[Q] error mounting /data & /sdcard - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm stuck on logo boot screen. I believe the problem is because I formatted the root partition of phone.
I can get into to download mode and install stock firmware. I can also install recovery like TWRP, OUDHS or CWM
I can't do factory reset b/c phone can't mount /data. It can't format /sdcard either
Any ideas? I'm thinking I need the pit file to restore the partition table but having trouble locating one
This happened before with my Galaxy Player and I was able to restore with stock firmware & pit

I figured it out. Instead of factory reset with TWRP or CWM I tried with stock Samsung recovery
I Odin stock recovery. Sorry I forgot where I download it from but it was in one of these threads
(1) Put in download mode. Then Odin stock firmware (everything unchecked)
(2) Unplug USB cable & pull battery. Boot into recovery (vol up + power). It took a few tries to do this
(3) Factory reset & wipe data
(4) Reboot
Hope this helps anyone else with same problem

Installed CWM, but I don't have the options for flashing internally

I flashed CWM via Odin and rebooted into Recovery Mode, but there is no option to flash a mod or tar from internal storage. I have 5 options in my CWM menu and they are as follows.
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
I have the mods loaded on the root of my internal storage, but CWM wont let me get to them.
I tried flashing a stock recovery via Odin, failed.
I can turn on my phone and it works just fine, but I cannot get CWM to let me root the phone.
Any help?

Are you sure you flashd clockwork mod and not stock? It sounds like stock recovery is what you have. try flashing this in
Odin https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16085428/CWM-6.0.1.2/recovery.tar.md5
Sounds like stock recovery to me not clockwork recovery

This kind of happened to me, I have rooted plenty of devices prior to my SG3 and with CWM flashed through Odin 3.04 (Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time) checked. Everything passed as it should have and phone reboots normally. Upon powering down i went into recovery finding the stock recovery still there, NOT CWM's recovery.
Doing some research I found that if you check ONLY F. Reset Time and NOT Auto Reboot you will flash the device with a PASS and then the Download mode screen will stay on the device. Making sure that you have the USB cable removed at this point remove the battery. Replace the battery and reboot into recovery mode and you will see that your phone goes into Clockworkmod Recovery! BUT you only get this once, you have to repeat the steps using ODIN to flash CWM every time you want to use it, what a pain in the butt, especially if you do not have Triangle Away. I belive this is because of the new OTA update from Sprint (so I've heard).
Now i have the same kind of issue because apparently when i run CWM's ROM manager it says i have no CWM recovery installed after i have done it counless times.
Has anyone ran into this use as well? OP is this kind of the same issue you have? at the top of your Recovery screen it will tell you clear as day if you are using the stock recovery or CWM.
I say take the guessing out of it...Use TWRP

[Q] Can't erase user data partition

So I woke up this morning and I was running CM10, goo manager told me I had an update so I applied the update and low and behold it was CM9 on boot. Needless to say CM9 would not boot because nothing was wiped. So I decided to go back and re-flash 10 (CWM touch). So wiped and it said could not mount user data. after re-flashing it again would not boot. so I downloaded odin3 and the stock sprint rom and tried flashing that. No dice Odin screen gets stuck on "Erasing userdata.." for like 10 minutes, after it gets past the sprint LTE animation and get stuck booting in the glowing samsung screen. Also I cannot mount /SDcard in recovery but i can mount the external. I also cannot adb to the device. any Ideas????

Sounds like odin flash is a success. When in recovery, can you wipe data/factory reset without error? That is a MUST after the odin flash. So boot into recovery and wipe

No dice. The default android recovery was put back from the stock odin re-flash, it comes up with "ERROR unable to mount /Userdata.." "Cannot Find /Userdata.."

Assuming you haven't already tried. See if a custom recovery can wipe or mount it. try to factory reset with TWRP (attched odin flash) and report back

Bricked SGN2

Bricked my SGN2 probably wiped the the efs and now its corupted it says in recovery failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)
I was on emotion note 2 rom v4.5 then i flashed droid turk v3 and then assasin rom v7 till then it was fine and then i decided to go back to emotion rom v4.5 the problem starts from here as soon as i booted my phone after installing emotion rom there was no gsm so i decided to revert back to assasin rom but problem still exists then i tried wiping data cache no change at all then i flashed stock rom 4.1.1 via odin and after that i am stuck on samsung boot screen loop tried installing cwm recovery and then wiping again nothing happens my phone is still stuck on boot loop.
My phone is in warranty but i can't claim it until the binary counter is reset as it is 4 now so is there any way to reset counter via odin or recovery.
I nearly tried everything but in vain i have efs backup but its in .tar.gz format so i can't flash it via odin nor can i restore via recovery.
Anyone with help will be appreciated please help me guys its been 2 days my phone's been in this mental trauma

try a different cable/usb input on the computer, if that doesn't work download again and make sure the checksum is correct if possible
if that doesn't work try flashing philz recovery from odin, untick the reboot option, then boot into recovery without booting normally
then wipe everything and start over
good luck

Many people have had this problem.
When you're asked for a password, hit cancel. Then go to Wipe and Factory Reset. If that doesn't work, then restart your recovery. If that still doesn't work then try reflashing TWRP again.
When you do the fastboot oem unlock, you should do it using stock recovery and let it reboot and wipe data.
Then boot back into bootloader to install twrp.
Don't do both at the same time.

I did... was running fine a few days and all of sudden this happened. Wiping data did but i still could not restore data from backup i had to reset and restore from titanium.
When TWRP does this to me I reboot into system then with goomanager I reinstall TWRP. It seems that some changes in the system cause this. AOSP Browser appears to do this to me or the kernel as those are the only thing I have on that modifies the system. Need more testing

Hi, I have the same problem and I can't boot my tablet in normal mode, it remains frozen on start animation screen. I started unlocking bootloader with no problems and the problem started after i install the TWRP 2.6.3.0. I'm on Android 4.3.1 (JLS36I). I can't wipe or mount /data, I can't enter in ADB Sideload mode.
I tried to fix it installing TWRP again and I also installed CWM but with the same result.
I was trying to find the original recovery image but with no success.
Any idea about how to get out of this mess?
Thanks!

If it is frozen on X then your /data is messed up. Do a wipe data factory reset from recovery.
If it is frozen on Google, then your /system is messed up, to a nowipe factory image restore.
It is doubtful TWRP caused this problem. Most likely your tablet corrupted /data and it only showed up after a reboot.

It was frozen on X but I couldn't wipe it because it didn't mount /data, all the wipe commands failed.
Now I could fix the problem. What I did was to connect an external drive through USB-OTG and I installed the SuperSu zip (the step where I was stuck), after that I could format data and perform a Factory Reset. After the first complete boot, the TWRP stopped to ask password and everything seems to be OK.
Thanks!

[Q] T999 I think I bricked my phone

Help. I think I bricked my phone. I was running S3Rx 3.0 with JB4.3 on my T999 GS3. I attempted to update the rom to its latest version 3-20-14. I made a nandroid backup. I wiped cache and dalvik and then tried to install the zip file in TWRP, but it said install failed. I tried again with same failed results. I then did a factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik, data and system. I tried to flash the zip file and it failed again. So giving up on the failed update, I then restored my nandroid backup. After the restore was complete, I rebooted the phone and it got stuck at bootup with the Samsung logo and the blue LED light. I let it sit for over 15 minutes and it was still stuck there. I powered off the phone and went back into TWRP recovery and repeated the restore and reboot again, and it was stuck at that same part for over 15 minutes. Should it take that long? I've done backups and restores in the past and I don't recall it having take that long to bootup.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Please let me know if you need more explanation. Thanks in advance.
Try using odin to update the recovery system and flashing a rom.

It's been a long while since I used odin. I want to get the steps right before I risk further damaging my phone. Should I download odin and latest TWRP tar file to my pc. Put my phone into download mode and go thru the odin process...run as admin, placing tar file in pda... Then do I reboot into recovery mode? From there I'm not sure what to do. How do I flash a rom to my phone? Do or can I download a zip file via odin? One other option I thought of is to odin root66. So am I actually downloading 2 files via odin? Sorry for my confusion.
Ok, so I odined root66. My phone initially booted up to stock, but I got a pop up "unfortunately system ui has stopped". I went to recovery mode to do a factory reset. It took me to android system recovery. Apparently i lost my TWRP recovery. I did a factory reset and rebooted. Hallelujah!! my phone booted up into stock successfully. Whew...
Cool.
Sorry I couldnt respond earlier, I just woke up.
I always keep copies of odin flashable packages for the latest cwm and twrp recoveries just in case some craziness happens.
Ive had a similar issue when dualbooting. Recovery seemed to work 100% but one bad flash sent me into a bootloop I couldnt get out of. Booting to recovery just tried booting my corrupt 2nd rom and I had to odin cwm on to stop the boot script from locking me out of recovery.

All part of the hazards of tinkering with the phone. It goes with the territory. But as long as I can get into download or recovery mode I believe there's always a fighting chance.
Separately I reinstalled TWRP via odin. Next will be to reflash the custom rom.
