I've been looking around a lot and I'm seriously to the point where I'm totally confused, I have my friend's HTC ONE X (international version) where we followed Hsasoon2000's tool kit (which also uses htcdev website) to unlock the boot loader and it apparently did and everything was good but when we tried to install the CM10 rom for jellybean using his toolkit the phone got into this "boot loop" and we can't figure how to fix it.. we can get to the bootloader.. where if we select recovery it takes us to this "team win recovery project" thing and gives us several options but .. we are pretty new to this and we don't want to screw this even more. We also tried to clear the cache and it didn't work. Through the team win recovery project I can mount USB storage and get to the phone's files, if this helps somehow.. can any of you guys help please?? WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT

The problem is the HOX doesn't accept the boot.img from the zip file you downloaded..... which means you need to find the CM10 rom thread and download the boot.img for that rom, flash that first through the bootloader, then flash the rom. You'll be good to go then.
Hope that helps.

There are lots of such information in the net or xda. But in short:
0. Put the CM10 zip in your sd card.
1. You probably need the recovery (have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819)
2. As said you need to flash the boot.img manually. The easiest is to download Android Revolution HD boot.img zip. (go Android Development section to look for the thread). Extract the boot.img from CM10 and put it in the ARHD boot.img zip (inside fastboot sub directory IIRC, replace that boot.img-- **must**). Follow his instruction. If you want to learn more, read his script; very straight-forward.
3. Boot into recovery and choose to install CM10 zip you put in your SD.

I did not. I think this phone is a clone. Do you know how to find out?
Try to enter the bootloader menu, hold the volume down & the power button together and wait until the phone restarts and enters the bootloader menu

Hi, i've unlocked bootloader, flashed recovery, rooted my phone now i need to get a good ROM. Can someone please tell me which is the easiest ROM to install without having to go to bootloader unlock, relock it etc...that will be a real pain in the as*.
I don't care which ROM as long as it has a better battery life than original version and solves WI-FI issues..
Thanks
First; try a better thread-name.
Second; I don't know what you mean, if you talk about unlock the bootloader again ..
If you already have done that, why would you need to do that again o0
Try IceColdJelly, it has Android 4.1(.1?), is very smooth and has a very good battery life.

In cmd (on your computer)
Flash the boot.img which you should extract out the Rom.zip you downloaded
Then flash it in fastboot.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then fastboot clear cache
Then reboot the phone :-

You need to flash the boot.img through fastboot. Put the boot.img into your fastboot folder and open a cmd window there. Then boot your phone into fastboot mode and run the commands "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and "fastboot erase cache"

it tells you EVERYTHING you need to know, read through it and other guides.
you are the reason ROM flashing shouldnt be available to everyone, you should have to pass a test first to ensure you know what you are doing and not outsmarted by a tree.

Be nice, this is supposed to be a friendly community. Some people know what they're doing, some have a lot left to learn - rememeber, you were a noob once.
However, on the other hand I have to agree, there are MANY forums and threads which explain the process of flashing a rom, recovery and rooting. There is no excuse not to use your eyes and the search features. Each Rom thread also has installation/flashing guides although very basic you should read anyway to avoid a brick or any other accidents.

Bro check wether you have used supported font pack.
There might be error because of wrong font pack.
Now have you taken your previous ROMs backup before installing new ROM?
If yes then revert back by using that backup.
And if not then reflash your current ROM.

Buddy i think the application you have installed has made some changes to kernel which mighe be irriversible.
So you can now flash a custom recovery and flash a new custom ROM.
Use this http://androidlegend.com/how-to-install-custom-clockworkmod-recovery-on-htc-one-v/ guide to flash a custom recovery.
And then try this guide to install a new ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34236649#post34236649
you can find custom ROM list which are supported on htc one v here.
http://alchemistar.blogspot.in/2012/10/htc-one-v-rom-list.html
Just go through each and every guide step by step. And read it properly and then try it.
And you will now have a problem to connect your phone to pc to copy ROM.zip for that u can remove your sdcard and use a card reader to connect it to your desktop.
And just be calm. You can make your HOV alive. :good:

Also are you having htc sync manager?? If yes then uninstall HTC sync manager only sync manager do not uninstall htc driver installer.
And if you are not having that htc driver installer then download it and install it to your system.
Another thing please post steps in detail that you are following to install custom recovery. Only steps of custom recovery.
Right now you should concentrate on flashing a custom recovery to your device.

Hello,
I unlocked Bootloader via HTCDev site. I then flashed the Recovery which was attached to the guide which was for HTC oneX.
This is the wrong recovery sticks at HTC logo screen. I can't find a way to flash the correct Recovery..... keep getting "cannot load 'recovery..." error message. Is there a way to erase the Recovery & start again?.

Thanks for very quick reply.
I originally flashed recovery-clockwork-touch-5-1.8.4.0-endeavoru
then tried several others unsuccessfully.
then flashed recovery.img (5 Mar 2013 from Ace Tools folder), this flashed ok but Recovery still sticks on HTC logo screen.
Method used : Put phone in Fastboot by using Vol- & power keys then using Terminal on Mac with fast boot-mac routine.
Unsuccessful flashes are
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-ace
recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-ace-modaco-r2
recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.0-ace

Rooting means you can install apps that require root access (like titanium backup or setcpu). Unlocked bootloader means you can load any rom, kernel, etc that you like. Unlocked bootloader requires root to be useful (for custom rom flashing)

Reverting to stock would mean your phone would be the way it was when it came out the box (despite cosmetic defects of course lol ) but in order to do this use a RUU for your region/carrier which could be found here
Follow this for rooting

Firstly, are you rooted? To install a ROM, you need to at least root and get a custom recovery like TWRP.
I used this toolkit to root. It also has an adb feature that boots your phone into fastboot or recovery.
If you don't trust the toolkit and have adb installed, you could try this.
Connect your phone and open a CMD window.
Type
adb devices
Make sure the phone is a connected device,
Then type
adb reboot fastboot
This should get you into fastboot and from there you can reboot to recovery if you need using volume and power buttons.
or just use adb reboot recovery to get to recovery straight away.
There are loads of roms available including: ARHD, ViperOne, Insertcoin etc.
Try looking for reviews on youtube or just read about them in these forums and pick one. Your can always wipe your device and flash another if you don't like one.
EDIT: As niorun said below, disable Fast Boot option under Power in Settings or it won't work.

Also be sure to check if your 'Fast boot' option is switched off! You can't boot into Fastboot if its on.
Go to Settings>Power>Fast Boot.
I cannot enter fastboot through adb commands and even when i switch on the phone i cannot get past welcome screen since touchscreen not working......help?

Touchscreen issue seems like a hardware problem and I'm not sure what you could really do about that other than send it in for a repair. If you can't get past the welcome screen, you can't disable the fastboot option so I'm not sure how to get around that.
Have you tried to adb into recovery?

Please lets start by telling us what you've done already.
Unlocked bootloader, flashed custom recovery etc... etc...?
I somehow reached the power option and turned fastboot off....then i successfully entered into bootloader. Now when i did "fastboot getvar all" i get this model: product: m8_ul
what to do next and how and which rom to install? I have m8 toolkit and know how to use it.

I've never seen that, but before you continue... You want to flash a custom ROM, right?
Before you can do that you need a Custom Recovery and a ROM suited for your needs. Do you already have them?
If you have, i suggest to follow the instructies inside the threads
If you haven't, i suggest to read and follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
EDIT: We can't tell you which ROM to use, that is your own decision!

That is correct, however I have no experience with going back to stock!
If you have made a nandroid backup before you flashed custom recovery that would be the easiest way.
Read the thread i posted earlier, going back to stock is explained there.

I'd say the odexed one if you are going for the stock anyway, otherwise i'd suggest ARHD.

Hello everyone! Some time ago I rooted my phone + used custom Leedroid ROM. Unfortunately I forgot how did I do that and right now I am expiriencing some problems with my phone. I would love to update my phone. I am considering to change the ROM too. Right now my phone uses android 7.0 so i would like to update that. I have the TWRP recovery installed but probably outdated version.
Could anyone help me please to get through this without my phone getting messed up? I am little bit lost in these kernel, ROM and recovery words.

If you want to update your rom (to probably any OREO based rom) you need to update your firmware first otherwise you can't even run them at all.
So you need to go back to stock first and update, flash TWRP and flash the desired rom. Please boot to download mode and post here what's written there, then there is a big chance i can guide you to a updated firmware.
Make backups of stuff you want to keep in the cloud or on your laptop because the device will be wiped completely in the process.

2: copy it to your SDCARD
3: boot to download mode
4: it will prompt automatically to flash the file, confirm to do so
5: reboot the phone when done
6: go to settings and check for updates
7: install all the available updates
8: flash the latest twrp (download from xda, it's very easy to find it)
9: flash your desired oreo rom
Cheers

You should get on the ROM you want first.
Also, Kernel comes with the ROM
If you want a custom kernel, same as ROM, read the thread and details.
I also suggest reading as much as possible. Google your questions.. You'd be surprised how many ppl ask these same questions. :good:

Well it's all the same but you now need the RUU with the number that's at OS line in download mode. So boot to download mode, write down the OS number and search for the matching RUU.zip which will probably be 3.16.401

Hello! Its me again. I hope I´ll get your attention this way.
Ive just bought an HTC 10 phone from Ebay because the old one had terrible battery and i will probably use it as a second phone. Everything worked fine until i tried to update the phone. The phone is now only restarting itself even after i performed factory reset/data wipe in the recovery mode.
In the download mode the phone says
*** LOCKED ***

Can anyone help me please? I would love to fix it by myself cause sending the phone back would be pain in the butt. Thanks alot for your help.

Find the 2.41.617 ruu.zip, rename it to 2PS6IMG.zip and copy it to the root of your SDCARD. Enter download mode and confirm to flash it. That's all.....
Ah look......there it is

But to be fair, you already knew what to do. All the instructions are in this thread you just needed to change some OS numbers right ? It's no rocket science.....
