Hi,
I have an HTC Wildfire whose GPS, proximity. touch panel, camera, ambient light, and compass sensors are all not working. Even the joypad is not working (except in recovery where the centre button works). Only the volume buttons are working. I can only control the phone via screencast. I have changed ROMS but problem still persists. The charging/notification LED also does not work.
The phone appears to have suffered some water damage (bought in that state).
Has anyone ever faced this problem? I was thinking that this could be something as simple as a crystal oscillator or a diode for the sensor IC having a dry joint.
The problem is that I don not know which IC controls these sensors. Does anyone know? IF you can let me know or if you have any schematics I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

having the exact same issue. I found a cab called TurnOffTheLight but haven't had a chance to try it yet.
For me, it would be better if the proximity sensor was off permanently, if possible.

Hi
could you test teh cab and tell us here if that can turn of permanemtly the proximity sensor ?
regards Nolan
TurnOffTheLight works to turn off the backlighting but as soon as you move the phone the proximity sensor kicks in again.
in the app called Advanced Config there is a category for adjusting the threshold of the Light Sensor. Unfortunately I have no idea how to adjust it (it is at 0 now) and/or if adjusting this would affect the proximity sensor. Can someone comment on this?

Proximity Sensor behavior and solution
I am a late comer to this bb! Hey,I thought all the bugs would be worked out by now! My keyboard did not work right, .... and I have had several other problems with the touchpro2. What are the Chinese doing over there? I had programmed many embedded units and microprocessor systems, but, really, how can they mass produce units like these? Too many cooks in the soup? They are leaving their quality control to the general community.
My problem was I use my gps for bicycling, and if I place it in the support case, the proximity sensor would shut off the screen, even though I was not placing a call. The screen would blank and not come back on. I noticed there was no problem if the physical keyboard was opened and also if the unit were held horizontally. It did this all the time, regardless of the app running.
There are two sensors at the top of the unit: proximity sensor and light sensor. This is a problem with the proximity sensor, at the left.
So I just placed duct tape over it. Now it does not blank.
I have a strange problem with my desire z.
If i not have a headset plugged in my smartphone, it reacts to the proximity sensor, and it work as it should.
But if i have a headset plugged in my smartphone, it didn't react to the proximity sensor, and display is ON the whole time
For some reason it ignores the proximity sensor.
For me this is a big bug.
Display don't have to lluminate my pocket during a phone call.
It eats battery juice and one accidentally pressing buttons.
Did someone have the same problem?
It sounds like you have the same problem I do on my G2. (I keep mine in my pocket also, so it is exposed to lots of lint.) Download the app "AndroSensor" from the market to verify that the proximity sensor is or is not detecting any changes. If it isn't, then it probably has debris blocking it. What fixes it for me is to either shoot some compressed air from one of those little cans into the speaker hole towards the left side of the phone (where the proximity sensor is) to clear it out. It might also work to vacuum the speaker hole also.
It is working.
It just doesn't work with a headset plugged in.
I have found a very good app, that firstly fixes the bug, and additionally also checks after the call if phone is in the pocket, and then immediately locks phone and disables screen
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.itsme4ucz.screenoff
Works without Root.
My Settings:
Enable Device Admin X
Enable during call only X
Cover and hold to lock the screen X
Timeout 0,25
Hello,
after I spent hours with fixing my HTC Desire I wanna share how I made it!
First of all I had the problem that the screen turned of when I started a call.
I checked if the sensor is still working by using a really bright flashlight. ( I just pointed on the place where the sensor is)
The screen turned on again.
So i noticed it cant be broken cause it still responds.
I opened the whole phone (instructions from youtube) and cleaned the sensor and also the window of the sensor. (That was not the point why it was broken)
The seat for the sensor is covered by a small glassy plastic thing, and maybe it went old or whatever but I just removed this plastic thing and now all works fine again.
And for all who dont know the proximity sensor is the one which is closer to the HTC-Logo.
Maybe it helps you.
Hello all
I have replaced a broken touchscreen with the new one (bought on ebay). Everything seemed to be working fine but when I make a call or someone is calling me I see a black screen as display is turned off (just like it does when you put your smartphone to your ear).
I tested all sensors and saw that proximity sensor is always showing "0" so I can understand why display is turned off. It just thinks that it's closed by something
Can someone tell me how this could be? As I see there are 2 sensors on the one cable: Light and proximity. Light sensor is working ok, but proximity is always showing zero "0". Can someone tell me is this a common situation while replacing a touchscreen (could I just break the sensor somehow) or I might missed some details while i replaced this touchscreen?
Can I test the sensor somehow without touchscreen? (pull it off the touchscreen and try to close/open it by the hand?)
Hi guys
Since one day , my screen turns dark when having phone call or receiving phone call.
I can't type the keyboard and press the speaker button, which are inconvenient.
I have updated fw to fw_capricorn_miui_MI5S_V9.6.1.0.NAGCNFD_857fde8b41_7.0.zip
I have this issue on different roms including lineage 14 , lineage15, RR,and pixel experience .
Do anyone also have the issue and do anyone know how to solve it.?
My phone drop to ground once which cause screen crack. I am not sure whether this is the root cause.
Many thanks
The phone has on the front a proximity sensor, which is basically a small light sensor that checks if the phone is near the head or not. If it's near the head, it turns the screen of, so that you don't press any buttons while holding the phone to your ear.
I think either your sensor is broken or the crack always brings light to the sensor.

Could I disable this function?
Always disable light sensor or disable when have phone call
I had the same problem I thought the sensor was broken (you can test it with sensors test https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=asd.vector.sensor ). But it was ok, it turns out it was firmware related. When I downgraded my firmware the proximity sensor was working again...
Good Luck
