I was rooted and running a 2.2 rom and wanted to install the damagecontrol 3.2 rom, which, as I understand it, requires NAND to be unlocked. I downloaded Simple Root and tried to unlock NAND.
When I turn on the phone I get stuck in a boot loop.
I try the recovery console. It takes a few minutes to load PC36diag.zip, the update for NAND which I already installed.
When I say no to the update and no to restarting I get into the menu, but if I try RECOVERY it loads the phone with the exclamation point, but I am unable to connect using the adb batch file I have always used before.
Also, when I try HBOOT USB the drivers aren't able to be installed. The device is read as "Android 1.0".
Can someone please help me?

Bootloop means you need to do a full wipe.
First thing's first, delete the PC36IMG.zip file from your SD. Then when you get the image of a phone with an exclamation mark, hold down the power and volume up key to get into recovery.
As for the last bit, I'm sorta' confused what you're problem is.
Part of my problem is that I can't delete the file from the SD card. Can't get into the OS and can't turn on USB.
Something similar happened to me. For me, instead of booting Damage Control, I switched it to Fresh and booted Fresh v3.0 and it worked and booted. Then I unlocked the Nand and made a nandroid. Then whipped everything 2 times and booted DC and it worked fine after that.

You can get in to usb and put fresh on there by going to recovery mode and selecting one of the options that says USB, i can't remember the exact wording.
Added: I just checked it's called "USB-MS toggle"

When you get the exclamation mark screen, hold down the Power and Volume Down key. Once in recovery mode, select the USB-MS Toggle feature, this mounts your SD card yto your PC. You should then be able to access the root of your SD card via the Removable Disk icon on your computer.
It wouldn't let me load USB from the console/whatever either... Another weird driver issue.
But after several more hard battery pulls I let it try again to boot and it showed me the "HTC, quietly brilliant" boot screen, which was different that what it had before.. I let it load and now I'm in android, but it says my SD card is removed.
Is this a part of the process necessary to unlock NAND?... Do I have NAND?

Check and see if your USB connection is in Charge Only or Disk Drive mode.

no. You make your nand back up when you are in recovery mode and you select nand back up and it backs up everything. You'll need to follow through with the rest of the Nand unlocking instructions.
Did you download and follow the steps of the flash_image and mtg-eng.img etc etc...? Then the rest of the steps?
That's the first thing I tried to do when android loaded. It's not even an option. It says I removed my SD card.
I restarted, denied the update to get through to recovery, and I still can't connect with adb -it shows "Unknown Device" in the device manager.

are you connected with charge only? try hot sync (you need to install the program, which include drivers. this is on the htc website)
Mine worked for hot sync but not charge only
Looks like you may need to run through this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
I've been reading that post.
When I select fastboot, it gives me other options.
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
powerdown
If I select bootloader it takes me back to the main menu, if I select reboot, I get back to android and still do not have access to my SD card, so I can't get out of the debugging rom, or whatever it is.
I put another SD card in, so I don't have to wait on the update.zip to be read every single reboot, but that's all it did.
Am I doing something wrong?
Don't know then... sorry. You can try starting over from the beginning?
Best of luck.
FML.
Someone? I'm totally stuck.
And my phone says the the charger isn't delivering sufficient voltage... and I'm down to 8%.
HEEELLLPPP
its always an good idea to have a micro sd to sd adapter
After 3 locations, I found a Sprint store that actually existed... had them copy an update.zip that I brought on a flash drive onto my micro sd card. I tried booting into recovery and it didn't do the update. They suggested another store that does repairs, so I went to my 5th store, where I just dropped off my phone, hoping they'll reflash it fore me. I'm expecting a call back.
What a wonderful birthday this is turning out to be... lol. FML
UPDATE: I called them and they said the phone needs to be exchanged... but I don't know how they're going to react to it having the recovery/debug version of android on it.
Does anyone have ANY advice?
Just tell them to put in a fully charged battery for you. Then when you get it home try the Simple Root Guide you tried at first. This time post your issue (if you have any others) in that thread and myself or Jiqqa will help. Make sure before starting that guide that you have .NET framework and HTC sync installed on your computer. But you should be able to root phone and then be able to flash custom ROM after that.
Hi, Last night i rooted the phone, partitioned the sd card, installed radio .08 and so on.
Rom were working fine but i just wanted unroot cuz of the warranty issue. Heres to the problem. When i connect the phone it all looks fine. The computer finds it and i can mount the sd card and so on. But when i try to boot with the official ruu it just loses the connection to the computer and stops with the "black" "htc" logo on the screen.
Here's what i've tried: Reformated my SD card with fat32, nandroid back to stock rom (the one you get directly after rooting) and i've tried degrading my radio image to the one .04. have also reinstalled htc sync twice and get same problem...is the phone bricked in any way? im pretty noobish at this so it was foolish of me to try it on my own i know.
I can still flash roms i looks like, just not go back to unrooted
I've done the unrooting process before and it worked like a charm. why not now?
the ROm was Leedroid 1.4 if it helps
Pop onto the #modaco irc channel on chat.freenote.net
This sounds sortable.
Sounds like its just a matter of flashing the stock rom directly from the SD card....Feel free to pm me whilst in the channel
Have you try to boot your phone into Hboot/Fastboot before you execute the RUU?
After you have run the RUU file and it asks you to connect the phone, go to your windows temp folder (start->run->%temp%)
Sort folders by date and open the most recent, inside there you will see a file called rom.zip (about 120 megs) copy that to your SD card and rename it to PB99IMG.zip.
Turn the phone off and reboot holding the vol down key, enter recovery and it should scan the SD card and offer to flash the PB99IMG.zip.
Job done!!
This will also downgrade the radio images, so beware it takes a couple of boots.
I unrooted today and had the same problem, its a simple solution. When you run it the first time it gets stuck on the black screen, dont do anything with the phone, leave it connected, exit the ruu, then run it again and it'll work
I had something like this too. Just close flashing software in windows when it says connection error, unplug usb, plug it back and start firmware flash in windows again.
edit:i was too late.. lol
edit edit: i did unplug, but looks like its not needed
My solution is more elegant though

It sure is nerd way to go!
Hi.
I was recently experiencing some problems with my desire and I believe that I might have rushed into bricking it.
I woke up the day of the bricking. I had just installed the newest version of GingerVillain (version 2.4). My phone had run out of power the day before so I started recharging it. After it had charged for a couple of hours I went to the market to update some apps. During the update my phone suddently rebooted. I thought that it was nothing and went back to the market and continued updating. A few minutes later it rebooted agian. It kept on rebooting with less and less time in between after each attempt until it chose to reboot at the splash screen continuesly.
This is when I thought of starting the phone in recovery and do a NAND restore. As I tried to enter the recovery mode the phone froze at a black screen. I pulled out the battery and retried a couple of times without success.
I read a little on the internet about ADB and tried doing some stuff but I kept on getting errors when running commands in the tools directory. At this point I was getting desperate because I needed the phone to work as I was expecting an important call. I tried flashing a new RUU (through the installer on my PC) while the phone was in fastboot (but without using any ADB and CMD stuff). After this installation almost had finished I got an error saying that the version of the rom wasn't the right one for my phone and the phone shut off.
Since then I haven't been able to boot it into bootloader or even boot it at all. Whenever I hold down power + volume down nothing happends and if I try only pressing the power button the phone vibrates and other than that nothing else happends. Not even the screen turns on.
I since then set up ADB and got it working. I then tried to see if the phone was still able to fastboot through the following commands:
Code:
adb devices
and
Code:
fastboot devices
but found that this was not the case.
Whenever the battery is in the phone though, the bottom of the phone starts to get warm, a little like it's actually using the battery to perform some actions or something. I was also able to recharge it through my computer.
I really need a phone and as it seems I have got my hands on a spare one, but only for a limited time. I'm really thinking of handing it in to the HTC Concept Store so they can send it to the repair department and hopefully get it back as fast as possible.
Its seems.. S-LCD Brick

Ohh dude! I BELIEVE YOU MIGHT JUST HAVE SAVED MY LIFE! TY! TY! TY! TY!
My stationary just killed itself because of the hot weather and a little bit too much work. If I was going to hand in my phone and they couldn't repair it since I had "destroyed" it, I would be forced to buy a new one, and with that I wouldn't be able to afford new components for my stationary.
I will get right on with trying this method as soon as I get home and then I will give feedback asap. It will probably be the most fun "digging in the dark" I will ever do if it turns out to work.
I was almost sure I had killed my beautiful phone, and with it only being a couple of months old that would have been a pain in the ass.
Once again TY so much!!
I have been at this for almost 4 hours now and still no result. I believe the guides could have been more noob friendly. I've been to hell and back reading all the kinds of guides out there to get it all to work and now I'm tired and believe I won't be able to fix this, or atleast doesn't have the capacity to keep on trying.
I pretty much believe that I had this SLCD-brick, but trying out different RUU's is killing me inside and stealing my time. I'd rather just hand in the phone and recieve it as it was from the beginning again to start all over.
Trying to repair a smartphone with a blackscreen is is not something I have the capacity to do. Besides I have my recently deseased stationary computer to take care of as well.
I do have a goldcard, pushed the PB99IMG.zip file to my /sdcard/ through adb and tried starting up fastboot and do as described here.
But somehow I did not find any changes to the problem and the guide itself was wierdly written although the only guide I could find on this problem.
But now I'm giving up. I seriously just hope they will repair my device at no cost.
Regards,
Me
Man.. what happen when you connect your mobile to PC.. is it showing android device and under that bootloader interface.. dont lose hope... lets try some steps...
connect your mobile to PC and see in your device manager.. can you see android.. if yes than your driver are installed...
than remove the phone from pc.. take out the battery.. and put back battery.. and start by volume down and power.. and than after 10 sec just press power button again.. and connect to pc again... and cehck device manager.. and you should see the same if not.. than install your adb driver.
Point is.. install ADB driver.. when you are on hboot screen.. as well fastboot screen..
Than your RUU will detect your phone.
Well I tried all the steps for this. I can see the phone when booting it with the following combos:
Code:
1: Volume down + Power
2: Power
1: Volume down + Power
2: Volume down
3: Power
When using the first method I should as far as I can understand myself enter fastboot and the other one is recovery. Even when running the fastboot devices / adb devices commands in ADB it tells me what state my devices in, that is either fastboot or recovery. So that's for certain.
I tried running the following RUU when I had connected my device with fastboot:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
The RUU found my device and I ended up with a 140 Error. I read in some guide that this error could be to blame of different windows drivers so I tried grabbing the rom.zip from the RUU (from Temp folder) and renamed it to PB99IMG.zip and put it on the phone. As I couldn't get access to my SD card since I can't see what's on my screen in fastboot and recovery mode I used:
Code:
adb push PB99IMG.zip /sdcard/
with the PB99IMG.zip placed in my tools folder for the transfer. It completed and now the PB99IMG.zip should be placed on the root of my sdcard.
As a notice I live in Denmark and the above RUU should as far as I can understand be the one I need and should as well be SLCD compatible.
When I try to trace the steps in the "not able to see your screen guide" placed here I get none of the desired outcomes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268
I find the guide a little but confusing though. When to use the right commands to trace through a black screen fastboot/recovery and stuff isn't really "noob"-friendly.
When I tried using the following command I didn't get the desired result either:
Code:
fastboot oem gencheckpt
Which should return a HTC_<number> that could tell me whether my phone is branded or not, but instead resulted in an error. As far as I can remember I did make my sdcard a goldcard when I rooted my phone, without knowing whether I would need it, so this number should be irrelevant. So I kept on going at this point.
I have basicly tried everything that I can find guides for and have traced all the steps in detail as far as I understand the guides anyhow. I feel like at a dead end. I am having doubtsg whether the PB99IMG.zip is run when I boot my phone.
Having a clean slate (but still the PB99IMG.zip on the sdcard I have now tried the following:
Code:
Volume down + Power
Windows reported a connected Android 1.0 device and the Android Bootloader Interface.
Power once more (should now be in fastboot)
fastboot devices
confirmed the above, but using ADB devices only return a result if the phone is in recovery mode
So far so good..
I'll give this one more day which will be when I return home at 17:00 today. Then I'll head to tech support at my HTC Store.
Good.. i think you should try this RUU
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
As error 140 is for wrong bootloader.. so try this RUU.. n try to run RUU from PC rather than putting PB99IMG into sd..

Okay. I'll try this and should I run it while in recovery like I did with the other one?
Does it matter if my SD card is out of the phone?
EDIT 1:
I tried with the sdcard out of the phone and with the RUU installed through windows. I now see a HTC Logo on the screen.. and an installing bar below the logo.. Seems like you were my divine interception mate.. ty a lot. I will write once the installation is done.. whether or not it succeeds.
EDIT 2:
My phone is now working. Booted with HTC Sense and a pin code request. Currently setting it up.
I guess I should now be able to re-root it again and get back to the state I was in before I SLCD-bricked it.. or what?
And in what way do I easiest remove that PM99IMG.zip file from the sdcard..? I booted my phone without the sdcard in it to avoid it running the PM99IMG.zip file..
One little question more.. I don't have any phone signal.. could this be to blame for the radio? I can connect to wifi though.. or can I simply run that other RUU I used earlier with the bootloader error to get back my signal?
So happy right now..
EDIT 3:
Nvm. I tried shutting down the phone, put in the sdcard, boot it up again. I found that the ADB push command on that PM99IMG.zip file didn't work. The file wasn't there.. and I suddently got back my signal. Only question is, can I now re-root it again and get back to my previous state without any problems?
Yes Ofcourse you can re root it.. with Unrevoked rooting wont be a big problem... and as soon as you root... just take a nandroid backup from it and be safe..
Enjoy the victory you earned... .. ;-)
Hallo,
just now I was trying to open an app on my DHD but it kept force closing so I decided to Normaly restart it. When I did that it went to the Welcome Logo then got stuck and kept on turning on and Off.
Then I removed the battery and tried again. This time the Bootscreen appeared (I was glad since I could recover a backup version of the RAM) but to my amazement I couldn't navigate through the options. Even the power button didn't work. I tried several times but with the same results.
I was wondering is there a way to restore my mobile from my laptop (USB Debugging?) now after I reached this state?!
How could I solve this?
Any help would be appreciated
UPDATE: I noticed before the Bootscreen loads, there appears some messages quickly before they disappear. I kept on turning my phone on and off to see what they said eventually I came out with this

Can you navigate any menus? If you can't you probably have a volume key hardware issue. If you can, i would just put a p98diag.zip on the root and reflash (use the rooted one).
Sounds like you are booting into bootloader. You need recovery. Pull the battery, then reinsert and hold volume down + hit power. If that doesn't work if you have adb set up on computer, plug it in to computer and use adb reboot recovery.

I guess that you have a PD98IMG.zip on sd card.
Remove it or everytime you reboot in bootloader it will ask you to update in a never ending story. Probably this is why all other commands are not working except reboot.
Then reboot bootloader and go to recovery.
No I can't navigate (the weird thing is the power button also dosen't respond) it's like it freezes as soon as it turns on... Could you give me the PD98IMG.zip in a separate link?
I tried reinst the battery while holding the volume + but it didn't work. It vibrated 4 times while the charge light turned green but that was it. It stayed green and the screen was off...
I've always had the volume keys issue even before it went crazy (they do not always respond to my press) but I just installed 3rd party apps as a workaround.
I couldn't find the p98diag.zip anywhere on the SD card (could you give me the path for it?)
I will try to reboot it through my laptop but could someone give me the commands I should write? I'm not that experienced in that field.
Btw I left it for a while before I turned it on again, it went into Safe Mode (no apps no nothing) then I turned it off and after several tries it finally turned on in the normal mode and was almost stable until I restarted it and it went to point 0 again and now I'm stuck with the bootscreen :S
Thanks for your help
Do you have adb set up on your computer? If so then connect phone to laptop. Open command prompt type "adb remount" then "adb reboot recovery"

but it's been like that for 2 hours now. I tried reinst the battery and pluging in the mobile to my laptop but it didn't recognize it. (I tried the adb and it gave me Device not found" error!
Is it normal for the phone to take long to parse the zip file? what should I do now?

You shouldn't have installed pd98diag. I would suggest either trying to run the ruu to get back to stock, or find the stock rom in pd98img.zip form and place on root of sdcard. Then reroot and start over.
Edit: if you find the stock rooted in pd98img.zip form that should work too and you won't have to reroot.
Edit 2: be sure to remove the pd98diag.zip from your sd card.

Good advice! I still have all the files I used to root (even the RUU)
And you're right I shouldn't have flashed the old pd98img because now my laptop can't recognize my mobile and I can't debug it from the command line (it says Device not found)
Can I still be able to root the img without using my phone? I used this guide to root my phone (http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-downgrade-htc-desire-hd-to-root-it-after-ota-update/)
Where can I find the rooted img? and will it be possible for me to upload it here so that someone could root it for me on his device and give it to me rooted?
To boot into recovery
Hold down volume - button (not +) while pressing power button.
Let go of power button but continue pressing down on volume -.
Hey presto ... recovery.
It's a very easy mistake to make, I did it myself a few times when I first got into rooting and flashing ROM's.

Problem is:
Few months ago i rooted my unbranded DHD, installed CyanogenMod 7.1, it worked perfectly fine for a couple of months, but a few days ago, my phone was on but did not respond anymore. I tried to reboot it, but it got stuck at the white screen with the HTC logo (sometimes it bootloops, other times it freezes)
I rebooted the phone with the volume down key pressed, so it would give me that menu,
scrolled down to "Recovery", i get the recovery menu from ClockworkMod (5.0.2.0), but then my volume key does not work ! i can not do whipe or anything else, the phone freezes.
I mounted the SD card in my PC, cleared it, put a rom in root of SD card and call the rom "PD98IMG.zip" and put the SD card back in my phone. I start the phone with the volume key down pressed, i get that
white screen with the menu and it then finds the .zip file.
It then reads the image, parses the image and then tries to load "NV.img" on which my phone freezes again.
I tried CyanogenMod and LeeDroid, and a stock rom. They all do the same thing, as written above.
When i connect my phone to my PC, my pc tries to install the driver, but gives me an error, saying the device is not known. I have installed both HTC Sync and the SDK. Tried it when i had only HTC Sync
installed, did not work either.
I also tried a RUU (.exe file) but this program tells me there is no device connected...
My phone is over a year old, so i have no warenty anymore, that's why i rooted it.
Phone is in S-Off Mode
HBoot-0.85.2007
Radio-26.03.02.26_M
OS version 1.72.405.3
Tried to boot with SIM and SD, just the SIM, just the SD and with none of them. Outcome is still the same.
i've read a few things about abd and such, never used it before, so please, speak noob
ok...
got it sorta running, but, whatever rom i install, it comes back like its chinese, it wont see my SIM and im in some sort of set up. I can do the setup, but when i come at the Wifi menu where i have to choose my wifi, it freezes..
Tried stock rom, CyanogenMod 7.1 (on which it ran perfectly before it crashed) and LeeDroid.. they all come to this..
Now when i try to load a rom (cyanogenmod 7.1 again) and go into hboot then choose recovery, the phone shows an image of a phone with a red triangle with a ! in it.. and wont install..
Delete PD98IMG from sd card. Reboot the phone as you did before (volume down + power button) plug the usb to pc (It should now read fastboot usb) and try to run an official RUU.exe
Just to see if it works with the stock rom.
The red triangle could be the stock recovery. From stock recovery you cannot flash any custom rom. From red triangle screen push volume up and power button. It should go through a menu where you can try to do a factory reset, just in case...
Ignore the wifi setting, if this is causing freeze. You can set it later.
Here is a list of official RUUs. Download the appropriate and run (colud be the 12 from the top). I know you tried already but just an idea.
Also, you may need the driver. Uninstall HtcSync and download and install this Driver. Better to reboot pc after you installed the right driver.
Good luck!
Thank you vey much !
Downloading a RUU at the moment. I also wanted to download that driver, but that is not a correct link. (the link says http:/ /htcdriver.3.00.700.exe which ofcourse wont let me download anything.
Could you please give the correct link ? For now i'll try the SDK one, downloading that RUU is going to take another hour, i'll be trying this RUU when its downloaded.
Thnx again !
