Anyone else getting issues with screen burn in, ghosting, or image retention whatever you wanna call it. I have had my epic 4G touch since around February and I can see that my status bar has burned in on the top and right side. It's not that bad but still pretty noticeable and just wanna know if there's a way to correct this.

insurance?
I never heard of burn in on a cell phone.
I have the total protection from sprint but they say they don't do screen replacement. What the hell am I paying am extra 9 bucks a month for if they won't fix the most vulnerable part on a phone. I discovered it in the app lcd test you can see how one edge is brighter than the others. More visible on blue or gray screens

Throw it off a roof then they will fix the screen.

I got my e4gt used and didn't notice the burn-in until about a week later. You can see the gingerbread status bar and a blank messaging screen (along with keyboard) in certain conditions (I'm guessing the previous owner fell asleep and the phone didn't ). Not much I can do since I'm not even on Sprint, but at least it's gotten a little better over time.

I had burn in on my last one. Went in told them gps was messing up and this screen had burn in. They gave me a refurb. I had burn in from my notification bar and I had the panel in opera mobile burned in.

so So i was playing with my phone today i come to notcie this weird lines that look like burn images on the phone. So i look around and see that i have the vertical line issue similar to the t mobile SG2. is anyone else having this problem ?
Nope...no lines here

Have not seen this on mine at all.
yeah i thought so have you guys tried the dark room test to see ?
I have the same problem where you can see traces of the keyboard on a white screen like google or something. Im wondering if sprint will replace the phone for free since this is a hardware problem???
Does anyone know?

here is a link for those who dont believe me
what are your settings? it would be easier for us to try and replicate what you are seeing on our phones if you would tell us what exactly you are doing on your phone to see these lines. what brightness, what wallpaper, what app, etc..,?

so does anyone know what Im talking about with the letters of the keyboard being burned into the screen?
I looked at the test and what they are showing I don't have that problem on mine however.
Most likely you will not have these issues with our phone. If u are having white lines or burned in images on your screen.I suggest going to the sprint store .

I have horizontal lines going up and down my screen. it only happens at around 80% and 20% battery with the brightness below half. it is best seen on a white backround. I looked into it and I have come to the conclusion its these screens.

So i called sprint they wont do anything. Its not affectin performance in anyway. I think if i become major anal ill do a asurion replacement.

It's a bad display, regardless of what they tell you. I had the same exact problem on the first S2 epic touch I got. There are lots of them out there with that same problem, not sure if it's a manufacturer defect or what, but definitely not supposed to look like that. I took mine in after 3 days of use , I was NOT gonna ride with a display like that, (for me it was even worse in a dark room with low brightness, really obvious then...also had a pink tint when scrolling on the white background xda app), got a replacement and it is perfect. No dark/light lines, etc.. Everything looks great no matter what I do.
Sorry to hear cause it sucks, considering how high end this phone is..

I have both t mos and sprints GS2. Both have the same problem, altho the tmo you can see it more on tmos. I would say they are bad screens becouse the epic 4g did not have this problem. Its called the "brushed metal effect"

This morning I woke up to find my phone dead off the charger. I plugged it in to charge and went back to sleep. I woke up later and powered it up. Then I noticed an odd discoloration in the lower right side of my screen. A quick load of a webpage with a white background and sure enough I had some large yellowish blob discoloring my beautiful display on my T-Mobile Galaxy S II.
I haven't had this phone for more than two months so I called T-Mobile and they quickly issued a warranty replacement (it's in the mail). So, I ask you, what's wrong with this picture and has anyone else seen this on their phone?
(see attached picture of my screen)
I haven't seen that. Good that they replaced it. My screen has a dead pixel...can't really see it because its at the status bar and the signal icon is right on top of it, but I'm going to try to get it replaced. Hopefully they do as I haven't paid my bill yet.

Whoa that is crazy looking. Sorry about your phone! Never sen that before.
Possibly extensive exposure to UV light. (Sun)
UV damages the organic light emitting diodes. Almost instantly upon exposure.
They manufacture the screen in such a way that prevents UV damage. If they didnt, just using it in a naturally lit room could rape your screen. But maybe yours is flawed.

I have no idea what caused that, but the first thing I thought of was how crt monitors would look like that when I left an unshielded speaker (magnet) nearby..and I think I just showed my age.

Best guess is that it was an inherent flaw in the LCD that came out after being bumped or dropped? Either way, handset insurance took care of it and T-Mob waived the fees because it was only a week or two old at the time. They shipped me a new one overnight and I sent them the bad one back...
Mine had similar problem. Something impacted the screen I guess. At one point I could see a dark line in the blob. Figured it was a crack. But mine grew until it consumed the whole screen.

I've got that too! Doesn't bother me too much though!
Yeah, the bottom half of my screen also is getting a slight discoloration at lower brightness levels. It's just the way these screens work - if you get a replacement the new one will eventually do it as well over time. I've resorted to minimizing the keyboard off the screen as much as possible when I'm reading text messages or whatever app it may be.
Will the One X or the S3 suffer from burn in? I had that problem with the SGS2. I was hoping it wouldn't happen to this phone. I haven't noticed any burn in yet.
I've noticed it as well. Never saw burn in on my epic 4g (sgs1). So I found it as a shock seeing it on this screen. It fades slowly but I fear when it will never go away.

Are you sure it really is a burn-in per definition?
You know what, read this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22792659&postcount=13
Excellent explanation by chopper the dog who says it's not a burn in.
I bought my s3 yesterday. and Last night going to bed I have to play with again. I noticed when I have all the brightest low I could see a lot of black dots on the screen and a lot of black lines on the bottom of the screen. Is it just mine or your is too? Again I had my lights off and put the brightest all the way down on the screen. Then try on your phone to get a black picture and you will see. I took a screenshot of it but I can only see these black stuff with low bright. If this is just me I may have to return this baby
Common issue with this phone. Also on the s2

Yeah I noticed about the other thread. I got my phone yesterday and noticed it when I was in bed playing with it. I have the s2 t989 as well and that doesnt have the defect. I understand some of the old s2 have some defect on the screen color but this one is different. It looks like the digitizer was cracked. At the bottom it looks like a signature a bunch of black line and a lot of dots on the screen. Though when I put the brightest a little bit brighter its gone. It doesnt bother me. But This phone is new and it should not have any defect.
Common defect nbd. Not even close to how awful the backlight bleed was on my iPad 2 before I got it replaced.
I do Have the same issue but i'm not sure if goingto change my phone is under warranty!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
known issue. However, my S3 doesn't have any or at least it is much much better than 2 my previous ones. (yes, I know how to check it and Im very picky; Im that kind of guy that goes to the closet to check the screen right after unboxing it). I didn't exchange my phone for this issue. i just happen to get a non-black dot one. Exchange it if you feel so. doesn't affect much tho.
This is on all OLEDs even mine, it is not defect and will not disrupt colors or brightness since they are visible only in pitch black, I don't even think they would replace your phone because of that

So I bought my galaxy s3 outright (meaning full price, I know, some will say it is stupid to do that, but it was Thanksgiving sale and my upgrade wasn't till next year and my phone only had gingerbread.)
After saying that, I bought my galaxy s3 and found out it had a few dead pixels. They were tiny specks that were barely noticeable. After 6 months of use, they increased. Now there are 7x more spots and some are even blotches. Very annoying. That being said, paying 500$ for a device, I wish it didn't have this problem.
How many of you have this problem too?
Note: The specks I am talking about are the black spots on your screen when viewing a black background area (such as loading YouTube video) in a darkroom. They are annoying.

SPRINT GS3 FAQ
I broke my phone a few weeks back and got a replacement from Asurion for $150. I got my original S3 for $360 off contract on eBay and never had any issues with it. Although I saw the black inky spots only when powering off the device when the screen went dark I could see them. Other than that I could not replicate the issue. Anyways, the new/refurbished phone had black inky blots that were visible in low light setting. I immediately called them and they sent a new phone that has no issues.
I was thinking about taking phone into sprint.. decided it wasn't worth it. Maybe the whole screen will just get black specks everywhere so it evens out.
Sent From My Rooted, S-OFF'd Blackberry Curve using the iOS XDA Application for Android.
I had the blotches, so I know just what you're talking about. I could only see them in a very dark room with my brightness all the way down when there was a black background. I took it to sprint within 15 days of getting the phone. They replaced it with a new one but it had the same problem so I returned it again. On my 3rd gs3 now and the screen seems fine.

I work with somebody that switched to an iPhone because his 3 replacement s3s all had this issue. It's annoying but it's not a game breaker. I only notice them on very dark grey screens and 99.9% of the time, it's when I'm booting into recovery or waiting for a video to load. It's not a game breaker because when I'm actually using the phone during the day I never see them. I told him he was over reacting but whatever, I guess some people can't get over their OCD.

As ascertain said above you, they're hard to see and they're best seen when the screen goes black but it still on, like booting into recovery. There could be any number or size of them on your screen, or none. I was able to see them in a very dark room with a my brightness all the way down and a black wallpaper. I also had lux to lower the brightness more.
A lot of people probably have them and don't even know it. My wife's gs3 has the blotches and she didn't know before I told her. A friend with an at&t gs3 has blotches and my first two gs3's had them. Pretty common, I'd say.
I have those black specs and I had them on every Galaxy S phone I've owned. I even had them on my Galaxy Nexus (much worse on the Nexus though). It doesn't bother me too much, screen burn in on the status bar bothers me more. -_-
