Hello people
Need a case for my shiney new S3!! I did have an S1 up to 2 days ago but it did not survive an encounter with a concrete car park! 2 months from the end of my contract!!! Anyways..
The forum has fried my brain with the number of different cases available / opinions / problems so I decided it might just be easier to ask! Sooooo.. what case do you have and would you recommend it? I want something that going to protect my phone (but not entomb it like an otterbox) and keep the phone looking smart, that means a BIG no no to all those crazy designs out there (Urban armor I'm talking to you). Just to make it a little more difficult I'm in the UK..!
Any help would be much appreciated!

Read all the reviews on Amazon as well. Besides the price, most people have never used or seen the case before so you're not dealing with Fanboys although I've become one since it's still the best all around case over my other 5 or 6 although I have a UAG on the way that may give it a run.....but even buying it used it was twice the price as the Acase when I purchased it.
I also just purchased an Urban Armor Gear (UAG) case for my phone. It looks like it gives good protection with a cool design instead of some of those cases that look like a bloated whale. http://www.urbanarmorgear.com/collections/samsung But I got mine through amazon. I'll post pics when it arrives.

He doesnt want a Urban. Says its a big "no no" which i agree with.
Edit: On the case search. Try out tmart.com I should be receiving my case from them soon. Its cheap and has free shipping. Not sure about UK though. Great selection.

HA! Yeah maybe I should have read his whole post. Good catch.
OP I was looking at Incipio's cases. The incipio silicrylic cases look pretty sleek and like they give better protection than just a rubber sleeve.

Im going to get the Acase as it looks nice, good protection like other cases and has a good price tag!! My partner is going to get an incipio silicrylic for hers as she likes the design more!
Any recommendations for screen protectors to go with these cases?

I recommend ballistic maxx sg. I Have that and UAG (I know you don't like the design). The UAG is better in my opinion. Also you should check out sector 7 I think it's called? It will be out for the s3 soon.

I Was very much in your position and got a spigen argos. Its a flip leather though so may not be to your taste but the phone seems well protected and the case itself is incredibly thin and light.

I know it's expensive, but I really like the new Zagg Invisible Shield High Definition screen protector. It just about dissapears on the phone, it's a lot smoother than most of the other non-glass screen protectors and it doesn't have as much orange peel as the others.
I am loving my Otterbox Defender. Beware though: it is very chunky. Mind you I like this - it makes the phone look and feel like a very expensive power tool; something you used on an exploration expedition!

Just giving everyone a heads up, I preordered my case mate tough a couple weeks ago from theaccessoryking.com and just got my shipping notice It's still marked as preorder on their website oddly enough with today (10/7) as the expected release date. I'll type up a short review once it's in my hands.

The mini review-
This case is awesome, a lot better quality than I was expecting to be honest. It adds some bulk of course but a very negligible amount, especially for how well it protects your phone. If anything it just makes the phone feel more substantial in the hand which is a good thing IMO. It is still very pocketable, I keep it in my left ass jeans pocket pretty much all day and it doesn't make me walk funny at all! The plastic shell has a great rubberized ("soft touch") feel to it which just adds to the quality of the case. Overall I am VERY happy with this thing, and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great case with more protection than the oh-so-popular TPU cases. I even like this thing better than the Seidio Active Limited that my EVO 4G rocked all the time, and I LOVED that case (even though I broke the tabs off 3 separate shells). In short- BUY IT and thank me later
Check out the pictures that were posted in this later thread if you wanna see it, theres no reason for me to post any. Thanks to mobeast for posting them.

Looking forward to it! I am curious how 'tough' it is. I am paranoid with just minimal protection on this beauty.
Thanks for sharing. (hopefully the rest of us who ordered case-mates will get our soon too).
Make sure to take lots of pictures.

How much weight/bulk does it add to the e4gt?

Thickness measured @ the volume rocker...
With TPU-cases.com case: ~0.480"
With Case Mate Tough case: ~0.580"
IMHO, the added protection the Tough case provides far outweighs the bulk that the case adds.
Man I'm terrible with remembering threads I post!

I ordered mine from amazon and I must say that I was disappointed with it. I ordered a black one. The innner gel case was pinkish red. When I put it on the phone, I couldn't get it to fit into the outer case. Anybody else run across these issues?

The holster that came with my Seidio Active case works perfectly with the Case-Mate Tough. In fact, that's my set up at the moment.
Got my Tough today...
Suffice it to say, the TPU is going into my desk drawer and will rarely see the light of day again
This case is as good as it gets out of the current selection of et4g cases
So, I bought the smoked colored TPU case because matte black was sold out. I like the case because it's small and doesn't add more bulk to an already huge phone.
My problem is that it's very slippery, I'd like something a bit more grippy but do not want the full rubber cases, I had a case mate on my old phone and I sometimes it was a pain to take out and put in my pocket, it would just come off of the phone..
The matte black TPU I heard was good, but will it be as slippery as the one I have now.
This seems to have decent reviews:

Thanks, but the jack info is a deal breaker. I use my phone every time I get in my car with the Aux input. It's my source of music, taking the case on and off every single time would be a big hassle.
If I don't get more replies I'll take my chances with the matte black TPU.

Otterbox Top Quality
I've owned three Commuter cases (for Samsung Captivate, Infuse, and Note) and you can't beat them for the protection.
The only issues I have had are how the clips are attached to the plate. Twice I've had them break on me, BUT, Otterbox has been very prompt at sending me a FREE replacement. I also have to say that each time I was leaning in such a way that I was putting pressure on the belt clip, so I can't entirely fault the clip. Since they replaced it (promptly), I have no negative feelings.
Although they are a bit pricey, you can definitely see why they do cost more. I would HIGHLY recommend them. They give your phone top-notch protection. :good:
I bought the case today and compared to the case mate tough this provides much more protection however it does the phone slippery due to the hardcover having minimal grip. The biggest gripe I have with this case is the power and volume rockers are really difficult to press and I have contacted otterbox about it and just awaiting reply now.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Anybody using the commuter in a car mount yet ? If so which one, and any chance of a few piccies ?
Also, does the thickness of the case interfere with the NFC at all ?

I didn't have an issue with the grip of the case but the buttons are a big problem. I did point it out in my review. The trident case is a lot better button wise.

great review, I have been searching for a gal s3 specific otterbox review and haven't found any... until now.
That is an issue re the lovely sleek lithe lines of the s3 being covered and ruined by protection, but as has been said, thats the trade off i guess.
I am having a really hard time deciding between a few cases. Bought the invisible skin full body protector (it's my goto scratch protection despite niggles with it) and that will sit beneath any case I buy. May have to take the rear skin off to fit but will cross that bridge...
Fancied a defender but the built in screen protector bothers me as I am worried about it fading and misting over time, where as the commuter does allow for the separate screen skin which then can be removed and replaced independently if required.
Would really like the defender but it is increasingly looking like the commuter will be the best solution :/
I just picked the Aegis off eBay for $26 shipped. Good case so far.

Never had to, usually at&t has plenty. They actually blamed it on Hurricane Sandy, said interrupted deliveries.
I got a cheap one for 7 off ebay & ordered the Samsung White Note 2 case from mobilecityonline.com for $19.99. I'm going to not go case crazy like I did on the SGS3.
i don't normally get a case since i usually hate most that ive had, but i actually love the samsung tpu case. it is super thin, good coverage, rubber sides, plastic back that resembles what the phone looks like underneath, and lip that goes over the screen. you can get it 50% off on samsungs website with the coupon code, so $15. totally worth it.

This may be a solution. Who is willing to try

Seriously, I might give it a go. As long as you can leave the flip cover folded over the back of the device for the times you want to be able to see the led notification then I should be fine. But I dont plan on getting a screen protector and for throwing it in my pockets or laptop bag the flip cover might do its job in protecting the big screen.
What cases do you guys use, and what case in the market do you think is the best?
I personally love thin form factors to not take away much from the phone itself. I currently use and love the poetic palette case which only sells for 5$. the other option I was looking at was the spigen ultra thin air case which goes for 25$.
Would the otterbox commuter be a good choice?

You actually wasted time saying this, contribute to the conversation or move on. To much flaming going on, now I remember why I can't stand xda anymore. To much ******* attitude instead of help. Does it physically hurt you that it's here instead of accessories, NO IT DOESN'T SO MOVE ON!!!!
It depends on your preference. Do you want a case that shows off the phone curves? How about a tough case for heavy protection. Or a case for light protection? Of maybe you want one that shows you notifications before you turn the phone on?
It can also depend on what type of person you are or your job. Do you work in construction? With children? At a desk?
Me personally, I work in a store with lots of people, and I have a 3-year-old nephew, plus I sometimes drop my phone. I don't care for "sexy" cases, I want tough cases, no matter how ugly.
But that's me. You might be different or want something completely the opposite.

He was just saying that it belongs in accessories, you're the one overreacting.
It does belong in accessories, that's why we have different sections.

I normally just use the TPU cases from eBay which work just fine. However, decided to invest a bit more on protection for the S4.
After a bit of searching I narrowed it down to the Neo Hybrid from Spigen and Atmosphere from Poetic. I think the slickness and price pushed me towards to Atmosphere more and that would be my recommendation.
Here's a link and a picture of the case.

Quick Tip: The price is around $9 on Amazon.
I have both the Spigen Slim Armor and the Neo Hybrid and like them both very much.

Does your Spigen Slim Armor cover the entire bezel? I got one when it first came out, and it bugged me that it never fully covered the entire bezel. I'm in the process of returning the Slim Armor and already placed an order for the Neo Hybrid.
another vote for otter box defender, I work outdoors in a lot of forrested areas and it does me a solid. I would also check out the platinum series case with the holster and stand. It does a good job as well its just a slimmer less protective case compared to the defender.

It protects the entire bezel, but I can see a hair line portion of the chrome most the way around. I think I have gotten used to it.
I just got my rearth ringke case today and really like it. It's very very thin and light. I don't think it'll protect well from a drop, but should protect the phone from everyday scratches.
I also got a tpu case and did not like it because the edges were raised too high..it made it difficult to type!
