I have the same problem. My Arc S connects to my router and everything works for some time. Suddenly, while surfing or facebooking, the information isn't loading any more even when the phone says its still connected. WiFi-Icon in statusbar is still active. Only way to reconnect is to turn WiFi off and on again.
I tried the WiFi-fix application for ICS which was mentioned in some threads on xda but it didn't help.
Stock ICS 4.0.4 firmware, baseband 72, stock kernel from ICS 4.0.4

Does a reboot solve the problem?

Only for about a half hour, then the problem happens again.
Edit: Not a half hour, every 10 minutes or less.
Then it looks like some app or service is interfering with wifi.. Do you have any network related apps installed? (lik vpn or tethering apps or something lik that)

Are you using the 4.0.4 FR version? If so, try flashing another version of ICS like the Mobitel Slovenia version.
The wifi reportedly works better in this version.
Swyped from my SE Xperia arc (LT15i) using Tapatalk 2
No I'm using the Slovenian version.
I had the problem with official 4.0.3, leaked 4.0.4 and now official Slovenian 4.0.4.

The wifi problem in ICS is reported by many!
Please wait with patience for Sony to solve the problem or till someone comes up with a fix!

I have this exact same mentioned problem on my galax s3 and 4.0.4.
Really would like a fix soon, glad its a common problem should get some more attention.
I'm on a belkin router and connect to the apple time capsule.
What I have found is the main network in my household is Home which is hidden, and has added security and this problem occurs. And then we have a second network that isn't hidden for guests and visitors, when I connect to it I havn't experienced the problem. So are the others with the problem connecting to a hidden network? Maybe ICS looses the hidden networks or something.
I had the same problem on my Neo V! I solved it by switching my WI-Fi router to b\g mode! and since that I don`t have any problems)))
P.s. Sorry for my bad english((

CleanRom 3.5 and wifi issue

Anyone else with this rom had any issues with reconnection to wifi after restart? When i restart my phone, the wifi is turned on, but it doesn't connect till i go in and tell it to connect to my home wifi. It shows that its still a saved connection too. I experimented a little and noticed its only on the 5g band and that the 2.4g band seems to work fine.

It has been mentioned multiple times: there is a known issue with 4.2.1 based ROMs reconnecting automatically to 5Ghz bands. All of them.

Do you mean 4.1.2? Because this isn't 4.2.1.
For the OP - I haven't had any issues connecting to the WiFi on CleanRom 3.5. Just did a reboot for the heck of it and it obtained an IP right away and worked flawlessly.

are you using a 5g wifi band or 2.4g?
I have the same issue on all 4.1.2 roms I've tried including stock and clean rom.
What router are you using? I have an Asus rt-n66u with custom firmware.

Static ip won't help, yes you can connect to wifi, but cannot get connection to internet. This is a bug of android, and ITs in Princeton univ. had some investigation. It's due to renew and release of address. 4.2 should have fixed it
