apps on SD card. Can I transfer them? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm looking at getting the gs3, there are a few apps that I added when I was in Florida, and cannot download them here. Can I put them on my SD card and transfer them to the new phone?

Follow these steps for a secure transfer. Phone must be rooted and have some sort of recovery.
1. download an APP from the market called app2zip
2. Open it, its pretty self explanatory, you can choose which apps you want to save into a flashable.zip
3. zip them they will save on ur SD card you can move it around via root browser or any browser
4. when you get your GS3, and if you do root it with a recovery, you can just open recovery and flash the .zip file, bam its back on your phone.
Yes i know this only works with rooted/recovery phone.
Goodluck
hit thanks if this helped!

If i have apps on SD card by apps2SD on the SGS4, can I switch to a new SD by just copying and pasting them over, or do I have to move it all back to the "device storage"?
Thanks

The zip that you download IS NOT flashable, so you would have to use a zip eztracting program to unzip it. When you unzip it, it has three folders in it (ringers, notifications, and alarms). Then move the files (all, or just the ones you want) in each of those folders into the folders with the same name your have listed on you sd card.
There are a few good free Zip programs on the net if you don't already have/use one. Most are free "trials", but you can still use them to do this!!

No... I have to put the APK installer file into internal memory... Not after installing.... Is b4 installing
In the basic sense of the question, it means just put the APK "NOT" within the sdcard or any folders under it. I think this only possible if you're rooted.
In any case, I wonder why there's such requirement. APK is just an installer and even in the sdcard level it should work or run. Then when you install, default is the app will be placed in the INTERNAL memory. That should be what you wanted.
Maybe tick the unknown sources option if its not already?

I suppose that's what i will do also even if doing so sounds strange. If still don't work probably its a bad apk. Try it on another device or look for another source.

test using titanium, so you can integrate the game to system, it can work maybe
For what purpose?
i have a *ahem" game called "Spectral Souls"....
but i can't install~
You can put it to system/app with Root Explorer if a install from sd card doesn't work.

Regain some storage space with "My files"

I'm running FreeSG3 and when looking through all the apps found "My files". I'm not really sure if its part of the ROM or not but I definitely did not down load it (if it is part of the ROM, thanks Clark44). Very useful and simple app. When opened it shows extSdCard and sdcard
With a few backups and lots of apps my internal storage was getting a little low. I used "My files" to move the backups to my extSdCard and have regained a good bit of internal storage back.

My files is just a simple file explorer.....you can also download more advanced ones off the market like Root Explorer or ES Explorer....and yes moving files like backups to the external SD card will give you more system space.
Absolutely! Anyone with even a little Android experience is probably familiar with the more full featured file managers ie Astro, File Manager, ES File Explorer, Root Explorer and so one. I bring "My files" up for it's shear ease in doing a simple task, moving something from internal memory to your sd card. IMO it accomplishes this task a lot easier than those others, but I still use those others also for other things, just kind of throwing this one out there for those who have not used it before
My Files comes with the stock Samsung rom, btw.
Be careful about moving say nandroid backups to your extSdCard because some versions of CWM don't have access to the external storage only internal storage.

Thanks, yeah thats kind of why I started this thread because not all recoveries or file manager type apps have access or recognize extSd cards and My files makes it so easy to move things back and forth. Anyway I use TWRP for recovery.

Then look for "Samsung Galaxy S3 (Sprint)". Left one is Standard CWM and right one is Touch CWM. These are .img files that must be converted to .tar files to work in Odin.

Wrong. Just download mobile Odin, change the IMG name to recovery.img and flash with mobile Odin. Much easier and no computer needed.

[Q] Where to place ROM file Sprint LGOG?

Coming from a phone that has an SD card, I knew to place the ROM file at the root of phone
But now, with the LGOG on Sprint, I'm a bit confused as to where I should place the file since there isn't a physical sd card.
Does it matter where I place file? It's sitting in my Downloads folder ( /mnt/sdcard) awaiting further instructions
/mnt/sdcard there done lol

Easier to just make a new folder and label it Roms. That way it doesn't mix up with ur downloaded stuff.

We Can Not Change Google Chrome Browser Default Download Directory...

I purchased a 32gb micro memory card (class 10) for my beloved Note2. Then I updated my Google Chrome browser for Android. I made it my default browser. I noticed, all my files I download goes to my internal phone memory.
I tried to figure out how to change the default download directory, with no success. It's just not possible. I'm coming from stock browser, which uses external memory. Also, Dolphin HD browser uses external memory, but not Chrome!
Not Chrome!
Someone correct me but, may have to do with Nexus phones not having an SD card slot and its probably the Nexus' default browser? For some reason they carried that throughout?
Yeah, i thought of that also. But for us with removable external memory cards, it's a pain to keep manually moving my downloaded "stuff" from the storage/sdcard0/download folder to the storage/extSdCard/downIoad folder. It's a shame they can't put it in the settings somewhere.
You could probably use one of the bind Mount utilities from the market to mount the download directory over to the external card.

Don't misunderstand me. I rooted all my Android phones up to my Note 2 (Vibrant, G2, SGS2) however not my Note 2 yet. Its because I use Isis wallet.

How about a download manager? I have been researching for a solution, and came across these download managers. I noticed that If you install these apps, when you attempt to download anything, it asks if you want to use the download manager or "internet". Why can't the download manager point to my "download" folder on my external SD card.

You would need one that's configurable for that. I imagine that's more up to the download manager app than anything else. There has to be one that lets you pick the destination directory.
You could also try something like Script Manager, write a quick script to copy the files over to the external, then delete them from the internal. It wouldn't need root as the sdcard directories don't respect permissions by design. Then set it to run once an hour or similar. The "script" could be as simple as "mv /sdcard/download/* /extSdCard/" .... Assuming "mv" doesn't get angry about them being different filesystems. If not, a "cp" followed by an "rm" would do the same thing. Or you could get fancy and use a loop to check that the files got copied over before deleting the original... lots of options.
Google's hate toward removable storage is irritating.

If you are going that route why not just choose the stock Android browser for downloads and that has an option to download to memory card? You would have to clear defaults in Chrome if you already had chosen to use that to download as default.
I use the download manager that comes with ES File Explorer as my default downloader. All downloads go to my sd card.

This is how you do it: install es file explorer --> open it and go to settings --> select directory settings --> then download path. Pick your SD card. Open chrome and surf to a download of some sort. A pop up should appear and ask how you want to download the file. Choose es file and select always. Done.

If you mean you are removing the stock browser then the options are a third party app as suggested by a few here, but if you leave the stock browser on your phone, once you select that to use to download as default it will be the same as a third party app. It will just download.

Quite an easy fix actually. It requires you to decompile the app, though. If you know how to do that with an SDK tool I can provide you with the modified app file.

Sure! Decompiling sounds scary, plus if I was to figure out how to change the default directory, any updates would totally revert it back. But, having said all that, I will look into how to do such a feat. Thanks.

Nope, didn’t work for me. It seems logical, and it should work, however I can't get it to work correctly from a website I routinely download from that requires a cookie. For some reason the stock downloader app works fine, along with the stock browser, but not Chrome.
