id switch carriers or go outside or get a repeater
Just came from atat which had grade speeds and signal always to come back to sprint cause they are way more affordable... But I knew what I was getting back into... It's not so much sprint its Samsung I made a thread about why all Samsung phones specifically Samsung have bad signal
When compared to a photon or htc in the same coverage area.... I must be in a complete dead zone only luck I had is with atat I've tried every carrier. Even vzw

not sure if thats exactly it, but its a signal booster you can install in your home to get signal in areas you cant.
I just got my gnex yesterday and im on ATT and get slightly better signal, i can actually text sitting at my computer, my inspire i had to hold near the window to send/receive.

When you don't have a stable connection your phone is always scanning for a better connection. So it will use more battery.
You might want to try updating your APN settings, and possibly try using 2g only at your house.
Update!!

As someone else said, low signal means the phone works harder to maintain/find signal, which results in more battery usage. I work in what might as well be a faraday cage because of EMI from all of our test systems. If I don't keep it plugged in while I'm at work (or go into airplane mode), it won't last the day, even if I don't touch it.
Find a place with better signal, use a repeater/booster, use airplane mode, or keep it on a charger. Those are about your only options.
Edit: You can also use an app called OpenSignal (free in the play store) to see what tower your phone is connecting to. That could tell you if you just simply don't have a tower close enough.

It's kind of like tethering. It picks up on the signal and "repeats" the signal, except now since you're right next to the cell tower (repeater) you get better signal.

Are you on LTE? If so, the Nexus properly reports the LTE signal, which may be worse because it is not rolled out as widely as the 3G on your Incredible.
Also, the radios on the GNex aren't the best, as is widely noted and complained about.

Maybe, but signal strength is relative to network type and data speeds. What location?

South Carolina on verizon. In Charleston county we have 4g. I get it if I walk down the street but anything in or around my house seems to be a dead zone. It's really irritating and I bet its destroying my battery life.

Outside of the appearance of a "weak" signal, does the device function? Can you make a call? I have a signal of -102db at work because we have crap coverage of all kinds and can still make a clear call on my VZW GNex. Outside of the building I get more bars (like it matters) and can make the same phone call. Obviously data speeds are slower inside than out, but communications still flow.
Edit: Your giant 4.65 inch screen is probably using more juice than your weak signal. It's the price of a big display.

Yes I still can make phone calls, but when I first noticed it I had my wife call me and it didn't ring. So I'm afraid that I'll end up missing phone calls. I'm a firm believer in the "if you pay for something it should work and not be defective". Also when I talked to Verizon the tier two tech said it couldn't activate/communicate with the device at the the switch. He suggested a new sim or phone. He also said with the worry free guarantee I could switch out the phone for another. I would have to pay the difference if it cost more. I'm now wondering if since I got this phone for free would I have to 299.99 for a phone, or since it costs 299.99 at Verizon could I switch it out for a phone that costs 299.99?

I'm pretty sure it only means the difference in MSRPs between the two devices. Had the same situation a few years ago with Sprint when 3 Instincts went bad. Upgraded to a Touch Pro and only had to pay $100, even though I got the Instinct for only $50 on special.

I have AT&T. Been using the GNEX for months (before it was available on Google Play) and it shows ~1 bar/0 bars in my basement. I recently got a new GSM RAZR MAXX and in the same basement, I get 4/5 bars and never drop a call ever.
That says something to me. Quite simply Samsung radios aren't nearly as good as Motorola's radios.
I'm actually selling my GNEX and keeping the RAZR.

Yeah its a Verizon nexus. Man I really like this phone the screen is amazing, I get OK battery life, and the 5mp camera is really good in low light. I wish I could get the reception of the razr maxx as I'm hearing it is greatly superior. Plus with the razr HD coming out it makes me second guess. If I keep switching sim cards and phones until the razr HD comes out what would my chances be in getting that one as a trade in?

Slim-to-none in my experience. I think it's always been a tradeoff between Motorola and Samsung. I love Samsungs design and screens and ease of rooting/unlocking compared to HTC and Moto. For me, the carrier (Verizon) and their excellent network in my area more than makes up for the lack of the GNex's signal-pulling ability.

I get lousy reception on my gsm galaxy nexus on Bell too. This is my second nexus and it's definitely no better than the first. They keep making phones thinner and thinner and at some point radios, batteries, internal storage have to suffer. I like the phone but I can't wait until my contract is up and I can check out the new Nexus'.

No time without signal that high is killing his battery more than the screen. Cell phones want to remain in contact with the tower at all times, the poor signal the phone tries that much harder to stay on the tower.

If you're using 4G, remember that 4G on ICS and higher (I believe it's all ICS/JB devices) reports RSRP signal status, rather than RSSI. RSRP shows a much lower number for a similar signal level. Read this thread for more information.
I think I pinpointed it to the fact that when I'm connected to wifi I'm not connected to the mobile network. Does this make sense? when I'm not connected it is reading it as time without signal.

In the sprint Coverage map it shows that my area has 4G LTE (Zip Code is 78223 in case you want to check)

And with that attitude I don't think you'll get any.
Its normal for it to do that. It detects 3G being stronger and switches. You have to put it in LTE only mode. Its a dialer code. Or you can you a JB ROM that has that option like cm10 or CNA.

I guess all I can say is just because a coverage map says you have service doesn't mean you will. There are a lot of places that I've seen have coverage according to the map (back when I had Sprint and now T-Mobile) that just don't fulfill that promise. There are so many factors that come into play in the real world when getting a signal that just can't be represented by a coverage map.
Not to mention that Sprint's LTE network is extremely new and hardly rolled out to full strength.

Let us know if it doesnt work. It happens. If youre getting it a lot. Thats not usual. Or if it happens in your house fron 4g down to edge. It could be an issue with your tower. Or location. Maybe the tower is overloaded and they kick you to another?

I'm forced to use HSPDA due to the LTE network being overloaded here in SoCal.
Funny thing is, with LTE on, I avg about 3down/10up....with HSPDA, I get roughly 6down/1up. Quite frankly, I care more about download than upload anyway so it's actually better for me
OK so here's the thing, I've noticed that when in at college (or school for some) my gnex is on standby most of the day with mobile data turned on even though its 2G area, now I manage to make it home with at least 80% and usually end up recharging it however the peculiar thing is that with WiFi on it drains about 1% per minute at least. Seriously its truly ridiculous, anybody else had this problem or have any ideas on what to do?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Possibly a lot of traffic on your network? Lots of broadcasting happening causing wake locks. All I can think of.
Also what's your signal strength like? Both cellular and wifi.
Cellular wise its always full bars wherever I go and I turn off mobile data when I get home, WiFi wise I'm always on 2 bars in a 60mb connection.
Traffic isn't that high maybe one other person on the laptop...
