[Q] Regarding flex-a100-reaper rom

since i just signed up i cant really post in the development thread anyways what i did was update the tab to stock ics, rooted, unlocked and flashed the flexreaper rom, what i didn't do was create a backup of the tab before flashing, if i wanted to go back to stock ics how would i do this? is it as simple as flashing the update.zip? or is there more to it then that?
on a side note if civato happens to read this, just want to mention that the link to the RF1-Default-Look is not working.

Yes...its as simple as flashing the update.zip
only thing is that when you flash the stock ics your bootloader will be relocked and you will have to go through the process again (which you should know isn't that difficult) to unlock it...there is a way to flash by removing some files from the stock ics rom...but i cant locate that method at the moment..

Do I really need my bootloader unlocked?

Im not such a fan of custom roms or custom kernels. I always stay on Stock roms, I dont really like to mess around with my phone other then rooting it and i also like to replace system apps from other phones I previously had, so I usually make nandroid backups if something goes wrong I just go back to a previous working backup.
So my quetion is guys... Do I really need to unlock my bootloader? If I brick my phone and need to reflash my stock rom do I need to have it unlocked? Or what would be another way of getting it back to life? Oh and finaly can I have CWM without been unlocked? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

No one "needs" their bootloader to be unlocked. We unlock it for extra functionality such as flashing custom roms. Since you don't care about that, why do it? No, you don't need an unlocked bootloader to flash back to stock. Yes, CWM can be installed with just root now. These are easy answers that you could find by searching around a little

Thank you bro, but I swear I searched as a matter of fact I have been reading different posts for two days but no one specified this. There is a guide on how to flash CWM but it says you need bootloader unlocked and as of now I still havent found a guide on how to flash stock roms to our Xperia Play so thats why I posted these questions. Im gonna try and find the ways of flashing custom roms and cwm...

installing cwm couldn't be any easier... Just download cwm installer from somewhere Google it and that's it... Or try xparts from the market which is the same app but is just the latest version but I saw people having problem with it maybe they fixed the problem

Yeah thanks alot bro, I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390771 (for future refrence). Now I only need the stock rom flashing... Im reading something about flashloader I think im close.

Flashtool is a great program for flashing stock roms...give that a try

[Q] Is custom recovery necessary to maintain root

Hi there!
I know i have to search through the forums to see if there is a post similar to the one i'm about to write now. So if there is a similar post like this out there, i have not seen it and i apologize.
An now to the core of my problem:
Basically the title is my question. I have just flashed a stock RUU on my phone and updated it via HTC's OTA, but i want to gain root and still maintain the ability to get OTA updates - Which, as far as i know, requires a stock recovery image. Is it possible to flash the stock recovery after gaining root-access and keep the phone rooted?

Yes, you flash a custom recovery to obtain root that's good, after this you flash back the stock recovery you still be rooted, the root is in the rom and not in the recovery !

Thanks a lot, that's awesome. By the way, now that i have updated to stock 4.1.1, is the root procedure precisely the same as it was with ICS; Can i use precisely the same superuser zip and unlock token i used when the phone was on ICS?

Yes you can ! Its exactly the same .... and to give you a tip :
After you flashed the custom recovery please do a nandroid backup from the backup & restore option in the recovery, if you want to change things to the rom after that you have a safe backup to go back to when you need to update or have any other problem. :thumbup:

I know, i certainly intend on doing just that. When i read the post on how to get the phone back to stock and i read the part about how to do it from a nandroid backup, i seriously face palmed myself! Back when i was still using my HTC Desire, i never considered the nandroid backup because the stock software was so incredibly bad that i never wanted to go back. But now i will, my experience with the stock software is far better on the One X.

[Q] i747 Root or not

Hi guys,
My beloved S3 is is > 1 year old now.
I was always afraid\skeptical of rooting it as it lead to void warranty
Since it is already > 1 year old and warranty does not come into picture now, I thought why not give it a try now..
I see many S3 users are more than efficient after root.
Should I go for it ?

Rooting is a must. I went for root the day i got the phone and went reading up on rooting the S3, roms, etc. before i even got the phone.

first thing i did when i got my s3 in april was root it. and my dad has the same phone i have, and i have to say having mine rooted vs his stock, mine gets so much better battery life. and is just one of the perks of rooting other than overclock and underclock and custom roms and stuff.

...and Sammy phones are fairly fool proof when it comes to rooting and flashing

Yes, it seems like we have many 1 click tools to do this.
I just want to go slow, I want to unlock the boot loader first & then uninstall all the att crap..
that should free up some space n RAM..
Later on I can install custom ROM's and Kernels if need be..
This can be done right...

First thing you should do is make a backup of your stock unmodified system before you remove or erase anything or install roms. And also make a copy of the backup to a second location like a computer.

S3 doesn't have a locked bootloader. Reality just have to flash a rooted stock firmware in Odin and you are good to go.

3) then uninstall all the useless apps which came along with att
4) if required i will flash custom rom and kernel else i will stick with everything stock..
The reason I want to stop at unlocked boot loader is that as of now I already have 4.1.1, and I have read everywhere that 4.1.2 isn't much of a revolution so why flash a custom ROM. People might not agree with this but I tend to think so...
Obviously any suggestions are appreciated....:fingers-crossed:

Don't even think about touching anything dealing with bootloaders.
The i747 comes with an unlocked boot loader, the only one that is locked is the Verizon S3.
There have been various bricked S3 by trying to "unlock" something that isnt locked.
Read read read and search and research.

No I am not talking about just backing everything up with titanium backup. I am talking about backing up your stock untouched system with a custom recovery like twrp or clockwork recovery. After root you will most likely have a custom recovery installed like twrp. You can boot into this custom recovery and backup the entire system in its current state, because sometimes when certain system apps are removed you will get force closes and bootloops and the only way to restore your phone is by restoring a backup, flashing a rom or pushing a system to your phone via odin.
Removing stock apps that came with your phone can be risky at times because they are often tied to other systems. Search to see what apps are safe to remove and a system backup is probably good.

Do not attempt to unlock the bootloader! It is unlocked already. Your proper plan of action should be:
Backup everything possible (MyBackup is what I used)
Root phone (several methods available, choose one)
Install custom recovery. Rom Manager can install CWM for you, while goo manager can install TWRP (I prefer twrp)
Follow instructions for installation off any Rom you download (found in the first post of that Roms thread, usually before you get to the dl link)
Before flashing or attempting any mod, make a back up of everything. And read the directions

The cool thing for you will be all the awesome tweaks and mods that have out in the last few months because you device is a little elderly. Check out the definitive mod thread in the T-Mobile S3 forum. I forget which thread its in. You can atleast double battery and speed and 20x the customization options. Once you flash a new rom it becomes a habit called flashaholism so be aware. My name is Bubba Fett and I'm a flasaholic.

Finally I did it,, My Galaxy S3 is rooted successfully..

-Backup using CWM is taken, a copy is there on Internal Memory, External Memory Card and My Computer
Next step-
-Remove bloatware and free some storage..
-Any idea which is the best stable ROM as of now for 4.2.2

There is no best ROM it all depends on the user. Feel free to try any of them. Just make a Nandroid backup each time before you flash a new one and follow the devs installation instructions. Good luck and have fun!

I've tried Cyanogenmod, PAC, and AOKP in the past week. All three are butter smooth and stable. You will have to cycle the battery a couple of times for it to fit in (I noticed upon initial flash, battery life was terrible).

[Q] Re-Root after OTA - Wiping involved?

I have a very brief question:
My M8's bootloader is unlocked, it was rooted + S-OFF and I modified the CID. I also had a custom recovery installed but decided to stay with the stock one in order to get original HTC OTA updates. So, after a recent OTA: Root is gone.
My question: When I flash a new bootloader and apply the root (mediafire) - Will any data be wiped in the process? Just asking because I don't have an (easy) method of backuping at the moment... no Titanium without root, no nandroid without custom recovery

Easy
1, flash custom recovery
2, flash superuser zip
3, look HERE for the backup corresponding to your software number
4, there will be a stock recovery contained within the backup package, flash it
5, you will be as you were but rooted and with a stock recovery and you will be able to receive otas as long as the conditions HERE are met :good:
Obviously the next OTA will break root but u know what u are doing now lol

Yeah I most certainly know. My HTC Desire and GS3 wouldn't have survived that long if it was not for XDA-dev
But you know... at some point you have so much work to do you are really just glad if the stuff works reliably. But then again... All those tweaks and nice themes... It's just soo tempting...:laugh:
