I know there are simialar threads about this but I have a couple of questions.
Can I Use moded/custom roms?
Can I play psp games that are .iso or another format
What kind of themes can I use on my phone?
I have a R800x CDMA xperia rooted with zergrush.

1. Yes once you unlock your bootloader.
2. No psp games don't work on any smart phone currently. But you can emulate anything n64/ps1 and lower.
3.If you make your own theme you can do anything you want. If you want to know what's currently available go look in the sub forum.

I thought I couldn't unlock my bootloader because I have a MEID on my phone not a IMEI.

Oh I didn't know you were on a 800x my bad. You can still unlock the bootloader to access Fastboot but obviously it's locked to VZ. As far as ROM/themes there are a few to choose from after you unlock the bootloader. I think v3 of dooms kernel may work for you but you'll need to wait for a more educated 800x person to answer or just read in the dev section for yourself it's all over. Good luck

you can unlock the bootloader for the r800x.... but you have to have someone with the right hardware help you... and it costs money.
if you're up for it i would recommend Alejandrissimo. he did it for me last night... it was 24 dollars but it works like a dream. i flashed doom kernel v3 and i'm using stock 2.3.3 and it's running wonderfully. overclocked to 1.6 ghz with no problems whatsoever.
24 seems a little steep, I mean I can understand paying them, but idk how to price something that involves connecting your pc to a stranger.
Connect a virtual machine if you want. It works too ^^
Yea but I feel like yhats more work.
Ill probably ask someone on here.

He doesn't actually make money doing it. The $24 goes to buy "tokens" on a 3rd party website that gives the unlock code to him, then he remotely accesses your phone/computer and does it all for you. He also uses a special cable remotly to unlock your bootloader. But yea basically he donates his time to help people do it and only charges the $24 to cover his cost to get the code. It's really easy and he's cool as hell I really recommend it.
yeah i am going to do this once i can afford to pay the guy to unlock for me.. it should be worth it..
Ah. Didn't know there eas a 3rd party website. Thx for the info everybody I gona go make a paypal

Hi,
Before stating my question I'd just like to say that I have searched for an answer to my problem, but I haven't really found anything clear. If I've missed something completely obvious, feel free to slap me & link it
Right, so basically I've been trying to unlock the bootloader for my Xperia Play R800i using the method found on the sonymobile.com website. However, when I get onto the service menu (doing all that fancy *#*#737 stuff) it tells me "Bootloader unlock allowed: No".
I tried to research about this message and if I could still unlock my bootloader, and I found out that all I needed to do was unlock my sim (I'm on the 3 network). Before going and looking into whatever is needed to get the unlock code, I read somewhere that it wasn't just as simple as unlocking the sim on it's own.
From here I'm kind of lost, and have no idea what to do - any help would be really appreciated
If there's any information you need and I haven't given, just ask for it and I'll try to get it to the best of my ability.
Oh, and I'm not exactly the most tech-savvy person
Try http://unlock-bootloader.com/ it costs $24 but that's for the cost of the credit in the program used. He makes no money off of it
Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a go and see how it turns out

Just an encouragement - I had mine done last weekend. Alejandrissimo is very reliable, friendly and quick. It's well worth the small fee involved.

Ah, cool - shall definitely look into it then
Edit: Just done the service, and it was great! Thanks for recommending it.
Sorry, this has probably been answered a million times, but I cant find written in stone advice.
I have an Xperia Play which I love, but I want to run Darkforest on, because it looks awesome. Problem is when I went to the sony website about unlocking the bootloader and typed the code in, it said
"able to unlock bootloader - No"
Does this mean I can never do it, or can I just not do it through Sony?
Would getting O2 to sim unlock do anything?
Does testpoint unlocking get through this?
No one seems to have solid advice and Sony are dragging their heels when it comes to ICS for the Play.
Thanks!
You can unlock, just not with the Sony method, which uses fastboot.
Getting o2 to unlock your sim won't make a difference, since you need fastboot.
The test point method will work. Using a tool like Omnius will unlock your bootloader, sim, and fastboot simultaneously.

Is Omnius working well with the play now, i heard varying comments on its success with most people recommending to pay someone with SETool to do it ?

Alejandrissimo is the guy for unlocks. Heard nothing but good things about him

The only negative comment I remember seeing about Omnius was from a guy who does unlocking with setool.
It worked perfectly for me first try.

Omnius unlike SETool, requires you to have the battery inserted right? That makes it much harder to use.
@OP. I recommend contacting jinx13 on here, he unlocked my bootloader, and i only have good things to say about him

No, the battery doesn't need to be inserted. I just plugged it in and connected the test point and it worked.
In the thread about the free promo they did during Easter weekend, there's a fairly detailed post by me stating exactly what I did.

What that mean? (Other than just charge it) I've removed some of the basic apps that not needed as listed on this page:
http://www.xperiagamer.com/PLAY-Apps-Tweaks/more-internal-memory-root.html
Also I bought a 3600 mah battery from ebay which is all in the phone and what not. Can't believe how much of an improvement it is over my old wildfire s
Install xrecovery. Even if you don't wanna install custom roms atm it is an invaluable tool for rooted phone/w ul bootloaders.

It does this.
I am thinking of getting an Xperia Play 4G off Craigslist for ~$100 to use as a gaming device. Do you think this is worth it? Or should I just stick with my DS?
Also, what are the steps for installing a custom rom on the AT&T model? Is there a bootloader to unlock? Would I have to flash special stuff (lol)? I know how to flash everything and all this, just don't really have the time to search the whole forum and pick out the details and instructions and stuff.
THANKS
Respond, guys!!!!!!

You would have to pay to unlock the bootloader. The cost is $24- $26 can't really remember. That's the only thing about the at&t model. I think it is very worth it at $100, especially when comparing to a DS lol. No offense. You might still play your ds though as there isn't any ds emulator out. So yea, I think it worth it for gaming becuase no other phone has a gamepad lol. Goodluck man
Thanks man!

After shooting some searches on Q&A about unlocking bootloader on xperia play with "Rooting Status: No", I've learned that unlocking can still be achieved (Take note that I didn't find any steps, only references). So I went searching for guides to do so, but without success. If anyone got a direct link to such a guide, I would really appreciate it!
Please note that there is a 0,01% chance of retardation and missing the guides, when they were in front of my eyes.
Thank you in advance!
You must pay 24$ to get it done from Alejandrissimo. That's the only way.
Trust me it's worth it. http://unlock-bootloader.com/

I trust you, but the problem is that I can't pay any money via internet, not that I don't have them, it's just that I don't have any methods available to do so at this point.

Well, I just went to Western Union with one of my parents and sent some money to him and then he did it I suggest you do the same if you can.
You can go down to your local store, buy a $25 prepaid card, give him the stuff, and done! He'll unlock it!
Well the thing I want to know still is how he does it. Do I send him the money and the phone? Or just the money and he gives me a code? Or what is actually happening.

he uses teamviewer and guides you through it, he charges because it costs him to buy the tokens or whatever you want to call them. They have to be bought in batch.

Good guy, he unlocked my boot loader in a matter of minutes. The hardest part was removing that damn sticker, mine was like super glued on or something. That and bridging the connection while attaching the USB. If only I had 3 arms... O the possibilities...
