When I went into CWM Recovery to install SuperUser into my phone, all I can access was my built in SD Card of my phone. I couldn't access my ExtSDCard in CWM.
This is what showed up when I went to Install zip from sdcard -> Choose zip from sdcard this is what showed up:

What is showing here is the built-in SD card of my Galaxy S III. When I go to "My Files" on my phone, it shows extSDCard and sdcard. sdcard is the built-in one, which is what CMW is showing.
And when I went to "Mount and Storage" this is what was there:
I tried mount /external_sd but it was just the same. I have already installed Super User but I just want to know how to fix this problem in CMW for future use.
From what I've found searching you can only install from the internal memory.
Really? That is weird. On my HTC MyTouch 4g I was able to use my external sd card to install/flash everything.
With twrp you can choose either one. The latest version of cwm also is supposed to support both but I haven't used it.
Sounds like your using an old version.
Go to clockworkmod.com/rommanager to download the latest version.

The way Samsung uses storage snd the sdcard is much different than htc.
You will also find it doesn't support UMS.

If I flash Cyanogenmod 10, would it support it then?
Not sure. I didn't stay on it long. Maybe a couple of hours. Ask in the cm10 thread if you dont get the answer here. Sorry.
Fyi, there is an app called SGS3 Easy UMS that will mount either int or ext as UMS. Cant remember which. Ill check and post back.

Ah, thx, I just updated my CMW, it works fine now.
problem with extsdcard
I update my Galaxy S3 to Jelly Bean and now I have extSdCard and cwm 6.0.1.2 the latest version can't mount the extsdcard. When I try to make a backup to the "external_sd" it says that "can't mount backup path". It is not supported yet? Thanks
CWM works with both, internal and external sd cards. I had to find out via trial and error. I bought a 64gb card that worked fine with the system but not with CWM. This is because those cards are pre formated with extFat file system, which is not a problem for the Android but it is for the CMW. I had to use special sd card formating tool to format the sd card to FAT32 (formating using windows system did not help).
Basically you must format your external sd card in FAT32 file system for use with both CWM and android..... Hope that helps.

I want to partition my SD card via Rom Manager; however, after I press "Partition SD Card" and choose the size I want, it asks me if I'm sure that I want to reboot and continue. I press OK but nothing happens.
I guess there's something that I'm supposed to do that I'm not doing, any help?
thanks

are you rooted
yes, of course.
If you don't seem to see what causes the problem,
can someone plz explain an other way to partition the SD card?
thanks!
ahh dragon, i'm after a fix for this too. I think its because ROM Manager creates a Ext2 partition and Froyo needs Ext3 but don't quote me on that. I have a post open too asking for alternative things for this.
If you have a spare CD lying around I'd suggest Gparted. its an awesome Live CD bootable program that will do it easily.
I burned the iso to a CD, but I don't get how to start it :S
is your card formatted as fat32? i think this is required.

I partitioned sd card from usb (pushed files from windows) recovery, before I flashed Amon Ra, but it should be as usual:
swap 0, ext 2 512 mb, rest fat 32, ext 2 to ext 3
i'm currently running leedroid 3.0.8.2 a2sd+, rooted using the unrevoked method and i purchased a new sd card.
last time i partitioned i used rom manager successfully but if i simply swap cards with the fat 32 data transfered the phone won't boot past the splash screen.
i've tried to use gparted but my pc refuses to boot from the iso file no matter what format i use (cd, usb drive).
should i be trying to simply copy both partitions to the new sd card and if so how?
apologies if this has come up before but i was unable to find a suitable answer to my specific problem.
When you made your gparted CD, did you just copy the .iso to CD, or actually burn it?
Mistake I made was to dl gparted to desktop, insert disk and drag and drop gparted straight in. Wouldn't work until I used Nero (or other burn software) to burn to disk.
Also, try MiniPartitionWizard. You can dl home edition for free and works very well. Simple too.
The simplest way I find to partition sd card is via recovery. Tutorial here:
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/12/...tition-on-sd-card-with-clockworkmod-recovery/
I burnt the ISO as a data disc using Nero, no joy.
I'll try that mini partition tool next. Thanks all

Minitool is a bag of crap. If you want to break your sd card and spend hours trying to figure out why it doesnt work when everything looks ok, then go for minitool.
Many will say "it worked fine for me" and thats true, it has worked for many, but it has also failed for many.
I highly recommend staying with gparted.
If you dont get along with burning CD's, it may take a little longer but using a vmware player (virtual machine) removes the need for a physical CD (just boots the .iso). I have a link to my guides in my signature. I have a step by step guide to do this.
+ 1 for gparted
Hi, I'm relatively new to this myself but am currently running LeeDrOiD 3.0.8.2
I bought a new SD card and partitioned it with gparted but I could not copy the ext3 data across. The phone would not boot.
I replaced the original SD card and used titanium backup for all my apps and data and reinstalled LeeDrOiD clearing the data, cache and dalvik in recovery first.
Of course you need gparted to run first. I use the USB boot with Jo problem.
Hope this helps.

Easier way... Copy all onto your new SD... Nandroid before so up to date one is also put on your SD
Then restore nandroid... This will also restore your SD ext

E:Can't mount /sdcard
So at the moment my phone is useless. I tried formatting my SD card (My SD card does mount to my computer properly) and that didn't work. I also don't have another SD card to use at the moment. Is there a way to fix this or

Did you wipe the SD Card? If so, you won't have anything on it to install. Is the card partitioned? You should probably try re-flashing your Recovery, using a PC36IMG file in the bootloader.

Well. No apps to SD. No biggie I thought. I'm trying to upgrade some of my apps. However I'm getting failed messages. Out of disk space. However I have plenty of space on both my internal and SD cards. What gives. I looked at the output of df. I also have plenty of available space on every mount. Anyone know how to fix or work around this bug? It's annoying at best.
If someone sees something I'm missing please fill me in.

488MB out if 16GB is NOT plenty of space...
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
It is when the package to install is 1.3megs, and keep in mind many supplemental apps won't install to the actual external drive.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
figure out what is eating 6.79GB clear that. problem solved
I know what is using the space. Basically you two seem to think that 400+ MB of space is not enough to install a 1.3mb package?
On older devices, internal storage was broken up into 2 or more partitions with one small "internal" storage partition pertaining to application installs and the other the sdcard for user storage. That does not appear to be the case anymore in jellybean or at least not on this device. I simply asked because it was strange that I couldn't find a trace of any such storage point that would explain my issue.
*edit - lost my cool for a minute removed an unnecessary fire starter*
At this point I'm symlinking installed data to work around the issue. Thanks anyway.

Root and use directory bind for apps2sd until they come out with and update to fix it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
I've heard a little about directory bind, isn't it essentially doing the same thing I'm doing except just with a GUI instead of cli?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Tap where it says "Miscellaneous files" and it will sort by size. Delete some of them.
You're using all your space.
Play store downloads to /cache first. Are you rooted/running a custom ROM? You're cache partition is probably loaded with old files and crap. Go into recovery, wipe cache (dalvik too, for that matter) and reboot. That should fix it
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
I don't think its.cache, the partition has lots of available space to the tune of 970mb. Ill wipe cache and dalvik anyway. Nothing to lose there. Also directory bind is working better than my ext3 mount strategy. Thanks for that suggestion, I'm using that now instead.

Check out cache in Gallery
I noticed yesterday that the Gallery was eating 5gb just in cache. I cleared the cache and reclaimed the space.
I noticed there is really only 10GB total of internal storage... After installing all my apps and a nand backup or 2 i was down to 2GB of free space. I installed ROM Toolbox Pro and ran the Apps to SD feature then ran titanium Backup and ran the APPS to SD batch to move everything and now I have 8GB free space on internal storage. I also moved all my nands to the Ext. Storage.
I noticed that the TWRP recovery wont let me do a backup to external SD for some reason. Anyone else with this problem?

Not trying to revive an old thread but i found this post off a search i did and this is better then starting a new thread.
Anyways my question was has anyone used the apps 2sd feature that's embedded within ROM Toolbox pro? Being as the apps2sd in the app store doesn't work on it device and everyone recommends running a script. So you were able to switch your download location of future apps to your external storage? Did they open just fine after that from the app drawer?
I'm not necessarily worried about moving existing apps over rather then having the future ones download to that location. Although if the moving process of current apps goes cleanly i would like to move over my games considering the 3 bigger games are 2.75Gb combined. So it would be nice to move those.
If you could elaborate on the backing up current apps through titanium and them moving the to external and still being able to run them as normal i would certainly appreciate it.
Thanks on advance
Edit: P. S. I also forgot to mention I have done multiple twrp nan backups to external and they go flawlessly. My very first Stock Rooted backup i keep on internal just incase something goes awol on my external sd. But i also have a copy of that backup along with all my custom ROM backups on the external.
I have inserted a new 64GB micro SD card in my N7100. I am able to see it fine via the phone at Settings -> Storage. I placed a flashable zip on it using AirDroid.
Went to CWM, then 'choose zip from external sdcard' and it shows:

I am also unable to do a backup via CWM. It says:

I'm still not sure why Cwm won't mount the external sd card, but I copied the rom & gapps file to the internal memory. It worked from there!
I Solved It
First Solution : (Simple)
For E : Can't mount /external_sd/ you should format your sd card with your device :
Setting >> Storage >> Format SD card
***NOTE: Backup your information from SD Card.
Now Reboot with CWM and choose backup to external sdcard.
Second Solution :
I have Same Problem with galaxy tab2 p3100.
1st you install stock rom your device.
2nd Try first solution!!!
If its Worked Like Me!!!:good::good::good:
