hello, at times my proximity sensor glows red and it never goes down. when this happens i felt the screen heating up and battery draining to 0 pretty fast, any suggestions or solution to it?
Best regards,
Deependra
If you downloaded the latest Viber update then that is the problem. Lots of people complaining of it, I had to uninstall Viber for the same reason.
Hope they fix it soon.
Same issue here.

Viber latest update is doing that. Removing it fixed the problem for me.
You can simply "Exit" Viber & the sensor will go back to normal until Viber starts again.

True, it doesn't not go off after viber runs, even after... for me it dd not work even after exiting viber...
Thats strange, I have seen this problem in my HOX, and in an another HOX and a SG3. In all 3, the sensor would immediately stop glowing once I hit Exit in Viber.
Thats right it works for me! Thanx a lot.

Does anyone notice this? I just started noticing this a few days ago at first it would only engage during a call now its on all the time and it seems to correspond to a recent faster battery drain

What behavior does your phone exhibit?

It's caused by an app you have installed. I had an issue with this too. The app causing it for me was lux which is an auto screen brightness app.
Good luck finding it.

Dang i do not have an app like that just apps like voxer and games lol

If your brightness is on auto it will always stay on too, the proximity and light sensor are in the same chip right next to the FFC

I thought that and i have since turned it off and rebooted still on

Do you have any of the flip to mute or proximity to speaker or pocket mode options enabled? I'm not familiar with the rom you're using so I'm not even sure those options are there but they can keep the prox/light sensor awake for them to work

none of those
Hi,
Just searched through another website while I'm facing this issue, do you have viber installed? If so, just launch your viber and exit the application and the proximity sensor will goes off. This works for me.
Please try.

This is for correct. Viber is the culprit. Thanks for letting us know. My battery drained 60% overnight last night. I was shocked, coz usually iit's only about 15%.
However just killing the Viber app did not work for me. Doing that would switch off the proximity sensor momentarily, and as soon as the app is restarted, the sensor would come on as well. Hope Viber are already aware of this issue and fix it soon. In the meantime, I've switched off Viber thru its Setting menu. Seems to have done the trick.

Hello!
Thank you for resolved issue! Same thing here.
Viber become pretty messy! Since two or three updates ago it will not sync to my phone book, neither I can see it as account among the other accounts in my phone. 3-4 months ago everything was fine. Viber is going downhill...
Thanks a lot! This drove me crazy!
viber
thx a lot it was driving me crazy too
This worked for me too. I think its a new version of Viber, in older versions there was no problem.
I recently changed my mini-jack and my speaker on the HTC Desire.. Now I got a new problem during calls, my screen goes black as usual during calls. But when I try to make it responsive again - it wont act.. Only way to fix it, is to restart my phone.. I read something about the sensor, but never found a way to fix it..
How can I fix this problem?
Best regards,
DanVazz
Your proximity sensor is broken, likewise is mine. In some ROMs (CM7 definitely), you can wake the phone with power.
i've the same problem, but it's cause of a bug of my current rom(nikez ics). i solved with a cpu governor change, form ondemand to conservative.

glad to hear that, enjoy
Hmm maybe that's why mine's broken.
EDIT: Nope, it was there.
Problem: i call somebody, calling is delayed for about 5 seconds, same with whenever i end the call, the screen stays for about 5seconds.
And sometimes, when the screen is off and when i answer the call, it becomes a miss call. Anybody experience the same?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Me. I think this is something that happens on all smartphones. They are computers with the ability to make calls, not dedicated phones with the ability to compute... But I agree, that delay in starting/ending calls should be seriously adressed. It costed me already a few money!
Dusturm, You are on stock or custom rom? I'm using ARHD

I have a problem too with calling and hanging up, doesn't happen all the time.
Sometimes when I make a call my phone will try to ring the number and then just hang up and not even ring and this is with full signal.
If I try to end a call the screen stay on and pressing the end call button doesn't respond I have to wait for the other person to end the call or my screen responds after a while. I'm on stock, I think this is normal for HTC my old desire used to do this too.

Yeah I experience this, sometimes I answer the call, but it goes into a missed call.

Guys, when you were flashing rom into your device last time did you perform a full wipe/factory reset? Cause I didn't and when I flashed exactly the same rom (and ver.) couple of hours ago but this time full wiping I got rid of the "end call" bug! Backup everything important with titanium and full wipe!
Same issue here. Started suddenly last week (after 4 months of owning hoc). Had args 9.3.2 at the time. For week all was fine then it started for no reason after few apps updated. Flashed 9.7.0 with full wipe. All ok till installed all my apps. Done again same. Done again same. Done again and installed apps one by one testing. Managed to install all apps all was good. Next day started again.

Do you have any application that is linked to the dialer? Such as a different dialer or a contact management app etc..?
Hi guys m facing a strange issue. I have observed that sometimes my proximity sensor remains on. I tried to find out the app causing it by Force Stopping each app one by one but that doesn't solve the problem. .
I am not using any motion like quick glance which uses the sensor or any other app like turning the screen on off (eg smart cover etc)
only a reboot fixes this issue but after sometime (say few hours or 1-2 days) the sensor turns on. . Can you suggest me what else shall I do? coz m observing more than normal battery drain in stand by mode. . Please help!

I too have noticed it and posted it on a thread also
I also notice this..only now i came to know that it is proximity sensor..will appear as a dim red right and if it stays on, it turns off only if restarted..might be a bug..should we report it to samsung so that they will fix it in updates?
I have noticed one thing that after 2+ or more (random) days of usage if I receive/make a call the sensor doesn't turn off. .might be this is a s/w bug. .but this is what I have noticed after closely monitoring my phone. .

I've noticed this too! Didn't know the dim red light was proximity sensor. But i've noticed it only twice (with battery below 40% on both occasions).
Viber has a known bug that cause the proximity sensor to be always on. If you uses it, u need to update to the latest version i think its v2.2.3.109.

Even though I first got this proximity sensor bug after I turned on "increase volume in pocket" (only 1 time so far), I'm pretty sure it's not related, because I did a few tests and as far as I could tell the phone increases the volume based on its position (and possibly movement) in the second it receives the call. If it's vertical (like in a pocket), or on its side (like in a bag), when you get a call, it will increase the volume. If the phone is horizontal, like on a table, and starts ringing, the volume doesn't increase, and it won't increase even if you pick it up and move it around while it's ringing.
I also thought initially that it uses data from the proximity sensor, but I tested and it doesn't care if it's covered or not when the phone rings, it appears to use data from the accelerometer/gyro exclusively.
I'm try turn all motion off right now. Let see if it can solve the problem
I have the same problem.
I resolve it by pressing volume up + home + power.
Let it restart and so far after about 1mth+ did not encounter this issue any more.
Hope this help :fingers-crossed:
i have the same problem
all motions are off
and still have it random....only restart to close the sensor
Anyone else experiencing a really long delay when you try to wake your phone up? About 70% of the time when I wake my phone up to just use my phone, it has a bad delay. Most of the time it will take around 7 - 10 seconds for the screen to turn on.
I am stock and un-rooted. I have gone into the stock recovery and cleared the cache partition a couple of times, but that doesn't help. I am really hoping for S-off soon. I'm hoping that a custom rom can fix it.
I'm also experiencing this same problem, drives me insane. I'm hoping that maybe the forthcoming 5.1 update will address that issue.
I've never experienced this. I'm stock still. Kinda sounds like a runway app causing the problem.
Never saw this on launch os or 5.1. Have you tried running it without apps for a while?
Last night I disabled instagram. It seemed to fix the problem so far. I don't use it much anyway. My battery stat still shows it as number 2 on the list. I just uninstalled it. Maybe it will fix some issues.
I have this too...but I'd say only about 30 percent of the time. I use the double tap to wake aout it certainly does not all the time.
Mine does it sometimes. I don't know if it's a delay because I push the power button again and it comes on. Another thing that drives me up the wall is that the screen doesn't wake up after taking the phone away from my ear during a call sometimes. I'll have to push the power button to turn the screen on.

This sounds like either a case problem, or proximity sensor.
You can test the sensor in htc advantage app.

Mine doesn't wake up after a call sometimes. It just started doing the delay thing again. I wonder if it has anything to do with memory leak on 5.0? I may disable a couple games I downloaded this week and see if that fixes it.
