Samsung galaxy s3 4g lte toggle widget ??? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I tried searching but could not find anything similar. is theree anyone that knows of an app or widget so i can toggle the lte / evdo ect on my phone . im looking for something similar to what the original evo 4g had aas a basic on off widget for 4g.
update: beautiful widgets or hd widgets have wifi and 4g toggle but it only works with wimax.
posted this in the "international galaxy s3 forum" by mistake but i guess their lte and our is soo different they have no need for this

Idt there is anything atm
Samsung doesnt have those toglles in widgets?

the system ask for a reboot when you change, so i doubt a widget would be very useful. i don't think you can switch between them ondemand like that..

There isn't a way to manually switch between 3g & 4G LTE, its an automatic switch based on the area you're in. The new 3g signal piggybacks through the LTE hard ware, where the EVO had separate radios that allowed the switching.

Great battery savings by leaving it off, unless needed. I'm in Dallas Meteoplex and avg 2 - 3 mbps on 3g so I leave it off. On stock from I would get about 20hrs on a single charge.

When you don't have a stable connection your phone is always scanning for a better connection. So it will use more battery.
You might want to try updating your APN settings, and possibly try using 2g only at your house.

As someone else said, low signal means the phone works harder to maintain/find signal, which results in more battery usage. I work in what might as well be a faraday cage because of EMI from all of our test systems. If I don't keep it plugged in while I'm at work (or go into airplane mode), it won't last the day, even if I don't touch it.
Find a place with better signal, use a repeater/booster, use airplane mode, or keep it on a charger. Those are about your only options.
Edit: You can also use an app called OpenSignal (free in the play store) to see what tower your phone is connecting to. That could tell you if you just simply don't have a tower close enough.

It's kind of like tethering. It picks up on the signal and "repeats" the signal, except now since you're right next to the cell tower (repeater) you get better signal.

Question regarding leaving on CDMA/LTE vs. CDMA.

So, LTE is not in my area as of yet. Every once in a while, I travel to the city which has LTE. So my question, should I just turn it on when I know I'm going to be using it or can I just leave it on all the time? Will it drain my battery? Thanks!
I would just turn it on when u need it. I'm sure it draws battery cause it will constantly scan for lte

Thanks, much appreciated!
It makes absolutely no difference which mode you have it set to unless you have LTE in your area. It will not drain any additional battery. There is one exception... If you have a Sprint Airrave (home signal booster for areas with poor service), you want to keep it on cdma mode. Cdma/lte mode when connected to the Airrave disrupts text messaging.

Doesn't at all affect my airvana. When I 1st got this phone there was a provisioning issue that disrupted text messages only when connected through airave.

yeah, that makes no sense. a radio searching for a signal once a day is going to draw more power than a radio not searching at all. Now think about if you leave it on all the time. its going to be searching for a LTE signal at whatever interval that the LTEscan timeout and wakeup is set at.
so, short answer, if you are not in an LTE area, turn it off

Toggle for 4g

I'm hoping someone can help me out . I went from a Photon (2.1.3 I think) having a toggle to switch 3g to 4g to the SIII Jellybean mod without this option .
Is it hiding? Is there a working app/widget to switch from one to the other ?
I found the toggle to be usefull cause here in Portland, Or 4g is hit and miss.
I found a 4g toggle on market but it just sends me to Mobile Networks and does nothing.
Thanks

FWIW, the S3's LTE doesn't chew through battery nearly as much as the Photon's Wimax. It doesn't drain much more than a normal 3G connection. You probably won't be able to tell much difference between the battery life with 4G on or off. I just leave mine on, and I don't have any battery drain.
Also, in case Sprint did a terrible job of informing you, the S3 can't use Wimax, so you'll be without 4G until Sprint deploys LTE in Portland. Go to s4gru.com and check the forums for info on your market's Network Vision rollout.

Yeah its really spotty and on/off for me. Weird observation though... I get 4g with my note in places I don't with my Galaxy Nexus.
Darn them, talked to a shentel rep (people that control sprint towers where I am) and these lte siting are just the test sites -_- but hey, at least full lte will be out at the end of the year for me at least, but hey for test speed of anywhere from, 8-20mb down?! I can't complain, but hey, I saw the same speeds with my wimax 4g, so to each his own

With Note 2 i get LTE everywhere in Dallas Ft. Worth. Even traveling to other cities through tolls where development is not really there. Just alot of trees. I even get LTE in most people homes. Nexus never had this strong of a signal and if LTE switched the phone would freeze. I can honestly say this is a good phone.

Turn on LTE

Why wouldn't do me any good if I had the option to select it? I live in Vegas they keep turning it on and off while they test it. I was at the T Mobile store today and one of the reps had their Note running on LTE.

I guess we gotta wait on a leak for this ota then. I was thinking we were ready to roll without any mods but I guess not...
There's already a person with it activated in a test device. He said it has new apns and is based on android 4.1.2, so when you see that update we will have LTE. Right now it is currently only going to be active in Las Vegas, and Kansas City.
There is a CM10 ROM that is suposedly gonna have LTE capablilties. I have not yet tested it but I may at a later date.

I went to *#22693# and came across an LTE option on my T-Mobile Note 2, has it always been there? I thought the bands were not enabled yet.
Currently on LL4 .
Curious, when lte comes out, would it consume a lot more battery power than the current 4g?
And what if your on rooted rom? Will the option be there or will you need to revert to stock for the OTA ?

Tbh id rather wait for the tmobile lte than try and use att. I had my friend at work run speedtest on his and its not much more faster than our hspa+ right now.
My connection on average is around 13-15mps, ive peaked at 22mps too before. The att one that was ran was at about 19mps. Since att is realease 9 lte and tmobile is said to be releasing release 10 lte. Im going to wait and see.
Hopefully the 2 people here can post their speeds with the test devices to see what we can look forward too.

If your connected to LTE you should see about an 30 min to an hour less of battery life, if your connected to "4G" (3G) but your phone is constantly searching for a LTE signal you going to lose about 1:30-2 hours.

Thanks that explains why my battery life has been fluctuating. Even when I am connected to 3G my phone still displays 4G and the battery life consumed is the same when I am connected to either type. Is there anyway to turn on the data connection automatically whenever a particular app requires it?
