first of all yes you need a rooted wfs with S-Off or unlocked bootloader. If these are all done then you can go ahead to install a custom rom and yes, unloacking the bootloader voids the warranty
before installing do a backup of your stock rom, you can do so by going in to recovery and making a backup of everything, this backup can be restored any time you want.
for installing a rom follow the steps as mentioned by the thread author.

please provide full step by step guide for unlocking bootloader, backup my stock rom and install custom rom on my wfs

[Q]Installing custom rom !

What is the simplest way to install a custom rom. Can i just go directly into nandroid backup and then install custom rom from there and i'm done?
Please, i'm totally noob so let me know. Thanks !
I'am not sure, but the answer is NO. Everyone ROM has got his own requirements.
You should read the manual to ROM which you want to get.
but i can use nandroid backup to make a backup of my official rom right? and then recover it whenever i want?

Yes, it's also wise to put the file on your pc in case you boot loop or something happens to your sd
I recommend researching whichever ROM you are thinking about installing thoroughly before flashing your first rom. Each different rom has specific instructions for flashing them. There is an excellent n00b guide for flashing a new rom to a T-mobile usa defy. Though that guide is specific to usa defies, it has an excellent step by step guide for flashing an eclair rom. It would be worth searching for and reading. It details the backup process very well.
If you plan on upgrading to 2.2, you should search for and read the guide about how to upgrade to 2.2 without losing downgradability (by higgsy, I think).

[Q] Help! How do I flash a rom?

Ok, so I just got an Rogers Xperia Play (r800a) a couple days ago and my bootloader is locked but I want to use the stock based roms. How do I flash a rom? So far I've rooted my phone and I have uninstalled/frozen a lot of stuff so my phone is running pretty fast right now.
To summarize what I said, I have a rooted phone with a locked bootloader, can someone just tell me how to get that clockworkmod thing and what to do to flash a rom?
Here is a link for CWM so that it'll get you started:

I suggest going here first, most ROM developers will have instructions on how to install their ROMs.

Thanks. I now have recovery installed. And the guide thing sad that it's possible to brick my phone so can someone give detailed instructions on the nandroid back up thing which lets you restore your phone to the way it is? My phone is in functioning good condition right now and I don't wanna freeze all the bloat again after the rom.

Boot into recovery, select backup and restore, backup
Hey guys, sorry to hi-jack the thread but it saves making a new one.
I bought a R800i a few weeks ago, and the bootloader says unlock allowed: yes
and was wondering where I could go to install ROMS and how I'd do it? Would I need Clockwork Mod aswell (the same one as above or a different one? )
Thanks!

[Q] Is it needed to unlock the boot loader if I want a backup ROM

First of all, I'm a mere beginner and newbie to Android ROM Development. Totally a beginner who doesn't even know what's the difference between Flashing ROMs and Installing ROMs (please tell that too). I want to ask whether it is needed to unlock the boot loader if I want a recovery of my stock ROM......
Simpler Question: is it necessary to void my warranty if I want a backup of my Stock ROM?

Flashing roms and installing roms are one and the same thing. My guess is that you can take your stock rom from Htc's RUU files. But if you want to learn more about android and how this beauty works, you must make experiments on your own phone (we all do). meaning that you need a rooted phone .

if you don't want to void your warranty than you can't backup recovery
simply because you need CMW Recovery to Backup,
and you need to unlock bootloader for installing CWMRecovery
that's it

I need a teacher to follow after unlocking bootloader

I will unlock bootloader today. I need a guide on how to install TWRP and custom rom
I want recommendations for best TWRP and best custom ROM

[Magisk] Root STOCK Rom or CUSTOM Rom

Hey guys,
currently I'm caring about my new redmi note 8 device to bring AICP to the device, this means:
1. unlock bootloader
2. flash TWRP
3a. Guide recommends to flash Magisk to get root
3b. I would prefer instead of 3a to Full wipe, flash AICP and then root with Magisk
My Question is now: Is 3b. a good choice or do I need to root the Stock Rom first? and then full wipe and follow 3b?
I simply would like to save some of the technical steps if possible
Best, dj

The guide have 3 tutorial in one ...
no need to root stock, it will be wiped anyway
Okay, this means, root is a ROM specific thing and not device specific, thanks
