[Q] Galaxy Nexus GSM, rom flashing problems, Ive tried everything - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Alright so here is my problem. I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus. I accidentally did some wiping and I am currently left with:
Unlocked bootloader
Bootloader Access
Clock Work Mod Recovery Touch 6.0.0.0
NO ROM
Ive tried different recoveries. Ive tried many different roms. At first the names of the .zip files didnt appear in CWM, now they are. But no matter what recovery or .zipped rom I use it still says : Opening Update Package, Installing Update, Installation Aborted. It does the same thing in other recoveries such as TWRP and just says Failed. I need to get a ROM, any rom booted on my galaxy nexus. I am using a mac, but I do have access to a Windows XP machine, however its ADB is very finicky. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I am in great need of help right now.
Anything?
Thanks

In fastboot, flash the boot.img, system.img and userdata.img (THIS WILL WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE) of an appropriate official stock ROM image from Google. Then boot up the phone. It will regenerate the data/internal storage partition as it boots into stock.
Then if you want to go flashing again, reflash CWM from fastboot, boot into CWM, and flash away.
Sometimes the issue is, if you've borked up the data or internal storage, flashing from recovery won't do the trick anymore.

Alright Im about to try that, if for some reason my internal storage is messed up, what else can I do?

If re flashing userdata from fastboot fails, then you probably have a hardware problem.

[Q] error mounting /data & /sdcard

I'm stuck on logo boot screen. I believe the problem is because I formatted the root partition of phone.
I can get into to download mode and install stock firmware. I can also install recovery like TWRP, OUDHS or CWM
I can't do factory reset b/c phone can't mount /data. It can't format /sdcard either
Any ideas? I'm thinking I need the pit file to restore the partition table but having trouble locating one
This happened before with my Galaxy Player and I was able to restore with stock firmware & pit

I figured it out. Instead of factory reset with TWRP or CWM I tried with stock Samsung recovery
I Odin stock recovery. Sorry I forgot where I download it from but it was in one of these threads
(1) Put in download mode. Then Odin stock firmware (everything unchecked)
(2) Unplug USB cable & pull battery. Boot into recovery (vol up + power). It took a few tries to do this
(3) Factory reset & wipe data
(4) Reboot
Hope this helps anyone else with same problem

Many people have had this problem.
When you're asked for a password, hit cancel. Then go to Wipe and Factory Reset. If that doesn't work, then restart your recovery. If that still doesn't work then try reflashing TWRP again.
When you do the fastboot oem unlock, you should do it using stock recovery and let it reboot and wipe data.
Then boot back into bootloader to install twrp.
Don't do both at the same time.

I did... was running fine a few days and all of sudden this happened. Wiping data did but i still could not restore data from backup i had to reset and restore from titanium.
When TWRP does this to me I reboot into system then with goomanager I reinstall TWRP. It seems that some changes in the system cause this. AOSP Browser appears to do this to me or the kernel as those are the only thing I have on that modifies the system. Need more testing

Hi, I have the same problem and I can't boot my tablet in normal mode, it remains frozen on start animation screen. I started unlocking bootloader with no problems and the problem started after i install the TWRP 2.6.3.0. I'm on Android 4.3.1 (JLS36I). I can't wipe or mount /data, I can't enter in ADB Sideload mode.
I tried to fix it installing TWRP again and I also installed CWM but with the same result.
I was trying to find the original recovery image but with no success.
Any idea about how to get out of this mess?
Thanks!

If it is frozen on X then your /data is messed up. Do a wipe data factory reset from recovery.
If it is frozen on Google, then your /system is messed up, to a nowipe factory image restore.
It is doubtful TWRP caused this problem. Most likely your tablet corrupted /data and it only showed up after a reboot.

It was frozen on X but I couldn't wipe it because it didn't mount /data, all the wipe commands failed.
Now I could fix the problem. What I did was to connect an external drive through USB-OTG and I installed the SuperSu zip (the step where I was stuck), after that I could format data and perform a Factory Reset. After the first complete boot, the TWRP stopped to ask password and everything seems to be OK.
Thanks!

[Q] Performed factory reset, now won't boot

I'm selling my HTC One (stock ROM, unlocked) so I wanted to wipe my data, apps and settings. I performed a factory reset/data wipe in CWM and rebooted and it would get stuck at the Verizon logo. I cleared cache, tried again, and got stuck at "Android is updating, Starting apps" for a good 20 minutes. Now it goes back to the Verizon logo.
Does the factory reset not leave the ROM intact? What can I do now just so it'll boot to a clean slate?

Download the stock rooted odexed ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319
After you flash it, wipe data and boot up.
Then flash the latest firmware and stock recovery through Fastboot (also that thread), and do another factory wipe using stock recovery.
Your S-Off / Unlocked status will not be affected by this.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I've been at it for a good 5 hours now and I can't get past the first step.
Using TWRP, I've tried adb push <rom.zip> to /sdcard/, /mnt/sdcard/ and /data/media/ and every time it says it's successful, but the directories show up empty in TWRP. Without a removable SD card, I'm not sure how else I can get the ROM on the phone for flashing. I'm not sure if it's related or not, but everytime I reboot from TWRP, it says my phone isn't rooted. I select "Install" but it occurs again, even though supersu.apk is on the internal storage.
I also tried CWM but couldn't get past "format () expected 5 args, got 4. Installation aborted (Status 7)".
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get TWRP to flash the ROM? Thanks.
Try this cmd instead.
Code:
adb push nameofrom.zip /data/media/0/nameofrom.zip

I recently returned my phone to stock in order to reset all the firmware and RIL data. Here is how I did it:
Enter recovery TWRP 2.6.3.4 (if you have 2.6.3.3 you may experience issues)
Boot into recovery, then format Data, System, Cache, and Internal Storage (this will leave the phone with NO ROM installed)
Reboot back into recovery. Answer No to the prompt to root your device.
Once back in recovery, Internal Memory will be available again (if you push the ROM before rebooting, it will not be there afterward)
Push the ROM using adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/ROM.zip (this will take 5-7 minutes for a 1.4GB file)
Flash the ROM in TWRP
Reboot when done, phone should boot up corrrectly
Reboot into Fastboot, push firmware.zip package
Reboot into ROM verify connectivity
Reboot into Fastboot, push stock recovery
Reboot into stock recovery, perform a Factory Reset
Boot into ROM
Once you are up and running on the latest 4.4.2 ROM with stock recovery, boot into Fastboot one last time and push TWRP 2.6.3.4. Your S-Off will not be affected and the new owner will be able to flash any ROMs they like.
If all of the above fails, then try using ADB Sideload from the Advanced menu in TWRP.
You guys are a life saver. TWRP 2.6.3.4 did the trick, it just wasn't available on the TWRP site so I didn't install it in the first place. Flashed the ROM and everything back to normal! Thanks for the help!
FWIW, none of the m7 versions of TWRP would load (stuck at "Entering Bootloader" screen). The Sprint version would load, but wouldn't mount the filesystem properly.

So what state is the phone in now? Stock w/ HTC recovery, or the Sprint TWRP?

The former, stock. The Sprint TWRP loaded but didn't work right. I ended up finding 2.6.3.4 for VZW m7 on an xda thread, it's not on the TWRP site for some reason. That worked great.

I tried to factory format my phone through TWRP, then when I tried to restart again, it never comes back.
I still have access to TWRP, but when I install zip files I downloaded, it always failed. I tried to use Odin, it failed to flash an image in.
Plz help me.
Many thanks.

What format option did you select in TWRP and hope you didn't accidently remove your OS? The device could fail to boot if you don't have an OS installed. You may be able to flash a complete stock restore image via TWRP. Would you recall what Android version you were on before the brick? Also what is your phone model and carrier?

Mine was ATT S3 I747 with Android 4.3 system. I did wipe my OS during recovery. That caused the whole problem. Then I use TWRP to flash a system and a kernel in. I was unable to flash bootloader and modem in; I did not know what is the problem. The weird thing is that I successfully start my phone and used it for a while. When I rebooted it, it dies again. I tried to install the some boot update in this January. It never works again. Any advise?

You can try flashing a complete stock system to get your phone back to working condition. Since you already had 4.3, flashing zips often fails if there is a bootloader incompatibility. The stock restore should do it. Please go to the following thread ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Download the stock restore zip to your PC. Use another device or something to load it to a (micro) SD card. Insert the card into your phone. Boot into recovery mode and flash from TWRP. When done, wipe your cache/dalvik and reboot to system. Let's know if this works for you.

TWRP cannot mount /data or /system

I finally got unlocked, installed ADB/Fastboot on my computer, and flashed TWRP. (Followed this guide)
TWRP starts up with no problem, and flashed Magisk 'successfully', however I don't have root and I can't install any ROMs.
The problem appears to be TWRP cannot mount /system or /data. I've tried reflashing it to no avail. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: Since the reflash attempt it won't boot into anything other than TWRP. That's inconvenient.
Edit Edit: After letting the phone sit for ~5 minutes doing nothing, I was suddenly able to mount /data and flash a ROM. Unfortunately, my device still only boots to TWRP, and once again I can't mount /data or /system.

Are you sure you formatted data? That's different than a wipe. Try rebooting into fastboot mode, connecting your phone to a computer and typing the command "fastboot format userdata" (fastboot is 1word) and then rebooting (unless you have already tried this). If you have make sure you are using the latest official TWRP for this device (not a modded one) and try flashing your ROM again. Also, some custom ROMs won't boot up if you flash Magisk at the same time. You need to flash the ROM and Gapps (if desired) and then fully boot into the system. After you have successfully booted into the ROM you can go back into recovery and flash Magisk.
Sir, I believe you can benefit from this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-2/how-to/mix-pack-simple-user-twrp-adaway-supersu-t3792753
Even if you are not intending on using MIUI, this should bring your phone to stock (with unlocked bootloader).

That did the trick. I am 100% sure I was formatting data though. I'm up and booting custom ROMs now. Problems abound, of course, but that's what makes it fun.
Thanks everyone for helping out!
Try flashing the official TWRP from https://dl.twrp.me/chiron/twrp-3.2.1-0-chiron.img
I had the same problem. Just download the latest version from web or play store to fix the issue.
