WOuld u trade your GNEX FOR A GNOTE IF U COULD? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

i m making a big decision tomorrow . im still debating whether i should buy a gal nexus or a gal note . i dont mind a 5.3 inch screen but i also lovePURE ICS. if it was you guys and you have the money tomorrow to choose, will u still pick the nexus or go for the note?

Nah.. I love my gnex because I never have to worry about not having the lastest and greatest android OS... 5.3 inch is too big for me already also hut I do like the screen on the gnote and the stylus functionality...

I'll still go with the GN. Note looks nice but GN is still better in every way IMHO
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Way too f***ing big. And it'll never have stock ICS or be up to date.

This is my first phone from Nexus series, but i already love it very much so my next phone will be Nexus too, unless Google/Samsung will mess up something. One of the examples would be 5.3" screen, that would definitely stop me from buying it.
So my answer is no, i wouldn't buy GNote even if it was with 80% discount.

you're not going to find too many people in the galaxy nexus forums that will tell you to trade it in for a galaxy note...go to the galaxy note forums and you'll get the opposite.

Also true. XDA is a bad place to ask for opinions because the respective forums will always be biased towards their phone

CM9 is not stock ICS. And it isn't OTA'd to my phone. I realize you can root and flash a custom ICS ROM on any device. What if I don't want to? Being able to root and ROM a phone isn't a selling point for me. I like the freedom, but I don't want to buy a phone that I have to root just to get the experience I want.

That's not exclusive to XDA. That's any community/forum.

I owned a GNex, then sold it for a Note (International). I then sold the Note and bought another Gnex.
The grass isn't greener, particularly if you already have a laptop or Android tablet.
The Note is nice, but having the latest OS on a phone that works on any GSM network (TMo 3G, ATT 3G, etc) is awesome. You can use it on any GSM carrier with 3G. I have a TMo SIM ($30 unlimited plan) that I refill now and again when ATT pisses me off. It's a beautiful thing.

How can you compare the note...or any other device to a Nexus line device? LMAO
Listen OP, any other device that gets released gets forgotten about for the next big thing...but not the Nexus.
Its google's baby, it gets the support from google, it gets the most ROM's, it gets everything first.
The note gets compared to the Galaxy Nexus, next month it will be the next big Android device being compared to the Galaxy Nexus as the note is forgotten. Over and over until there is a new king...a new Nexus.
Forget any other device and just go with the Galaxy Nexus or you'll be sorry...Give it a few months and people will not be able to even trade a note for a Galaxy Nexus. It happens all the time.

DOnt forget NFC
I agree with Adreno..... the kind of dev attention GN is getting , Note will never imagine .....plus all the benefits mentioned in above post.
we tend to forget GN NFC capabilities because there's not much happening on that front at present i guess, but rest assured GN will be the first phone to commercially use stable apps for NFC if not already; that alone makes it competition proof for quite some time

Personally i wouldnt trade for a note. I absokutely love my nexus. Plus the nexus screen pixel density is higher than the note, so it looks more crisp. And its pure ICS with google updates.

Love galaxy nexus first phone I didn't want to theme the mms or phone dialer...

No, it's too big.
Actually the size of Gnex screen is already pushing my limit. But its design works so it's working well for me now. I think the screen size of Gnex is the biggest that I will go for a phone.

[Sorry, wrong thread]

The writing and drawing capabilities are top notch. If any of these guys had the juice to make a CDMA phone that didn't suck, I'd take the hit and trade now. The Nexus is already a big ugly beast.

GSM Galaxy Nexus going on eBay - Galaxy Note en route

I've thoroughly enjoyed my short ownership of this device, but after the OMG nature of ICS wore off, it's really just an average phone.
I've ordered a Galaxy Note and will be here Monday. Despite touchwiz, slow updates, blabla, the Note just seems like an incredible device that can finally allow me to leave my laptop behind.
Not trolling, just posting as others may find interest in the Note once the newness of the Nexus wears off.
If you are interested in buying direct, PM me. I will be very fair on the price if it's done outside of eBay's ridiculous fees. Steinheil protector + spare, case and absolutely mint with everything.
No, this isn't an ad for my phone. It's jut a post that's intended to generate discussion on the comparison.
To be honest I would have purchased a note also, but it won't work with T-Mobile 3g. I love my nexus though, and the development on here will make it truely remarkable

I came from a note and got the nexus and I don't regret returning the note at all. The note had very bad color banding or at least mine did. Also videos were horrible due to a halo effect that would show up in a white background. I hope it was just my unit but it seems like many were having the same issue as I did. The only thing I liked much more about the note was the battery life. Would last me sometimes 3 days! Nexus doesn't even come close...

i just did the opposite! i bought a gsm note to use on ATT but it had several issues. had problems with the capacitive touch buttons not working after phone calls. the phone would also shut it self off randomly. i returned it because of those problems. if it wasnt for that it was a really cool phone. the extra screen real estate was nice for games and web sites.
I'm not saying this because I have a Nexus, but I find it hard to understand how you find it just an average phone. The camera is about the only average thing about it, everything else runs so well in ICS which makes the experience as a whole so much more coherent.
The only thing I'd really wish for at the moment would be an LTE version for GSM carriers.

Yeah, I considered that, but ATT will drop the legendary Exoynos processor because it isn't compatible with LTE.
That and who knows how ATT will handle grandfathered unlimited plans that try to go to LTE. I simply don't trust them to let me keep it.
6mbps is plenty fast since I don't tether.

Hello better phone with ICS in the pipeline? Wacom digitizer and all.
Different strokes, I guess. I've owned the Nexus One, Nexus S, SGSII, EVO. Pure google, while nice, ends up being modded to hell anyway by most, so it's not an issue for me personally. I don't like touchwiz, but that's fixable with launchers.
If the Note was going to be on Verizon I would have thought about it. If it gets a CM9 port then it could be a killer phone. My brother-in-law imported one for his AT&T line and I got to play with it. VERYYY NICE.

I have nothing to prove to anyone. Just think the 2500 mAh battery, wacom digitizer and real-estate of the Note are worthy advantages.
Not going to launch into an I'VE FOUND THE JESUS PHONE debate. Most all modern phones are pretty close in performance/features anyway.
Just my preference. The Nexus is a great device, but not the absolute best ever. If it didn't have ICS, this forum would be lit up with endless *****ing.

You shouldn't need to make a thread to justify your decision. Cool, you're going to the Galaxy Note, good luck. The Galaxy Nexus forum will continue the way it is without you.
If you didn't want a debate about Galaxy Nexus vs. Galaxy Note, then just post up your ad in the marketplace and be on your way. Simple as that.

It's basically sold already, but thanks for the slap.
By the way, its not an ad. I simply mentioned it's available if anyone was interested, which several are so far.

What are your thoughts on the Note vs. the Nexus?
Ok, so I feel that I've ruffled feathers. Will a mod please move this to the for sale forum so I can be a good senior member like I have been since 2006?
That way, XDA homeostasis is reached for all.
Thanks.
There are rumors that the Note is coming to ATT early next year with LTE. Nice, right? Except there is one problem...
They are replacing the Exynos with a Snapdragon S3.
They also had to do this with the Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile because the Exynos chipset apparently has problems playing nicely with high speed networks such as LTE and T-Mobiles 42 Mbps HSPA+ network.
Will make it exceptionally difficult to dev for. And since it's basically a different device with a different SoC, kiss frequent and timely updates goodbye.
If the Note appeals to you, go for it. Just saying, aside from the bigger screen, a S3-verison Note doesn't seem to have any huge advantage over the Nexus.
I've had both. The note is a great device, but IMO the GN is better overall.
I would of gotten a Note instead if it supported t-mobile, sigh.
I'm hoping by the time Note II comes out, samsung will have resolved the shortcomings of exynos' radios as well as samoled+ HD. I will jump all over that.

People on sprint/verizon don't get 6mbps. It's 1mbps or 4G, which do you think people would obviously prefer (barring battery issues)

Worth it to swap from T-Mo SGS2

So someone messaged me about them willing to straight swap their Galaxy Nexus with my SGS2 (T-Mobile). Was wondering if it's worth it and what would be the advantages to me swapping (aside from ics). I've read about some issues with screen banding, cracked screens on the top left (or maybe it was right), and reboot issues. How common are these issues among devices and is there any thing else I should look out for when checking the phone out if I am to swap? Thanks in advance
Edit: Also how would you compare the build quality between the 2 for anyone who's used both?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
If someone is willing to straight swap you with no money on your end, you need to make sure theres not something wrong with their GN... they're taking a big hit swapping straight over.
If it is legit, I see no reason why you'd not take up that offer.
I agree with martonikaj, I would really be suspicious of someone making that deal. The GSM Galaxy Nexus still sales for around $600 on ebay whereas the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 is selling for $400. It's really a dumb trade on their part. The GNex is going to be update more times than the GS2. ICS will most likely be the final update the GS2 will see, whereas when the GNex is on Jellybean, GS2 owners will be waiting on someone to make a rom that hopefully works well enough. Also the T-Mobile GS2 will NOT (not sure about the other GS2's) be getting the wifi display update as the S3 Snapdragon is not compatible. Then there's the difference in resolution...I'll put it this way, IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. These are just a few reasons to make the switch, there are others but I think you get the point.
yeah i would do this in an instant! i have a tmo galaxy s ii, and i bought the nexus. the S II is just sitting there. id take another nexus haha

Best thing is go to a Verizon store and feel one in hand. You will get a feel of how the GSM version is.
But as others stated if someone is doing a straight swap it sounds little fishy. If you can make sure it is in good condition then it's a no brainier for swapping.
No Verizon in Canada . Good idea though I can just pass by a Best Buy or Future Shop with a demo unit out to play with a bit and decide from there

I went from a TMO SGSII to the VZW Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus is better in every single regard, in many cases, much better.
The only way in which the TMO SGSII is better than the GSM Galaxy Nexus is that it theoretically offers better data speed (42mbps HSPA+ vs. 21mbps HSPA+). Obviously LTE on VZW crushes both.
Edit: I should add that I couldn't care less about the cameras, which I never use. There may be a slight difference there. And the Verizon Galaxy Nexus has 32gb of space -- I think the GSM one has only 16gb?
if you're trading GS II for GN without any money it's a steal.

Would you buy your nexus again?

Hello...and no offense to you nexus owners, but I was really wanting the the SG3 but big red said that I am not eligible to keep my current unlimited plan if I get one because the 28th is the deadline and my upgrade is the 30th....(sorry had to vent a little).

How difficult to root?

I am on a droid X running miui from time to time I will tether to upload files from my tablet and I would not want to loose that...
Thanks and sorry for the rant...
Very happy with my Nexus, best phone I've ever owned. Love the stock experience.
I would buy it again in a heartbeat, but I'd love to have some kind of guarantee that I would win "the screen lottery" to avoid any magenta/yellow issues.
Unlocking and rooting are simple as fastbooting and adb pushing su; the easiest since that's what the Nexus phones are all about.
USB and Wifi tethering are still in the options with Stock, or you could flash whatever ROM you want. It's a Nexus!

Only thing that's missing on this phone is a top of the line camera. I came from an SGSII, and had no problem selling my Lumix LX3 as the SGSII was good enough for most things. HTC One X and SGSIII have even better cameras, but now with the Nexus I feel I might need to purchase a digital camera again. Low light is terrible.

Absolutely would buy it again. I would not consider buying another phone that is not pentaband gsm. So no sg3 for me. Only problem I thought I had was (incorrectly) thinking it had a weak radio. Turned out it wasn't the phone, it was the pretty battery cover I bought! D'oh! My only real issue is Citibank or google wallet, can't tell which, and even that was fine till I decided to flash a new rom (search before you flash if wallet is important to you). I can't comment on the camera, I use my phone to communicate only, it works well as a video phone, I'm no photographer so don't care otherwise.

But then I wouldn't even take the Note if he was paying me $100, so I'm biased.

Straight up trade or nothing and that's only if you think you could find use out of the Note. I know quite a few store owners who love it especially for their online sales as they can just take pictures of products and doodle on it and send it out to prospective customer.
My father's colleague, who's a Apple guy, switched to a Note also for simply one reason; He could have the text large enough to use it without his glasses on .
There are use cases for the Note for sure, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it like most on here would .
On that note, I wouldn't use one personally as again, it doesn't fit my use cases.
Don't do it, especially if you like rooting and such.
Not sure Samsung ironed out the brick bug, but it's not the device to have if you want to run anything other than stock. Even doing a factory reset was bricking them. Ridiculous.
I wouldn't do it either. Just because something retails for more money doesn't mean it is actually worth more. Then Nexus is a better phone, period.
SGN is a super nice gadjet , but Nexus is the most compatible with android , if it was me , I'll *****slap him with his 100 buks and keep my phone. but this is me, maybe you have a different opinion

He should be paying you $100 plus the note to begin with, if you do it not only has he ended up with the better phone but he's robbed you $100 , just because the note retails for more new doesn't mean its the better device, look at the iPhone for example its inferior to the nexus but still costs more.
Keep your Nexus, it's still the backbone of Android.

When i thought to buy a new phone, the first on the line was the Note. So i went to stores do "meet" it. First look, i feel disconfortable by its size and start looking other phones, so i saw the Nexus and it was love at the first sight. When i held it in my hand, i knew that i´ll be my phone.
It fits perfectly.
Today i think that if i bought the Note i was regret. Not only because the size, but the OS updates and customizations.
Keep your Nexus and be happy for the rest of it´s days.
(sorry for the english)
Keep your Gnex and the $$$ , add 99 more and get the nexus7.
So you ll be complete

That phone is overpriced on retail. Don't do it. You already have the better phone of the two. Now, if we were talking about a galaxy 3...

the galaxy s3 you mean I'm sure, the galaxy 3 is a budget phone..
Iwouldn't even trade for the s3 personally, I love this phone
I have both and if its the ATT version its worth it. The dev support over there isnt bad and once you get used to the size, which I did very quickly, I don't even use the nexus anymore as the screen is so much more vibrant. Just slap on an AOSP rom and it turns the note into a great phone/tablet.

In my opinion the only S3 worht having is the international version as the US versions have been nerfed as they usually are by us carriers.
As to the OP keep your Nexus, I have friends who have the Note and they love it but development on it is nonexistant in comparison to the Nexus, heck my old Vibrant has more development going on right now.

Is it still worth it to buy GNEX

Hi, I am planning to replace my old phone to a new one.
I am currently using milestone xt720. I would like to know if it is still worth it to buy
Galaxy nexus or should I buy the newer ones. (Galaxy SII/SIII).
I considered GNEX as a replacement because the way I see it, there are so many developments going on here in its xda forum.
Are the new releases of GNEX phone better? or there are no differences?
Thanks, thats all i need to ask
It's worth it.

The phone is just awesome. If you're in for hardware, then the S3,but if you want a better software and hardware integration then the GNex, cuz it really is so much smoother now, the hardware doesn't even matter. And since it's a nexus, epic dev and updates all year round. If you do buy it, trust me, you're never gonna regret!

Exactly. It's literally like a steal for that price, especially a phone like the GNex.

I just bought one too. Can't beat it for $350. I came from Galaxy Note and I swore up and down it was the best phone ever until I got a pure nexus. Everything just work like it suppose to and with no lag at all. I will stick with the Nexus line from now on.
Yes. This is the best phone purchase I've made fwiw.

Came from HTC One X AT&T.
Trust me when I say this: The GNex GSM is exactly what google wants you to use with their services.
Everything else from Samsung, HTC, LG, etc is exactly what AT&T/Verizon/Sprint want you to use. As soon as you boot up and get a huge HTC or Samsung logo followed by a AT&T or Verizon logo, you know you've made the wrong decision.
Boot..
1) HTC logo with their stupid sound
2) AT&T logo with their stupid sound
3) WELCOME TO AT&T PLEASE USE THIS STUPID SERVICE THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR! ... or skip
4) WELCOME TO HTC PLEASE USE THIS STUPID SERVICE THAT GOOGLE ALREADY DOES BETTER! ... or skip
5) HERE ARE SOME MORE APPS THAT YOU DIDN'T INSTALL NOR CAN UNINSTALL!
You get the picture.
Stick with the unbranded: iPhone or Gnex
GNex is awesome phone, and you can't go wrong considering the price $350 and the software support. If the hardware matters more then go with the GSIII.

Definitely worth it Ive had my gnex for about a week now and its amazing. I'm coming from a nytouch 4g slide

The hardware itself is 9 months old, but considering the device is $300 - $350, and you will run JB out the box. Hells yea it's worth it. Oh and yes, the community here is awesome, lots of friendly people and devs love working on a device as open as this.
Oh and last thing, I don't know about anyone else here but once Iv'e gone to a button-less device as the GNex, I can't see myself buying a phone with capacitive buttons now.
Came from nexus s , worth it ! .
The GNex is where it's at. Not only is it a pure Google phone, but you'll be first in line for all the latest and best custom ROMs and hacks. This phone is a developer's dream!

I'll give you another side of the argument...
If money is a concern, I say wait. Buy yourself a cheap android phone and get a $30/month tmobile plan to hold off until the next Nexus comes out. I don't know if you care about it, but it's probably going to be announced in a month or two at most three. It's highly likely it will be better than the galaxy nexus in most aspects.
I believe by waiting, in the long run you will save more money and will be able to afford the new nexus easier. Once it gets announced, I don't know if you will be able to resell the galaxy nexus for close to what you paid for it. So you might end up losing more money than necessary. But if cash is no concern, then yea buy a galaxy nexus now. Personally, I don't have tons of cash to throw around so I'm using the strategy I just explained.
I have SGS2 T989 currently and been thinking to switch to GNex because I don't care about TouchWiz and I really like the so-called pure Google experience . I want to check out JB OS but I'm having a hard time finding stores with GNex loaded with JB OS (Verizon has it, but it's still ICS I think). Anyone know which stores would have the demo unit with JB OS?
Not worth 350 with possibility of new nexus device. Don't see it arriving in next month or two. More like January.
Unfortunately the hardware won't be far ahead of what's already out. All nexus devices since ONE have been small steps ahead with major sacrifices in hardware. ( bad touch screen , lousy cameras , weak gpu) no manufacture has given AAA hardware effort for a nexus phone.
An s3 will be a smart choice with the built in community likely getting OS updates out much quicker than other phones.
