[Q] hi there - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

hello everybody.
i am experiencing this weird situation in which i neither can connect to app store nor can add a google account on my device. i can open gmail in browser though. i have samsung google nexus .. please help me out.

And what have you done to your phone? Likely it's not stock? If it is, you need to try a factory reset.
What happens when you try to add an account?

Seems to me you've flashed a custom ROM but didn't flash a gapps package, or something went screwy when flashing gapps. Make sure you have the correct version of gapps which is compatible with your ROM, and try re-flashing Gapps.zip

@ martonikajr ... well i don't remember what went wrong ... gmail and google play were working fine since last saturday ... whenever i try to add an account it get stuck in that screen which says "this take few mintues" [the verification process screen]
@-Psycho- how can i flash a gapps package??? there is another thing that might help you understanding the problem and eventually helping me ... everytime there is a system update [to jelly bean] on restarting there is some "clockmod recovery" error [failed to extract] error ... that's why after almost 3 to 4 days my system is ready to update again ..

Please provide a bit more information, such as what have you done with your phone...
What ROM are you running? Stock?
If you have clockworkmod recovery installed (and it seems you do) instead of stock recovery, you can't get an OTA update by pressing 'system update'. You need to be completly on stock for it to work. Did the problems start after trying to update?

let me add details of my device:
Model number: Galaxy Nexus
Android Version: 4.1
baseband version: I9250XXLF1
Kernel Version: 3.0.31 -ge8de0e2 [email protected]) #1 SMP PREEMPT tue jan 19 11:26:52 PDT 2012
Build number: JRN84D (this is probably ROM)

Is YouTube still blocked in Pakistan?
I've heard that people have trouble contacting other Google services because of this.
The government blocked the IP instead of the service which will affect other Google services which share the IP address.

Sounds like that may be the issue, and if you take care of this, it should probably fix your problem. Try out this link and follow the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903105
If that doesn't work, let me know and we'll try something else out to fix the problem.

Clockworkmod (or for short CWM) recovery is a custom recover, and not the stock recovery that comes with the phone. In order to get into recovery mode, when the phone is off, press and hold down the buttons volume up+volume down+power button, and you will now be in what is called the bootloader, which will have information on your device, whether it's unlocked and such. The touchscreen doesn't work in this mode, use the volume buttons to move between options and the power button to select. If you scroll to recovery mode and select it, your phone will go into recovery mode - if your phone then shows you a upside down android with his stomach open and a red exclamation mark, don't worry - it just means that you have the normal, stock recovery. Take out the battery to turn off the device.
If your phone shows you a list of options (again, you can't use the touchscreen) such as reboot now, install zip from sdcard, etc., and you see it says 'Clockworkmod Recovery' at the top of the screen, you have a custom recovery, meaning you can flash custom Roms, make backups, and many more.
I highly recommend you head over to efrant's 101 guide & faq, he makes everything abundantly clear over there -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812959
And, in general - use the search option at the top right corner of every page in the forum. Its really much faster, and you would've easily found out what clockworkmod recovery is doing that.

I'm new, could someone recommend me a ROM?

I'm completely new to flashing and modifying my phone in any way. But the improvements I see people talking about from flashing to new ROMs are compelling me to try it out.
I was sceptical about flashing my nexus a couple months ago when some ROMs had been released but from what I'm reading now people are pretty confident with how stable they are.
I'm looking for any of the following:
Smoother/More responsive OS
Improved Battery Life
4.0.3 fixes
I'm okay with slight modifications such as the removal of the Google search bar on home screen
Thanks, and if possible could someone link me to anything that would help/guide me through flashing my nexus.
AOKP
Hey,
I was sceptoical too but rooting was the best thing I could have done.
Check out AOKP BUild 15 on these forums for a really good rom and very customised. It is stable and has been working for me perfectly. Way better than stock!
Good luck.

How does it compare to CM and could you tell me about some new features that build would give me?
Also, do I still receive updates from google if I used modified ROMs? If I flash to AOKP Build 15 will I be able to update to 4.0.4 later and continue to 4.0.5 etc
edit: Is this what you are talking about? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432408
edit 2: seems that 'AOKP' isn't mutually exclusive with 'CM', kinda shows how much I know lol
edit 3: the thread says 'Compatibility:' with i9020 and i9023 which google tells me are Nexus S phones, will it still work with my Galaxy Nexus?

This is the one I am using and it's brilliant.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402341
There are cool features like putting data off when you switch the screen off, saves battery. Also you can add notification toggles which are very handy.
In terms of getting future updates from Google, the devs on here always have the latest source code and modify it so when 4.0.5. is out you will have a rom on here that you can flash.
Seriously root it dude and have fun. It just gives the phone something extra and generally makes things faster.
How exactly do I put that ROM on my phone lol
I have no idea what '4. Wipe Dalvik cache.' would require me doing.

Ok you need to look at the rooting and modding guides on here. Wiping the davlik cache is something you do when you have the phone in recovery mode. It is very easy to do and the instructions are very well written. Out the guides here:

Good luck and if all goes well I bet you won't regret it.

No probs, no automatic updates but generally you will have the latest Android OS because the devs on here do such a great job at releasing them.
Have fun!
So I'm at this part of the guide
'b. Enter CWM Recovery by first entering the Fastboot mode Screen (Disconnect the usb cable (if you have one plugged in), then shut down your phone. Keep holding the 'Volume Up' and 'Volume Down' buttons and press the 'Power' button to boot the phone into FastBoot Mode), then select 'Recovery mode' by pressing the 'Volume Down' button and then press the 'Power' button to enter CMW Recovery.'
But after I select Recovery Mode, I get an android on the floor with a red triangle sign with a ! in it over the android.
What's this mean?
Also what should I use 'MSKIPS' GALAXY NEXUS TOOLKIT' for?
One of the steps under that part of the guide is 'After you have finished you can either boot straight into CWM Recovery to flash a Custom Rom (if you have already downloaded one and copied it to the root of your Internal Memory on your phone)', should I proceed with that? I have the KANGY2Pack on the root of my internal storage.

Ok, like I said on the PM, just start over. You are very close to having it rooted.
And get this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19794530
Will give you an extra boost (especially the appdrawer).
Don't install any 4.0.1/4.0.2 based roms like ARHD. 4.0.3 based roms like Bigxie's rom or openkang are much faster!

Every time I try to install the Kangy2 zip file from within CWM Recovery I get 'installation aborted', what would cause this?

How do I install a kernel? I think I know how to flash a rom (just install the zip from root storage via CWM Recovery after you've rooted/unlocked bootloader).
What different changes does a different kernel give vs different ROM?

Woo hoo! Glad you got sorted after all the private messages. Flashing the kernel ios the same as flashing a rom, the same method I mean.
Kernels vary so I would recommend Apex build five kernel, that's not to say any of the other ones are bad but just the one I am using and it works well.
Glad you got all sorted anyway dude.

now what?

Ok after hours and hours, I finally got my KF rooted and online. I have installed superuser with KFU....I also installed the gapps from KFU, that part didnt work. I downloaded from the play store gmail. I am trying to get it to sync.....I think I need the google services framwork or something like that. I want it to be able to sync to my gmail and my phone. I know it is possible...but there is so many different websites and whatnot, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction
thanks
Heather
You'll need to install the gapps zip. Can you provide a bit more information regarding that part not working? Maybe a screenshot of KFU at it?
By the way, I strongly advise you to install FFF and TWRP.

I dont know how to do a screen shot. I've got it up and running. I have it rooted and the market app installed. that all works. The wierd thing is that when I first rooted this months ago...as soon as the KF booted up, all of my apps from my phone were there. AWESOME! But now, I have done the same thing and nothing. All of my amazon apps are there, but thats it. my calendar was there with all the dates, so I guess that means it was able to sync. but the gmail does not sync automatically. I have googleservicesframework.apk on there, installed and changed permissions. do I need the calendarsync.apk?
I used KFU this morning to root and I think it automatically installed twrp, when I boot up the first KF logo is blue, at the bottom there is a boot up menu, then it boots into the orange/yellow KF logo and its good from there. Does that mean I do have twrp installed?
Honestly, I went out and bought an asus tablet because I coulnd't get my KF to do what I wanted it to.. I jsut want to be able to use it as a basic tablet, to sync my email and celandar and run the play store, thats it
Id rather keep the KF because of the size and cost But I'm just frustrated...thanks for letting me vent

Alright, you do have FFF installed (it's the blue KF logo screen). When you start up the KF, you'll notice on the bottom it's asking you to press the power button for a boot menu. Do press the power button a few times until it shows -Recovery-, and see if it boots into TWRP then - from there, choose "Install" and then pick the gapps zip (download http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip and put it in your KF if you haven't yet. You can delete that zip after it's been installed). You may also want to wipe cache and dalvik-cache.

The reason that stuff was gone is probably due to an amazon OTA (over the air) update. To prevent stuff like that in the future, if you have the heart, you may want to look into flashing a custom ROM.

Press the "print screen" (Prt Scr) key on your keyboard (usually, it's next to F12) - then fire up Paint and just paste (control v or choose the select tool and right click on the image, then paste). It's a good idea to save it as PNG for better quality, or JPG for an usually smaller size, then you can either attach it here or upload to an image host, such as imgur.com, and link to it here.

As a side note, do not allow Play Store to update Kindle applications - they'll malfunction until you uninstall those updates.

How many times to I hit the power button to get into recovery? I see when I a supposed to press it to get into the boot menu but It just keeps going, the the logo turns yellow orange and boots normally
I would love to install a custom rom. What would you reccomend? Im running an ICS one on my phone. .. Im a little less worried about bricking this, as opposed to my htc phone that I need for work (and thats running a custom rom) Its just that there are so many ways to do things and so many differrent devices that are different in every way possible when it comes to installing custom things
I guess I should be more patient. I figured out the recovery and I have installed the gapps.

A few times, it's hard to say, as it kinda sucks at acknowledging your presses. You'll notice the letters change to a few options, with the middle one saying --Recovery-- or something like that, then just let it sit there and it'll load into TWRP in a few seconds -if- TWRP is installed. You can also just press the power button multiple times until it shows that boot menu.

Well, first is having your issues fixed. As for which to pick, is a delicate matter. You can pick between a stock based custom ROM, if you do like the stock rom look... and there are also CM7 (Android 2.3, gingerbread) and CM9 (Android 4.0, ICS). I'm currently using the sgt7 ICS ROM, but your mileage may vary - each ROM is usually fairly different, and what I like may not be what you like. Either way, you can freely "hop" around trying out different ROMs until you decide to stick with one that works best for you.

Random Reboots / Can't flash / use recovery / change data

Hi,
it seems I managed to break my GNex is a very unusual way - mentioned in an earlier thread but never got picked up. I'm more fortunate here.
So, what's happening?
My GNex (GSM) us running:
4.3 Stock
Baseband: I9250XXLJ1
Kernel: 3.0.72-gfb3c9ac
Build JWR66Y
The phone is unlocked but currently not rooted.
The phone randomly reboots shortly after startup. Often there are error messages informing about different Google services ending.
I tried:
- factory reset
- flashing sock image using Odin
- (re)lock & unlock
- flashing CM 10.1.3
- using all format and clear options with CWM
- even remote wipe with Google Devices Manager
Whatever I do, once the phone starts up it loads the exact same data it was on before and seems to be stuck on one certain point.
- Apps that it updated, update again
- files I delete, are back
- Deleted Wifi Password is back
- Changed Google Account information is missing
I read about the emmc bug but I can't check using the app since it will reboot before it loads the app.
Does anybody have an idea what I could try to get the phone working again? How I can flash something that actually sticks? I'd appreciate any ideas & help

Hey...i have the same problem with my phone. Galaxy Nexus..
Did you manage to get the EMMC changed?..if yes then where and how much did it cost?
Hi,
I didn't. I talked to Samsung and they gave me details on how to send the phone in, but since the bootloader is unlocked, there is no more warranty on it, so I would have to pay. Don't know how much it would be though. Let me know how much you pay should you go for it..

Moto z problems

Installed TWRP 3.1.1.0
Viper addison 7.1.2
Here are my problem:
1. Flashed with supersu v2.79 and also v2.82, neither works. Phone still not rooted. When i tried toa access supersu app, it says "there is no su binary installed and supersu can't install it..."
2. Camera does open but it doesn't function, it stays dark. (I have custom gapps 7.1.x)
3. Proximity sensor does not seem to be working in other cases, but the phone goes dark as soon as i press dial or as soon as i pick a call and remains so untill the other party cuts the call. Otherwise i need to shut down the phone if i have to end the call from my phone.
4. When i shut down the phone, in order to reboot manually from recovery-reboot-bootloader. Otherwise it remains in twrp recovery.
Can anyone help please?
Have you tried flashing back to stock and seeing if that fixed these issues?

4. When i shut down the phone, in order to reboot manually from recovery-reboot-bootloader. Otherwise it remains in twrp recovery.
Can anyone help please?

This is not really a problem with the phone per se but the rom you chose to flash. The reboot issue can be checked by setting a command at bootloader using "fastboot oem fb_mode_clear".

Have you tried flashing back to stock and seeing if that fixed these issues?

Thanks. But i don't have the stock rom. I didn't intend to use a custom rom. I tried to root it to recover some deleted photos and the moron that i am, i didn't back up the stock firmwares and while tweaking around in the recovery i somehow deleted the stock rom. This is my 1st time...

Is there an option for the bootloader in developer settings in your rom similar to the screenshot I attached? Make sure it's enabled.

Thanks for your concern. Developer option is 'on' and Multiprocess webView renderers seperately - 'on'. But i get the same problem. (and how do you attach screenshots ? I don't see any option for attaching files) In anycase, like you said, i think the problem has more to do with the rom. Can you please suggest me another rom or if possible link from where i can download stock rom for my phone.

If your on xda with your browser, it's the paperclip icon to attach files. If you are using a 3rd party app that wraps xda into it then I can't help you there. As for going back to stock, Motorola made things a little critical when they released Nougat. Depending on how far you were on keeping the device up to date through stock, flashing the available stock images (which aren't signed) could brick the device if you aren't careful. There use to be an account on androidfilehost that uploaded current stock packages but it seems they're all gone now. If you remember the build number of the device before you rooted, that will help in picking the right stock files. I've taken a break in keeping my device rooted so I haven't kept track of the resources used to help go back to stock but they're in the MZP guide threads.
EDIT: a word of caution when reverting to stock:
-Don't use flash tools that don't let you see/edit the fastboot commands
-Do not use commands that touch modem/radio or gpt partitions
Found an upload of the latest build release keep it around when you figure out what you need to flash. It's best to clear system, data, and cache before flashing. Also have a rom (and twrp) at hand to adb sideload in case stock doesn't boot.

TWRP (Ianmacd) Images, New Space.

This is NOT my work (Ianmacd) and guide is written by Mr Pickles all credits to him for his install method.
Also this is just a copy and paste but the guide is well written and TWRP should cause less issues.
I'm sure Gieti94 is just perhaps busy with other commitments, credit also to him for his fantastic efforts.
Just a new space for the currently working TWRP so all don't get in a pickle.

Download Maintained By Pickles (best all in one convenient place) will have everything necessary for twrp functionality. Credit to pickles.....:good:

Excellent installation Guide below
Install Guide
---------------------------
- NOT A SINGLE STEP IS UNNESSECARY
- DO THEM _ALL_ EXACTLY!
- ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE GONE - BACKUP!
---------------------------------------
DO NOT INSTALL MODPACK FROM SOLDIER - IT BREAKS TWRP!
---------------------------------------
If you have any problems - contact @PiCkLeS or on Telegram by PiCkLeS or @rp4k
---------------------------------------
All development is by @ianmacd (Ian Macdonald).
---------------------------------------
0 - No matter what you have today, no root or Magisk-only solution or TWRP with Magisk-solution, do ALL the steps..
1 - Make sure you copy the "Magisk_Manager_Ian_install.apk" file and "Multidisabler-g97x_by_Ian.zip" file to your sd-card before you start!
2 - Download latest firmware via Samfirm or Frija or in any way you can, and unpack.
3 - Boot your phone to Download mode (Power+Bixby+VolDown) and remember to have the USB connected to your computer, it won't boot to DL-mode otherwise
4 - Keep autoboot etc in Odin settings, put each file in its place (AP, BL, CSC etc) and _dont_ use HOME_CSC, use CSC-only-file.
5 - After Odin is done, your phone will reboot automatically - let it! It can feel like forever, but let it do its restarts and stuff until you are in system-setup
6 - Do the setup as per usual, CONNECT TO WIFI but you can safely just say Skip on sign in and other stuff
7 - When setup says its all finished and you get to the standard launcher - go into Settings and enable Developer settings
8 - This step IS necessary.. If you don't do this step, you might get in pre-normal rrm state and you will have wait 7 days to try again: Enter Developer settings and look for the "OEM Unlock" switch - if you are rooting for the first time, Enable it. If you already have root since before or unlocked your bootloiader before, just confirm that its Enabled and graded out.
9 - If you already have an unlocked bootloader, skip to step 12. If not, continue with step 10.
10 - IF you never have unlocked your bootloader before, Power off the phone and boot into download mode again. You will see the long press volUp option for unlock bl, do that.
11 - IF you never have unlocked OEM before, boot the phone again, do the setup without signing in etc but connect to wifi, enable dev settings, go into dev settings and check that OEM now is enabled and grayed out.
12 - Reboot the phone in recovery mode (Power+Bixby+VolUp and keep holding until you are in stock recovery. Choose and do a factory reset.
13 - Reboot to bootloader with option in Recovery.
14 - Flash the tar you got (S10x-TWRP+Magisk_fixed_by_Ian.tar I Odin in the AP-slot. DISABLE auto reboot in Odin first!
15 - When the tar has flashed - Do as instructed on the phone, hold Power+VolDown for a few seconds and AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK -> quickly press power+bixby+volUp for a _long_ time, and I mean it can feel as if its a full minute! After a while you will see TWRP starting with its start screen, you can now let go and enter TWRP.
16 - FORMAT data, then WIPE data AND Cache. DO NOT LET IT REBOOT
17 - Flash "Multidisabler-g97x_by_Ian.zip" from SD card
18 - Go back to start screen of TWRP, Choose Reboot, Choose Recovery - YOU MUST ALWAYS CHOOSE REBOOT TO RECOVERY and _NOT_ system!
19 - Let the phone reboot into system, it will do some reboots it self, and again it will feel like it takes FOREVER - Just let it do its thing and DO NOT PRESS ANY KEYS!
20 - When your phone is finally done booting, just do the normal setup/signing for real this time.
21 - When you are done and in system/launcher, install "Magisk_Manager_Ian_install.apk" from SD card and verify that you now have Magisk Manager installed.
22 - Start Magisk Manager and say YES to what it says, it will do some stuff and then say "Rebooting in 5 seconds" - LET IT BOOT AND DO NOT TOUCH ANY KEYS this time either..
23 - Now when booted to system, start Magisk Manager and see that you have all green and its installed.
24 - Now you have root.
** Every time you reboot manually, be prepared to hold Power+Bixby+VolUP until you see the Samsung S10x-logo, then release and let it reboot, you will have root.
** Every time you power off the phone, when you power ON again, hold Power+Bixby+VolUP until you see the Samsung S10x-logo, then release and it will boot with root.
** Every time you want to enter TWRP-recovery, do as above but KEEP HOLDING THE KEYS UNTIL TWRP-start screen shows then release. Remember to choose reboot to recovery afterwards and you will boot with root.
** IF you screw up and forget or miss the key combo, just let it boot to system, immediately when system is up - reboot again and do the key combo and all is fine again.
This is me just trying to get an emergency first aid space, nothing more, I'm NOT trying to take any credits or dismiss Gieti94.
Thanks All

Yea I can keep the OP updated, this is just an emergency first aid thread, thanks to Pickles for his well written guide.
I'm really not wanting to offend anyone, just for all to make life a bit easier....
very nice to have a reliable twrp solution, pitty that we don't have too many things to flash in recovery
Please remove the alternate download link, I have updated the multidisabler zip with a important update, v1.1 and the one download link for all is just for things like that, the other download link still have the old zip.
Very important that everyone uses Ian Macdonald's new v1.1 multidisabler script.
/P
I can update the mega link with the new disabler I reposted it to mega because I can't access Google @PiCkLeS
And yes I never said I wrote the guide I just added myself for helping people

I understand. But that doesn't seem to be a big problem for any one else and the bigger problem is that you risk having a link that is being used by the people only see it here and don't read anywhere else, or this message, and end up with old information or even worse, outdated files.
I can help you get the files on PM but please remove these links outside of my drive, which I maintain every day and keep up to date. It's not for vanity, it's for safety.
For now please edit your text and remove the link. All must use v1.1 of the multidisabler zip by Ian.

Maybe this thread was a bad idea, as stated I am around and willing to keep things up to date
I know the importance, and how things are at present.

Listen, just to be clear. I and I dont think Ian have a problem with you having this thread.
All I am worried about is the download link. Things can and are happening fast. If there are multiple sources for downloading files in this case, and today one was updated with important improvements, and there are many places to download from people can miss that and download old files that can cause big problems.
Keep the downloading to one good source and everything will be fine. The thread in it self can do much good by showing that there is an alternative, it works and right now almost 100 people in 24 hours have used it. Fantastic!
So I dont think it was a bad idea, I just dont want PM:s from people in a week or two asking why their device suddenly lost data, only to find out that they downloaded from a source that didnt have the latest files.
Thats all.

I fully appreciate and understand that, the reason I created as I have plenty of time to maintain, and will keep it up to date I have been around for quite some time, if you look at my posts (search) I have had almost every device you can think of, currently have the Vivo IQOO also, I have enough experience to understand the important and implications.
I don't want your PM's to be going crazy so I'll fully respect your decisions and will keep everything updated also. But it is better if everything is tody and not one thing here and there, OP has been updated with your direct link, is this cool?
Just thought by creating this thread that it might help, my sincere and good intentions are hopefully evident

Man... did you even read my comment???
I was asking if this would work for Snapdragon, not saying I got it to work. It doesn't mention if it's a method for both versions in the OP or not.

hi ,
do you have the OEM switched to on?
if not , you need it ..... if you can't get it because you are waiting the 7 days , you can make this trick
open settings and set the date 8 days before ... then reboot
so you can enable OEM in developer settings
