see why people go for iPhones, at least they are only moving the goal posts once a year!
Only thing that would bother me is if they use displays and radios that don't have all these issues.
Yeah I would love the faster cpu and graphics, but having a display and radio that works is #1 priority.
My guess if true is new model coming out for sprint, I don't think that coming out until June so sounds about right by then ours would have been 7 months old.

I've only recently come across people with screen issues. Aside from white backgrounds looking a little like linen when using very low screen brightness, not that the linen-type pattern bothers me at all. I've been pretty impressed with the SAMOLED HD screens.
I've avoided Samsung phones for a long time as I didn't like the look or build quality of past devices, but so far so good for me...
*touches wood*
This won't happen because the whole point of a Nexus phone is to have a stable platform for each new OS. This having a new SoC, and this long after the official Nexus release means it's probably a false rumour. 99% false I would say. All Nexus phones so far have ALL been on 1 standard SoC, just how Google wants it to be.
BUT, if they DO release such a phone, the original Galaxy Nexus owners would be so royally pissed~

This is the most sensible comment I've seen yet regarding this stupid rumor. If Google and Samsung released a Sprint Galaxy Nexus with a different SoC, they'd have to maintain two different sets of updates.
This is just some joker who fooled nenamark by using a build.prop hack.
Maybe not a joke, but a tester who needed a working market fingerprint for 4.0.3. For all we know, its a tablet.
This would almost be like taking the Nexus line and making it a carrier exclusive to like Verizon or something..
Not what Nexus is about.

If I keep screen at 100% brightness then it is not noticeable and I can live with it. But there goes my battery life. I like to keep it at auto brightness..oh well think going to call verizon and tell them to send me an extended battery for free least they can do.

I'm leaning heavily toward bogus rumor but it is not a totally different soc. So who knows. Would make a lot of people happy and a lot more passed off that already purchased a nexus. I'm in the boat that would keep mine and be happy with what I got unless the "upgraded" nexus mysteriously has same or better battery life.

Samsung/Google won't do it without a model change. This would be unprecedented in the Nexus world. I really doubt it would happen. The only other change to hardware like this would be the Nexus One moving to S-LCD, but lets face it, that was out of necessity.

WOuld u trade your GNEX FOR A GNOTE IF U COULD?

i m making a big decision tomorrow . im still debating whether i should buy a gal nexus or a gal note . i dont mind a 5.3 inch screen but i also lovePURE ICS. if it was you guys and you have the money tomorrow to choose, will u still pick the nexus or go for the note?
Nah.. I love my gnex because I never have to worry about not having the lastest and greatest android OS... 5.3 inch is too big for me already also hut I do like the screen on the gnote and the stylus functionality...
I'll still go with the GN. Note looks nice but GN is still better in every way IMHO

Way too f***ing big. And it'll never have stock ICS or be up to date.
This is my first phone from Nexus series, but i already love it very much so my next phone will be Nexus too, unless Google/Samsung will mess up something. One of the examples would be 5.3" screen, that would definitely stop me from buying it.
So my answer is no, i wouldn't buy GNote even if it was with 80% discount.

CM9 is not stock ICS. And it isn't OTA'd to my phone. I realize you can root and flash a custom ICS ROM on any device. What if I don't want to? Being able to root and ROM a phone isn't a selling point for me. I like the freedom, but I don't want to buy a phone that I have to root just to get the experience I want.

I owned a GNex, then sold it for a Note (International). I then sold the Note and bought another Gnex.
The grass isn't greener, particularly if you already have a laptop or Android tablet.
The Note is nice, but having the latest OS on a phone that works on any GSM network (TMo 3G, ATT 3G, etc) is awesome. You can use it on any GSM carrier with 3G. I have a TMo SIM ($30 unlimited plan) that I refill now and again when ATT pisses me off. It's a beautiful thing.
How can you compare the note...or any other device to a Nexus line device? LMAO
Listen OP, any other device that gets released gets forgotten about for the next big thing...but not the Nexus.
Its google's baby, it gets the support from google, it gets the most ROM's, it gets everything first.
The note gets compared to the Galaxy Nexus, next month it will be the next big Android device being compared to the Galaxy Nexus as the note is forgotten. Over and over until there is a new king...a new Nexus.
Forget any other device and just go with the Galaxy Nexus or you'll be sorry...Give it a few months and people will not be able to even trade a note for a Galaxy Nexus. It happens all the time.
DOnt forget NFC
I agree with Adreno..... the kind of dev attention GN is getting , Note will never imagine .....plus all the benefits mentioned in above post.
we tend to forget GN NFC capabilities because there's not much happening on that front at present i guess, but rest assured GN will be the first phone to commercially use stable apps for NFC if not already; that alone makes it competition proof for quite some time
Personally i wouldnt trade for a note. I absokutely love my nexus. Plus the nexus screen pixel density is higher than the note, so it looks more crisp. And its pure ICS with google updates.

Actually the size of Gnex screen is already pushing my limit. But its design works so it's working well for me now. I think the screen size of Gnex is the biggest that I will go for a phone.
[Sorry, wrong thread]
The writing and drawing capabilities are top notch. If any of these guys had the juice to make a CDMA phone that didn't suck, I'd take the hit and trade now. The Nexus is already a big ugly beast.

how do you guys feel about being limited to 16 gig of storage? And correct me if im wrong but looks like the note has more roms now than the nexus. But nexus development is far from done. Im gonna buy one of these phone and im still undecided. Damn......

Just bought a Galaxy S3...

...and am selling it again.
Ive had a GN since it came out, and an S2 for a year prior, which I loved, for the most part. I had great hopes for the S3 but was massively disappointed. Its a great phone in many respects, but the touchWiz (Which is better than S2 but still sucks) UI lets it down. The keyboard is woeful. The messaging app suck. Many of the features border on "gimmicky". I know many of these issues can be solved by replacing stock apps but seems such a shame seeing as such strides were made by Google with Android 4.
Anyone else dabbled with an S3?
Be prepared for the CBS's man.. I wanna get one to try it out
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
The CBS?
I've messed around with one. Its a decent device but nothing I would call next-gen.
My girlfriend just got one yesterday. Had a play with it when she reluctantly handed it over. Seems very nice tbh . If I got one as a straight swap for my nexus I'd probably go for it. Would root it though and get touchwiz off it asap. .
My workmate has just got one, they are nice phones hardware wise but not significantly better than the Nexus and, yeah, Touchwiz still sucks.
S voice lags the phone, s beam is just a lazy way to configure wifi direct, smart stay is kinda cool though it's not that hard to set a few seconds delay between screen off and lock just in case ... so again I can't really see any killer features to make me want to upgrade.
I'm so happy with the gnex at this stage I might actually keep a phone for a year this time, unless a new nexus comes out in that time of course.

Hah. Nice. So the Galaxy S4 might be released as soon as Februrary 2013 with the following rumored features (from the article):
1) A 5" SAMOLED display which may or may not be the new flexible tech. (Getting into Note territory here...)
2) Will have a quad-core exynos or qualcomm cpu
3) The design may be different for each US carrier again (bummer)
And I loved this quote :
The S4 will see some external changes but retain its popular rectangular shape with rounded corner concept,’’ said an official from one of Samsung’s local partners.

hmmmmmmmm....... I'm waiting to see what HTC would come up... Some of their designs badly need a successor... say, the HTC Desire Z, it was the last phone they made with a keyboard.... and that was about 3 years ago already.... I'm quite a fan of phones with keyboards, so I'm also gonna be interested what Samsung would put out witha keyboard... Now that I'm on the samsung bandwagon, I'm quite inclined to get a samsung phone...
but yeah, nice to see the S4 is already under development... but I'm afraid 5" of screen is too big for me already... The S3 is on a sweet spot on it's size, still fairly big for me, but does have some advantages. Meanwhile, the Note, when I saw it... it looked amazing... but simply, the screen was too big.... so I skipped it and here came the S3

I'm holding out for the Note 5... or maybe the S6. I just can't decide.
I realize this is a totally subjective topic, but if the 5" screen size rumor holds true, this would suck moose junk in my opinion, unless the plan is to decrease bezel of current sized S3 handset to accomodate more screen.
I sold the Note to move to the S3 specifically because that phone was freakishly and totally unnecessarily gargantuan, so I hate to think that Samsung is moving that direction with the S4 also.
Again, my hope is that they bring the screen out further toward the edges on the same size handset as the S3 currently is, but if not, I think it's HTC time for me, come next Sept when I'm for upgrade.

Agreed, I was hesitant to go to the S3 because 4.8 sounded too big as my kid had a infuse 4g at 4.5...but they figured out how to make the 4.8 the same size basically as the infuse so hopefully they do this again as I just dont think I can go bigger than the S3. I would look for this to be out in June/July just like this year. I will be halfway through my contract so it wont matter much to me...

Then use bluetooth, or a headset, or speakerphone, and if you don't want to, why care what other people think for fraction of time that you hold it up to your ear? 99% of the time we're using our phones as computers, so the larger the screen the better. I don't want a big ass phone. I'm only 5'3 and my hands are far from being the largest. If the phone was any larger then I'd have trouble holding it properly. I also just don't like the look of the larger phones. When I see the note I think to myself it is ugly because it is so big.
People other than me may find the larger size more welcome or be indifferent, I just don't want the phone to get any larger.
Can't wait till we start rockin 25 inch phones. That will awesome! Can't wait for 2023!!

Buy vzw HTC ONE now or wait for the nexus 5?

Hey all-
I am in the middle of a dilemma, I currently own a VZW galaxy nexus and it is on its last leg. The battery is shot, takes forever to connect calls, and is slow. I have been trying to baby it till the nexus 5 comes out but it is so annoying using a phone that is slow. I have been looking into the HTC one (my previous phone was the HTC incredible and I loved it). But I cant decide if I should try and wait for the N5? I understand that the HTC One as of now cannot achieve S-off/Root, but I am assuming it is only a matter of time till developers crack it.(thank you to all the great developors on XDA!) so what would you do in my situation? Wait for the N5 or go with the One?
I am really drawn to the one for the metal body and the new sense seems pretty nice, IMHO the S4 is to gimmiky.

Who's to say that the Nexus 5 is coming to Verizon unless you plan on switching carriers.. You weren't really clear on that aspect. There is a great deal of new devices that are coming out soon which should make for an exciting fall and Q4..
Also on a side note never buy a device with the assumption that the developer community will unlock, root, s-off the device you plan to buy. With devices coming out so frequently and OEMs becoming smarter with the way they are locking down their devices it's a game of cat and mouse or hit or miss if you will......
I recently purchased the HTC One just because it's an amazing device, that is with the hopes the the real deal hackers crack the bootloader to achieve s-off, unlock, root etc...
Right now I am in the same boat. I have waited this long what's another month or two to see what the Nexus 5 has in store?
Yes it may mean changing carriers which sucks but Verizon has done everything to sabotage the htc one (4 months late, no black model, quickly locking it down) that they no longer deserve my business...
So I will wait to see what the fall phones bring before making a decision at this point.
As soon as you wait for one device to arrive, another ridiculous phone is right around the corner. It's an endless cycle.
I was in the same boat. HTC Incredible > Galaxy Nexus > ? I considered the Nexus 5 but between the solid rumors it is going to be an LG (my least favorite oem) and the fact VZW let the N4 pass it by I opted to go with the HTC One.
Got it day 2 expecting to unlock it. No such luck but not having root after coming from a Gnex has not been a big deal. The HTC One is sooo awesome compared to the Gnex. The only things I miss from root/roms is long press back button kill (more of a habit than an issue), some of the Sense screens (Like the battery usage screen). They are such picky things I have no regrets moving to the One.
Did I mention that while my Gnex needed 1 to 2 charges throughout the day to make it to bedtime but the one can stay off the charger and with similar usage has 40% left. With heavy usage I got to 14% once after 16 hours on battery. Battery and sluggishness drove me to a new phone and I am glad it was the HTC One.
I agree with all of you, however I plan on staying with vzw.... What phones other than the n5 are coming out? There is the new lg buy I cannot stand the volume rocker on the back....is there any other phones that have been confirmed to be with big red?

I assume the Note 3 will be on all carriers.

Yeah I would assume the Note 3 would most likely come to Verizon as well being that it is the primary and most popular phablet to date..
Nexus 5 definitely won't show up on Verizon. The only other great phone left this year on Verizon will likely be the G2. That looks to be even more powerful than the HTC One and a larger screen. I don't care for it because its LG and their android skin is horrendous. I also could never get a plastic phone after having an HTC One. Its your call though of course!
I've sort of stopped playing the "should I get it or wait?" game because the smartphone market has just become so insane. Once you get a phone, a newer, better one is right around the corner. I got the HTC One knowing the bootloader got locked up, and I'm really enjoying it...even stock it's nice. I mean, I can't wait to put other roms on it, but nevertheless, it's awesome.
I also had a similar smartphone trajectory. OG Droid -> DInc-> GNex
In April I bought the S4, but really wanted The One. So last week I sold my s4 on craigslist and bought The One. It is fantastic as is. My contract is finally up in December, and coincidentally my discount expired this month. So if the N5 comes out and looks substantially better than The One, I will sell The One on swappa or craigslist or ebay. My point is go ahead and buy the phone, if you want something newer in the future you can always sell it and get another phone, though you may take a small loss. The One is amazing and although 6 months old I can hardly believe it will feel "outdated" in even a year....
encyvrs providence
I would stop waiting and just get the one. I came from the GNexus and the one is better in every way. faster, better screen, better battery, better speakers and sound etc.
My thought is that if there is a phone out I want I'll get it vs waiting. If you decide to wait for the next best thing you'll never get a phone. They come out so fast now.

Thanks for all of your responses! I think I am going to go ahead and get the one! I am in the design industry and I have been waiting for a beautiful android and the one is it! Going out this week and getting it,
The N5 will most likely not be anywhere near Verizon/Sprint so might as well get a One.

Hey all-
I am in the middle of a dilemma, I currently own a VZW galaxy nexus and it is on its last leg. The battery is shot, takes forever to connect calls, and is slow. I have been trying to baby it till the nexus 5 comes out but it is so annoying using a phone that is slow. I would get a one now if it has the nokia microphones and I think they still carry this feature. One HTC runs out of stock for these you probably won't see them in any other device in the future other than windows phones since microsoft is buying nokia. I listened to a few comparison videos on youtube and those microphones make a huge difference in recording capability. Htc ones with these mics will probably have high resale value later on down the road.

Microsoft isn't buying Nokia from any source I've read... In fact from what I understand nokie is thinking of backing out of the partnership they currently have...

I bought the one...it was nice. I returned it and am waiting for the Moto X to hit retail stores so I can Czech it out. I like as stock of an Android experience as possible, and the X looks like the best choice in that dept.
With the One, the build is awesome, the screen is great and the front facing speakers are amazing. The overlay I didn't care for (icons still remind me of my 2.2 Thunderbolt) and I thought the camera was terrible (even in direct comparison to my aging S3).
But, I think right now it's at least in the top 2 phones on Verizon, and I don't think you can go wrong with it.
