Hey guys,
After many attempts and long hours of research and trial and error, I have decided that none of the Sprint GS3 roms will work completely on the CSpire GS3. All functions work properly with the exception of data. I have pulled my stock PRL and loaded it to several different roms after a fresh flash and not once was data achieved. That tells me that there is either some settings that need to be altered or some code needs to be changed. I unfortunately have a very limited understanding of coding in linux. I as well as many other new GS3 owners would really appreciate a dev looking into this matter. Contact me and I will be willing to get you whatever information you need. Thank you very much?
I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but i felt that since this could result in a new rom, that the devs needed to see this post.

OK so i pulled my RIL file and flashed CM10 pasted RIL in LIB and rebooted, still no data. If this is not the correct way for use stock RIL in CM10 please let me know. It appears as if CM10 does not know how to control my radio. Any devs wanna help tackle this project? If so there would be many CSpire GS3 owners that would be very appreciative.
Ya why go and post in the wrong section? Its not like people didnt respond to your other one. I've personally PM'd 3 or 4 people in the other thread including the OP of both. Posting in the wrong section is not going to help you here. Try answering the people who offered help already rather than pissing off others by posting the same thing here

Trust me, I voiced what most people think. If every one who had a question for a dev, would start a new thread in development, then it will just become a question and answer thread. Only development belongs there.
Thankfully it's in the right section now and hopefully someone can help you guys.

Jesus Christ the mods here are bad enough without wannabe mods running around. Get a life
If you could pul to RIL files from the stock rom on your phone you could possibly replace them
edit... looks like you tried that. did you try it with a sprint prl?

No. Currently on cspire 20005 prl. And without a flashable prl file I'm not willng to risk flashing a sprint prl.
Back the PRL up with DFS or CDMA WS. And the PRL is irrelevant here, pretty sure

Cant get dfs or qpst to see my phone so cant back up prl. But I'm in agreement that I dont think the prl is the issue. I think it has to do with something in the code being different for our phones. Maybe something along the lines of the issues that the verizon users were having with the RIL. I'm away from my computer so I cant get u a copy of my stock nandroid backup, but will do that as soon as I get home from work around 3 this morning central time.

I got one posted in the other thread. Straight up restored it to my sprint gs3. Works better than the actual sprint one. I made a ROM and Odin restore which I'll post in a minute.
AND TO ANY STOCK ROOTED USERS ON SPRINT: I recommend flashing it. Works perfect and stock tethering is fully functional. Worth trying out
Did you try to flash any tw roms? It might be something in the rom. Try the jb leak for the sprint one. Might get lucky

So were are all the new EC05 roms with one flash. currently we have to use odin and flash..... this sucks....
So if people are gonna build EC05 custom roms or anyother for that matter then please keep this in mind
1. no ext 4 with journaling disabled.
2. keep carrier iq as we can not be sure what is broken by removing it. and sprint has it their for a reason...
3. keep all sprint programs and just add the ones you want to to the custom rom.
4. make touch wiz the standard interface (it really is awsome)
5. keep it as stock as possible.

Um, this is posted on the wrong forum first off. secondly, Wouldnt that just be a stock EC05 rom rooted?
Seriously? This again, so you want a bone stock 'custom rom' as you would call it....lol.....the madness around here lately.....
Just flash the stock rom and call it good. No need to make a thread requesting a stock rom.
Yea, I agree. I love having Sprint spy on me, and rfs is soo much better, and who DOESNT like Sprint bloatware? Chefs, cook that up immediately! Im sure everybody here agrees with us too! Chefs..Snap snap...Hold the Odin

RFS is a poor choice compared to EXT4. Why anyone would want a ROM that uses it is beyond me, but it may be a good idea to have the ROMs as RFS/EXT4 capable when possible, but where not, EXT4 is by far the better option

I doubt much support will be gained for leaving in CIQ. Most ROMs are built to remove as much bloat as possible, and CIQ certainly fall into that category.

Counterproductive. In most cases, ROMs are made to be as slim as possible. the better way is to have a single update.zip file that installs the stock and/or extra apps

Then what is the point? Most ROMs are trying to improve on stock as much as possible. any one wanted a "close to stock' ROM, can just root and install a modded kernel, and be at that point already. ROMs mostly aim to branch out as far as possible from stock, going above and beyond the stock experience.

First, this section is for development, not just talking about development. So if you start a thread here, people expect you to be developing something.
Second, the ROM you are requesting has already been developed and published by Sprint/Samsung.

Ha... this thread just made my day.. the ego.. the posted responses are correct.. odin flash ec05, use clockwork 2.5.5 to keep your rfs and gain root.. and your rom will be as u requested. No need to mandate that our devs waste their time making u a rom when they should be worrying about the rest of us who want something that's actually better than stock

Hey all I am rather new to the rooting/ROM scene. I was big into jailbreaking iphones but finally saw the light and switched to android.
So I have a T-mobile Galaxy S3 with stock 4.1.1 android, I have it rooted and I used ROM manager to flash ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.2.3.
I have not ventured into the ROM world yet but I would like to know which would be the most stable? Also do you lose all data everytime you flash a ROM? If that is the case that would probably dissuade me from doing it
Is there anything else that is recommended for a rooted phone with custom recovery?
Thanks guys!
I forgot to add that I am wondering about custom modems.. I live in a very rural area and I normally only have Edge network. Would this even be worth doing?

Ummmm..... YEH. A nandroid backup!!!!! Before u go ahead and tranform your phone into decepticon! Lol
Cmw, is good but I use the one from goo manager. I think their both capable of a backup!
Then afterwards have a go at it with 4.2 roms.. almost stable but still a few bugs
And touchwiz roms which are pretty much stable 4.0.4, 4.1.1 and. Soon to include 4.1.2 touchwiz roms <---- im waiting for that one
As long as u flash d2tmo roms u shouldn't come across any data problems even more so with touchwiz roms.

lol yea I think my brain is on overload from reading so much recently! :silly:
. You can try cyanogenmod they are usually pretty stable with all bloatware removed. Well you can always have an app like titanium backup or rom toolbox that can back up your data every time you want to flash a new rom then restore it. OK so read this carefully there's a thread that you need to find so you CAN BACK UP YOUR EMEI, if you don't know what that is its sort it like the brain of your phone you messed that up and it could become paperweight. Back up that nvfolder... also with CWR backup your current stock rom in case something goes bad you can always go back to something stable. Also don't flash other modems that's not from tmobile this will Brick your device. Since you seem pretty new don't go and flash att roms or kernels some say they have done it with no issue but again your fairly new.

I do apologize but with a fiance, five kids, full time job, and something Always needing done at the house, I don't have the same amount of time as some people. I read as much and research as much as I possibly can. I trust what some of the senior members on this site have to say.
It is not a question of being lazy it is a request for information from those that know more than I do and can direct me in the right direction.
I have read about many different ROMs but I am not sure as to which one is the most stable and offer less risk of potential issues.
I like the look of the Jelly Bam ROM but it is not for the T-mobile S3.

No problem here to help like others helped me. Your emei is a bunch of numbers that gives your phone identity, to your carrier. When flashing, modding themes your emei might mysteriously mess up hence why you need to back it up. Some say cwm is causing it so they prefer the touch recovery others still use cwm without issue. Also never give out those numbers they are personnel to your phone, someone who's tech savvy enough could get it.

yea I read some about it a few minutes ago and I get what it is. Seems like you are def SOL if you screw that up!
A friend of mine lost his phone in Baltimore one weekend and someone found it and posted all over his facebook, we called the service provided and they blacklisted the phone using his EMEI number but also told us that the phone would be a brick after they did it. My friend called his phone and the guy wanted him to pay hundreds to get it back...some people lol.
@OP here is the thread that will help you back up your IMEI. It was the very first thing I did when I got this phone, even before Rooting. If you do lose your IMEI, this will inject it back in.
I suggest that you go into the Dev section and read a few OPs (do you know the difference between AOSP and TWiz ROMs?). Find a few you like and then go in and read about the last 10 pages to get a feel for bugs. If you find one you like, then start reading.
2 things:
First, since you have 5 kids and budding family, you need something that is consistantly working. For this I do not suggest jumping into the "flashing custom ROMs pool" feet first into a 4.2.1 ROM. Those, while some are stable for crack flashers and tweakers, are still WIPs. Play with the ability you have now -> Root. Contrary to some, Rooting does not mean flashing. there are several things you can do with Root that don't rely on flashing a new ROM or Kernel or Modem. Btw, DocHoliday has a modem thread where you can flash different modems(basebands) to see what works for your tower. There is also a Google.maps attached too.
Second, "Best ROM" threads always turn into a pissing match. I think that you are getting some good info in this for now, but I am going to close it when I get back to my PC. For one, you will get moderately flamed for opening a "Best ROM" thread (I closed at least 3-5 of these a day across the site) but I am giving a reprieve for a bit (until 2:30PM est) because you are getting some good advice for now.

hey guys, i just modified the liquid smooth rom cause i was bored.
all credits go to the liquid team...i really didnt do anything hard, and i dont consider myself to be a real developer now.
just wondering if anyone wants to test it out to see if it works, and give some feedback.
http://www.mediafire.com/?zj1dfa69nmyewzn
Changes made:
-removal/replacement of a few apps
-build.prop changes
-changes to updater-script
-changed boot animation
Like I said, I didn't make this to make a more optimized version of liquid smooth. It's more of an experiment/attempt to learn a bit.
Thanks.
btw gapps arent included.

im not really trying to promote it to everyone. i just did this as an experiment, and i just want to know if its booting ok, not force closing apps, etc. so that i know whether or not to change something.
How about you test it out yourself before asking others to risk trying it. Just a simple piece of advice.

Feedback:
Who'd want to "Test" a rom from a non-developer, when there are many that are from DEVELOPERS, not to mention the Liquid Smooth was developed by a full team. This to me infers that you are better than a team? Oh well, if you want to try peeps, go for it, but remember, it was done by someone who says he was not a developer.
like getting on a bus with a legally blind driver!
I have no understanding why anyone would!....... and "TEST"? OMG

i clearly said in my original post, that i take no credit for this, and that all credit goes to the liquid smooth team.
By test i didnt mean to go through the whole rom and check if every single thing works. Im just asking that you flash it
and let me know if it boots fine and doenst have any major issues.
like i said, im not trying to promote this as the best rom for the s3 that everyone should start using.
no need to get all pissed...it was just a simple question. If you dont want to try it, why even post?
i understand your concern guys, but blind development happens all around XDA. if this guy today had a "Recognized Developer" tag, i bet many of you would try it out. don't underestimate the OP.
that said, make sure you do understand that there is a risk since this is a blind development, although i doubt anything would go wrong since this is just something the OP took from an already working ROM for the TMO Galaxy S III and tweaked it a bit...

+1. We can do without the drama guys. The OP is doing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary by developing blind. Yes, it is always a risk for testers, which is why he posted this here looking for the willing. If you don't want to try it, please move along and stop flaming each other. :good:

Thanks. Like you said I doubt flashing this would cause any harm. All I really did was change a couple apps and replace some pics in systemui and frameworkres.
Just make a nandroid, flash the rom, let me know if it installs/boots properly, and then just restore your nandroid.
My apologies go out to the op. He did make an effort to further improve an already outstanding rom and asking for testers is KEY. It's a great start for experimenting while increasing your knowledge on the more advanced aspects of android. Will give this a try once my S3 is fully charged!

Considering that its possible to modify firmware images and inject custom malicious code, I don't see anything wrong with questioning someone's motives for putting up a ROM that they admit they don't even remember what changes were done to it. I can understand if you think you've improved upon something but without a change log or anything there isn't really any reason to test it. Being cautious is not the same as being an ass.

I agree, there is absolutely nothing wrong with questioning something suspicious. But there are ways to do it without coming off like a jerk.
@OP I do advise adding more to the OP about the changes made if you want testers.

One thing that I hate about the internet - you can't really control how your message is taken by others. I wasn't trying to be a jerk at all.

Oh no, I wasn't aiming that towards you at all. It was just a general statement. Now let's stop spamming this thread with off topic posts
Everybody has a point to start. May be this is his point.
I swear if I was fan of 4.2 roms I would do it for you. But I already had too much headache with 4.2 roms.
Dont forget to ask original dev before you modify his work like this.
Gud luck ahead.
the rom has 6 downloads, however no one has given any feedback?
if anyone flashed it could you let me know if it works ok.
Forgive me if this has been asked a before, but I just pulled the trigger on the Virgin Mobile version of the Galaxy S3. I had been reading about the wonderful CyanogenMods that are avail, but now I think they were talking about the internation version of the phone?
I need an upgrade from my old LG Optimus V, and will be VERY disappointed if I can't CM it! WIll I be able to mod this new phone with a nifty CM after it arrives? Maybe with a Sprint CM...??

Head over to Android Forums, there is a forum specifically for rooted VM users that will give you a lot more answers. We use the Sprint ROM's, but you have to know what you are doing. CM11 runs perfectly for me, it is one of my favorite ROM's, along with CyanFox, but again, you have to know how to modify a couple of things (it's easy, don't worry) in order to flash the Sprint ROM's properly. Once you know how, the XDA forums for Sprint SGS3 are a great resource for finding other ROM's to flash.

Whew! Okay, sounds like I'm going to be fine... (I've been flashing CM ROMs on the Optimus V for, like, 3 years...so I would assume I wouldn't be too baffled by what's required to get the S3 CM'd... If there are clear instructions, I should be smilin' by next week! :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the advice!

My username is struckn over on Android Forums, check out my tutorial in the sticky thread section. It will explain everything you need to know, including how to root, how to modify Sprint ROM's, and a whole lot more. Feel free to PM me either there or here on XDA for any help or clarification.
You are a Prince, Sir! Thank you so much!
Is there a Kitkat based rom that has the look of the S5 made for the S3?
Quick look would have shown yes, please check this out. It's from my fellow teammate @saranhai

With the number of times this has been asked.....
Im just wondering if anyone has even looked in the Development section? The rom in question is pretty much always on page 1. Its the exact same as the AT&T version. Just ported.

But I need one for the USA Tmobile version of my phone, SGH-T999.
Please forgive me, and I do not mean to offend, but you have been asking this same question in many different threads for several days now. If the answers you have received are not what you want then I'm afraid that what you want simply doesn't exist.
I know you have seen Likewise, which is the one and only rom that matches what you are asking for. I know you have seen both the T-Mobile and AT&T versions, both of which will work fine on the T999. So if that's not what you want then I'm sorry, you're probably just out of luck.

Heu Doc. No need to apologize my friend. I just needed to make sure that these roms were compatible with my T999. Thats why I posted in the various forums because I don't want to risk bricking my phone in case a rom doesnt match it. Appreciate the heads up though.
I was looking at the Hypermax rom. But sadly, its not compatible with T999 being that its for the international S3.
Yeah, I'm not familiar with thst one. I can say that anything you find in our forums here will be safe though. So long as you follow the op's and heed any warnings they might have.

I greatly appreciate that and your confidence of safety. Thanks you.
Not a problem. I've tried probably half of the most recent roms (and a lot of older ones) and never had any problems (at least not any unknown/unexpected ones anyway). There will be more soon though. TMS3KK is all but ready for release, S3rx v4 is being worked on, and if I find some time I may port another one or two, just to give everyone more options!

Wow.. I cant wait to get my hands on those when they come out. I'll look them up and read up about them. This forum appreciates your hard work and diligence. On its behalf, I want to say thank you. We're lucky and proud to have you.
