Shattered Glass

Well, today was a say day for me, for I dropped my HOX on some concrete and shattered the glass, phone still works and lcd isn't damaged... but I was wondering if theres anyone here who knows a decent repair centers in the UK, i've seen this http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/2511...ixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla&crdt=0 and i'm pretty sure thats all I need... Perhsps HTC can sell us an original part, we could also ask for s one x+ battery. I don't know how much the one x digitisee and glass replacement would cost. The whole svren inc LCD is 160 IIRC so probably less than 100?
I also.have a damaged screen. My concern is whether the. Parts are really originals as claimed, be cause I'd like a real gorilla glass panel. Also, how do I reconnect the connectors I have to unplug to get the screen . Presumably it's obvious otherwise it would have been mentioned in repair guides.
HTC may repair and sell originals, how much for I don't know.
My LCD appears fine usually, but sometimes there is a yellow tint to some of the screen, presumably related to epoxy glue. Also I was pressing down on the Screen and now one of the cracks appear slightly blue Around the edges, not sure if this will change if I replace.
Finally I saw a story on xdA I think of a guy who Bricked his while trying to replace the screen.

From what I have seen in One X screen replacement videos and read in this and other forums the digitizer is not easily separable from the LCD. So most probably you'll have to replace the whole display assembly (i.e digitizer + LCD screen).

This is what a genuine replacement looks like, and costs. If it's under £100, forget it; it's crap. If it comes as separate parts, it's crap. The One X screen is bonded at the factory across the entire area of the screen - you will never get a good screen if you assemble it yourself, or even if a repair centre does it. You'll get an air gap between the LCD and digitizer, and therefore it will look awful in daylight.

Call up HTC. I've done some research, seems to agree with what is posted above.

I feel your pain.. I have a small crack on the side of my S3 screen. How bad is it? If its smalland on the side check out an overlay Luke by Spectre. They are about 4mm thick and are cut to cover the whole face of the screen

Screen replacement 10.5 ??

I stupidly cracked my screen and took it to my local fix it guy. He wasn't familiar with the tab but did several other Samsung tabs. He said I had to order the LCD along with the screen which didn't sound right. He said the screen is glued to the LCD and is very difficult to remove without breaking. I've only personally fixed ipads so im not familiar with the inner workings of Samsung tabs but from what I see all I need is the screen and digitizer. Tablet works perfectly fine. Buying an LCD will be a lot more expensive than the $70 screen replacement. I went back and asked his assistant which gave me the impression he know anything, since the screen is amaloid is there an LCD? If the tab works do I need an LCD as well??

AMOLED screens are a large group of single LEDs. There is no liquid crystal portion. It is possible to replace the glass by itself but it's extremely hard. Most places do it the way you listed and buy them as one piece. It requires a heat gun and lots of patience to change just the glass and it's not unheard of to break the screen or digitizer in the process of removing the old glass. Look it up on YouTube and you'll see what I'm talking about. The screen digitizer and glass are made into a single piece to keep it thin. Makes it more expensive when you need to fix it but they are MUCH better screens than LCD as far as blacks and power usage.

Damn it he actually knew what he was talking about. This is the first screen i ever broke and of course it has to be the most difficult. Saw a LCD screen combo for $260 but I'm just gonna give him extra to try and save the current LCD. Thanks for the info
I just watched the video it didn't look too difficult it was actually separated in 2 minutes in the video. After Applying heat it separated rather easily. An experienced person shouldn't have a problem.

The glass being glued to the screen has nothing to do with it being AMOLED. Several non-AMOLED tablets and phones (e.g. iDevices) have glued screen, digitizer, and glass all into one piece. The reason is to make the device thinner, lighter, and most importantly, cheaper to manufacture.
A heat gun will melt the glue and you can then take it apart, but yes, it's hard and you'll likely break it.

It might be removable if careful but gluing them back together will be difficult without introducing air bubbles or getting the glue in the wrong place.
I would send it to samsung, you may be suprised and cost less than you think.
I smashed the screen, damaged the metal housing and speakers on my HTC ONE M8 within 2 weeks of buying it. I sent it to htc and they completely fixed it in a week and looked like new.
The total cost of the complete repair including 2 way shipping was actually way less than the total cost of just the replaced parts if id have bought them myself. It cost me £103 in total for everything to be good as new and that was a phone that was supposedly almost impossible to repair.
Maybe Samsung might be as generous?

Just called Samsung and they quoted me $200 with free shipping to and from. Which is excellent because that's cheaper than I've seen for an LCD and screen. These are my options so
1. $25 for screen and $50 labor for local guy to fix with no guarantee he won't break LCD then I'll be back to square 1
2. $199 send to Samsung guaranteed to work like new when I get it back.
#2 seems like the smarter choice.

Not only that, but quite often these cheaper non genuine screens have problems. Plus you'll have some of warranty for the work.

I don't know. Perhaps someone else on the forum has that information. I think they sell original screens but it's best you contact the sellers directly before ordering.

Any update since October? I`m facing the same issue. I have googled a bit and found some complaints related to LCDs from Aliexpress claiming that they are no so bright and blurry, sometimes with white spots.
I have also find only a glass replacement https://www.aliexpress.com/item/5-7...lgo_pvid=aec8908f-0e28-4202-a650-ab20f3981970

If you can get the fast delivery, then you can give it a go. Although it's a risky operation,it might be alright in the end. The service should have some experience if they say that for other brands/phones they have succeeded. It might be ok, but always keep in mind that something might go wrong. And it's not worth waiting 2 months for the glass and another 2 for the display.
Edit: you can google the process and you will see how it's done for other phones. They need to have special devices.

I`ll write a review after the whole process is done for future reference

Very difficult. They make it look easy on youtube. I attempted a glass only repair on a nexus 6. You have to have correct amount of heat, and the LCD is very fragile. Too much heat will damage the display, but you need enough heat to soften the loca glue to be able to separate the glass from the lcd.. I even had a scientific dry bath at my disposal to get the right temp.. Not worth a home repair attempt IMO.
Cost of the le max 2 is just the reason I bought this phone (vs a $600+ device) and put on tempered glass from Ali express for less than $2. Will you consider replacing your phone for $200?
My wife broke her tempered glass protector twice on the max 2. Easy fix, just replaced the tempered glass cover. I'm just saying I learned the hard way, on a more expensive Nexus 6. I wasn't aware of tempered glass protectors then. Even after destroying my lcd (by trying a glass-only repair) and ending up buying the lcd+glass assembly, I still didn't get the phone's frame tight with the display assembly to make it acceptable.

I tried to repair lcd once for another phone. It took me 1h just to disassemble the phone, and half an hour more to try to carefully separate lcd from digitizer. I failed and then there was no point spending another hour puting the phone back together and had to throw all those tiny parts to the garbage. Think about this before you try.

Home repairs of such kind are a no go. This is why I encourage him to go to the repair shop where they do that kind of repairs to the screen. They do have a special heated plate with temperature adjustment, a vacuum device that eliminates any bubbles between the lcd and glass, etc. Also do note that not all the repair shops are doing this. Most of them are collecting phones for the specialized shops and charge an extra fee.
In conclusion, this kind of repair is not for everybody, and it would be best done in a specialized repair shop. For reference, check the following video:
I know it's written in romanian and for an Allview, but I guess that most of the things are understandable to get the idea of how complicated the whole process is for any home attempt.

So, after a month in repair center I have my phone back. The screen is an original one with digitizer changed. Between digitizer and screen there are some bubbles, buttons are switched, like back is on a left instead of right and the bugged issue... They are very undeterministic and do not always work and sometimes they work without even touching so... Apps are switching and so on... I needed to disable them and use gestures instead.
The repair was about 40USD and digitizer 15 USD... It is hard to say whether it was worth it or exchange the complete screen.

Replacing the screen + digitiser on this model is pretty easy provided you have access to a hot air gun. Took me about 15 minutes and I'm in NO WAY a pro. For the price of a new screen I definitely wouldn't attempt a digitizer-only repair.

And I can say, It's same as the original one in every detail(Even production date so close). Replacement is very easy with tool that came with screen.
BTW, You have to buy glue(B6000,E7000,T8000 or whatver) for fix it in place.

Has anybody got a reliable source? There seems to be a global shortage of these bloody screens and besides the official Lenovo replacement costing 90% of the price of the phone, there are no other options available anywhere. Nothing on AliExpress, BangGood, Alibaba, eBay and anywhere else in my coutry.

+1. Cracked my screen last week, still fully functional but crack pattern is expanding and I don't trust it to be usable for a long time to come.
Been searching for replacement screen assembly but found nothing. Going to try contacting Lenovo technical support in my country now...

Lenovo tech support pointed me to a repair firm.
Repair firm asks to send the phone in, after which they provide a quote. If I don't agree to get it fixed, I have to pay a few tens for problem analysis. Like wtf, it's a cracked screen, you change it, it's a standard job with a standard cost that you can give me before I send it in!
Called another repair firm. They can't get the screen.
Apparently these screens are just not available.

Expensive as hell though, considering you can get a new P2 for 180 euro's or a new screen for 160.

Seems like nowhere.
The order I made on aliexpress was subsequently cancelled because of it being "out of stock".
Options at this point seem limited to:
1. get it fixed for stupid money (not even sure whether any fixing service can get their hands on it)
2. try to locate a damaged second-hand phone with working screen you can buy for less
3. if your LCD and touch input still work fine like mine, just put up with it and wait for some months until people start upgrading and the asking prices for second-hand models start to drop
4. meanwhile, search on aliexpress or ebay every single day and hope a screen gets available for an acceptable price

I dropped my phone yesterday and the screen shattered from end to the other but the phone is working fine. I have just ordered the replacement front glass off of ebay for £19.99 from HK but seems a bit too cheap to me but worth a gamble at that price. Only problem is I have no idea how to take the phone apart and separate the glass from the digitizer! Are there instructions about I could follow or is my best bet taking it to a mobile phone repair shop to get it done?
I can post the ebay number if anyone is interested.

Its just the glass and not touch digitiser which costs₹10500.

Have you got instructions on how to take the phone apart and separate the glass from the digitizer? The last part is what i'm worried is going to be extremely difficult?!

You tube. Check the entire display removal tutorial. Then check glass replacement tutorial for galaxy s8.
After taking off display, you have to chip off the glass from display after heating it with a hot air gun. Then remove the residual UV glue from panel. Then after making sure panel is clean, apply new UV glue on center, then place glass on top and then press from center gently to spread the glue evenly and that's it.

Thank you but i'm never going to manage to do that myself, I don't own a hot air gun for a start. Looks like i've wasted £20 plus the postage as I doubt i'll find a mobile phone repair shop to do it for me, i'd happily pay someone to do it if I could find someone!

Replacement Parts

If and when anyone replace any parts on this phone, like a screen, digitizer, frame or just anything, please share your experience here, thanks!

As I understand it, the original water resistance won't be relevant after tear-apart. Some impervious will be lost. The disassembly is more involved than most, in the past. I, myself, may be looking at getting a better phone via trade-in. Gone are the days, for the most part, of servicing the phone for a battery, to keep things going. I'll still monitor the posts about the phone, but things have gotten to where 'root' isn't much of a benefit anymore.

I'm in the process of getting a new screen, a frame and a battery. Right now the cost for the screen, digitizer and frame is around $175. Batter $7. There's pretty good instructions out there, so shouldn't be a problem.

Beware 'cheap' prices! Potential bad fit/poor adhesion. If they have a good return policy, go for it, otherwise, next company.

broken glass v40
Hi guys, how do i know if i have to replace a glass or the full lcd + digitalizer? my daughter dropped my phone. It works perfectly but the glass is broken and i dont want to spend 150USD.

If the image under the glass is broken and the touch panel is NOT then you only need an LCD.
If the top touch panel or (glass top) is cracked or broken but the image under it is fine then you only need the Touch Panel (relatively cheap).
If the top touch panel is broken and the lcd image is either black liquid or cracked you need a complete screen.
To be honest it's probably easier to get the combined parts to avoid having to separate LCD from digitizer and risk a failure. Since the digitizer is fused to the LCD you would need some special tools to remove the digitizer to ensure success. Separating the assembly with heatguns, etc. isn't that easy.
My advice: invest in replacing the complete assembly to ensure success.

Positively surprised
The Akcoo "doomglass" fits perfectly and I struggle really hard to even see my cracked screen underneath. Remember, this was $3.50 on Aliexpress! Will still go for a new screen later though. I'll keep you posted regarding the quality of the screen protector...

Nice! These protectors with the UV glue are the only ones that work good on curved screens, had one on my V30, but now need it for my V40. The source I was going to use is currently away for Chinese New Years.. May I ask how long it took to ship to you?

Screen price is down to $121 now, but I'll wait a bit longer

Old thread but you can find demo models on eBay for around $70. Just use the original charge port flex. Then you get the cameras and a new (used) battery too
