My parents have been complaining about call quality. Basically they cannot understand what I'm saying most or the time.
I'm running the jb nightly
Any suggestions to fix it or any or you experiencing the same problem

I think I might be possibly having the same issue. I get complaints about call quality randomly. It's only some calls some of the time. Usually the person on the other end complains about an echo. if I hang up and call back it usually resolves it.
Is your problem intermittent or all the time?
Edit: Running stock ICS 4.0.3.
I know it. Skype quality is very fine. But the normal calls are a so bad. Open the call window -> go in the option menu and de/activate the (i dont know the word in english) "Noise suppression". Test both. After the change it should working correctly.
You can check your microphone. Do a test call with skype or some other internet call app.

Noise suppression works well on the latest CM 9.1 and AOKP builds and ICS 4.0.4 from my experience. Everything else, I can't really vouch for.

Options:
1. try different modems
2. try different kernels
3. make sure noise suppression is checked off
4. try different phone.apks
Now here is something that some dont realize but next time you are on a call and use call waiting, when you come back to the person on the original call ask if your call quality has changed. It is an issue if you go from one call to another in AOSP based roms it seems to re-create the underwater muffled sound. If you dont have this happen to you then you are lucky but I have tried this on a few of my friends phone with the same result
Edit: OP ya gotta search next time this has to be the number 1 or 2 asked question in here
I was plagued with these problems as well. No matter what rom or setup I had it never got better. Got a warranty replacement and problem solved. Hopefully it's not that but a brand spanking new device is always cool either way.

The exact search term is " Volume+ (Sound Boost) " in the android market . You can copy & paste that into the android market search field minus the quotation marks. The free version doesn't have sound boost in it's title and the volume level won't go up high enough. In preferences in the app, you need to be able to select somewhere between 8-10. Too low, nothing and too high doesn't work either.
Very important, when you download the app for the first time, there is quick one time visual tutorial. Do everything exactly what it says to do, if not, won't work. If you can take screen shots of the directions, your better off. After that one time, you would have to un—install and than re—install to see it again. It only comes up right after the initial install.
The only variance is your volume number in the preferences . Test, if it's working, by listening to the preset ring tones in the system settings of the phone.
I was afraid, that I might of had to exchange the phone because the speaker volume was so bad. This app makes a significant difference.

You can get the full version for free from the developers site which has a link in the Market page of the lite version.
I keep mine set on 10 and it gives me the perfect volume.
It's the way the phone should have come.....
I am surprised samsung or google have not rectified this with the last 2 ota updates.

10 makes a difference but isn't there a chance of blowing the speaker by doing this or are we safe?

By any chance do you remember the steps? I just bought the app but accidently pressed the back button on the tutorial part. Is there anyway to go back to it?

yeah the voice is still like that in 4.0.2 (usa/lte); almost feel guilty about using navigation, sounds like the poor woman is getting tortured; I run it through my car speakers so it's loud of enough
thanks guys it helps alot

FYI there is an updated version at developers site 1.8.0.6 that adds ability to view the tutorial on demand.
I bought V+ and it helped with some of the settings, but not all. I rooted the phone as well. I might be returning it. It is a big disappointment.
Has anyone tried this with a bluetooth headset? I tried and am not getting any results. Tried "Headset" and tried "Bluetooth" settings, separately and together.

Do you do that natively with a bluetooth head unit. I have a car with bluetooth head unit and when I make a call and I'm using Nav at the same time it plays the Nav through the speakers....otherwise it doesn't.
Wondering if I can do likewise so any information would be greatly received.
Thanks
This is ridiculous... I've had this problem for over a year on multiple phones. I'm surprised I'm still using it. I just don't even listen to my vm anymore.
Anyone know what is causing the low volume bug? Any known fixes? I get low volume on both the ear-piece and on speakerphone. I've tried turning up all my volume levels and it is still awful. Any ideas?

Nobody?? Is anyone else having this problem?
Seems to be a Google app issue...I had this same problem on roms and stock for ICS but didn't see it on GB. What are you running on your phone,setup-wise?

Still running an EL29 rom.
Yeah I'm pretty sure its the app, has nothing to do with the phone or setup.

I have the same issue with the Sprint Visual Voicemail app. Most voicemails are recorded so low that you cannot hear them (with the app). I've gotten into the habit of just calling voicemail to listen to the message instead.
This JUST started happening to me as well.
I've been running Gvoice on my androids since my very first HTC G1, and never experienced this issue until this week.
The app was working fine, voicemail playback was loud as the rest of the phone, speaker or headset.
Then later on in the day I play another one back, and it sounds like olden times, when in the silence during a telephone call you could occasionally hear AM Radio being picked up by the phone wires, very faintly.
I de-registered my phone with g-voice, cleared app data and uninstalled gvoice app, rebooted. Re-installed gvoice app, re-registered phone with gvoice, re-forwarded calls, and set the app back up, no luck.
This is horrible. I actually listened to voicemails on my phone before. I don't want to go back to using ATT's crappy default voicemail system.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? If it's an app setting, how did it "all of a sudden" fail?

Try "reducing" the sound below the mid-level
I am on AOKP milestone 6 and noticed the same low volume in Skype, Google Voice (voicemail), and Sprint Voicemail. After some tinkering I noticed that reducing the volume to a little below mid level actually brings back the sound. I am not sure if this is something specific to my phone, but you might want to try the same if you are experiencing this issue.

thanks for this! this worked for me, but I was wondering if anyone else was able to figure out why this was happening. Adjusting volume is easy enough, just a little annoying.
Google just needs to update the app. Happens to me too on aokp and aosp jb.

I was experiencing the widely reported call distortion and people being unable to hear me when making calls. I think I found the fix. When you place a call, pull up the menu and turn off the noise filter. Did this and haven't had a problem since with multiple ROMs.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
This post title is confusing it makes it look like you have the fix although i have never had any call distortion is it during WiFi calls? what rom are you using....
I too was having that problem and was making all calls via speaker as the issue did not present while using the speaker. I can confirm that disabling noise reduction did the trick.
Phone (like you are making a call)
Menu Button
Go to call setting
Go to additional settings
Disable Noise Reduction
It is also being reported that capping your overclock at 1.5 eliminates the problem as well. The rom/kernel gods are working on the issue.
I've used a few ROMs ranging from Frosty to Sonic and I am now on CM10. Turning the noise reduction has worked with the distortion issue on all the ROMs I've used. My WiFi calling on CM10 works fine as well.

Woah, you should go collect your $350 then.
Flashed Wicked 2.1 a couple days ago and have not had to disable noise reduction.
My device has no in-call sound and sends no microphone sound. I hear no sound from the other line, and others report that they cannot hear anything from my end. I am running the latest Paranoid Android. What are some steps I could take to troubleshoot this issue?

Flash a TW ROM, to see it's not ROM related
I've had issues like that when I flashed certain radios, so if you've recently changed yours, that might be it. Other than that, I don't know, sorry.
Russian smashed across the interwebz from my T-Mobile Galaxy S2. Please hit thanks if I helped.
If you just reboot/turn on your phone, wait for it to finish settling (wait for 3-5 minutes) before using your phone. I just found out that I had no call sound because I was rushing on using it as soon as I turned it on.

Hey guys I'm currently running liquid smooth rc7 and the uvli radio and the people I am talking to on the phone are saying that the call quality isn't sounding very good. Can someone help me out?

Click the phone icon then menu setting and noise suppress try that I have the same problem and have not tried other radios yet but it may help. Idk if it has mine don't make many calls I'll know next time I call someone when I have to yell at them for them to hear me Lol. But try that
I had the same issue on this ROM too. In fact, all JB ROMs have this problem. I went back to ICS.
