Galxy S2 for noobies

Hi all.
I'm just new to GT-I9100, and I want to know how to do things well...
Pardon me if I missed another threads, but i could not find a proper one... I came from SE world, and things were quite different. A.K.A. ROMs, kernels, and such things... Are here a fastboot mode as it were in my Arc? How can I install CWM? And more important. Can I try any other rom besides stock?

Ok...your device is rooted right.....So then you can choose by your self witch rom you want....for ICS ..i'm running westcrips Resurrection Remix v1.0....
Works like a charm..try this i think it's the best ics experiance you can get on the sgs2..it's real smooth..and the battery simply amazing.

IMPORTANT make a titanium backup of all your apps.
And with safe backup ....backup your data ...like calendar contacts etc.
Before flashin....make a nandroid backup..for that go into custom recovery and run a backup.
Just in case if something goes wrong.

You can everytime go back....check on samfirmware.com
If your carrier not already released an update.....NOTE sure you can wait...no one pushes you..
but you will get an ICS without balls. With f****n touchwiz. sammy does it bc they think we/user love this.it looks like gingerbreat or 2.3.5.
ICS official is allready out...you can flash the open europe version via odin...(you gonna lose root...when you flash a stock)

And my question is that if i have to do an extra thing like unlock bootloader, as on Arc, or just use ODIN?
And another question. How can i reflash my original FW? Kies doesn't recognize my phone for firmware purposes... Even rescue one!!!

Hey worf was a kind busy sorry...
Just for info...you don't get updates via kies and ota because you're rooted.
When you want via kies ...so you should download a stock firmware from samfirmware...and flash via odin.
I loose a bit...do you mean a bootanimation?
Or the Kernel....
You must say Exactly what you want to change....flash

I meant ROM flashing, like cm7, cm9, MIUI, or such things...
I also heard of the yellow triangle issue and the binary counter... Any method to avoid that?

Calling all major haxors, Phone rooted itself wtf?

I need to warranty out my phone for headset jack issues. So i flash it back to stock
Flash recovery first then master reset through stock recovery
Odin stock tmo 2.3.6
I didnt login to google at first. I have the super user elte app purchased and it auto installed.
After this it rooted itself and super user was found with privellages as well... Rom manager installed and so did tb and i waz able to recover a few apps...
Wtf how did this happen

Hey Ninos ill stop by tonight and take a look at it cause i had some questions for you about my unlock code...it wont work...i put my girls old att sim in and it asked for my code but it said wrong code when i installed it. I double checked the IMEI and they match so idk.
Edit: You have all stock? ROM, Kernel and recovery? If you have stock recovery then try and uninstall the superuser and rom manager apps and reboot into stock recovery and wipe cache and reboot see if that works?

If your sending it back to Tmobile, KL1 isn't even the official stock firmware anymore. I would be flashing LE1 personally. At the very least KID. Both have Odin firmwares in the dev section. That's just my opinion though.

Well i have to wait a day for my exhange so ill flash the latest stock firmware. I took a gamble flashing this back to stock. Aside from the head set jack issues the usb doesnt want to connect without a lil jiggle.
I had to jig cable it once when i was odining the stock recovery. It got disconnected in the middle of the flash. I had to turn my a/c off cause even the small breaze hitting the wire would make it disconnect

ok guys im really scared now, i downgraded to my old vibrant for a while to sell my sgs II
phone was super stock before, it was given to me by a friend who knows absolutley nothing about rooting, i root his phones for him.
phone was reset 3 times with stock reset,
im freaking out cause this happens to anyphone i sign in with my gmail and im at a point where im thinking about contacting the fbi.. this is some freaky ass ****. something in my gmail is rooting my phones when i sign in.
anybody ever experience this? ive done some considerable research on linux and google and have discovered that phones cant root their selves

This is the latest Stock Mako port from google. Since cm10.1 and aokp can be buggy at times since they are always a WIP.
I built the stock mako kernel including the fixes that we all as whole has worked together on. This should be as stable as
google made it. I cooked it through the kitchen so you guys can modify theme or whatever you want. I'll merge the updates
as we process. Right now you can get what Nexus 4 got out of the box but with your storage. and get a taste of the stock
aosp experience. I'm assuming this would work for all Canadian variants.

Nice work man, this is what I've been waiting to root my phone for. Though, I may still wait for capacitive keys. I have 1 day to decide before I take off to San Fran for a week for business. I'll mess around today and see if I can live without them, never even tried. Good stuff regardless!

Just tried on E971 with v10e and got black screen. I guess I will need stock v10d before flashing like with cm 10.1.

I did a nandroid of E and kdzed back to D, rooted, unlocked and restored my nandroid to E. Just don't update to the latest OTA again.
Basically the E ota blocked something to do with Mako. But the E nandroid doesn't back up whatever partition the E ota messes up.

I think there may be a problem with Bluetooth. I paired it with my car this morning but when I got in my car later it wouldn't connect. I recall chads ROM doing the same thing really on, perhaps its the same issue with forgetting the address?

Yeah probably not. All the newest OTAs from Bell, Telus and Rogers blocked the Mako related hack somehow.

I feel like an idiot, because I've been using Android and rooting/ROM'ing phones for so long, and have an Electronics Engineering degree...but how the hell do you do anything on this phone with no capacitive keys? Like I don't see any way of going "home" "back" or "menu".
Is this just a feature that is within this ROM or something I need to enable that I cannot find? I'd like to see how it goes before flashing this ROM. I'm still on stock/upgraded Bell.

It uses on screen buttons like the nexus phones, some motorola phones, and some others. There's a small black bar at the bottom of the touch screen for the buttons. (You will have a slightly shorter viewing screen)

[TOOL] Lock/Unlock Bootloader + Remove Tampered | Aroma GUI

This tool will allow you remove the Tampered flag from your bootloader. It will also allow you to easily Lock and Unlock your Bootloader directly from recovery.
No root required since it is run in recovery, however you still must be S-OFF.
Before using this tool you need to be sure you are using the latest version of recovery as the M7 U/UL/Verizon TWRP requires at least version 2.6.3.3 for this package to work. The current downloads for both CWM and TWRP can found below:

Saying this again in case you missed it: YOU MUST BE S-OFF!

scotty1223 for his ADB shell commands. Threads HERE and HERE. Scotty was also very helpful to me in understanding some of the default values.
Just to be clear I did not just copy and paste scotty1223's commands into a aroma installer. The echo command can be problematic in aroma, so I developed original code for all four commands. The end result is the same in that the data in the partitions is changed as needed.

***Troubleshooting***
If the installer stays on this screen fore more than a few seconds, then it means you need to delete/format cache. This can be done within both recoveries. You may need to reboot recovery after clearing cache and begin the installer again. This seems to happen more on CWM than TWRP.
If the installer runs but your bootloader doesn't change, it is proably one of these things:
You are not S-Off
You do not have the latest version of recovery (I recommend TWRP)

I can vouch for this working with the latest TWRP 2.6.3.3.

Per the OP, this requires the latest builds of TWRP or CWM, which are touch enabled.

Latest CWM is available in touch and non touch.

The link for CWM in the OP is for touch. If you are running the classic version, try this out and report back if it works.

I read in the TWRP forum that 2.6.3.3 has a known bug with charging the phone, and some are recommending not to use it right now.
Have any of you guys that are running the latest version know about this bug, and if so has it been an issue enough to revert back to 2.6.3.0?

I flashed 2.6.3.3 Friday night and have not had noticeable changes in battery charging behavior, battery drain or performance issues in general. I seem to remember Tue charging bug brought up by andybones being something to do with charging the phone while powered off, causing the notification led to turn on and not reboot without going to bootloader. I don't turn my phone off so I haven't had the problem yet. Perhaps reading the other forum posts regarding that issue and posting in the original development forum on the TWRP thread would get you more answers.
Edit: I read the thread, and hashcode has recommended not to use that version of TWRP until the charging bug is fixed. I still haven't noticed it so I am not changing back.

It should work on the non touch version of CWM.
I have not noticed any issues with the new TWRP either regarding charging.

Hm this should be a good tool to get the Google drive promo on 4.3 sense roms :thumbup:

No, this tool is for the bootloader only.
You need to modify the hboot in order to remove that.
@santod040 already has one here:

While I could build an option to flash that modified hboot during the install, it is better to to that manually so you are aware of your hboot. If you S-on with a modified hboot you will end up with a bricked device.
Same reason I don't add an option to turn S-on (that was asked for) because I don't want users to brick phones because the mod is too easy and therefor overlooked when returning to stock for some reason.
I may add the option to install the GE hboot with the dark unbranded bootloader, which doesn't have any red text in the future. However that hboot has yet to be tested on Verizon.

Possibly to return to stock for warranty claims. This is just a nice graphical interface that doesn't need command line or a computer. Just another great option that our devs provide us!

You need to have an unlocked bootloader in order to flash any recovery, stock or custom.
Also sometimes there are promotions like the latest Google drive 25GB one that requires a locked bootloader. Also some rom.zip and firmware packages require a locked bootloader on the GSM variants, but I am not sure if that is the case for Verizon.

Just to be clear, the Odin-able ROM will contain Knox, thus flashing it will result in the installation of the e-fuse? Hence if folks attempt to revert, the Knox counter will then trip?

Won't contain the boot loader. So no Knox flag and should be revert able. Shouldn't trip anything since it's official firmware

Cool thanks. I know it wouldn't trip anything if installed, I was just concerned about reverting out of it. My understanding is that once Knox is on, the Knox counter is active. However, whay you're saying is thay the e fuse/Knox counter is boot loader dependent, therefore problem solved by removing the official Leak's boot loader... Correct?
Do you sub the boot loader with a previous version's boot loader? And if that's the case, would we expect the same kind of problems that were encountered with the 4.3 builds (sound, connectivity) until the hybrid modem solution was applied?

No just don't add a bootloader at all.
And evidently people are able to revert according to the i9505 thread.
I'm on mk2 everything including bootloader. Once I have flashed it I'll provide full info if it trips anything.
Dunno yet. I'd imagine you'd at least need the mk2 modem. The modems will be removed too. They'll fail in Odin and if flashed will cause no service.

Guys make sure you do NOT flash this firmware. Its not for Tmobile. Its for DEV , they need to cook a ROM for us.

Do things need removed? Yes. Bootloader and modem's would be one. They fail in odin. You can even flash the recovery if you wanted.
I did the same thing with 4.3 update. No kitchen needed. No fancy fake cooking. Or any other crap another has said.
I'll show you in the next 2 hours. Should be heading home in a few.

Doesn't seem like is going to be so easy the guys over at the international version are trying to cook a rom without much success this is from iB4STiD which builds all the goldeneye roms

He's trying to modify it. I don't modify. I'm not a rom modder of factory firmware. I'll build Carbon, aokp, etc but not a modder.
What I'll give? Is factory touchwiz 4.4.

I tripped both flags on mk2 bootloader and phone reads custom , not that I care but , and wifi isn't working at the moment but everything else is

Yeah mines have been tripped for a while so it doesn't bother me at all either lol..... Weird that the wifi isn't working tho ??? Are you getting any signal lost or is the 4.3 radio working good ??
