Wondering if there is a pre-rooted stock OTA image of the latest official sprint update?
I rooted prior to the official Jellybean update and am running the CM10 nightlies (working just fine btw). However in the past with other phones I have rooted, a rom would come out a week or two later with a stock build of the latest release - in case you had to go into a sprint store etc.
Now, I have a recovery of the pre JB image - but wanted to see how stock sprint ran.
Am I missing it? My guess is I probably am but I searched the forum and also clockwork mod downloadables and don't see a thing.
Any help would be greatly apprectiated.

Flash the stock image, take the OTA (or manually apply it if its being slow), then root. Rooting takes 2sec, just do it yourself.

+1 This.
I could make you a pre-rooted OTA, but it is more work to do that than to just flash the original OTA and flash the root zip after, so there is no real point.

So I know the rule about never accepting otas but I was asked a question and couldn't remember. So if I accept an ota will it brick my phone or will it just update and unroot?

depends on what you did to your phone with root access.
are you on stock? ROM?
Yea stock rom just rooted

Well if you are on stock and you rooted, you will most likely lose your root (although some posts around here say that root aces is preserved during update in some rare cases).
If you are on a custom rom (e.g. if you installed an update using a custom recovery) and you are updating to a stock update then you will be likely screwing your phones system. depending on where you messed (or let a programmer mess using custom recovery or Rom managers) you could be bricking your phone as well since there are updates for boot and recovery in the stock updates to 4.0.2 and 4.0.4 (I don't count 4.0.3 since google pulled it off their site).
If you want a stock version of the newest android for your GN make it a manual patch by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391881 make sure you do flash the boot, recovery and radio as well...
But before you do that check in with the forum thread or website were you got your custom rom or root method and ask them for advice, Yeah do that! It's the safest way to do something when you know how others got to the point where you wanna go!
Thx alot

Please let us know how things worked out for you.
Hint: after following the steps above you are on the official google builds. Nice thing about that is you get new android versions as updates on the very second they are released. And most things that come with root are already available in the unrooted system (except overclocking) so why bother about root and stuff when you as a non-developing user can acces more priveleges on stock while rom builders for other phones try to keep up with YOUR system?

I'm completely stock right now just a rooted 4.0.2 I will probably stay like this until cm9 becomes stable or AokP next milestone comes out because he current one did not agree with my phone at all

Can I still receive OTA updates while rooted and custom recovery? I ask because I am not getting the notification people are talking about. I tried unrooting and it still says I'm up to date. I have TWRP recovery. U would like to receive OTAs at least until Jellybean comes out, then I'll go custom. I'm coming from a Samsung Vibrant that I was really used to updating and it seems like some things have changed since then.

Do you have custom rom? On custom roms there is no notification about OTA updates.
I just made a guide that might help you for stock rooted roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842142
It will take you the Kies route to get your update. I also did not receive a notification.
I do not have a custom Rom. I am using the stock, root injected Rom and TWRP. I have the original recovery of I need it and OTA root keeper. I thawed out all of my frozen bloatware apps, so I should be fairly straight, besides root and recovery.
Also curious if I flash Wildchild's deodexed stock OTA update, would I still be able to get notifications or does that classify as "custom"since it's deodexed?

I assume your guide method will trip the flash counter and I use Triangle away to resolve that? I used the no trip method to get root the first time, that's why I ask about Wildchild's deodexed version because I have flashable one downloaded already if all is well with future OTAs.

Yes, on my guide you will trip the flash counter when you install the custom recovery again in ODIN. But like you said, triangle away and your good.
Where are you located? OTAs are generally sent out in waves, by region i think. Just may not be pushed to your area yet.
And if you are rooted, you can download the updated but it will fail at install.

I'm on the west coast of the U.S. I'm sure I'm not in the wave yet, but I'm impatient (as it seems like most of us in these forums are) and I'm going to flash the deodexed version... now. Thanks for your quick replies and I'm keeping cybrnook's guide for later reference just in case.
Okay, so I flash that root injected OTA update and new modem with no flash counter trip, but now my device status is modified. Can I get future OTA notifications?
I am rooted with cwm and wicked rom v2. I got the notification and was able to download it however when it rebooted and went into cwm recovery and it says aborted and failed.
So I think if you have a custom recovery you will not be able to do ota updates but might be possible for Kies update never tried Kies so not sure

As long as you are on a stock based rom and the ota componets are intact, you should get notified if there is an update.
The update will fail though so you have to either get it as a custom rom or update via kies or odin.
Most people say it fails because of root, but I think it can also fail due to either a custom recovery and/or having a deodexed rom. (Not 100% about that last one though)

This +1 (fails due to custom recovery I believe)
i'm running 4.1.
and since a few days ago, my nexus is saying the update is ready and i should update.. i guess it's 4.2?
anyway, last time i updated like this, i lost my root..
so what's the easiest way to accept this system update but still keep my root?
The easiest way is just to flash a rooted stock 4.2 ROM. I don't know why people are so dependent on OTA when they're XDA members...

Install an ap called "OTA rootkeeper" by Voodoo, run it and give it root permissions.
Then it'll do what it says (I last used it on a GN about the 4.0.1 update, should still work though).
I tried this process earlier today, i mean, JOP40C -> JOP40D through OTA, worked fine..
Rooted it in like 1 min. Still got the stock recovery on too. To an unlocked user, i don't see the point of protecting root with app X or Y.

Make sure you have a unlocked bootloader, the rest is non-issue.....

this..
agree with others just flash a rom which is 4.2 there are a few in the developers section which are pure 4.2 or look at rasbeanjelly which is pure 4.2 with a few nice tweaks.
The custom roms are often ahead of the google ones they had the date fixed in the contacts app before google pushed a fix
Since ATT claims that they will be doing an OTA update tomorrow I'm wondering what will happen to my rooted phone. Do I install the update? Will it try and automatically install the update itself? If it does what will happen to my phone. I'm currently on the latest version of Clean ROM. Thanks for all the help in advance!
I am kinda curious about this also. I am just rooted tho , with the exploit method. No custom roms or anything. I unchecked the options and rebooted to get phone state normal and then checked for updates , but didn't find anything.

I am also rooted and using CleanRom 3.5. I am sure the build date for the current CleanRom will be newer than the AT&T build date supposedly coming today. I guess I won't be updating since they are only adding multiview and I already have it via CleanRom. When the day comes that 4.1.2 is pushed out by AT&T and an update is needed, will I need to unroot my phone to get that update or is there another method?
If you have a custom recovery and things frozen or deleted with titanium backup you must undo all of that and get a stock recovery and then use ota root keeper to temporarily hide the root and you should be ok

Ahhh, Ok. Thanks!
I'm not sure why anyone would want to go back to stock if you have a custom rom already installed. Custom roms will always be a step or 2 ahead of the carrier releases. This current at&t update is only for multi window and whatever updates are released in the future are likely going to be available via custom roms long before the official carrier release anyway.

I was rooted, running CWM, and CleanROM 3.5. I went into recovery and flashed the stock rom and it automatically downloaded and installed the update even though i had a custom recovery. After the update was complete I lost root and had stock recovery. The official ATT 4.1.2 update is way slower than CleanROM 3.5 so Im rooting and flashing back. Also cant customize toggles like the international 4.1.2.

Interesting. I am running root stock with twrp. I removed root, but still have custom recovery (twrp). Flashing the update fails due to ro.secure==1 or something.
Did you do anything at all to prep for the update, maybe ta or hide root?

I got an update push today. I told it to go ahead, but it rebooted to twrp and stopped. Now Ive put back the stock recovery and everytime i hit update in settings nothing happens.

Well now you cant run an update with a custom recovery on board and since you started it there is prolly a file or the OTA server thinks you have it installed and is not offering it again.
Best thing to do on phones where you have custom recovery? Look here on the boards for the Stock ROIM of the version you want. If you wanted it un-rooted [no super user] then look in the returning to stock thread, if you want supersu (have your phone rooted) then look for a ROM of your choice based on the Android Version of your choice they range from hardly any changes [the ones that say only busybox and rooted are usually just stock ROM with just those 2 additions].
You want to use JB which Samsung has not even upgraded the T989 to yet [completely stable and I have been using it as my Daily Driver for month ].
First download ROM Manager from Market and have it flash CWM Recovery
Go to development section here and find the ParanoidAndroid thread and download the Nov 18 dated file and Gapps and flash those
Now you will have Android 4.1.2 - Jellybean! Enjoy
I have stock rooted 4.0.4 and it asked me to update. Do you think T-Mobile is releasing an update? Anyone else getting it?
I'd like to keep my wifi calling so i havent moved to a 4.1.2 rom.

I've been receiving an update as well. Problem is every time I go to update since my phone is rooted but running the stock rom, after i reboots to start the update it sends me to Clockwork Recovery...which actually brings me to ask my question here instead of starting a new thread. I really don't want to un-root since I make use of the cracked Google Play for a couple of my apps Do I really have to un-root just to receive T-Mobiles update?
