[Q] Deleted Apex, now device will not boot - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

The issue: I made the mistake of upgrading Apex today. I wanted to go back to 1.2.5, so I deleted the new Apex thinking I could just reinstall the old version from an apk. However, I think I may have frozen a necessary component for touchwiz (with chef's freezer), because when I deleted Apex and rebooted, I found my screen won't get passed the glowing Samsung logo.
So I want to restore a backup, but I don't seem to have the option. I created a nandroid a week or so ago. I'm trying to boot to it, but my recovery screen gives me only these options: 1) reboot system now; 2) apply update from external storage; 3) wipe data/factory reset; 4) wipe cache partition; 5) apply update from cache. Where is restore backup??!
I just connected with Odin and flashed clockwork on there again just to be sure, but I still don't have backup or restore as options. Please help!!

What version of cwm recovery did you push through Odin?

[Q] can't run any new rom, hangs at white htc incredible screen on boot

I rooted the incredible using unrevoked, no problem.
Installed and ran root apps, no problem, backed up everything using titanium backup and rom manager (nandroid) and so forth, installed cw recovery 3.0.0.8.
When I install the skyraider 4 rom from rom manager, it reboots and installs, but then when it reboots again it hangs at the white htc incredible screen (and I've let it wait as long as a half an hour). I have to take out the battery to be able to reboot it.
I can boot back to recovery and then re-install and boot back to the stock rooted rom just fine. But I can't get a new rom installed and working.
I've looked at previous threads about this problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038402
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1023358
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991953
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739646
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=620621
and several other threads on other sites.
The only suggestions to come out of those, other that starting over from scratch (which I've done multiple times now), were to reformat the sd card, which I've also done, and to downgrade to cm recovery 2.5.1.2. Rom manager only shows versions as old as 3.0.0.5. I have put the PB31IMG.zip file on the sd card and loaded that before to help recover but I don't see how that helps with installing a new rom.
Any other suggestions? The main reason I even need a new rom is because bluetooth doesn't work in the stock rom (known issue: http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/91/p/2336/8570.aspx )
It sounds like you are not wiping cache and Davlik (in advanced). The constant reboot of the white screen is a classic symptom of not performing a cache and Davlik wipe

appreciate your help, yeah I've been doing that everytime in rom manager. I tried it several times manually in cm recovery, too, and still the white screen.
I'll just see if verizon can exchange it, or else I'll sell it for another phone with working bluetooth.
Might try reverting to the 2.5.1.2 recovery as I've heard the 3.x.x.x ones don't wipe consistently.

.
There is a flash of CWM 2.5 that temporarily lets you use that to flash the rom then when you reboot it will revert back. Try that.

[Q] Clockwork recovery image missing sd-ext

Here's the deal. I got a new 16GB sd card, copied everything over (including hidden files) and it worked fine for about two hours. Then the screen went black but the LED and soft buttons stayed lit. I did a Clockwork recovery (with a version that I've used successfully before) but it couldn't find SD-EXT so it would boot up to the red Droid "eye" thing (right before loading the homescreen) and then just keep showing that animation.
So I put the old card back in, tried again, and it still couldn't find the SD-EXT file so I've got a phone now which is stuck at this animation.
My question is, can I just boot into Clockwork and install Cyanogen (because I couldn't find a DINC custom recovery file anywhere) from a zip on the SD and have everything start working again? Don't want to mess it up more than it already is.
Unless you have made an SD-EXT partition, it will give that "error" in recovery. Its not actually messing anything up. I'm not sure why its bootlooping but you can try wiping data and cache then reboot or you can download a zip from www.dougpiston.com to take your phone back to stock.

I actually discovered that in further research after I posted.
Clearing the cache was a no-go so of DP's site should I go with PB31IMG or with one of his recovery images? I'm think of going with the one with CWM 2.5 on it.
I would try either doing a complete wipe and reflash of whatever rom you choose or you can use the PB31IMG.zip to get back to stock and flash a rom from there. Make sure you're doing a complete wipe as well (wipe data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache) and do it manually in recovery, not with rom manager.

[Q] [ROM] wajkiui stuck in boot loop.

i ran a titanium backup on my motorola defy whilst running CM7 2.3.7.
the backup was a user apps, systems apps and user data (for those firmiliar with titanium backup)
i then booted into recovery.
> wiped data/factory reset,
> install zip file from sd card
> chose and then flashed WajkIUI 1.10.8
it then booted up and then i then put the phone back into recovery mode and then flashed the google apps 2.3.5 package and that was too successful.
i then booted the phone up and once again it booted up fine.
i then installed titanium backup from the market, then restored all that i'd backed up previously. This once again was successful. I then continued my using my phone as usual. Then i thought too reboot because i was having problems with the theme manager allowing me to change lockscreens, so i rebooted.
It then went into a continuos boot loop and it allows me to go into CWM still and the stock android recovery whilst also allowing me to go into the stock Bootloader.
but i really like the rom but this constant loop annoys me,
how can i fix this without loosing data?...
I think the problem was restoring system apps from a rom to anoter, think you'll have to install your rom again and only restore apps (not sure if restoring data would or not be a problem)
oh, so you suggest i just do a user apps+data back up instead of doing a system backup using CM7,
okay i'll try this out and get back to you thanks .
Sent from my MB525 running CM7.1 2.3.7
wait, but wouldnt i lose all my contacts, text messages, email syncs, wifi settings etc.?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
no, this stuff you mentioned is user data, that will come along on a data restore, just try to restore only apps and data, leave system apps off.
WajkIUI doesn't require gapps to be flashed from recovery, so you can skip this step next time, maybe that was the problem (i am not sure, never flashed gapps for WajkIUI)
oh, okay i'll try this method then i'll get back with the results

Operations with data failing! Bricked!?

Hi! Today I got semi-bricked Note II. I flashed WanamLite 2.0 and afther that I restored my appz through titanium backup. I played games 20 min, my phone is suddenly rebooted. Now I cant restore my nandroid backup, it success restore /system, but when it start to restore data - recovery shutdown! Same if I try to wipe data - wiping... black screen and reboot. After that I see Samsung Galaxy Note II and Samsung ROM bootanimation. And it stuck. (

Now phone booted from nandroid backup successfully and without troubles, recovering boot and system successful. Restoring /data ... black screen. Reboot. But when I try to wipe data my recovery turns off. Ofc it didnt wipe it. Also I tried PhilZ and Chenglu recovery and same results.
Whats problem? What I need to flash to restore /data partition? Where I can download Rescue ROM or 3-file (PDA PHONE CSC) stock firmware? Will it help? Thx!

I'm experiencing this issue as well.
CWM keeps rebooting whenever i select "wipe data/factory reset"
I've tried re-flashing a stock rom in ODIN with the PIT file which allows me to boot the phone but it is missing apps like Play Store. After flashing a stock rom, I've tried flashing CWM via ODIN to wipe but the same problem of reboot on wipe data still persist.
I've also tried superwipe script and the factory reset from Settings but the phone hangs in all cases.

tried that but Play Store force closes when I try to verify account.

So there is no way to fix it? Why it persists? Please!
I tried to google this problem. I surfing but I couldn't find some results which can help me and guy who tried to help me.
I think it depends not only the software, it can be hardware failure.
hihi, i'm not sure if u had the exact same problem as me. but i accidently managed to fix it.
1. Go to Download mode.
2. Use PC Odin to flash Stock 4.1.2 (PDA slot) + PIT file(PIT slot)(Check re-partition box) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696.
3. Phone reboot into stock rom
4. Switch off the phone
5. Hold power + home + up to enter stock android recovery (3e)
6. Wipe data/factory reset. (somehow the data wipe works in stock android recovery, dont ask me why)
7. Reboot phone
8. Switch off phone and enter download mode
9. Use ODIN to flash CWM tar
After that you can enter CWM and shud be able to wipe as normal. Den you can flash any custom rom that you like as before.
This was how I managed to fixed my phone. try at your risk

CM10 bootloop

I am new to rooting and rom'ing. I was able to root my Hercules using clockwork 6.0 and was in the process of installing cm10 and it froze up, and after i rebooted it got stuck in a boot loop. I did do a back up of my stock rom and have gotten it to factory reset back to astock rooted rom, not sure if it is my backup stock rom. The process that I read to rom it is to install darkside wipe, then cm10, then gapps. I have wiped data, cache and davlik cache, i am trying to get it to install cm10, but it doesn't seem to want to install. what should i do to get it to start over and get cm10 rom on?
I would only use the Darkside wipe scripts on CWM 5.X. Use Odin to reflash the recovery of your choice and then format system, factory reset, and then flash CM10.

Thanks, I didn't know that, guess the instruction i found were a little outdated. I'll try your suggestion. What do mean by formattin it? (I thought the factory reset does that?) Also how long should it take for cm10 to install?

Formatting the system only formats the /system partition and wipe data formats the /data partition.
What do you mean?

I would have made a backup of the stock rom then from the stock rom downloaded goomanager from play store then flash newest twrp recovery, then wiped and installed a appropriate ROM

You missed /System as well [hence why the stock ROM booted again otherwise if you actually formatted where the ROM was there is no backup ROM.
You should move to Jellybean [I have used ParanoidAndroid as a daily druver for months now and it is newer [Android 4.1.2].,
No matter which ROM you choose, first boot phone
download ROM Manager [Free is fine]
Open it, grant Super User
Tap top-most option to install Clockwork Recovery and it will walk you through getting etiher the non-touch for free or paying $2 for touch recovery [unless you flashed that via Odin then skip], but need to be sure you have newest CWM and not an old one from a rooting guide that been around.
Boot to recovery wi[e cache
tap advanced wipe dalvick
go back one menu
go to mounts and storage tap to wipe system, and data
go back one menu to main
tap install zip from SDCard
Tap internatl or external wherver you saved it and find the CM 10 you downloaded and tap and flash it
do the same but find where you saved the gapps pack
now restart device and enjoy
continual boot loop...tried everything here.

I got cm10 on for about 20 minutes then CWM updated to 6.x. I flashed a nightly and it's been in a bootloop ever since. However, when I was on CM10 those few brief minutes I could not hear or he heard on a call.
No idea what to do now. I'm stuck on 2.3.6 unless there's some other trick I can do to get this thing to boot...
Why not just try a different rom? Lots of options out there.
Also, watch the dates on the how to's you read. A lot can be outdated.
