It was fun, but it's time to move on from the Nitro HD - LG Nitro HD

Just got a Galaxy Nexus. Ah, official Jelly Bean goodness.
Hope they release a stable CM10 soon for the Nitro so that you guys won't have to endure the bugs in the nightlies any longer.

It makes sense.. I mean. It's general discussion and it is about the Nitro HD. Plus, is responding really helping?

Yeah, I decided to move on too...
Now, I'm waiting for Galaxy Note 2. I found that 4.5" screen is too small (but tablet is too big) for me.
Guys, I need your help. What is the actual price for used device in ideal condition (without scratches) I can ask - with two cases and new screen protector?

You'd probably be lucky to get $300 because people are retards and think phones like the iPhone are awesome.

If any of you are offloading for cheap I may be interested. Its either snag a nitro for the wife or start tinkering with her infuse.

not sure why you felt the need to make a ****ty remark about the cm10 guys on your way out but then again, you are here crowing about getting a year old phone so I shouldn't hold you to too high of a standard.

Anyways I just wanted to say thanks to HO!NO! and Andasa (not sure where he went...woulda been a prodigy ) and of course the CM Team (aremcee). I'm moving on from this too. Loved this phone, and will drop in from time to time as my brother is taking this, but I just wanted to say thanks to the awesome XDA community here.
Edit: Just got a galaxy s3. Loving it, but I'm using my nitro for a while.

Whatever happened to HO! NO!?

Let's see, not only is the Nexus a newer phone than the Nitro (Oct 2011 for Nitro, Nov 2011 for Nexus), but it:
1) Actually has stable Jelly Bean from Google
2) Actually can make it through a day of heavy use and still have battery left over
3) Actually has more than 3 person developing for it
4) Runs twice as smoothly as the Nitro, and crashes...well, never.
But since you're on here bashing anyone who criticizes the faults of the Nitro, I guess I shouldn't hold you to too high of a standard either. Nor would I expect you to understand the logic behind why I went with the Nexus and not the One X or SGS3, or why one of my friends, an admin here on XDA, still keeps his Galaxy Nexus as a daily driver despite having an SGS3 and getting free phones to test all the time. But I'll give you a hint: specs alone don't determine the user experience.

Alright, I think the discussions have crossed the line with these last comments. There is no one perfect device for everyone... unless, of course, you are one of the Sheeple who believes everything Apple says. If we're so worried that someone else prefers another phone over what we have chosen ourselves, we may as well be playing for the other team.
Anyway, fun time's over, and as such:

I think that there is a quad core HTC one s coming out for the Tmobile line of phones. Anyone getting it, more undoubtedly there is an gs blaze being released add an addition to the galaxy s series of phones which is a hype looking at how we already have an original s and s2 all this does is make the galaxy s team further.

Do you really want to stay on the samsung boat? Android 5.0 is going to be launched this year, and youll have to wait 4+ months for an update again. When i jump shop, its to a phone with a running non-beta CM9. Its clear this phone has nothing in terms of CM and waiting till summer for ICS is simply pathetic on Samsungs part.

That's what I'm saying. This will probably be my last carrier subsidized phone period. Waiting on Samsung and then waiting on the carrier is a joke. This phone has been a big disappointment. I like the phone, but its like the red headed step child of the galaxy phones. This along with the skyrocket. I stopped waiting on ICS a while ago. Samsung is so hush mouth about updates. Makes you think they will do anything to get you to buy another phone. No thanks Sammy.
When we finally get ICS it will be dated and the next best thing will be out. By then the gsII will be yesterdays news. Google really needs to be more like Apple with updates. They are starting to leave a bad taste for me. This may sound like a rant but its true.

i wouldn't go HTC until they go back to making quality phones. They went downhill lately with crappy battery life and cheap lcd displays. just like how samsung had a slump until the gs2's got released
I'm looking at the Asus Padphone or the SGS3, depending on which one comes out with an AWS or Pentaband version.

Asus has been quite good on updates with their current devices. If they keep that up id consider asus products in the future.
But at this point, im so sick of the android fragmentation that its either gonna be the google phone, or an iphone. Windows phones are starting to look more and more tempting to, specially with Windows 8 coming and whatever integration they have planned.
Even the google phones might get screwed on the CDMA side, and my carrier is CDMA only.
But its become quite clear that they havent finished ICS for the intl GSII, and probably havent started ours even. The CM team has nothing either. Have heard rumors that Cyanogen himself uses a T989 but i really doubt it, cause wed have an alpha at least.

Been using wp7. For the last two 1/2 months and although the apps aren't there yet, its been a refreshing change from all this ICS mess. Once T-Mobile comes out with a 4.3 or higher screen size, I will probably make a full switch.
I miss some of my apps and games though. Then again my ps3 takes care of the gaming issue. Wp7 runs so much smoother. Its nice to take a break from android.

Sold my AT&T Note & ordered a Unlocked Nexus!

What's up I've come to the dark side, well the other dark side. I've been on XDA for a while. I just ordered my unlocked Nexus from Amazon tonight for $502 with 1 day shipping!
My short story, I originally took the GF to AT&T to show her the Note as I though it was the perfect phone for her. She doesn't own a tablet like me and uses her iPhone to read her Hollywood gossip yada yada. I figured she would love the Note.
I also ended up loving the Note too "new toy syndrome" so I had to have one. Our upgrades weren't due until May. So I went ahead I threw down $650 for the AT&T Note.
Now don't get me wrong the Note is awesome! But the reasons it didn't work for me is.... Well first my area was "supposed" to get LTE in June but that failed and was pushed back till 2013. So what good is a LTE phone will no LTE! That's a big reason I didn't buy a international Note. Also I fell for the old "the note will get ICS in Q1" silly me I think I'm done believing or hoping for carrier updates anymore.
And honestly I've been in love with the Nexus since its unvailing. It's such a sleek pristine looking device. Not to mention pure ICS experience. I tried to set my Note up like a ICS overlay. But still had that god awful touch wiz lag.
I think I made the right choice, obviously. Nothing taken from the Note but me already using my Tablet daily it felt a tad redundant to have a 5.3" display and my tablet. I think the Nexus screen size is perfect. I have big hands and was able to one hand the note while typing but felt like it could possibly fall. I find the iPhone to small like I'll crush it, the Note a little on the iffy big side. But the nexus seems perfect size in today's mobile smartphone standards.
So just wanted to welcome myself and I have a lot of reading to catch up on!
Can't wait to get my Nexus with no AT&T branding and bloat less! I was gonna get the white model but it was $40 more and I thought the black looked more stealth and clean. I had a white note but I liked how the entire device even the dace was white.
I just did the same. I am not disappoint.

You won't regret it. A few weeks ago I was on the edge about buying the Nexus or not b/c of the price, but as soon as I got the phone all of that went away. It's an amazing phone and you won't regret it
Let us know how it is when it comes in!
Just did the same and Got my nexus yesterday.
However, the ICS version on it is 4.0.1.
I tried to perform a software update but it keeps telling me that my phone has the latest update.
Any advise???
Thanks
I had the intl Note and I miss it. That's probably my tech ADD.

Haha, understandable. My GF will still have the note if I wanna mess with it. It's a great phone but usually when I'm home I always grab for my tablet. Plus the Nexus screen is gonna feel huge being I had to use a spare iPhone 4 for a day until my Nexus comes in. It's only for a day or two but I feel like I'm gonna crush the little guy lol. Now the the thing I used the S-pen a lot was for Draw something with the GF, but I felt like it was cheating hahaha! And I was much better challenging the little one in fruit ninja. I found it a lot easier playing it with the S-pen, plus I hate that feeling when I swipe the screen fast with my finger tip. Odd lol.

There are many guides on the web and also tool kits. You can try and follow the instructions here
Most importantly you will need to set up Android SDK and drivers. Once this is done modding any Android device is a few short scripts away.

Waiting on the carriers is not fun. The carriers do not have the end users interest at heart. Although buying off contract carries many risks with GNex this is a good device.

{Sprint} Why Galaxy Nexus over the Evo LTE

Both phones are giving me the itchy trigger finger, and the phone's release dates are only a month apart. So I pose a question to the current G-nexus owners. What's the reasoning on choosing a device that is less superior and both selling for the same price?
I'm a nerd, So I like the idea of NFC and google wallet. Also, I wanted a pure google device. I hate that HTC is always the last to get updates and the first to add bloatware. If I was to look at another device, it would be the S3
If it s dual core evo, I would say just get the nexus

I am in the same boat here. As I see it I have three options. Stick with my Evo 3D, get a Gnex, or get a Evo 4G LTE. Right now getting a Gnex is looking good .
Super Amoled screen is better in my opinion. It's much more beautiful.
The Gnex is going to receive Android updates a lot sooner than the EVO.
HTC (in my cases) appear to drain battery quicker than any other manufacturer.
Why get a phone that will have a locked boot loader and wait until they release the unlock or wait months for someone to crack it ....no thanks
Been there done that and have the shirt with a pos 3d on it

This is the same reason I went from a HTC 3d to the Gnex .... HTC is too good at locking down a bootloader. Some of the latest HTC phones need a jump wire to root them! That, to me, is crazy.
I loved my original Evo, but changing to the Nexus S, then to the Galaxy Nexus was the best thing I ever did. Nexus phones are a million times better, whether you leave them stock and unrooted, or you like rooting and roms. There's just so many advantages to Nexus phones.

Get the Nexus.
The new Evo will likely break easily, be laggy, and get updates 6 months later.
Also, developer support.

I hope to also get the Evo 4G LTE as well if all goes according to plan. I want both devices, but if I had to pick one it would be very hard for me. Yes, the GNex will get updates the soonest and there is a lot of support, but I still like Sense and developing for it. I know lots of my EVO 3D guys are getting the LTE and have asked me to make a ROM.
The new processor in the LTE might only be dual core, but it is a monster. I think it will be a good phone and it will be all about preference.

Coming from an evo3d to gnex i will tell you i will never buy another htc phone in my life. The smooth vanilla ics is amazing. No root problems (so easy to root), you dont have to worry about having a certain hboot to flash kernels and such, Plus the evo lte is kinda ugly imo.

It depends on what you want... The GNex will get official updates to Jelly Bean and, more likely than not, Key Lime Pie. The Evo, on the other hand, will be lucky to get Jelly Bean at all, and KLP is almost out of the question. Also, the GNex, like all Nexus devices, has first-rate dev support. If software is important to you, then there really is no other option-- the Nexus is sovereign!

It would have been good if Google made a demonstration of how Kitkat is capable with the lower end device, e.g. Gnex or the NexS.

I agree. I think it will be sooner than later though as most the developers of the ROMs I have been using all have their nexus 5's. Not sure what to do myself as I'm unlimited Verizon and no newer nexus device available yet.

I fear that is the case already. I am not seeing a lot of movement on the 4.4 ROMs out there, the threads are not that active, and it appears that hardware (GPU) is blocking real progress in allowing 4.4 to be stable on the GNex. I rolled back to CM 10.1.3 which has been rock-stable with good battery life and strong signal for now, and am under contract until June before I can upgrade without penalty.

Point taken, but my comment wasn't about patience, it was about volume. The traffic just appears to be less than in the heady days of JB, for instance. Fewer posts IMHO means more people moving to other devices. I hope I'm wrong!

While KitKat is said to be able to run on lower-spec devices, this doesn't mean every phone ever made will begin to receive updates, nexus or otherwise. Will the HTC Hero receive KitKat? What about the Evo 4G? It has 512mb ram, and should run it just fine. This update was created to get rid of Gingerbread from the entry level devices being sold in developing countries.

[Q] Just got a Galaxy Nexus....

Just curious if the attached image is about what I should be expecting in terms of battery life. The screen seems to draw a lot more than I'm used to (then again this is my first experience with AMOLED screens).
Also, for those who have rooted and installed cm or a similar custom ROM, would I see a significant difference if I went beyond the stock firmware?
Thanks very much!

What's the actual screen time?

That's about on par with what I'm seeing. But really it is going to vary by user so there is no answer. I always have data and wifi off so it lasts me all day at work. But aside from that this is the wrong forum for this.

To find your actual screen on time: go to the screen you were at when u took screenshot, and then tap where it says "Screen".
It will bring another screen up with information about how much total time the screen was on.
The galaxy nexus(especially toro due to its LTE/CDMA radio combo which is also very draining on battery) is not going to ever give you stellar battery life. I HIGHLY recommend grabbing yourself an extra battery (or two lol) to carry around like I do. They are small enough to throw an extra in ya pocket or wallet when you go out. And will give you much peace of mind in knowing that you have a full backup battery with ya.(also, at this point these batteries even OEM Samsung ones are VERY cheap. Even the OEM extended battery.(2100mah))
I will also go ahead and recommend grabbing yourself an external charger.(If you want, I can link you to the one I purchased long ago, it is official Samsung one, came with an extended Gnex battery and charging cable. And can ALSO be used as a stand for device, I also used to use it as a perfect little stand for my nexus 7 tablet.
I personally have 3 batteries(1extended OEM, 2 regular OEM, I USED to have ANTHER extended OEM one but I dropped it in a puddle lolol) and they are well worth the money especially beings as now they will be even cheaper than when I got em.
Let me know if you'd like the link to the Samsung external charger/battery combo I got.
ALSO:
WELCOME to the forums! Just remember posts like this should go in the Q/A or General section, development sections new thread posts are for ROM/kernel/development topics don't be discouraged if your post gets moved
You MIGHT want to try a custom kernel to see if you get better battery life(and probably performance also! Bonus!) you can use kernels from the Galaxy Nexus Android Development section. You do not have to use only the ones found in the VZW Gnex forum. But for a ROM, make sure to ONLY use the ones from the Verizon Wireless Gnex section. Kernels will work on any variant, ROMs are NOT interchangeable (you will prolly end up having to flash stock factory img thru fastboot or toolkit if u flash wrong ROM variant. But that isn't so bad, very easy)
Sorry for such the long reply, just trying to make your transition to the Gnex world easier hopefully
Wow. Could I look like more of a noob? Don't know how the post got here, I thought I specifically put this in Q&A. At least this explains why I didn't see my post show up there. Well, either I or Tapatalk are goofing up. Anyways, thanks for the informative replies despite my error. It's an example of what makes XDA great!

No worries, I think it could be Tapatalk anyways, cuz now Tapatalk is showing TWO of this thread here and one is showing all kinds of </br > junk in it. It acts up sometimes(gotta love how I paid for the first Tapatalk paid app, which is now free and ad supported I yhink, AND I purchased this Tapatalk HD/pro(?) Whatever they wanna call it now, ONLY cuz I figured okay maybe all the updates won't constantly break functionality like they did on previous app since they overhauled a lot of it. But yea....I mean it works good MOST of the time but they only JUST fixed the INSANE lag from large posts that have a lot of thanks(see v6superharger thread as example, used to be gawd awful scrolling the first post...prolly still is lmao... Just wish mobile browsing wasn't so horrid most of time or another COMPETING app to push development to be better. Though I'm sure its tough to try and get these apps nearly prefect with ALL the constantly changing forums they support and such....BUT...that's an AshRants for another day...lmao sorry I ramble a lot.)
Even tho battery life for toro(vzw gnex) really leaves something to be desired, the device is EASILY one of the funnest to own and tinker with. SO MANY CHOICES makes finding "that prefect setup" a LOT of fun. And the kernels available are just stellar.(I highly recommend one of the most active as of late either DirtyV(by @bsmitty83 I use his smittyV builds personally), Fancy(by @boype ) or HybridRemix( by @Pattyboi I think I spelled his name right..he has taken over maintaining and pushing updates to the stellar ASKP kernel with his own tweaks added in) things have never been dull in development for Galaxy Nexus but have also just recently gotten pretty exciting for users and devs alike. And the community (as you can probably already tell) has become one of the friendliest around. And there is TONS of info all over in here. Lap it all up, and have fun!
