Hi,
I damages my one X in a bicycle accident a while back. It could have been worse, there is a crack in the bezel, the screen has delaminated causing the middle of the touch screen to not respond, the casing is badly damaged.
I have still been using it as it works mostly fine, but I think it's time to do something about it.
So I understand I just need to replace the lcd touch screen unit, the bezel and the housing. I can get all this off ebay for just under £100.
So the question is, do I risk doing it myself, or do I take it to a much more expensive repair shop?
Personally I think I would mess it up, but I'm only 16 so I can not really afford to pay over double. Perhaps I could buy the parts and see if I could get someone to do it for me and only charge for labour?
I don't really know, so I'd like to hear people's opinions on what I should do and people's past experiences.
Thanks

I'd find a local repair shop and ask how much they'd charge for both options, parts and labour and just labour. Then you can decide what the best option is.

I went to one, and they said they would have to carry out an inspection procedure which would cost me £20 if I chose not to do it

go somewhere else, somewhere less eager to grab your money at any opportunity.
however.
lots of people have already taken their one x's apart. there are some repair guides around as well.
i've taken phones apart before and laptops and xbox's etc, i always have that feeling that i'm gonna break something. i didn't. the key is just to be extremely careful. and read any tear down guides, watch youtube videos before actually attempting it.
make sure you use the right tools.
personally i'd do it myself. the people at the repair centre, whilst not actually repairing the phone properly, i think they replaced the screen, as they took out a small chunk of the original housing. not professional at all.
i feel that because it's yours, you'll be a lot more careful than some idiot monkey doing it for you at ridiculous cost.
I just repaired mine, and it's not that hard there are lots of guides of how to disassemble the phone on youtube.
Just get the one that suits you and do it yourself. you may need some guitar picks to pry it (medium ones do the first job then use thin ones to open the sides) U need a small screwdriver and mmm that's pretty much all the tools you need.
Get the pieces i want to change mine, just one thing. The screens they sell online are not as the original, the one with the phone is completely adhered causing a black screen appearance, the ones they sell are like grayish and have bubbles when you hard press them. since they are not heat adhered.
Good luck

You can buy a special opening tool for the case very cheaply.
I browsed all the replacement parts on ebay and emailed all the sellers asking if they were genuine htc products and exactly the same as you would get on a new phone, and I've picked the ones that said yes.
A question I have is what I got this phone, it had bad screen flex and discolouration. If I manage to pull off the repair perfectly, will it be flawless?
Thanks again
HTC One X CM10 EPRJ
Depends on the screen you get I'm afraid, word of warning : I've read that people have been asking ebay sellers if it's genuine, they answered yes. So they ordered the product and it turned out to be not genuine be careful. I'd buy from somewhere else if possible like an online shop etc, someone might be able to give advice on where from
Answer to your question is: this isn't reliant on your repairing skills, it's based on what screen you buy to replace it with.
Because you're buying new housing as well, this should be quite risk free in a way for you, cause if you damage the old screen or housing when trying to get it apart it doesn't matter much.
The screen flex (not quite sure here) might be the screen not being in the housing properly, so could be fixed from your best set of repairing hands lol

If they say it's genuine and it isn't, you can either get a refund from them or get ebay to sort it out for you.

yeah it's good to have that buyer protection, it definitely does the job. main reason i say is that i read somebody had bought screens from 7 different sellers on ebay, after they said it was genuine when it wasn't (something like that) and had to get every single one sent back and refunded. its just not worth the hassle imo
How would I know it's a genuine HTc screen?

tricky one to be honest - i guess the best way is to either try and obtain one from htc themselves, or find a reputable shop, that you've used before that sells it. i'll have a look at some point to see if i can find any anywhere. of course this is still no guarantee that it's genuine, which brings us back to square 1
If it looks genuine, has gorilla glass (you can tell if you look at it from a sharp angle) and is high quality, then who cares if it is genuine htc? It won't affect resale value

I'm not saying don't buy it, it is your choice of course, the main reason for genuine is the quality of the screen it self. Ie the colour reproduction, whether the glass was laminated properly to the lcd and if it has glue spots or yellow spots or just not a very clean finish. Or maybe the glass isn't as thin and the touch response isn't as sensitive as it used to be, also not giving the effect of the screen sorta popping out of the glass
I'm not sure if you've read this or not, this may well still be happening, but htc were using two different manufacturers for the screens, which when put side by side (you wouldn't notice otherwise) they had different colours just slightly, like one had a warmer colour, like not quite bright white but more yellowish I think it was. And they were the genuine ones (this doesn't help my argument I know) my point is though, if the genuine ones were like that, imagine just how bad they can be when not genuine
I haven't had to experience it myself, I don't know if these screens really are that much worse than genuine ones, but everything I've read suggested that they are worse, don't say I didn't warn ya! I wish you luck with it though, do let us know how the replacement goes etc

ok so I managed to crack the screen..nice big shatter mark under the screen and now the entire screen went black...insurance is a pain and from what I understand getting Asurion to replace my vibrant will be $130 and buying an AMOLED screen itself is cheaper.
The rest of the phone is still in working condition as before my screen went totally black after it broke some of it was still functional.
Any idea on where I can get the screen? I have not had luck on ebay as of yet, and was hoping someone here could recco a reputable vendor...

I cracked my screen also. I found that site after I put in the claim. So I figured what the hell and started taking it apart, for next time.
It isn't easy! I'm pretty nerdy and good with my hands. Be very careful and very patient. There are small parts and wires that can very easily break.

Have you had any luck with this?I own an Orange San Francisco and cracked the amoled, unfortunately orange or any other site/company offers any repair AFAIK. I'm looking into repairing it myself, are amoled connectors compatible from one phone to another or are they manufacturer specific if you are aware of? I know this is a long shot but it doesn't hurt asking.

it would most likely have to be the same part
because the Galaxy S series are the only ones with that size AMOLED screen.
been there done that
i got a vibrant off of something awful for pretty cheap with a broken screen
first off you literally have to pry the screen off of the phone
and the bottom four buttons? there is a very thin ribbon cable that is glued to the screen
there are a few things youll need
1.really small screw driver (i got a glasses repair kit from the dollar store. worked great)
2.something to pry the screen off (used a screw driver from said kit)
3.balls. that ribbon cable is very very easy to break
first off you have to take apart the phone completely
i would even take off the one board that the screen connects to
then you need to pry off the screen very carefully
if your amold or whatever part is broken you're going to have to peel it off
it really sucks and makes you look like a bad 70s disco
after that it gets pretty simple
make sure you have something to hold the top and bottom part to the phone
mine isnt flush due to me being a jackass and not getting the right glue stuff to hold it down
after that it should work perfect like before
if anyone wants to trade me a new screen for the i9000 screen or buy me a screen (lol) i would make a very detailed video (not happy with the way the first attempt turned out)
post itt or pm me if you have any questions
So you are saying it should work, but what about the software part, won't there be any problems?

will the international galaxy s screen work for vibrant they hace same shape compared to captivate. And I9000s screen is cheaper than T959 screen (based on ebay price)
Well, today was a say day for me, for I dropped my HOX on some concrete and shattered the glass, phone still works and lcd isn't damaged... but I was wondering if theres anyone here who knows a decent repair centers in the UK, i've seen this http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/2511...ixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla&crdt=0 and i'm pretty sure thats all I need... I could even try myself
Perhsps HTC can sell us an original part, we could also ask for s one x+ battery. I don't know how much the one x digitisee and glass replacement would cost. The whole svren inc LCD is 160 IIRC so probably less than 100?
I also.have a damaged screen. My concern is whether the. Parts are really originals as claimed, be cause I'd like a real gorilla glass panel. Also, how do I reconnect the connectors I have to unplug to get the screen . Presumably it's obvious otherwise it would have been mentioned in repair guides.
HTC may repair and sell originals, how much for I don't know.
My LCD appears fine usually, but sometimes there is a yellow tint to some of the screen, presumably related to epoxy glue. Also I was pressing down on the Screen and now one of the cracks appear slightly blue Around the edges, not sure if this will change if I replace.
Finally I saw a story on xdA I think of a guy who Bricked his while trying to replace the screen.

From what I have seen in One X screen replacement videos and read in this and other forums the digitizer is not easily separable from the LCD. So most probably you'll have to replace the whole display assembly (i.e digitizer + LCD screen).
Nope
None of the replacement parts in this thread so far are close to genuine, and will be cheap crap.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320929331645?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
This is what a genuine replacement looks like, and costs. If it's under £100, forget it; it's crap. If it comes as separate parts, it's crap. The One X screen is bonded at the factory across the entire area of the screen - you will never get a good screen if you assemble it yourself, or even if a repair centre does it. You'll get an air gap between the LCD and digitizer, and therefore it will look awful in daylight.

Yeah I since found out that's the part I need after reading the iFixit guide.
I'm not sure exactly how I did it, I've dropped it once and although it was in a case, the impact must have been enough to crack the plastic.
The fix doesn't look too hard actually. Hardest part is warming up the glue holding the speaker grilles. Rest is simple guitar pick prising apart.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Chris, That sucks. I dropped my phone the 3rd day I had it, without a case on and the only thing that happened is some very small scratches on the edge bezel. I would have never noticed them if I hadn't have been building a model (hobby) and was painting with my detail magnification glasses on and my phone rang. I looked at iFixit before I decided on the M8 because this is the first phone without a removable battery and I wanted to know how hard it would be to open it up and replace stuff. They make is sound so hard but I think it doesn't look that hard after getting the glue soft.
Good luck and let us know how the repair goes. :good:
I stupidly cracked my screen and took it to my local fix it guy. He wasn't familiar with the tab but did several other Samsung tabs. He said I had to order the LCD along with the screen which didn't sound right. He said the screen is glued to the LCD and is very difficult to remove without breaking. I've only personally fixed ipads so im not familiar with the inner workings of Samsung tabs but from what I see all I need is the screen and digitizer. Tablet works perfectly fine. Buying an LCD will be a lot more expensive than the $70 screen replacement. I went back and asked his assistant which gave me the impression he know anything, since the screen is amaloid is there an LCD? If the tab works do I need an LCD as well??
AMOLED screens are a large group of single LEDs. There is no liquid crystal portion. It is possible to replace the glass by itself but it's extremely hard. Most places do it the way you listed and buy them as one piece. It requires a heat gun and lots of patience to change just the glass and it's not unheard of to break the screen or digitizer in the process of removing the old glass. Look it up on YouTube and you'll see what I'm talking about. The screen digitizer and glass are made into a single piece to keep it thin. Makes it more expensive when you need to fix it but they are MUCH better screens than LCD as far as blacks and power usage.

Damn it he actually knew what he was talking about. This is the first screen i ever broke and of course it has to be the most difficult. Saw a LCD screen combo for $260 but I'm just gonna give him extra to try and save the current LCD. Thanks for the info
I just watched the video it didn't look too difficult it was actually separated in 2 minutes in the video. After Applying heat it separated rather easily. An experienced person shouldn't have a problem.

The glass being glued to the screen has nothing to do with it being AMOLED. Several non-AMOLED tablets and phones (e.g. iDevices) have glued screen, digitizer, and glass all into one piece. The reason is to make the device thinner, lighter, and most importantly, cheaper to manufacture.
A heat gun will melt the glue and you can then take it apart, but yes, it's hard and you'll likely break it.
It might be removable if careful but gluing them back together will be difficult without introducing air bubbles or getting the glue in the wrong place.
I would send it to samsung, you may be suprised and cost less than you think.
I smashed the screen, damaged the metal housing and speakers on my HTC ONE M8 within 2 weeks of buying it. I sent it to htc and they completely fixed it in a week and looked like new.
The total cost of the complete repair including 2 way shipping was actually way less than the total cost of just the replaced parts if id have bought them myself. It cost me £103 in total for everything to be good as new and that was a phone that was supposedly almost impossible to repair.
Maybe Samsung might be as generous?

Just called Samsung and they quoted me $200 with free shipping to and from. Which is excellent because that's cheaper than I've seen for an LCD and screen. These are my options so
1. $25 for screen and $50 labor for local guy to fix with no guarantee he won't break LCD then I'll be back to square 1
2. $199 send to Samsung guaranteed to work like new when I get it back.
#2 seems like the smarter choice.

Your absolutely right, OEM is always better.
Hi i just bought a Oneplus 3 but the glass is cracked and have read that you cant just replace the glass itself because its too difficult and would have to replace the whole display.
Has any one done this and found the replacement display to be worse than the original?
Also there are tutorials on Samsungs S7 edge which show how to replace just the glass, would this method work on Oneplus 3? VIDEO LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAdF_hNh358
If you are not experienced with these things, DO NOT attempt replacing such an expensive part yourself as you may damage your whole device. If you like to live dangerously and don't give a fuk to money or damaged phone, this could be a great DIY product.
it's pretty hard, but really isn't impossible if you're experienced. working on my own repair shop, replaced few just the glass, but few also cracked during frame removal (as of hard as stone glue)

Idk about you, but this phone is extremely easy to repair. I've taken this thing apart and its fairly simple. Now when it comes to only glass repairs, that's another story. Without dry ice its near impossible and with dry ice its still somewhat dangerous as the AMOLED panel is fragile as all hell. If you're going to do a glass only repair, do not do like that video shows, it is extremely hard to do with heat, freezing the display completely with dry ice is the way to go.
To answer the OP's question, no one knows. Oneplus does not sell replacement parts so the screens are NOT OEM, but they're probably of similar quality. Why not try it out and see?
haha thanks guys i thought it would be easy just to pull the glass off, i have seen a video on dry ice glass removal but if you guys are saying its near impossible ill just have to buy the replacement LCD off ebay

Well with dry ice its not too hard, you just have to be extremely patient and always keep the glass and adhesive at extreme temperatures. If you're the type of person that's really good at taking things apart and are very delicate with your hands, do the dry ice method. If not buy the LCD (I really hope these aftermarket screens are not actual LCDs) because you will probably break the screen
Have u done the dry ice method?
also i think it has the original screen with cracked glass but i think the Chinese replacement is lower quality but i dont know how bad it is and i am pretty sure their not amoled displays.
There are some web stores such as parts4repair that claim to sell OLED replacement screens for the OP3, though at a much higher price than the Ebay ones of course.

Well as i had never ever attempted to repair my costly smarphones with the fear of breaking them, all i could give was cautious warning.
I trust your words when you say its easy to repair. Seems like you have good experience with these things!

Some phones are quite hard and don't fit together well after taking them apart (galaxy S6 was just stupid) and then there's the OP3, take 2 screws out and pop the entire chassis out of the aluminum back, you can get to the screen pretty easily after and nothing is glued in place with indestructible glue
can one one confirm that parts4repair have amoled displays?
also if i were to do the dry ice method would i need to use uv loca glue before using new glass

There are some web stores such as parts4repair that claim to sell OLED replacement screens for the OP3, though at a much higher price than the Ebay ones of course.

wait a second. so you're saying that there isn't any original display on ebay? i'm also in the same situation as OP, even worse as i removed the display completely. i wanted to get a new one from ebay or aliexpress this weekend, but now i''m a bit worried. also, i noticed that there's the US and the EU version. Does the connector match? cheers

There might be, you can't be certain though. If you bought a complete replacement unit for less then $100 USD, it's likely just a cheap LCD panel. There is allegedly a small difference in the cable length for the screen component between the A3000 and A3003 models of the phone. The connector, and physical dimensions of the screens should be identical though.

No none of them are original... You most likely will get a really cheap non oled display. Don't be surprised if the screen cracks in your pocket.. I already have replaced it once on my old phone and I got a fake one and it littery cracked in my pocket.. Thats why I suggest you guys trying to send it to Oneplus first.
I just had my op3 repaired for a cracked screen and aluminum back panel was well. It wouldn't display any picture. Also my volume key was damagedd from the drop so they had to replace the entire back aluminum panel. I could swear the phone is brand new they did a fabulous job. The authorized repair center is in Texas it's Acer repair facility that also did one plus devices for warranty and out of warranty repairs. It's was extremely cheap compared to buying parts yourself. The cheapest I could find for the screen on eBay was asking$115-$120 and who knows the quality. This is original parts at this place. $130 for everything including shipping. The screen would have only been $95 but the extra aluminum back cost me the extra. They also sent a clear thin case with it too free of charge and I actually love the case. It's well worth just sending to one plus and having it fixed right with original parts. Also keep in mind they have a warranty on their repairs. I am extremely happy with the job they did.

I got in touch with Oneplus and told them the phone is second hand and they asked for the IMEI number. They told me that it would cost 87 euros £76 for me and this includes repair of phone and parts including VAT. But they did say that if there were further problems they would fix them but this would be added to the bill.
+1 for sending it into Oneplus, i am sending mine to a authorized repair centre CTDI in poland, so i know that the parts are gonna be original and not a cheap LCD display.

Good deal yeah its worth the wait to have it done right. Although it is tough to get by without it for a few weeks.?
I'm also sending mine. I got in touch with oneplus and they said the aproximate cost is 91€. Cheaper than getting a fake lcd from amazon. Cheers
