I was rooted and running a 2.2 rom and wanted to install the damagecontrol 3.2 rom, which, as I understand it, requires NAND to be unlocked. I downloaded Simple Root and tried to unlock NAND.
When I turn on the phone I get stuck in a boot loop.
I try the recovery console. It takes a few minutes to load PC36diag.zip, the update for NAND which I already installed.
When I say no to the update and no to restarting I get into the menu, but if I try RECOVERY it loads the phone with the exclamation point, but I am unable to connect using the adb batch file I have always used before.
Also, when I try HBOOT USB the drivers aren't able to be installed. The device is read as "Android 1.0".
Can someone please help me?

Bootloop means you need to do a full wipe.
First thing's first, delete the PC36IMG.zip file from your SD. Then when you get the image of a phone with an exclamation mark, hold down the power and volume up key to get into recovery.
As for the last bit, I'm sorta' confused what you're problem is.
Part of my problem is that I can't delete the file from the SD card. Can't get into the OS and can't turn on USB.
Something similar happened to me. For me, instead of booting Damage Control, I switched it to Fresh and booted Fresh v3.0 and it worked and booted. Then I unlocked the Nand and made a nandroid. Then whipped everything 2 times and booted DC and it worked fine after that.

You can get in to usb and put fresh on there by going to recovery mode and selecting one of the options that says USB, i can't remember the exact wording.
Added: I just checked it's called "USB-MS toggle"

When you get the exclamation mark screen, hold down the Power and Volume Down key. Once in recovery mode, select the USB-MS Toggle feature, this mounts your SD card yto your PC. You should then be able to access the root of your SD card via the Removable Disk icon on your computer.
It wouldn't let me load USB from the console/whatever either... Another weird driver issue.
But after several more hard battery pulls I let it try again to boot and it showed me the "HTC, quietly brilliant" boot screen, which was different that what it had before.. I let it load and now I'm in android, but it says my SD card is removed.
Is this a part of the process necessary to unlock NAND?... Do I have NAND?

no. You make your nand back up when you are in recovery mode and you select nand back up and it backs up everything. You'll need to follow through with the rest of the Nand unlocking instructions.
Did you download and follow the steps of the flash_image and mtg-eng.img etc etc...? Then the rest of the steps?
That's the first thing I tried to do when android loaded. It's not even an option. It says I removed my SD card.
I restarted, denied the update to get through to recovery, and I still can't connect with adb -it shows "Unknown Device" in the device manager.

are you connected with charge only? try hot sync (you need to install the program, which include drivers. this is on the htc website)
Mine worked for hot sync but not charge only
Looks like you may need to run through this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
I've been reading that post.
When I select fastboot, it gives me other options.
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
powerdown
If I select bootloader it takes me back to the main menu, if I select reboot, I get back to android and still do not have access to my SD card, so I can't get out of the debugging rom, or whatever it is.
I put another SD card in, so I don't have to wait on the update.zip to be read every single reboot, but that's all it did.
Am I doing something wrong?
Don't know then... sorry. You can try starting over from the beginning?
Best of luck.
FML.
Someone? I'm totally stuck.
And my phone says the the charger isn't delivering sufficient voltage... and I'm down to 8%.
HEEELLLPPP
its always an good idea to have a micro sd to sd adapter
After 3 locations, I found a Sprint store that actually existed... had them copy an update.zip that I brought on a flash drive onto my micro sd card. I tried booting into recovery and it didn't do the update. They suggested another store that does repairs, so I went to my 5th store, where I just dropped off my phone, hoping they'll reflash it fore me. I'm expecting a call back.
What a wonderful birthday this is turning out to be... lol. FML
UPDATE: I called them and they said the phone needs to be exchanged... but I don't know how they're going to react to it having the recovery/debug version of android on it.
Does anyone have ANY advice?
Just tell them to put in a fully charged battery for you. Then when you get it home try the Simple Root Guide you tried at first. This time post your issue (if you have any others) in that thread and myself or Jiqqa will help. Make sure before starting that guide that you have .NET framework and HTC sync installed on your computer. But you should be able to root phone and then be able to flash custom ROM after that.

Hi, Last night i rooted the phone, partitioned the sd card, installed radio .08 and so on.
Rom were working fine but i just wanted unroot cuz of the warranty issue. Heres to the problem. When i connect the phone it all looks fine. The computer finds it and i can mount the sd card and so on. But when i try to boot with the official ruu it just loses the connection to the computer and stops with the "black" "htc" logo on the screen.
Here's what i've tried: Reformated my SD card with fat32, nandroid back to stock rom (the one you get directly after rooting) and i've tried degrading my radio image to the one .04. have also reinstalled htc sync twice and get same problem...is the phone bricked in any way? im pretty noobish at this so it was foolish of me to try it on my own i know.
I can still flash roms i looks like, just not go back to unrooted
I've done the unrooting process before and it worked like a charm. why not now?
the ROm was Leedroid 1.4 if it helps
Pop onto the #modaco irc channel on chat.freenote.net
This sounds sortable.
Sounds like its just a matter of flashing the stock rom directly from the SD card....Feel free to pm me whilst in the channel
Have you try to boot your phone into Hboot/Fastboot before you execute the RUU?
After you have run the RUU file and it asks you to connect the phone, go to your windows temp folder (start->run->%temp%)
Sort folders by date and open the most recent, inside there you will see a file called rom.zip (about 120 megs) copy that to your SD card and rename it to PB99IMG.zip.
Turn the phone off and reboot holding the vol down key, enter recovery and it should scan the SD card and offer to flash the PB99IMG.zip.
Job done!!
This will also downgrade the radio images, so beware it takes a couple of boots.
I unrooted today and had the same problem, its a simple solution. When you run it the first time it gets stuck on the black screen, dont do anything with the phone, leave it connected, exit the ruu, then run it again and it'll work
I had something like this too. Just close flashing software in windows when it says connection error, unplug usb, plug it back and start firmware flash in windows again.
edit:i was too late.. lol
edit edit: i did unplug, but looks like its not needed
My solution is more elegant though

Hey guys,,
i have a problem. i wanna root my phone via unrevoked and tried to install the HBOOT drivers. but when i plug in my phone the device manager doesn't name it as "Android 1.0" like it's shown in the tutorial, it is named "ADB". furthermore i can't install the hboot driver. any solutions?
The hboot drivers are installed when in hboot on the phone
so power down, power up holding the volume down and power.
Then device should show up as android device
ADB is when the phone is in debugging mode.
If you install "PdaNetA245_intl" this will install the ADB driver and you can cancel installation before installing the full application.
Unrevoked should then work

ok I'll try.. just a moment
So now I am in this HBOOT-mode, where I have the options "Fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock".
but now my PC can't identify anymore. it seems... when I plug in my device , where HBOOT stands normally, turns into "HBOOT USB PLUG" but that returns to HBOOT very fast...
it worked after plugging it in for about the 10th time!!!
sooo.... now I rebooted the phone activated debugging and plugged it back in.. now it recognizes it again as ADB and wants to install a new driver and unrevoked can't find it... how to go on?!

Read my first reply. i have answered your previous question and this question, however it seems that you have just disregarded it.
ok rooting seemed to work now... but i tried to get a new rom on it.. so i followed the tutorial but couldn't find the ROM on my zip and when I want to reboot the phone it seemes to freeze @ the HTC bootscreen... i also tried with a wipe and booting again but it seems to totally freeze since i let it load for ~5 minutes now.

Did you perform a wipe? Wipes are vital to maintaining a functional ROM. Time could also depend on the size of the ROM you flash, so it could take a while. If you have been waiting for +20 min, try to go old fashioned and push a stock onto your sd. Or you could go even more old fashioned and take out the sdcard and put the ROM onto it. Make sure the ROM is not corrupt
Sorry to bring an old thread back up guys.
I'm having the exact same problem helping a friend root, could you provide a link for the program you did in your first post please as googling it returns those crappy host file sites that never work..
I presume that step is necessary?

Hi all,
Hope someone can help, I have a desire HD that has some issues.
Long story short the phone was acting up and was flashed with a non official ROM. It was working originally but after about a week it started acting up, with apps force closing, phone crashing altogether etc.
I am trying to get the phone back to a state that Vodafone in Australia will be able to warranty the phone in.
The current situation is that when the phone turns on, it'll load straight to the bootloader/hboot. Recovery mode does not work - it dumps you in to fastboot menu and fails to load.
System restore from boot menu does not work either, and there is no rom at all so USB debugging is a no go, and there appears to be no way to flash the ROM.
Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

adb get-state
result:
unknown
Code:
adb devices
But this does depend on you having previously ticked USB Debugging option before you had all these problems (no way to check now without being able to boot the phone).
If this fails you may have to try the previous suggestion of putting a PD98IMG on your sdcard then going into fastboot on the phone.

Currently there is no Rom on the Phone. Just put PD98IMG.zip on the SD card which seems to be updating. Does it normally take a while to Update all the Sections?
Can take anything from 5 to 20+ minutes.
Seems to be taking ages to even get past [1]. Is that normal? Hasn't done anything. It says "Updating" yet I'm still yet to see it get past "[1] BOOTLOADER"
Just to confirm...
1. Turn phone off
2. Put PD98IMG file onto ROOT of sd card
3. Use vol- and power button to get to Fastboot
4. Scroll and select Bootloader (HBOOT)
(might automatically do last step when you boot phone)
Phone will show a message to say it is looking for the file then unpack it and install.

Confirmed dude. Doesn't seem to be doing much though. It has been stuck on "updating BOOTLOADER". It has trying to update it for more then 30mins now
It has a big list of 12 things it wants to update however it hasn't moved past the first file "BOOTLOADER" in over 30mins.
Did you confirm the MD5HASH of the file before putting it on the card?
Could you put a link to where you got the file from please?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Thank you.
Are you still connected to the PC? If so disconnect and try again.
Did you confirm the MD5HASH?
Have you got another SD card you can try? If not, reformat the current one and put the PD98IMG file on it again and try again.
The Device fails to even turn on now dude. Thanks anyway man
!!!???!!!
Damn. Do you just get the orange flashing light when you try to turn the phone on?
Take out SD Card and try.
If nothing works the bright side is you can send it to HTC and say "I woke up, turned it on and it's dead". Chances are they'll never be able to tell how it happened.
Many people did this when the Clockwork recovery bug bricked loads of phones.
Sorry but stay positive. Always a sliver lining.
Thank you
thanks for your great guidance to get back to recovery. I followed your tips and made it.
thanks a lot once again.

ok so heres the story, its kinda long so i might include cliff notes at bottom.
i have an htc incredible, verizon branded. i was trying to flash it over to boost for my son to use, he has one of those crappy sanyo phones. i did all the reading of the "donor" phone and even installed the NV465,466,1192,1194 files onto the incredible. i was at the stage of changing the meid to the one from the donor phone. it wouldnt take the meid and i went to get up from my chair to take a break. when i stood up the phone fell and unpluged from the usb cable and hit the floor, battery came out. well when i went to plug in the phone in again i couldnt/cant get past the "htc incredible" white screen. it seems to be stuck in an endless cycle, but if i hold the power and optical center key i can get to the boot menu. nothing in the boot menu works. i have tried everything fastboot, bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, hboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock, factory reset and even plugging the usb cable in does nothing. i can see the phone in my devise drivers but can not get anything to load via usb. i have tried ruu, nothing special rom(dont know that it would work since its not rooted) on sd card and nothing seems to be working. is there anything i can do? or did i just make a brick?
cliff notes: flashing htc incredible to boost, phone stuck in endless "htc incredible" loop. need help

2) boot to hboot and and let see the file and install it

ok, so lets go back to the original method we talked about.
The only way to brick your phone is during flashing a radio, and something goes wrong. which i am hoping you have not done?
Back to pulling the usb cable out, and putting the SD card in and booting to hboot
pushing the down button from the first screen shot, will take you to another screen, where it will pause and then should look something like the second screenshot where it is checking the files, which will then give an opt to install.
( you can toggle the power button to get to the correct screen in first screenshot

Hi
Today I tried to install Android Cm7 on it from following procedure
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566955
I copied RHODIMG.nbh and CM7***.zip file on the root of the SD and restarted with volume down key which installed successfully but now Im having a black screen after every restart.
Currently the device starts with HTC screen but then goes black. I can also get into boot loader mode by restarting with volume key down but now it does not detect any RHODIMG.nbh file even if its in root of the SD card. Now I cant even install back Energy rom.
Before energy rom, I did installed Hard SPL successfully and its still there too.
Please help
OKay, so I have tried everything I could and I think the boot loader is corrupted?
I tried to load different RHODIMG.NBH files from the root of the SD card, Energy, Deepshining and then Stock ROM too but for all the boot loader says 'No Image File'
Can anybody please guide me here??
Try using the USB installer. So long as you can get to the bootloader screen, you can flash via USB or SD. If SD isn't working, try USB.

Yes, I just did it, I installed WMDC as I was on Win7, when I went in bootloader and connected the phone via USB it was detected as HTC USB Hub, then I Flashed the Energy ROM and its working fine now.
Strange dont know why it was not detected the .nbh file in the sd card..!!
Though for a moment I thought I bricked my mobile but I still want to take another chance to install Android in it
Glad to hear you're back up and running.
