I started Kies this morning and it wanted to update itself, after it
did that, it came up with a pop up "An update for T-mobile T989
has been downloded. Please plug in your device to install update".
I can't do that, coz' I'm on The Sith ROM, but I was wondering
if anybody knows anything about this so called "update"?
(I did installed the last update 4.0.4 when it was available and was on original ROM...)

I think this might answer your question. I uninstalled Kies ASAP from my phone/comp so I haven't received a notification, but I think that this might just be a quick patch/fix.
The only that updated was KIES itself for me. No update on the phone..

Hey folks,
I rooted my GS3 right after I got it and everything has been functioning fine. I actually like the stock ROM so I have stuck with it and just removed the bloat. Recently an OTA update was released and I followed an article on putting my updater back to stock to receive the OTA update. I tried updating but it was unable to complete. Now when I go into software updates there is an option that says "continue update" that is grayed out. Is there a workaround to this or do I need to flash back to stock, receive the new update and reroot? If that's the case a link to a walk through would be appreciated. Thanks
anyone?
I was able to get to 4.1 successfully with kies this morning
Hey everyone,
So two night ago I received a notification on my GS3 saying a new update was out.
When I tried installing the update it rebooted into recovery and failed at 24%....weird. I was running Rogers stock rom and recovery at the time so this shouldn't have happened, and I would like to know why for future reference.
I also tried updating via samsung kies. But when I tried this, it said my device wasn't compatible to update via kies????
So I ended up download the LK4 update off sammobile website and installed it using odin.
Anyways, I now have the new update installed. I've noticed two weird things:
1. When I go to about phone in settings and go into software update, it shows a screen "checking for software updates..." and doesn't go away unless I press back or home button. Why can't I search for new updates????
2. My google now voice isn't working. It recognizes what I say to it but when it gives the flashcard response, it doesn't talk back like it normally does. I have it set to English US, and yes my media volume is up at full volume.
Anyways I'm a little frustrated at this point. I can't figure out how to fix these problems so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi there,
yesterday I received an update Notification on my german Note2 4.1.2 N7100XXDLK7 (rooted)
It said something about security and stability and I think 22 MB
I confirmed and the device showed me a notice, that it will reboot and install the update. But after my O.K. another window popped up, that checked for updates. After that nothing happens and I have to cancel that window after some minutes.
From now on the update notification will frequently pop up, but it will never complete.
I disabled "check for updates" in the settings and rebooted, but it doesn't help.
How can I either complete the update or cancel it for good?
Greez,
Dirk.

Update with Kies or better yet flash the whole rom with Odin from this website www.sammobile.com/firmware.

Ah. Thnx.
Used Kies and rooted afterwards.
Worked great
I've got an unrooted, completely stock, unlocked Galaxy Nexus. A few weeks ago, I updated it to 4.3 when prompted by the usual notification ("System update downloaded: Touch to install"), and the update went fine.
However, since then I keep getting the same notification again, and pressing it seems to reinstall 4.3. The notification then reappears after a week or so. I know the update isn't failing, as I can see in the settings that it's running 4.3.
Does anyone know why it might be doing this, and how I can stop it?!
