[Q] Does Tapatalk burn battery - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Basically what the title says?
I've burned 10 percent every 30 minutes when using tapatalk straight? Does it burn more battery than a web Os or another mobile site?
Thanks in advance

Its a pretty light application. The battery drain comes from your screen being on and phone actively pulling data.

So would you say that mobile web kills more battery than tapatalk?

Maybe slightly because its doing full page loads and tapatalk is just loading some background data to the same view. Its gonna probably be about the same though. Like I said, its not the app you're using, it's the fact that the screen on and its using data that drains the most battery.

tapatalk is a battery saver app. when i used browser, the baterry was dropping very fast. tapatalk use less energy than browser

If you're using any app that uses the radio and you have a weak signal, your battery will drain fast. Try to find a sweet spot where reception is good and your battery will last longer. And lowering screen brightness helps, as mentioned.

Tapatalk was the reason for drain for me about a week ago.
I had my phone on charge overnight. Pulled it out and went to work and about 30 minutes later it was at 94% and I had done nothing. Turned out Tapatalk drained my battery for whatever reason. It has only done that once though so I don't know what happened. Has not done it again since. Usually Tapatalk takes like 2% of my battery for my use.

You checked "Yes this is a question"
That means it goes in Q&A

Tapatalk is a battery drainer in my case, too (SGS2). What's more problematic, once you've launch Tapatalk and use it to visit a forum, only killing it with a task manager would stop it from consuming memory. For whatever reason, Tapatalk is constantly consuming CPU cycles, even when it's in background. The developers are aware of this issue, but so far no fix.

take off tapatalk notifications and enable the dark theme.

It would still keep running in background and continue consume battery unless I shoot its process.

Cyanogen Mod 7.2 RC3 Battery Drain

I know this has probably been answered somewhere before but I couldn't find a good answer. I have lost 10% battery in an hour and a half with no use other than stand by. Any tweaks within the Cyanogen settings I can make to help at all?

Did you add any kind of task killer on your phone to prevent things from running in the background all the time?
I have advanced task killer but its just an app. Its not running all the time.

And I let my battery drain all the way to 0 and charged fully from scratch with it off. It lost about 20 in an hour add opposed to 10 today.

You can set it to auto-kill. I'm actually kinda surprised you're having a lot of battery problems with RC3 though, you may just need to wait a few days for everything to stable out. When we get new ROMs we like to play with them a lot and drain the battery! I would also suggest using auto-brightness to prevent excessive screen power usage.

That's not normal for idle at all. Is the battery old and just wearing out? if it's fairly fresh (< 1 year) then it should be fine. Try betterbattery stats to see if the phone is keeping wakelocks and also CPU spy will let you know if your phone is reaching the deep sleep state.
I have the brightness not on auto because it was picking up the light right, but it's turned down pretty low. I'm about to post the results of the battery info, and those 2 apps... They're in the below zip folder...
I unplugged my phone about a half hour ago and have been using it a decent amount. Went from 100 to 80 in that time.

Android OS, stay awake battery drain issue

I've been having a problem with my phone staying awake for 6 or 7 hours at a time and draining my battery. And it seems like I'm the only one having this problem. I just want to know if anyone has been experiencing the same thing.

Do a search on the play store for wakelock apps. This should show you what is keeping your phone from deep sleep. More than likely it's something like social media that wants to be on ALL the time.

It appears to be because of kik and the sip integration. Try uninstalling kik to see if that makes a difference.

i emailed to kik's support, i can't really uninstall it as i use it on daily basis and sip integration is part of android os, so that can't be uninstalled either (but can be disabled) i'm kind of surprised it was trying to connect to sip as I thought this only works when phone is on wifi and not on mobile network...
Finally Found Battery Drain Fix
Note 2 (i317 unlocked using T-Mobile)
IOAP ROM v3.59
Latest AGNI Kernel (2.7?)
Philz Touch CWM
I switch ROMs between the IOAP and Ditto Note 3 (also w/AGNI) as my dailies. I get great battery life w/Ditto Note 3 ROM. However, on IOAP I was getting about 6-7 hours and draining fast overnight. I checked everything and GSam showed "Android OS" as the main culprit. I changed a setting to Location>Mode>Device Only. It was on "High Accuracy". Once I changed this, battery life was back to the same levels as DN3 ROM.

anyone using juice defender ultimate here?

im getting error on the activity log when i start up this app, so im not sure if it works or not
ROM is not compatible with AOS(helper) band control is unvail. get cyanogenMod blah blah
Yeh it does that on AOKP, pa and cm10.1 so I have no answers lol

all they really do is shut your data off when the screen is off, which will save you some battery. but then you wont get any notifications from apps that use data i.e. email, Facebook, etc. or at least that's how it was last time i tried those apps like a year ago, maybe they've changed it.

The apps will sync, or should sync, depending on the interval you set the phone to sync. I have mine set every 15 minutes, it saves me around 10-15% battery life a day.
Depend on your settings I think, mine worked exceeding my expectations. I had the dreaded hot phone and literally 5 hours battery life. My last hope is to install a custom ROM and kernel and hope for the best, but I'm trying to stay stock as possible if I can help it. I have my fair share tinkering with custom ROMs with GNex and needless to say I'm done customizing (it's endless once you start!).
So I installed JDU just for the heck of it, lo and behold it actually works. I now get 12hrs with 15% left after a day worth of usage, browsing, lots of yelp, maps and navigation (travelling at the moment), pandora, fb, whatsapp, gosms, GNow and camera. Please note that I'm using the N4 for less than a week and still conditioning the battery, I use JDU for a full day today for the first time.
I realized that using JDU is only a temporary 'fix' until Google patch the battery issue. I hope to get 14-16hrs battery life without JDU on stock and rooted ROM. One can only hope eh..

Can't get rid of wakelocks

Battery life was great but all of a sudden now I'm getting horrible battery life, now lasting only 4-5 hours. Based on BetteryBatteryStats, it seems i have a wakelock issue and phone never enters Deep Sleep. I've searched the internet for solutions and have tried several things
- uninstall Google Chrome
- disable autoscroll
- hard reset
- reformat SD card
- get rid of SD card
Im still having poor battery life and even when I turn off WiFi, mobile data, gps etc, phone still never enters Deep Sleep.
Here are some screen shots. Please help!!!
See below
Look at your data usage, good chance that's the originator of the wake lock. I had picasa do that on aosp and tw. It doesn't usually directly show up. But the data usage is how I found it. On tw smdexe can also cause a wake lock with no direct flag

If your phone has low or no signal a lot, it'll eat through you're battery.
In your first screen shot... all that red under mobile network signal means NO signal. That's a lot of red.

GPS is on. This would be normal. Your phone constantly polls your location unless you turn it off. Having GPS on only worsens that effect but you get better location pings.

I think it's your signal bud. I didn't see anything out of the norm for wakelocks with exception of suspend backoff but that could be anything. I see that your phone has no signal for 99% of your wake time. Since you're saying both your wife's phone and yours are the same I would charge both up, put yours in airplane mode but keep the wifi on and test em. That's the only thing off that I noticed. A few guys have been working hard for battery life on another thread here. I'll link it to ya if you want. That's what I would do anyway, just to rule it out. Your mmc detects are high too and I haven't been able to verify this but I think that has to do with accessing the external SD card.

Google Services is draining my battery. Please help.

Hi guys, sorry for another battery thread but I'm sure I am not alone with this.
I had disabled location services in config (totally disabled) and I was getting good battery life I think (always more than 3 h screen time ) but I noticed that some tasker profiles based on location weren't working (obvious). So today I enabled Location but only by WiFi and network (didn't check gps) and after a while I checked battery status and got this. If that is true that drain is really big ! More than battery? It doesn't make sense to me.
What do you think?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It's a relative statistic. It didn't use 37% of battery it used 37% of the battery used.
Thanks. But don't you think its high anyway?

You used 50% of your battery in almost 8 hours and you think that's high? Check your screen on statistic. Most people only get 3-4 hours of screen on for the entire life of their battery.
Perhaps unchecked currents under your Google account, that was causing battery drain for a lot of. Nexus 7 peoples

Thanks... But I checked and currents is not even associated to my Google account... But it's active... Good guess... Should I disable it?

Regardless of whether your screen was on 4 minutes or 4 hours, it should not be that high.. I don't know how to fix it though, because this happens to me on multiple roms.. My only solution is turning Google now off, but it sucks cause I used to use it a lot

Yes, looks like the same happens here. And it's very strange that other people don't seem to have that problem, I really not understand.
Today I'm still testing and it's the same, Google Services uses more battery than screen, anyone who knows about electricity knows that if you are using the phone it's almost impossible.
And what is more crazy is that I'm not using GPS, it's always turned off. Locatization is only done by network and wifi.
It's obvious a bug and I hope that they fix it. I prefer not using Google Now than wasting almost 1 hour of screen time.

No you wouldn't have. At most you could potentially have 18% more battery. And that's only if the battery usage statistic is 100% accurate which is never is.
I have an HTC EVO 4g LTE and I have the same problem. I can't find a solution for it and it does it even if I turn off all location, google now, google sync. I think it has something to do with google play, but I don't know for sure.
Any ideas on how to fix it? It's not very common and I don't think it is caused by any one thing. It only started after the JB update btw.

I've discovered that Google services turns on even if you are in airplane mode and you have the wifi on but not connected to a network. I did a factory reset yesterday and nothing. I might have to unroot and take it in if I can't find an answer.

I kept enabled Google Now and Location service and these were the results... My battery life is good even with this drain... Stock 4.2.1 and Franco Kernel...
If I had disabled Location and Google Now I would have had (what location services drained) 30% more! More than 3:30 h of screen time.
So sorry Google ... With this drain I won't keep them enabled...
Its a shame because I used network location to turn on and off WiFi automatically when I was entering and leaving home. Will have to do it manually..

I had this issue with my S4. I found it was the new update of Google play service that caused this issue. The battery usage of google services came back to normal after I delete the update. However, the new hangouts requires the latest google play service.
