Hi all, if I root my 101 G9 turbo, does the modified kernal unlock the media codecs that you would normally purchase from Archos?

No it does not. The codecs are not physically on the tablet anyway. You would have to purchase them from Archos and then download them.

The codecs are on the tablet...
when you buy, you activate the codecs
So is there a way to unlock them other than purchasing from Archos?
It seems a bit daft that this device comes with locked codecs.

No, because unlocking them without buying would be warez/piratism. Forum rules forbids all kind of warez and piratism.

No, there is no way. Unlock code/data/whatever is kept on boot partition and we do not have safe tools to make any changes there.
Besides- it's illegal.
Thanks for the replies, I do not condone piracy, however I just wanted to know if it was a possibility, it seems a bit odd that a unit priced fairly high, requires further investment to unlock something that is already available via a simple unlock code .
So if I had the codec pack installed and then perform a root, would I have to pay for another unlock?, or would the codecs remain unlocked?

It's not that simple- what you pay for is the LICENCE for using the codec as it is proprietary piece of code (most likely owned by TI or PowerVR). I think it's similar to RaspberryPi codecs.

No, you only unlock them once. "Unlock data" is stored on mmcblk0p1 partition which is a)read only b)not touched by any file operation except for flashing an .aos file or kernel (both operations are done using Archos tools so it is safe)
Thanks for the quick response, at least I can feel safe in the knowledge that if I purchase the media codecs, I will not lose them after performing root.

And what if you flash a new firmware,
wil you lose the "unlock" and must you pay again to obtain a new license?

No, firmware updates don't touch it. Also there is no easy way to remove it.
No problem
the "unlock" is for one tablet, not for firmware
Thanks to the both of you. :good:
Sadly no. Every file, only for one tabletcrying:
And if you buy another but same tablet you can request for swap..

1. Yes once you unlock your bootloader.
2. No psp games don't work on any smart phone currently. But you can emulate anything n64/ps1 and lower.
3.If you make your own theme you can do anything you want. If you want to know what's currently available go look in the sub forum.

Oh I didn't know you were on a 800x my bad. You can still unlock the bootloader to access Fastboot but obviously it's locked to VZ. As far as ROM/themes there are a few to choose from after you unlock the bootloader. I think v3 of dooms kernel may work for you but you'll need to wait for a more educated 800x person to answer or just read in the dev section for yourself it's all over. Good luck

you can unlock the bootloader for the r800x.... but you have to have someone with the right hardware help you... and it costs money.
if you're up for it i would recommend Alejandrissimo. he did it for me last night... it was 24 dollars but it works like a dream. i flashed doom kernel v3 and i'm using stock 2.3.3 and it's running wonderfully. overclocked to 1.6 ghz with no problems whatsoever.
24 seems a little steep, I mean I can understand paying them, but idk how to price something that involves connecting your pc to a stranger.
Connect a virtual machine if you want. It works too ^^
Yea but I feel like yhats more work.
Ill probably ask someone on here.

He doesn't actually make money doing it. The $24 goes to buy "tokens" on a 3rd party website that gives the unlock code to him, then he remotely accesses your phone/computer and does it all for you. He also uses a special cable remotly to unlock your bootloader. But yea basically he donates his time to help people do it and only charges the $24 to cover his cost to get the code. It's really easy and he's cool as hell I really recommend it.
yeah i am going to do this once i can afford to pay the guy to unlock for me.. it should be worth it..
Ah. Didn't know there eas a 3rd party website. Thx for the info everybody I gona go make a paypal

What that mean? (Other than just charge it) I've removed some of the basic apps that not needed as listed on this page:

Also I bought a 3600 mah battery from ebay which is all in the phone and what not. Can't believe how much of an improvement it is over my old wildfire s

guy's i'm using a Bravo here in Pakistan, its on 2.2.1 i've rooted with recovery, the issue is that everytime i flash another rom it asks for the "input network pin" prompt and i got no signals and no network, no one can unlock the phone here, but yes on froyo i've got my network, thankfully i restored a backup that i made and i get my network back... any one can help me get my phone fully unlocked so i can flash other roms other than froyo?
I would move this topic from Bravo Android Development over to Bravo General because there is where all of the Q&A topics should go. Just my suggestion, tho.
yes this should be moved, but answering your question @jafferkhan, it happened to me before, it is because you bought an cheap unlock code, everytime you flash it, it will ask for the unlock code, buy the code from another server, I know one that worked for me before, or try direct unlock with sigma key, all this methods are paid services

hey juan, thanks for the prompt response, you guys have helped me understand a lot about this phone, yes you're right, i think i will need to get it unlocked, but the entire phone cost me less than 15 dollars here where i am, and i know that it's been softunlocked, to run on 2.2.1 which is why when i upgrade it, it won't unlock, if you can, how to soft unlock it on CM7.2? so i will keep it on that only and it stays unlocked to use it on that
I don't think you could soft unlock this because there is no soft unlock for the Bravo yet like there is for the Defy. Yes, I did suggest you try the Defy soft unlock as a last resort thru PM but it didn't work. Juan seems to know more about this than I do, even I had no idea there was a difference between normal unlock codes and "cheap" ones that only work once. If anything, just find a ROM you would be comfortable staying on and buy another one of those cheap one time use unlock codes Juan talked about in his previous post. I know in my country I have seen cheap unlock codes go for around 2 US Dollars but I don't know how that would translate to Pakistan currency.

If you are interested there is a used Motorola Bravo that is about 55 USA dollars on Amazon (and there's a new version for about 80 USA dollars). It is locked to Consumer Cellular, but it is running 2.2.2 Froyo which a lot of Motorola Bravo developers REALLY REALLY want. You see, most Motorola Bravo phones only run Android 2.2.1 but ONLY CONSUMER CELLULAR VERSIONS RUN ANDROID 2.2.2 SO FINDING ONE WITH 2.2.2 IS VERY RARE AND VERY SOUGHT AFTER. Here is a link to the Amazon product page:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
EDIT: I actually made a mistake. The one for 50 USA dollars is actually not used, it is new as well.
If you were to get this and it is running 2.2.2 Froyo as its Android version, me and the rest of the Motorola Bravo fans out there would ask you to first perform a system dump of all the Android 2.2.2 files before replacing the Android version with another ROM. To see what I am talking about with the whole Android 2.2.2 on Motorola Bravo thing (and to learn how to perform a system dump as well) take a look at this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200602
@jasonmerc 55usd is too high, you can buy an atrix by 60
It was the lowest price I have seen for this phone anywhere. He told me he bought his phone in Pakistan where he is, and he said he bought it off of some guy and not on an online service like Amazon. So when it comes to buying one where you are (Santo Domingo) an online service might be your only easy option to buying a phone.

jason answered your question before me ... thanks jase, but yeah i got it here from a dude who imports these phones and sells them cheap, i got it for very cheap since it was in a rough condition, almost for free but since i've been using it, it's a very capable small cute phone, here you can get it for as low as 20 in good condition, and yeah an atrix HD for like 70 dollars here
I just received a brand new Stick a couple days ago and successfully installed Kodi and a VPN. But, I am now interested in messing around with some custom ROMs and at the very least block further Amazon updates. I can't find any solid yes or no answers as to whether this is possible. Could someone point me in the right direction? I am fairly familiar with rooting Android phones and using recovery and custom roms. Fire is new to me.
Thanks!
Edit: I now realize that I probably should have just bought a Gen 1 Stick, but I didn't know that Amazon was actively fighting off modders. I have faith that the Android community will come up with a solution.. if they haven't already.

You can not
It seems that there isn't one person who works on finding a root for the fire tv. Is it that they wait for a vulnerability to be found in the Android OS itself before a root is available? I'm just wondering this because of the type of ways people have rooted them in the past. Anyone know?
Looks like my hope lies with zeroepoch and rbox.

Where can I find debloater tool for fire tv 2?
There is a prerooted 5.2.4.1 rom available.
Is there no way to install a xustom recovery and load that? Lile with many devices (im looking at you samsung) you have to install twrp and then boot straight to rexovery and flash a rom or your supersu.
Is that not possible with this? I am or else someone would have said it but I have to ask.
Edit. Excuse me.
How do you plan on doubling your money? Selling fully loaded boxes and sticks is illegal and Kodi is pretty much dead.
Illigal? You a lawyer? Is that legal advise? I think its perfectly legal. They literally have dozens of sellers on amazon, ebay, etc. (Not trying to come off smartass, I just dont want any trouble)
And even besides all that, everything I own that has a root folder has access to it. I have a touch of ocd maybe, but I just really want to be able to use a device I paid for to its fullest extent. Since they advertise the specs to their fullest when deciding on a sale price.

I'm just saying be very careful. I've had the FBI at my door and it's not fun. I believe Amazon and eBay are taking down "fully loaded" boxes. I thought your post mentioned selling them. I'm not trying to be an ass just be careful.

Yeah. I had forgotten my manners for a moment. The internet is huge, ya know sometimes I forget which spot I am. I am simply trying to enable all the features of this thing. I use it to replace cable, a few (less than $10 usually) monthly subscriptions to alternate channels can save a ton of money over conventional cable. This is all I was saying.
Is there no way to get into fastboot by using possibly a factory cable? I have one of those that I used for my kindle fires.

Does anyone know if it is possible to unlock the bootloader of M5 (SHT-W09) using this method (
).
I was about to sell my tab until I came across this video. Since SHT-W09 runs on Kirin 960 may be there's some hope. It will be good to know if anyone has any additional insights?

Yeah it is possible. It is showed on the official page of PotatoNV (https://github.com/mashed-potatoes/PotatoNV).
I know it is CMR but it is also compatible with SHT because it is using the same SoC.
Also you can use this method: https://ministryofsolutions.com/huawei-bootloader-unlock-paid-service-html
It is paid but you don't risk to breake something inside your tablet.
I used this method and it worked perfectly well. It costs 15$ but it is worth it.
Thank you for responding, I was able to get it unlocked using the service. I am glad I didn't have to open the tablet.
I will also give it a try.... I was hoping it's easier ...
Did it work for you as well?
So they will unlock my device via TeamViewer? Does it really need two hours of work?
