[Q] many apps not compatible anymore - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

So I noticed loads of apps which were compatible aren't anymore. is it because I rooted my device? I changed the build.prob so I could change to tablet mode so the 2 status bars change to one small one in landscape mode (what were Google thinking, its small enough already without taking up a 3rd of the screen with status bars)
Anyway games like amazing alex, air attack HD which I have downloaded the free versions now say incompatible and on the 25 billion app sale only 4 apps show up for download.
Any ideas on what I might have done?

Its because you changed your build.prop.
Change it back to default, clear market data and you should be able to download stuff again.
If you want tablet mode, but still want full compatibility, i recommend paranoid android rom. You can change to tablet mode, without breaking the market.

Thanks for your reply. I just tried this and it didn't work. I made a backup of my build.prop before changing it and when i used that one everything look pretty weird. I then found someones elses who posted it on here and tried that and it look like it did when new but after clearing the play store data the apps still dont show up.
Is there something else I need to delete maybe?
Also I don't really want tablet mode I just don't want 2 notification bars in landscape mode as it takes up so much of the screen landscape browsing becomes horrible. Do you know of a way around this?
Thanks again (wil post my build.prop files soon so maybe you can see an abvious mistake in it)
EDIT don't know what I did different but it works now. used someone elses build.prop, cleared playstore data and services (prob not needed) restarted and this time it's ok. Thanks again
Can you link me to this paranoid rom, is it this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885935
I would prefer a way to remove the top status bar without installing a new rom as I've had backed up apps not work properly (save games etc)

The paranoid rom is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800268
PARANOIDANDROID 2.16 | Only Rom on Android capable of Hybrid mode | Click and see
Tou dont have to have tablet mode for everything. You can set workspace to tablet mode so status bar and nav bar are merged together, but keep all apps at normal phablet/phone mode.
You can also change the size of the nav/status bar to make more room

That looks great, thank you

Change pixel density

Just now I applied a trick to have more info on my screen by changing the dpi setting. To to so in /system/build.prop modify the following line:
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
I changed it to 200. After modifying the settings in Launcher Pro I now have 6 rows and 5 columns in my homescreens which still have enough space in between.
You need root access to change system files. The file manager also needs to have root access. I used Super Manager for this.
I got this hack from doid-life. They also give an alternative way using adb.
You can also alter the build.prop by installing the PropEditor-0.3.apk from the following link;
http://code.google.com/p/net-widgetron-propeditor/downloads/detail?name=PropEditor-0.3.apk
Thanks, that made it a lot easier!
Now I also changed these lines:
Code:
ro.wifi.channels=14
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=90
This way all 14 wifi channels are available (also in 3G mobile hotspot) and the phone scans every 90 seconds for new wifi networks instead of the default 45 seconds. As I always have wifi on that saves some battery.
Ok this is weird. I just discovered that anything else than 240 dpi renders the dialer unusable. Sometimes it opens to only close again a split second later. Pitty because I really like the lower dpi setting. Back at 240 dpi it feels like a phone for the vision impaired.
Can i ask how exactly are the changes brought to dpi adjust?

Can someone please post a screenshot? Because I think this will make everything smaller so it's very hard to read anything.
LCDDensity for Root makes the same, you can find it on the market, free of charge.

Cool thanks for this.
I started changing screen density with my HD2 when they only had android from sd card. Basically lower number means "higher definition" and you can fit more things on the screen.
so waht does having 14 channels for WIFI do?
When I change the pixel density, I get FC when opening „phone„. I am using Pay's ROM.

It allows people to connect to broadcasts on all possible WiFi channels around the world.
So North Americans who might be originally limited to 1-11 (is the NA device locked to this though?) won't miss out on the odd coffee shop hotspot overseas that broadcasts on 13.

Try to download spare parts from the market (if its not in that rom already) and uncheck compatibility mode and restart your phone. might work.

[APP] SwitchMe - share your device [ROOT PROFILE MANAGER]

Hi guys, could someone please have a look at our SwitchMe app and see if it works on the Nexus 7 - we dont have one of these at the office and are unlikely to get one any time soon
Basically, SM allows many people to use one device. But it has a lot of other uses. PR is after the break!
Thanks in advance!
**************************************************************************************
SwitchMe - share your device!
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple user spaces just as you would on a desktop computer, with each profile having its own separate system settings, apps and data.
Some of the benefits of this technology:
Privacy
Securely share one device among many users, protect your accounts with passwords and log out automatically.
Kids
Create a profile for the kids, with only the apps and access you feel comfortable with.
Gaming
Overclock your profile for maximum performance in intensive games
Speed
Imagine a buttery smooth profile, with no kids games, messengers or bloatware to slow things down.
Testing
Create a sandbox profile to easily test applications and themes - no more nandroid nightmares!
Battery
Switch to a profile which only contains the essentials to save power through brute force.
Critical usage warning:
Incorrect use of this application can potentially harm your device. Before proceeding with use we strongly recommend that you perform a full nandroid backup through the device recovery.
READ THE HELP FILE CAREFULLY TO AVOID ISSUES
Without the Key, this application allows a maximum of 2 profiles and no security features.
Only the standard Android implementation of Apps2SD is currently supported. Use all others at your own risk.
Most devices should be compatible as long as they have enough free internal memory to create secondary profiles. The application will warn users if available memory is low.
Stay tuned for new features, and please rate the application by pressing the star button on the main screen - good ratings help us improve and expand functionality!
Market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.switchme
The free version only allows the creation of two profiles and has no security features.

I just installed it and went through creating different accounts, setting admin, switching users. I don't have time to test out everything, but it seems to work fine for me.
Working fine for me, been using it for a few weeks now.
I only use the basic settings. If you need anything testing, give me a shout.

Been looking at this app for quite some time but never actually tested it out... now I have a nexus 7 it might be a time to change that.
Firstly what I would want is to set a second profile for my girlfriend, hiding all root apps and giving her a kindle profile etc, the basic stuff. I take it that is what this app is designed to do?
secondly, how does uninstalling this app work?

It all seems to work perfectly for me. Great app. SwitchMe allows me to lend my N7 to family members whilst keeping my profile intact and hidden.
My only suggestion at the moment is to allow a different wallpaper choice for the switch screen. I could then set a background with graphic instructions/welcome messages on it.

1 - yes
2 - uninstalling the app will not remove the profiles. You must manually remove them, either through the app or by deleting its data. The app will warn you that you will lose access to all inactive profiles when deleting them (restricting you to the profile youre in at the moment).

Hello, I'm very interested in this app.
I want to be able to have my own profile and one for my children to play educational games.
I would like to be able to hide applications on that particular profile even if the data is not shared across profiles on the same app.
I would also be concern about the storage. Would they be able to view the files on my sdcard from other profiles? Is there a way to prevent that or allocated some storage space for different accounts?
Also another concern that I have is with Rom updates or even switching roms. In the case I want to just update the rom and at worst I have to do a cache/dalvik cache wipe, would that affect the profiles in any way?
Edit: I just tested and I can view everything on the storage area of the device and further. Also the gallery shows all the photos that stored on the device.
As I said above, the maintenance is up to you. Regarding different roms - you can only use one base from - if you want to use a new one, you will need to remove the app and delete your profiles.
Anything to report?
Hi guys. Heres an update with some critical fixes:
1.5.3.13
Added compatibility for Galaxy Note
Fixed switch screen issue on OTA updates and wipes
Reworked wipe profile behavior
I created a new profile and named it "default". Then I chose to switch to it and my player rebooted. After rebooting though it comes up with a login screen but whenever I put in my name "default" and try to log in it does nothing. I'm completely locked out. Also I did not set any password. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I suggest you use a the other switch screen theme if you want to switch and unlock faster.
I can't get into the device to change the settings because of the login screen.
I think I just answered you. The login is case sensitive. Or do you have some other problem?
I have already tested on the n7, it works fine...
Hello,
First off, I want to say thank you for creating this app. It has been working great for my family to share our N7.
I'm familiar with linux, but I am not familiar with Android. So I have a couple questions.
1. I installed an app(game) in the wrong user's profile. My son made alot of progress in it and I don't want to lose it. Is there a way to copy an app and all of its data from one profile to another?
2. If I download a new app in one profile is there a way to copy it to multiple profiles without having to redownload it again. Could this be done through ADB?
3. If I wanted to wipe the tablet and start over will doing a backup with TiBu copy all the data for every user or do I need to do a separate backup for each user?
Thanks for your help,
Chris
Been using it ever since I got my Nexus 7, works great for my wife and I.
I haven't tried the experimental fast-switch though, maybe I should.
My only recommendation is to set the priority on the notification to one of the new JellyBean ones, the lowest. That way it will stay in the notification tray, but won't show the icon on the top bar. That's something Lux and Battery Widget Reborn do really well. It still keeps the apps running, just doesn't crowd the bar with icons.

1 - titanium backup
2 - yes sure why not go for it
3 - no, unless you wipe the profiles through the app or manually delete them they will remain intact on the sd card

Fast switch will only affect things like multiple languages, multiple lcd densities and and other framework related stuff. Just try it, it wont make your device explode.
Regarding the notification. It is not there to keep the app in memory, its there for logging out. App doesnt need to be in memory, it will work just fine with no notification at all.

[Q] BlinkFeed

I am just curious about one thing.
I have notice even though you use a custom ROM or a stock rooted with S-OFF it does not matter which.
You can NOT turn off BlinkFeed all you can do is hide it from most every app that tries to turn it off and keep it off.
I have tried many apps that say that its turned off but when I use this little SYS Info Pro app I got this App from my TV box and it works great on this phone and has many cool features and cleaners in it as well as ending tasks,Clearing history and a few other options.
It shows that its still running in the background and taking up memory as well and it is not able to be ended or shut down .
Why you ask because i do NOT ever use it so I would like it completely gone. I would really like to remove everything I could from my phone that I would never have any use for.
There are many good ROM's out there I use the BadBoyz ROM and it works great but in the end the Apps that are there that I do not want are still there .and yes this ROM I use does give you APP OPPS choice but it also Fail;s at one point or another that would allow one to completely remove the APPS one does not want .
Has anyone of these good Developers for THIS phone ever gotten a request to actually build a ROM from scratch that would allow people to NOT have APPS in there phones they do NOT want. Also FULL control over what will fire up during the BOOT cycle and running in the background.
Thanks for any answers.
Because Blinkfeed is the launcher. You can't remove it as you need the launcher to run the whole system.
Maybe using a different launcher, then you can really delete it but then other Sense stuff may not work correctly.

Sideload and Remove apps...

I there is a lot of information about all the cool things we can do with our knew watches, but I thought I would link to a solution to a problem which has vexed me since purchasing my watch.
Android installs all wear capable apps to your watch without your control.
Well, now you have control.
Take a look at this doc.
Take a look at this doc.
Now, the document is a bit old, as you do not even need your phone, but it will give you the commands you need. You can plug your watch directly into your computer and manage your apps through adb (and possibly total commander, but I am not certain about that one). I tested this to remove apps I want on my phone but not my watch (Goodbye Lowe's and Amazon). You do not even need root to do this with regular apps, and as the author points out, using this method you can even sideload full Android Apps.
To interact with the device specifically, you change the code a little. For instance, instead of removing an app by...
Code:
adb -e shell pm uninstall -k com.glTron
You use
Code:
adb shell pm uninstall com.glTron
Be warned, if you uninstall a system app, or a dependency, things will be bad. However, if you stick to apps you know are user apps, this is relatively safe (the big system apps do need root permission to disable or uninstall).
Credit goes to Copyright:*corbin - Hacking Android Wear*and*EpicLPer. Great work!
I found the thread over in the wear development forum. There, they are compiling a list of full Android apps which work on wear.
Find that here.
Good luck.
Just got the watch and I've been playing with it the past few days. Did actually ruin some things trying to sideload system all's but restored it all just fine. Setting the DPI to 200 works really well with a lot of regular Android apps (adb shell wm density 200) without any negative effects to the UI or stock Android Wear apps (in fact they don't seem to be affected by the DPI change at all). Stock DPI is 280.
A lot of apps that don't depend on needing a status bar work really well. There's a thread on here on how to sideload and set the stock Google Keyboard as your default keyboard (which works really really well, honestly no issues typing with it). Can use things like terminal, Chrome and ES File Explorer from the watch itself with no issues at all. I'm going to try more apps later and possibly play with the DPI some more.
Apparently there's a way to get xposed working too, haven't tried it yet though. There's also a wayr to apprently get basic gapps and the Play Store working but I can't figure it out. Also can't figure out how to install apks directly from the watch itself. ES File Explorer and terminal aren't letting me install apps. WiFi works fine in all apps if you put the watch in Airplane mode or if you disconnect your phone from the watch. Hopefully we get data and networking over Bluetooth at some point, it'd be awesome.
Anybody try any emulators? I'm interested in trying something like epsxe to maybe play RPGs or something simple that doesn't require too many buttons to play.

How did you sideload and retain wifi? I know that I need to put it in /system/priv-app/ but I have no idea how to push an apk there, and I have no idea where the apk is installed to for me to be able to find and then push over
Unless you are rooted, you do not have permission to write to /system. If you are trying to put regular apps in /system/priv-app/ then I would recommend against rooting. An exception may be (and DarkRazorZ) can confirm, but the keyboard may need to be in system.
Anyway, you cannot merely drop an app in the right place (usually/data/app/) you have to install it. To do so, use this code.
Code:
Adb shell pm install ***.apk
To install the play store, you do need root access and to put it in system/priv-app, but that is one of many hoops. I suggest you check that thread if that is what you intend to do.
I'm not sure how the whole networking with priv-app works, I tried playing around with it but didn't get very far. For Chrome, if I want to use it over WiFi, I have to put the watch in to Airplane mode and reconnect to WiFi. It's pretty quick and easy to do and forced WiFi on for every app. I don't know of any other way.

Thanks for the hint on DPI - your are right, it helps side loaded apps, but i noticed that it also makes better use of the google now cards. The text is slightly smaller, and you can get more info (like a text) visible at one time, but still not to small. Regardless of sideloading, i am really enjoying the change to 200DPi (though, it really helps for apps like alpine quest and such which now show the whole thing)

Samsung Galaxy S20+ - Theme Problem

Good evening. After buying a couple of themes on the Galaxy store and applying them, my themes always seem to go back to the 'default' ones all the time. I cant figure out how to use any of the bought themes as 'default' even though in the software its is selected as default. Thanks
Try clearing system cache on the boot menu.
Cache on themes; you may need to clear the data if this doesn't work but you'll lose all the downloads. Try not to do this.
Maybe clear caches on other related Samsung apps.
Make sure it's not a 3rd party app causing this.
Does it run ok in safe mode?
Tks for the quick reply. I'm fairly new on the Galaxy phones so ill need to see how to clear the system cache. Same goes for safe mode. Not sure how to get there ..
What OS are you running?
Android Version 11 - Default ROM
Just google how to pull up the boot menu* and safe mode. It similar on all Samsung models but can vary slightly.
You need to push the button(s) in the right sequence and at the right time.
Try the less time consuming fixes first.
Play with it. The more you play with it the more you learn. Androids are fun to play and unlike MS Regedit it's pretty hard to screw up a stock Android**.
*make sure you hit "clear system cache" option and not hard reset one which is normally below it!
**get a fast 500gb sd card (about $75) to use as a data drive; keep all your critical files here. Use it for music and vids storage as well. Regularly backup the DCIM folder here too.
Best not to store Downloads here until they are known to be free of malware this includes downloaded jpegs! I had a malware jpeg recently.
Use ApkExport to make copies of all your apps and updates to store here.
Keep everything you need to do a full reload and data restore here. Then back this up to a PC as well. Now a reloading will be a snap will with no PC and minimum internet connection needed... and no data loss.
Forced reloads are rare but can happen, be ready... especially if system is not behaving in a stable manner (like it is now).
I also have a theme problem. I have a s20 ultra 5g, after purchasing a number of themes from the store, they only theme the main screen. Not the telephone app nor the message app. Does anyone know why or can provide a solution. I am running android 11 but hand the same results running 10. Thanks in advance!
I guess themes are not ready for oneui 3.0
Why do you pay for samasung themes. They only theme samsung apps and leave out other apps.
Try to theme with Substartum and Synergy.
Better experience of themeing.

To fix most teeming problems, take your phone off of dark mode and it will theme the phone app along with your contact app and your messages app. You can do this in your developers app and in your settings app. You shouldn't have to set a theme as default, it should do that automatically.
