By the time they roll it out, you will be on to an upgrade anyway, relax.
No. This phone will never receive an LTE signal. Ever.

There is no LTE radio in the T999, HSPA-42 is plenty fast though.

This!
It took year a really long time for Verizon to roll out their LTE service where I live. This may or may not be the case for you but T Mobile isn't even set to start rolling out until next year. In the meantime enjoy the current GS3 with hspa and get the benefit of better battery life

Ok, so I'm in Houston Texas and I had emailed sprint to check if LTE service or coverage will be available in my area and I received this email back .
So my question is, does this mean even when they turn it on, will I not be able to get LTE on my phone in my home area?

It simply says that LTE is currently not available in your area...and to keep checking their websites for any updates of its availability where you are. In short terms, Sprint sucks where you live.

I agree, 3g sux here and I'm so tempted to give sprint back their galaxy nexus and go back to my old phone. It was for some reason a better connection than what I get now .

I'm thinking I may go back to my old phone then, I got this phone on the 22nd and 3g has been horrible on it.
I'm able to get LTE connection near downtown but only there 2 days a week and is not worth it if that's only where I can get it! :-(

So I was in a tmobile store today and was told that both the note II and Gs3 will receive a software patch to enable the lte radio. Asked the question like 10 different ways as I've read online that the gs3 will NOT be let cab able.
the internal phone workings are a little above my head...but i was told that the tmobile sg3 is the same as say the att model which does have the lte radio,
So, does that sound right that the SG3 is future proof and will be able to enable LTE?

and that was from day 1? Obviously there has been debate about this on this forum and people much smarter than I have agued that it will never get LTE...
do you remember if there is something that has to be enabled? Or if say where I live they activate the LTE tower, boom it will work?
Its been a while so I dont remember the details, but I am convinced that
1. We will NOTget LTE one our GS3.
2. It doesn't really matter. By the time the majority of us get LTE in our market, we will have moved on to an even better phone! Also, most of us will get hspa+42 soon which for now is more than sufficient for almost everyones needs.

I think these threads need to be shut down. There are a number of other threads exactly like this that holds the correct information. Thanks Doc
I agree with Doc, we'll probably be on better phones by the time we have decent LTE reception -- and I'm happy enough with the DC-HSPA+ modem.
IMHO, they will likely release a Galaxy S3 [4G] LTE as an interm between the S3 and the S4. WRT LTE, all I know is what I see on Wikipedia's snapdragon article. Which isn't very clear on details. Also numerous MSM8960 phones /w LTE exist but do we even know if it's on die, let along bothering to crack open an AT&T and T-Mobile GS3 for a little hardware compare?
So afye reading this I have a question.... if you guys are saying that our phones arent capable then why on my phone (running frosty jb v7) are there 2 system apps called LTESettings.apk and LTETest.apk??? Are these not for our phone and are just ther e due to it being a port? And if so can I safely remove them so they are taking away ram and battery? Thanks in advanced

Maybe I am the only one. LTE is not very efficient. I am happy with 3g+++.Tmo 3g super sized is a very good system. My company provided LTE hot spot sucks bandwidth like no other. Be careful what you ask for.
Source: http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/8/38...aunch-refreshed-galaxy-s-iii-with-lte-support
At a CES briefing today, T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray revealed to The Verge that the company will launch a refreshed version of Samsung's wildly popular Galaxy S III that features support for its upcoming LTE network — a network that has now been confirmed to launch commercially any week now. It's not yet known whether the phone will be marketed as a new, distinct model or as a silent and unadvertised swap on store shelves.
Though the Galaxy S III that's presently being offered by T-Mobile does not support LTE, the slightly newer Galaxy Note II does; Ray tells us that it'll require a "small" software update to enable it once it's available. No other LTE-capable phones have been announced by T-Mobile yet, but it's likely that we'll see some announcements as the first markets go live across the first and second quarter of the year.

for what? lte consumes more power and isnt any faster than what youre already using. in fact, some would argue it is slower...
...and the Vibrant story repeats itself. T-mobile sure loves doing this. At least my unlocked T999 is ready to switch when I get the money to do so.

I dont think its that simple, I believe you need the hardware as well as the modem firmware, just flashing the modem could potentially brick your phone.
I get like 1.6 megs down already. It's more than fast enough.

I'm good with mine. I get almost 20 megs in the dallas metro plex. Tmobile could had the lte turned off like the note 2 and they turn it on when it was available. But they decided to make more money with a new release like the vibrant.

I guess once this phone is released, there needs to be a detailed teardown (anandtech / ifixit) that compares the old T999 with the new T999L.
Hopefully there are no hardware differences, and everything is firmware/rom related.
If there are hardware differences, maybe we can start frankensteining a broken T999L (i.e. cracked screens etc) with a working T999 LOL
Hey guys a buddy of mine sold me his note 2 from tmobile. It is unlocked and working on my att service. My question is what can i do as far as the slow download speeds? I have LTE service and yes i know its not enabled on the tmo version yet but is there any way to get better download speeds? Flash a certain rom or flash a certain modem maybe? I wish the tmo version can be turned into a att version.....
What sorts of speeds are you getting exactly?
I'm getting around 1-2 mbps... is that normal on att hspa?
Wondering if I need to set the apns? I currently only see one option....

I'm not sure what the rules are on self bumping questions, but you waited 24 hours, which in my opinion is fine. Again, I don't know the rule, if there is one, but by my logic your actions were fine.
I wish I could help, I have the opposite problem. I have an ATT S3 unlocked, but I'm on T-mo. I only get EDGE. I'm selling the S3 on ebay though, I'll probably grab the Note 2. Although the March 15th "launch" of the SIV may make me hold off. Or get the Note 2 and use the return period to see if the SIV launches.
afaik the stock ROM doesn't have LTE built in, even on T-mo. Doesn't T-mo use the AWS split 1700/2100 for 4G too? That'd render the frequencies available non-compatible.

Hi
I have a T mobile galaxy S3 that I would like to upgrade to the T999L. I am looking to purchase it used and just sell my current phone, but there are slim pickings on ebay and the like. To open up my search I was considering getting the ATT variant of the Galaxy S3 LTE, but am not sure if that will work on the T-Mobile 4g bands.
Any info would be much appreciated

As long as you're familiar with ODIN and know how to read, you will be fine. My caution is because it is not your regular ODIN. It literally was used internally by T-Mobile to test LTE... Don't even get me started on the existence of the T999L and how much of a scam T-Mobile pulled.
