Android OS, stay awake battery drain issue - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've been having a problem with my phone staying awake for 6 or 7 hours at a time and draining my battery. And it seems like I'm the only one having this problem. I just want to know if anyone has been experiencing the same thing.

Do a search on the play store for wakelock apps. This should show you what is keeping your phone from deep sleep. More than likely it's something like social media that wants to be on ALL the time.

It appears to be because of kik and the sip integration. Try uninstalling kik to see if that makes a difference.

i emailed to kik's support, i can't really uninstall it as i use it on daily basis and sip integration is part of android os, so that can't be uninstalled either (but can be disabled) i'm kind of surprised it was trying to connect to sip as I thought this only works when phone is on wifi and not on mobile network...

Finally Found Battery Drain Fix
Note 2 (i317 unlocked using T-Mobile)
IOAP ROM v3.59
Latest AGNI Kernel (2.7?)
Philz Touch CWM
I switch ROMs between the IOAP and Ditto Note 3 (also w/AGNI) as my dailies. I get great battery life w/Ditto Note 3 ROM. However, on IOAP I was getting about 6-7 hours and draining fast overnight. I checked everything and GSam showed "Android OS" as the main culprit. I changed a setting to Location>Mode>Device Only. It was on "High Accuracy". Once I changed this, battery life was back to the same levels as DN3 ROM.

Deep sleep issue?

I've had this phone for 3 weeks now from a vibrant, and so far the battery hasn't balanced itself out. I get maybe a full days use out of it. From what I've read that's pretty good for this phone, but I'd like to be able to get consistent use.
I got a little more curious and decided to install cpu spy and discovered the phone isn't deep sleeping. So my question is, is there an app I should look out for that could possibly be running in the background? I've un installed all bloat that came with the phone, turned off sync, etc.
Any ideas? Or any roms that are touchwiz based that are battery friendly?

What apps do you have installed?
You're still on stock, right?
Heck your running processes to see if anything is running that shouldn't be. Also, there is an app called Watchdog (not the data meter) that can be setup to alert you when an all is using more processes than it should be using.
Sent from my SGH-T999
Yeah fully stock before the ota that was sent out.
I have the same apps I had on my vibrant with an extra game or two.
Mainly gapps, dead trigger, light flow, roku, Nike Running, etc.
I read somewhere that light flow was causing issues when the phone was first released, but so far I haven't seen major drain from that app alone. I turned off accessibility in the respect to light flow just to see if maybe that was the issue a d nothing.
Currently it sits right at 384mz. No idea why.

I forgot about that app. Just installed, I'll try this out and see what I can find.
This app should help you determine what exactly is keeping your device awake and preventing deep sleep.
Not sure what it is as this so the first day I have had this issue but it appears my phone has not gone into deep sleep at all today either. Weird.
Sent from my SGH-T999
Hm, just checked my phone, was interested that maybe the app wasn't reading it correctly.
I remember in the Vibrant, some kernels didn't allow apps to read the correct Deep Sleep stats.
Mine is working fine, 84% on deep sleep.
What ROM are you guys running?
I'm on the latest CM10 nightly and lean kernel. Oh well, time to diagnose.

So it seems like I'm not the only one having this issue, which is nice to know.
I ended up just switching to another rom and now it's going to sleep correctly which is nice because my battery is lasting.

all they really do is shut your data off when the screen is off, which will save you some battery. but then you wont get any notifications from apps that use data i.e. email, Facebook, etc. or at least that's how it was last time i tried those apps like a year ago, maybe they've changed it.

The apps will sync, or should sync, depending on the interval you set the phone to sync. I have mine set every 15 minutes, it saves me around 10-15% battery life a day.
Depend on your settings I think, mine worked exceeding my expectations. I had the dreaded hot phone and literally 5 hours battery life. My last hope is to install a custom ROM and kernel and hope for the best, but I'm trying to stay stock as possible if I can help it. I have my fair share tinkering with custom ROMs with GNex and needless to say I'm done customizing (it's endless once you start!).
So I installed JDU just for the heck of it, lo and behold it actually works. I now get 12hrs with 15% left after a day worth of usage, browsing, lots of yelp, maps and navigation (travelling at the moment), pandora, fb, whatsapp, gosms, GNow and camera. Please note that I'm using the N4 for less than a week and still conditioning the battery, I use JDU for a full day today for the first time.
I realized that using JDU is only a temporary 'fix' until Google patch the battery issue. I hope to get 14-16hrs battery life without JDU on stock and rooted ROM. One can only hope eh..

Junk apps are junk.

Google Services is draining my battery. Please help.

Hi guys, sorry for another battery thread but I'm sure I am not alone with this.
I had disabled location services in config (totally disabled) and I was getting good battery life I think (always more than 3 h screen time ) but I noticed that some tasker profiles based on location weren't working (obvious). So today I enabled Location but only by WiFi and network (didn't check gps) and after a while I checked battery status and got this. If that is true that drain is really big ! More than battery? It doesn't make sense to me.
What do you think?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It's a relative statistic. It didn't use 37% of battery it used 37% of the battery used.
Thanks. But don't you think its high anyway?

You used 50% of your battery in almost 8 hours and you think that's high? Check your screen on statistic. Most people only get 3-4 hours of screen on for the entire life of their battery.
Perhaps unchecked currents under your Google account, that was causing battery drain for a lot of. Nexus 7 peoples

Thanks... But I checked and currents is not even associated to my Google account... But it's active... Good guess... Should I disable it?

Regardless of whether your screen was on 4 minutes or 4 hours, it should not be that high.. I don't know how to fix it though, because this happens to me on multiple roms.. My only solution is turning Google now off, but it sucks cause I used to use it a lot

That usage is good, but what would happened if I had disable "Location Services"? I would had 37% more battery! Much better!

Yes, looks like the same happens here. And it's very strange that other people don't seem to have that problem, I really not understand.
Today I'm still testing and it's the same, Google Services uses more battery than screen, anyone who knows about electricity knows that if you are using the phone it's almost impossible.
And what is more crazy is that I'm not using GPS, it's always turned off. Locatization is only done by network and wifi.
It's obvious a bug and I hope that they fix it. I prefer not using Google Now than wasting almost 1 hour of screen time.

No you wouldn't have. At most you could potentially have 18% more battery. And that's only if the battery usage statistic is 100% accurate which is never is.
I have an HTC EVO 4g LTE and I have the same problem. I can't find a solution for it and it does it even if I turn off all location, google now, google sync. I think it has something to do with google play, but I don't know for sure.
Any ideas on how to fix it? It's not very common and I don't think it is caused by any one thing. It only started after the JB update btw.

I've discovered that Google services turns on even if you are in airplane mode and you have the wifi on but not connected to a network. I did a factory reset yesterday and nothing. I might have to unroot and take it in if I can't find an answer.

I kept enabled Google Now and Location service and these were the results... My battery life is good even with this drain... Stock 4.2.1 and Franco Kernel...
If I had disabled Location and Google Now I would have had (what location services drained) 30% more! More than 3:30 h of screen time.
So sorry Google ... With this drain I won't keep them enabled...
Its a shame because I used network location to turn on and off WiFi automatically when I was entering and leaving home. Will have to do it manually..

new phones. Sourcery with ak is stable and gets good batt life.
The day is about to finish and here are the final results... As predicted disabling Google now and location gave me 0:30 of screen time and more than 1 h idle.
Sad

I had this issue with my S4. I found it was the new update of Google play service that caused this issue. The battery usage of google services came back to normal after I delete the update. However, the new hangouts requires the latest google play service.

Looks like you got a wakelock, use better battery stats to see what's causing it. That almost solid blue bar in your 2nd screen shot shows way more awake time than what your screen on time is, awake almost 80% or so of your total uptime

Could Google now location services, such as time to work cards, be causing pipe battery life?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
All that maps stuff will kill your battery, especially if you're inside where gps can't lock fast. I use autostarts to force maps to stay off unless I open them. And yes cards in google now do hit battery pretty hard as well.

Yes indeed.
The Google location services is a big user as well, but to turn it off or prevent it's autostart would hinder Google now, at least I would think so.
Good point on the media server. The battery life was better before this update, and I'm sure Google was still hogging battery life. So media server seems to be the problem... Possible.
Could one possible freeze certain apps to eliminate the drain from the media server?

Mediaserver drains battery fiercely due to a bad image file or video file......it keeps trying to read the file. The only fix that I found was to backup your sd card reformat it then add a folder at a time to make sure it doesnt get stuck scanning.

I've found that it is only the network based locating that causes this particular wakelock madness. Turn off network based location and maps behaves fine... Shame really as Google Now is coded to be broken unless Google knows what network your connected to.

I doubt it's any of my files. It never was a problem on LJC. And even now the problem is random. Comes and goes on different boots. I'm thinking maybe Samsung accounts might have to do something with it. A few days ago I noticed it updated a Samsung push service app on its own. That's why I use autostarts to disable everything unless I open it manually. Then you don't need to turn off the location services they just don't activate til YOU tell them too. They fully function just like normal only they only function when the app is in the foreground

Doing what? Disabling network-based locating, or using autostarts?
Google Now to fully function requires knowledge of what wifi network or cellular network you're connected to to...Shame really, and downright creepy.

The problem is with the usb connector and not related to the phone software.
You need to take a close look at the usb connector. Take a a small pin or needle and try to push or bend the usb to the orginal position.
TAKE GOOD CARE and do it on your own risk!!!
Yet, it did work for me
I had this problem and I was on stock 4.2.2. It ended up being either my stock calendar widget or pic speed wallpaper. It went away once I uninstalled both these applications.

Well I don't know what was happening but my phone come back "aparently" to normally, I'll test all the day until my battery dies or almost it's at 10% of charge to see what happen. I didn't touch nothing just install Better Battery Stats, this is really, really rare. I'm using ParanoidAndroid 3+, anyway thanks to every who give me a hand here
