[Q] Need help on rooting my Xperia Arc Lt15i - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help me out in rooting my Xperia Arc Lt15i?
I'm trying to use the SuperOneClick to root my device but I don't know how, it so much complicated. Even through I followed the steps in online but I stuck in the middle of the steps. Does anyone could kindly please post up any good instruction for me to go on for the root process?
*I have downgrade it to 0.42
I'm a new android user.

okies i'm going to assume you want to have the latest version of android OS on your arc
1. Download a ready to root ftf for your Lt15i. Here is one
2. Use flashtool to flash the ftf onto your phone. There are a lot of tutorials on youtube, but here's one I thought was great.
3. Download this and unzip it. Put your phone in debugging mode and plug the phone to the PC. Run the 'RunMe.bat' file and the file should root your phone automatically.
4. When the program says 'done', close it.
5. afterwards, download this kernel and flash it to your phone and you're done!

Thanks for providing the instruction for me. Anyway I've flashed my phone with the reference here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560777 with the link provided by jlmcr87 for the firmware and flashtool. So it became from version 0.62 into 0.42. But the tutorials on youtube was something 0.283? Looks weird. Can you tell me whats the difference?

The only difference is the version of firmware you are flashing. You can always update it through pc companion once you've flashed the firmware

First thing to get your phone working again, grab an arc ftf and flash that. Should be good to go.
Not sure what the practice of flashing arc s ftfs on arcs is, go read some more threads?

download a arc firmware from here for your phone and then ( i assume you know how to use flashtool) 1) remove your battery dont let ig drain upto zero. 2) insert it in your phone.3)immidieately connect your phone in flashtool mode (that is by pressing back button while you inster the already connected cord to the computer from the other end) 4) now your phone should be in flashtool mode i.e it should be ready for flashing.
if you have any problem, send me a pm i'll help you out

Get the firmware you want for the arc s, go into flashmode, open up flash tool and flash the FTF. And it's fixed.
Can you get into fastboot?
Try takin out the battery giving it a few minutes reinsert, hold the menu button then connect the USB you.should get (if I remember correctly...) a green light. Then from there flash a stock kernel to get it working again or try to flash that kernel again. Remember to note down errors!

Just kernel might not help. System partition might be also required.
And to all the smart boys around - USB debugging has nothing to do with flashing FTF files. Doesn't matter if it is on or not, flashing will be successful anyway.

I have a very similar problem. I tried to flash a ROM on my samsung galaxy ace-i(5830i) and got stuck at the boot logo. I cant get into recovery mode. The download mode works fine so, I tried to flash the stock rom using odin but the phone is not even connecting, I think it is because I have USB debugging off on the phone. I am not sure what to do! I have attached a pic of what i have done on odin.
I know this is not the right thread, but i am desperate please help! Or at least guide me to the right thread, please!

as you have a sammy device, look for a kernel for your ace with recovery and flashable via odin. that will boot you to recovery and then you can flash any other ROM, i.e cm10 to boot your phone initially

USB Debugging is not needed for flashing with Flashtool. It is needed for rooting and then installing busybox libs.

Please help! Xperia Play R800x VERIZON!

Hi I'm new here, just made an account 5 minutes ago.
I need help with getting CM7, CM9 or any other Custom Rom on my Xperia Play R800X VERIZON. I am Rooted, and have an Unlocked Bootloader. I was able to flash a UK version of the Xperia Play android version 2.3.3 Rom to make sure my bootloader was unlocked. The UK version was nice but it wasn't for me.
Just trying to get CM9 on my phone! but for some reason I'm having a really hard time doing so.
If anyone can help me or give me advice it would be much appreciated, I'm just trying to make use of my unlocked Bootloader! D:

Download the rom, extract the kernel then place the rom on the root of your sd card. flash kernel with flashtool, boot into recovery, WIPE EVERYTHING, flash rom and gapps. They have instructions on how to install on 99% of the threads.. good luck

Is there a "best" if you will, ROM or Kernel for the Xperia Play? I'm just trying to get the most out of my device. Also how do I get the gapps you mentioned?
I've done this a few times already but the main problem for me is: I get the kernel working, get into recovery, but when I got to apply/ flash the ROM I always seem to get and error message of some sort. Its very aggravating. I've been checking all over the internet for a solution but nothing so far, I've been awake for almost 48 hours now looking for a solution -.-
Thanks
There is a flashtool thread in development section.
And, the best ROM I love is Cola ROM. Has no Verizon Bloatware! Favorite thing about it

I appreciate all the replies!
But for some reason NONE of this is working for me :/
I can flash a stock ftf file via flashtool no problem. I can enter recovery via X-parts app no problem. But when it comes to flashing the kernel via flashtool & unzipping the rom file via recovery they always report back an error message which leaves my phone completely useless or stuck on a boot loop which I then have to re flash stock rom to have a working phone again.
Hopefully that made sense lol, I have TeamViewer if anyone can help me thru that possibly idk I'm out of ideas...

To flash kernels, I use Fastboot instead of FlashTool. If course if you choose that route, you'll need to set up Fastboot.

Did you get the files downloaded? If so place them in a folder on your PC together.
Power your phone off. Then power on while holding the search button. You should see the blue LED on top of your phone which means you are in Fastboot mode.
Try that much and report back, then we can work on actually flashing the kernel.

[q] downgrading from 4.0.4 to 2.3.6

I have been using the stock 4.0.4 ics software on my arc s.
Not really happy with ics. I want to roll back to gingerbread. I dont have any idea about rooting phones.
Pls help me out if anybody knows the way to rollback to stock 2.3.6. Gingerbread software.
Provide with the name of relevant softwares n firmware link.
Well first of all there's no 2.3.6 for the arc. The last GB version we have is 2.3.4.
That being said I'm sure if you search hard you'll find the ftf files for GB. Might be hard since ICS has been the main topic nowadays but go search and you should find something.
Sent from my LT15a using xda app-developers app
Not an issue but just want GB back anyhow!
Before you downgrade your arc s from ICS to GB, you must backup data, contacts, messages, etc. Else, you will lose all data, contacts, messages in phone. This downgrade method (flash method) not delete your SD card data.
1) Install Flashtool. Flashtool file can get from:-
http://androxyde.github.com/
2) After install Flashtool, install ADB driver from Flashtool\drivers folder (file name: Flashtool-drivers). Make sure check the component "Sony Ericsson Xperia arc,...drivers" during Flashtool driver installation.
3) Get GB firmware (4.0.2.A.0.62) for your phone model. The firmware can get from:-
http://xperiadev.wordpress.com/flashing/xperia-ftf-firmwares/
4) Enable USB Debugging before connect your phone with computer. Go to phone [Settings->Developer options-> Check "USB Debugging"].
5) Connect your phone to computer.
6) Launch Flashtool program. [Don't click on the Flashmode (Thunder icon)]
7) Drag and drop the *.ftf (firmware files in ftf format) into Flashtool main window and the Flashmode window will automatically open with the *.ftf file.
8) Check "Wipe data", "Wipe cache" and "No final verification" at right hand side of Flashmode window, then click "OK".
9) A messages pop-up (1-Unplug the device,...,4-Plug the USB cable). Turn off phone, press and hold "BACK" button, then connect the phone to computer.
10) It will start flashing the firmware.
11) Once completed, disconnect phone from computer.
12) The phone will reboot automatically. Done. If you do everything correctly, GB will be installed on your phone now.

Hi just scrolling thru.I am on 4.0.4/0.587 too.Tried flashing down.562 but when i did the root it got stuck midway. After that i had force close issues.I then downloaded SEUS and did a factory reset and got updated back to 4.0.4/.587.Right now on my windows7 i have:
1)SEUS
2)PC companion
3)SDK
4)Java JRE
5)Flashtool
and Rooting toolkit
I am sure one of this actually screwed up my root.I was just wondering if this could help me do an easier root process and than get back to
ICS.
maybe your .562 isn't flashable. I know for sure that this one is flashable. try it out

It wont detect it. Go to update and when it tells you no device detected, click repair. When it prepares the firmware and asks you to connect it, hold vol down while plugging it in. IIRC that's how I did it.

In the last time the phone booted ADB was enabled, then you should be able to do the following adb commands while in the bootloop:
Code:
adb pull /data/app .\app
adb pull /data/data .\data
adb pull /sdcard .\sdcard
Then you flash it in repair mode through SUS or PC Companion, after that enable ADB and do the following commands, but make sure your working dir is the same used during adb pull, otherwise it'll fail:
Code:
adb push .\app /data/app
adb push .\data /data/data
adb push .\sdcard /sdcard
If ADB wasn't enabled, then you will need Flash Tool and a FTF file for Xperia M, choosing to flash only /system partition should make it work again with minimal data loss (any app/mod that modified the /system partition will be lost)

Thats probably because you are using the wrong boot image file of CWM. make sure you have the proper file i.e for the proper firmware and redo what you already know update and flash boot
Hi guys, please help, I have a simmilar problem.
I have (successfully) rooted my phone while leaving bootloader unlocked, but than I've realized that I have to unlock it in order to install CM11.
I have followed the instructions on SE folder and got the message that bootloader is successfully unlocked.
After that, the phone enters a bootloop every time I try to turn it on. Then, I've instaled CWM using flashtool and boot.img from CM11(kernel)?
Maybe the last one was bad idea, but I wanted to try to simply install new rom and see if it will help.
But I've stopped to ask for advice, is that the right thing to do or something else?
edit:
Because I've instaled CM11's boot.img(kernel) I don't know if I can simply use PC companion repair? And if I use PC companion what will happen with my root? And is it safe just to try to continue with installing CM11?

Do you fixed the bootloop after unlocking bootloader?
Or maybe you used an invalid cwm.

Don't update using pcc or ur phone will brick. Just download the 4.3 Ftf and flash via flashtool. Then flash cwm kernel for cm11 then flassh cm11 rom.
Or if u can access cwm of cm11 wipe data cache and flash cm11 rom.

If you use this method, you will lose your settings and personal apps and data.
you've been warned.
Download Flashtool, and the firmware(ftf). 15.5.a.1.5, its available on XDA.
Install Flashtool, run it. On first run it will download a list of devices from GitHub. Then install drivers from Flashtool/drivers folder. select Xperia M (nicki), flash, and fastboot drivers.
Run Flashtool again, select the lightening symbol on top. select flash mode.
Select the ftf file(firmware) downloaded.
It will prepare the files then will ask you to connect the device.
Press volume down button pressed and connect the device to PC.
It will install the frimware.

I don't know what caused the bootloop. Thanks for pcc info, **** I'd never say that would cause brick
Anyway, I've just flashed original rom again, than cwm for cm11 and cwm11. Now it's fine.
If anyone has same problem, this can help:

It wont detect it. Go to update and when it tells you no device detected, click repair. When it prepares the firmware and asks you to connect it, hold vol down while plugging it in. IIRC that's how I did it.
PS: it'll get wiped

Hello there,
I think i have a solution to your problem and the answer is ( just follow what i say)
1) Download Androxyde XPERIA Flashtool from here.
2) Then install it on your PC , later install Fastboot and Flashtool Drivers (the .exe file will be there in c:\flashtool\flashtool drivers,u need not download separately) , as u are using Sony Xperia M , Check Flashtool drivers , Fastboot Drivers and Drivers for Xperia P,S when prompted.
3) Download the .FTF file of your Phone. Google it u"ll find it in no time
4)Then open Flashtool and Connect your Phone in Flashmode Mode ( by holding Volume Down button ,check for ur phone )
5) Search for the .FTFfile u"ve downloaded , Do check Wipe cache and data checkboxes and then click Flash, plz wait for the Flashtool to detect and prepare your files for Flashing
That's it , Now your Phone will work like never before
Plz tell me if it worked or not coz it worked for me and i am sure it will work for u too. i use Sony Xperia M Dual C2004
Hit thanks if it helped

[Q] Xperia play Gingerbread to Jellybean/Kitkat

Hi can anyone advise what the problem could be?
I have been trying to upgrade my Xperia play from Gingerbread to Jellybean and failed,
My handset is Bootloader unlock Status = No, although O2 unlocked the carrier so I could use any carrier.
So when I goto Sony bootloader unlock site the phone will not goto fastboot mode. Just says Waiting
When I open Fashtool I have successfully rooted the phone, but when I try to Flash the phone rather than go into Fastboot mode the just restarts.
I am using Windows 7 64bit.
Any help on getting this done is greatly appreciated

Umm I think only the simlock has been removed. But the bootloader is still locked and cannot be unlocked. and what button are you pressing to go into flashboot?

I have used search button whilst plugining in USB.
Does that mean bootloader is locked, so impossible to unlock?
The sticker on the back of the phone is W46. Read somewhere that using Flashtool may damage the phone.
Thanks in advance

SIM Unlocking the phone inst the same as Unlocking the Bootloader. If you Have Bootloader unlock Status = No you can still unlock your Bootloader via the Test Point method.
If you Unlock your phone with the Test Point method you will not have acces to Fastboot Mode, but you can still Flash Kernels via Flash Mode Using the FTF version of it(insted of a boot.img file).
Look in my signature if you want any FTF kernel.

I have successfully done the test point via s1 tool method, but I'm not quite sure which version of JB to upload and how to my Xperia Play. Can someone give me a step by step guide on how to flash my phone?
Thanks in advance

Just read the instructions for whatever kernel you are using, and same with the rom you want to install.

As above, follow the guide above. Since you unlocked via the testpoint and there's no fastboot, you need to have your kernels in a .ftf file format.
Here's a thread with download links to ftf kernels: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739559
You will need to use flashtool to flash them. The JB ROM can then be flashed via recovery normally.
My Xperia PLAY was locked to O2 as well and testpoint unlocked, and these have been working fine for me so far... although for some reason my phone stopped working with ICS ROMs. GB and JB still works however.
Phone bricked.
I flashed the Lupus JB kernal and then entered recovery menu and deleted formatted and now it just a blank screen as if the phone is off yet plugging in the usb is recognised by computer yet flashtools and Sony companion can't repair or recognise.
Any ideas?
Grover
Exactly what did you delete/format under recovery? All I did was pick the factory reset option, then wiped cache and dalvik cache, and then flashed the ROM and worked fine for me. I'm using version 8 of the kernel however for the extra data space.
Here are the ftf files for the stock original Sony firmware, which you can use to restore your device if flashing goes wrong (.79 is the latest): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43935357&postcount=2
I formatted the file as you did and it came on with a blank lit screen so I flash the default file in firmware a on flash tools to get nothing but a blank dead screen
Any help is greatly appreciated
Grover
1) Download the .79 ftf firmware and place it in Flashtool's firmware folder.
2) Open up flashtool, and plug in the Xperia PLAY in flash mode (hold back button while plugging in USB). Flashtool should report the device is in flash mode.
3) Press the flash button (lightning symbol) and select the stock .79 firmware, then confirm to flash that.
4) Wait for it to finish flashing. Flashtool will then ask you to reboot the device.
5) Unplug the phone and hold the power button until it vibrates. Let go and it should boot back into the stock Xperia software.
It should now be back to stock, and you can attempt to try custom ROMs and kernels again.
Unfortunately this is where the problem lies. Flash tools doesn't recognise that the phone is there hence can't flash it with stock firmware.
It is In a dead state. Is there anyone who offers a service to Unbrick it and what tools are required?
I am not dettered by having bricked my phone, as this is all part of my learning, although I would appreciated a possible fix to Unbrick it.
Thanks in advance
Grover
Have you installed the drivers for the phone from the flashtool driver folder? Have a check here on how to do it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054486

All the drivers where installed as per instruction. The phone is in a state of being off all the time no lights or anything.
The only thing that is heard is the usb sound on the computer when it is connected.
Flashtools Sony Companion doesn't see the phone at all.

Yes, if you unlocked your Bootloader via the test point method for the R800x and the R800i you should have access to Fast Boot Mode. You only don't get access to Fast Boot Mode if you have "Bootloader unlock status: No"(and unlocked via the Test Point Method), witch is about 100% of R800a users.
As above. Sadly, all phones sold from O2 UK have bootloader unlock as no, so the normal way of unlocking won't work and only the tespoint method is avaliable... So no fastboot. Due to that, I buy my phones unlocked and unbranded now. Luckily thanks to the great developers on here we can still root and play around with custom ROMs.
What version of Windows are you using Grover? I'm not sure if it's related but I have problems with adb/fastboot drivers on Windows 8/8.1 with HTC devices. Everything works perfectly on 7 though.
