o you guys think the Galaxy S2 is a worthy upgrade from the nexus s because I have the choice to get one right now and wanted to know you guys opinion?
Best phone I've ever owned, and I've had quite a few.

My buddy has a Nexus S and they're not even close. Go to the T-Mobile store and see for yourself. I always think of the Nexus S as being somewhere in between to Galaxy S and the Galaxy S2 (closer to the first Galaxy haha).
I say wait for the next flagship and not waste your upgrade unless you're itching for a new phone.
it's not an upgrade, the situation i'm in is either get a new phone now or wait 2 more years with the nexus s. Does that change things?

Honestly, I got the epic touch thinking it was going to be kinda cool but when I got it, I was amazed dude. Get it, I also am running cm7, which makes it wayyy smoother .

E4GT is a considerably better phone -
Check it out at the store first to compare the two, if it wont extend your current 2-year upgrade time. I got this from the G1, purposely passing on the Nexus One-S4G with the later being the only other phone I would of gotten. I have ZERO regrets! E4gt is a beast and the smoothest android phone ever!
Guys I want to buy a new android device !!

3 days ago, the Galaxy Nexus was the first and the only device to receive the latest version of android : Jelly Bean.
This version adds so much smoothness and improvements to ICS that some people are giving up on buying the S3 coming from the Nexus.
Assuming S2<S3, you just got a logical explaination to as why you should get the Galaxy Nexus ( GSM if you can ).
Not an other on, gotta get a post in before the mods come

Here are the strengths of both phones over each other,
S2 over nexus
- Better camera
- Better GPU performance which doesnt mean much in day to day usage but for sure matters in 3D gaming as you get higher FPS
- More compact
- SD card slot
- Better speaker
- Better accessory market
Nexus over S2
- Bigger and better screen
- Much better future software support
- Looks way better in my opinion
- LED notification
- Better audio quality from headphones
The fact that the nexus S is getting jelly bean is huge, just goes to show how freaking long the galaxy nexus is going to be supported. That alone to me is far bigger advantage than all the other advantages the S2 has.
I'll say the biggest con of the galaxy nexus is the really weak speaker and only 16GB memory for the GSM version.
The biggest con of S2 is the low resolution screen and poor future software support.
If you have to think about it just get the S2. To even second guess the nexus is an insult to us. Its an amazing phone.

I picked the Nexus over the S3 and One X, so I would definitely pick it over the S2.
After using stock android, Jelly Bean in particular, everything else is really awful to me. Touch wiz is so bad. The Touchwiz apps are not very nice looking compared to stock ics/JB. I would get the Nexus for sure. I even highly value camera Quality and I decided that having better software is more important than camera.
Today I bought galaxy nexus and sold my Galaxy S II... I love Galaxy nexus bcoz of wide screen, better UI and direct support from Google beating apple.. hehehe I love you nexus ... I lost interest in SII bcoz SII Sucks with no more support from jelly bean very soon... even updating 4.0.4 version might get long month.

Project butter in jelly bean got me so excited that I've decided to try to sell my 4s and get a gnexus Used to be on android but left cus of how smooth ios seemed to me. Hope I get a trade soon
i have used the s2 and in all honesty the nexus beats it hands down.. right now i am considering getting either a nexus or a s3...and the odds are in the favor of nexus lol

+1. Had an s2 for a few months. Sold it to buy a gnex. Don't regret it in the least.
There's no need to think such thing, SGS2 is not even close to GN. The screen resolution itself is hideous.

Hey people, I am currently an iPhone user and what I do on it is download themes, tweaks, apps. I got tired of using an iPhone and I thought that whatever I do on an iPhone, I can do it a lot better on an android. I was currently looking at other android phones but since there isn't one specific android phone like iPhone, I don't know which one will suit me. My eyes were on the Galaxy Nexus for a while and I have done research on it like reviews and how customization works. I know the Galaxy Nexus came out a year ago and by now new phones came out may have more improved features than the Galaxy Nexus, like the One S or GSIII or the One X. I don't know how custom roms work or kernels and what do they do so if you can explain about it that would be helpful. The sad thing about the Galaxy Nexus is that it only comes with a 16GB model, and I'm not sure if its going to be enough or not.
So my question is that at this time is it worth to get the Galaxy Nexus?
Yes. Unless you want an HTC One X or Samsung Galaxy S3, which are a lot more money.
From my sexy white, Nocturnaled HTC One X

16gb shouldn't be an issue, lots of cloud services (Google Play Music, Dropbox and Picasa) to take care of that. All are good devices, Galaxy Nexus is the best if you want the quickest updates to ROMs, but generally the wait for Galaxy S3 is only a month more, so compare the hardware, and buy the one that suits you most, since both these devices have lots of developers working on them
Awesome phone, just switched from S2 and its much better. Maybe because its a Google phone so the hardware and software compliment each other. Also the fact that it will get continued software support from Google makes it a smarter buy over many other phone.(Took forever for ICS to land on S2). And not to mention the subsidized price( 350$ now!google promoting android phones). You def wont regret it.
Thanks for your replies, this question also came into mind. Do you guys think I should wait because maybe Google is going to introduce another Nexus device sometime this Fall, probably the new device may be better than the Galaxy Nexus.

Yes I would wait. The fact that in about 5 - 6 months you will have the new Nexus lines out, I would wait. The Galaxy SIII is a sexy phone and based on rumors it will be getting Jellybean soon, but I prefer pure Google.
If you our desperate, get a Nexus S for cheap on ebay that you can use as a throwaway, backup, etc.. type phone but with all goodies of Jellybean.
Thanks for your reply, but when the new Nexus comes out, will the Galaxy Nexus still get the fast android updates like any other Google phone does and will the Galaxy Nexus go up to Android 5.0?

From what ive heard, Nexuses/nexii? Get updated till the hardware can no longer hold up
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Ok thats good, I don't think there will be that much hardware improvements for about 2 years so thats good. But is the Nexus One still getting the updates. And about the Nexus One and the Nexus S, since they are Google phones, do they still get the fast updates or do they have to wait 3 months after the update came out?

i think its totally worth it, only today i moved from iphone 4s to white galaxy nexus, i was totally impressed with jelly bean 4.1.1 , and i would strongly recommend to consider nexus as primary choice
So I was an iphone user myself until recently, I got an HTC One X and it is an amazing phone, the screen and speed are great, made me love android... however I found the battery life to be awful. When Jellybean came out I found myself wanting to try it and so replaced my One X with a Galaxy Nexus, and I think it has much more advantages. Firstly the battery seems to last longer, and you can buy a replacement spare. The Jelly Bean OS is perfect and all other features match the One X. The only thing that doesnt is the camera in true specs but I find its hard to discern any difference for day to day snaps.

Thank you all for replying, has anyone used a Sony Xperia S, just curious how different it works with HTC and Samsung.
Dont get it. A mate has it and is selling suffers from yellow splotches on the screen and a locked bootloader
Can anyone tell me how custom roms and kernels work and what not to do to mess up the phone. Also is there a way to restore a galaxy nexus back to factory state, as if you got the phone brand new.
You want to know how custom roms work together or you just want to know how they improve the experience?
To answer your second question, yes you can put it back to factory settings.

I've come to think that 16gb may not be enough for me, I had an iPhone 4 16gb and got so many games, movies, music, etc. that I was left with 4gb and my phone became slow. I don't have a data plan so I can listen to music on Google Play while im out. I was wondering if the GSM Galaxy Nexus makes a difference between the CDMA Galaxy Nexus. If it doesn't make a difference with hardware because I saw many people on different forums that have problems with CDMA Galaxy Nexus and I want to get it because it is available in a 32gb model and they are world phones so it has a sim card slot but I'm not sure if it would work with T-Mobile.
CDMA galaxy nexus will not work on T-Mobile. Also there isn't a difference in hard wise between CDMA and GSM but CDMA takes much longer to get updates while GSM is almost instantly.

Hi Guys,
First up I'm from India and have no way of getting my hands on the nexus 4 anytime soon ( with US stocks apparently refreshing on 20th , i doubt ill beat ppl to it ) so i was going to settle for the galaxy nexus instead. I'm getting it for around Rs 22K ( ~ 400 US$) .
The only reason i was going for this is because of the great number of devs for the phone and a good screen. ( Basically the only 2 things i'm looking for - good screen and custom roms). My other options are :
-The Xperia S/SL or ION which i'm also getting for 400$ ,
- Galaxy S 2
- Used galaxy S2 i1900 for 12k( ~ 210 $ about 1/12 years old)
The HTC One X is about Rs 30k( 550$) and the S3 which is quite high as well (600$)/
So is it worth getting the galaxy nexus now
I've had mine for about a year and have no desire to upgrade. The fact that the development community is so active with this device will prolong its life longer than the average phone.
I'm also from India looking to buy Gnex! And I heard that you can get it in Mumbai for 18 k very good deal!
Is absolutely still a superior phone and i highly recommend it still.

I agree with the others, the Gnex is a great phone still. The development community is its greatest asset. As long as I have the latest firmware I am content. The Galaxy S series has good development too.

If you get a good price. It got quite a outdated SoC, but that's alright if you don't care about gaming. Another positive thing is that it will get Ubuntu in the coming weeks, that's actually the only thing that keeps me from getting a new phone (N4/note2) right now.

No "S". Just Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus S is totally different and a lot of places mix up the names.
Just got my Galaxy Nexus (VZW) right after Christmas off eBay (mint condition, for $170). I kept my unlimited data plan, and couldn't be happier. I have never flashed/modded/tinkered with a phone more than the Nexus, and that's 1000% because of this forum and developer community. I love it!
Is it the fastest, most competent phone available today? No. But it's so much damn fun playing with!

Great device but I wouldn't pay $400 for it now. I got mine for about US$300 6 months back when a shop was running special deals. Wait a bit, prices might drop on those other devices, CES and all the new announcements will mean S3 etc might get cheaper soon.
Yes it's worth getting it. I had the galaxy note running cm10.1 and then I bought the galaxy nexus and I am just loving it.

Phone is outdated, better alternatives available. I wouldn't recommend it coz the price is quite high for what you get.
This is still a great phone to use although is 2013, the development community will continue for a time even Nexus 4 was out!
Recommend u grab a Galaxy Nexus XD
P.S. I still using one and do not got any desire to change it

Look, is very simple (for me) I bought the phone because: Is a samsung device, 1st to get upgrades, Decent speeds, good looking screen and resolution, unlocked. The only downside I see, and really see, is that the phone does not support external SDCARDS, for me thats a bummer since I dont have unlimited data, so streaming for me is not an option, I like having my stuff saved on a SDCARD. I had 20GB of pictures and music on my Galaxy skyrocket but now on my nexus I can't. For me that's the only mistake with this phone.
If I were you, try to get those 200.00 more an get the S3 (only if is the GT-i9300) if you don't care about always being up to date with the software. But I think your paying to much for the phones, I bought my nexus for 290.00 (e b a y) , and the galaxy S3 is arround 460.00. Those prices are for MINT condition phones. I can also find the S3 new for about 500.00.
Do not get the nexus s under any circumstances you won't get ota updates. I would recommend either the galaxy nexus or LG nexus 4.
Sent using xda premium.
I would suggest you wait till Jan end! I spoke to a few ppl who said that the Nexus 4 is going to launch in India and it's under 30k or so.. Wouldn't be surprised if it launches in mid Jan also at 27k maybe.
Galaxy Nexus is a good phone and is aging really well but the SOC just manges to keep up. The Nexus 4 development had just picked up pace and will get only better! I prefer to use a phone during its early development stages to its mature stages. That way it's more fun and you really get to know your phone
Yesterday I almost traded a guy for a galaxy s3, but I played with them side by side an honestly found the galaxy nexus snappier and apps worked better. There are faster phones out there in benchmark scores and gaming but for day to day use I still find the gnex the smoothest and most consistent experience. BTW the guy wasn't surprised I didn't trade because he uses his dads gnex and realised it just works better without all the bloat that the gs3 has. My phone also runs better then my wife's optimus 4x for everything but gaming. Only phone that will replace my gnex is a newer nexus device. Is it just me or did the camera become really good after 4.2?

Some good feedback here...
Glad to know the community is still strong for the Gnex since I just purchased one yesterday for $250.
Also, where is your source that says that American stock for the N4 will be refreshed on the 20th?
I personally got tired of waiting and that is the reason I got the Gnex.
GNEX is a good phone but its been in market for a year now, who knows wut would happen next year
when nexus 4 get good stock, many ppl may move to nexus 4 and leaving gnex less and less popular, its life maybe in question next year
but gnex still going healthy this year, imo, it depends on how long u want to use the phone for
I have an option to sell my phone after 1 year and want to buy note2 . The reasons are a better display to read web and 6 hours of battery life on note 2.
However I don't know if its size can be a problem and its resale value after 1 or 2 years. I know that I will miss software support too much that we have for nexus.
Has anyone from us, nexus users made this jump? Any comments please?
I've had the Note 2 and sold it. Really regret that. If I had an opportunity to grab one I'd do it quick. Hardware alone would make me switch. Quad core and 2gb ram? Yes please. Plus, as you stated the battery life is awesome. It is a big phone, but you quickly get used to it.
As far as development goes, on Sprint there was plenty. AOSP and touch wiz. If you're getting a good deal, I say go for it.

Thanks man. I am gettin it for 570 SIM free and selling my nexus for 250 USD.
It is too much but just don't know

250 for your Nexus is very good considering this day and time. Note 2 has one of the biggest Ram available paired with a dual core chip. There's a good deal of support on a software level. Hardware is good, very good.
