[Q] CM9 vs CM10? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which is better, CM9 or CM10?
With all the hard work of the FXP team, it's extremely difficult to choose between CyanogenMod 9 and CyanogenMod 10
I was wondering, if through the power of the XDA forums, people would be so kind as to help me out a bit, maybe offer an opinion, or tell me the benefits of each.
Obviously I've read through both threads and found problems and errors, but due to the constant updates, I never know if these errors still exist or not
Hopefully someone can help me decide between CM9 and CM10 or advise me to stick to my Sony stock based rom at the moment
Thanks!
- Jack

There are total three versions released by FXP.
1. CM7 - Ginger bread
2, CM9 - Ice Cream Sandwich
3. CM10 - Jellybean
Right now CM9 is in beta and CM10 is in alpha. Where CM7 is in stable mode means everything is working and most of the problems got solved.
Regarding CM9, its laggy compare to CM10 - my personal experience. But CM9 it is in beta, where it fits for daily use.
Regarding CM10, this ROM is in alpha, with fixes (posted in CM10 thread) it is also suit for daily use.
What I want to say is stay with GB, flash CM10 once the rom moved to beta version or flash CM7 for fast and smooth ROM. :highfive:

One thing I like about ICS is the action bar though
Are there any app incompatibilities like apps that only work with ICS+ or do they all work with GB?

Cm10 is better
Sent from my Xperia Arc using Tapatalk 2

Why would you say that is?

CM9 cuz its more stable than CM10.

I use CM 9.1 because it supports flash... CM10 is a lot more fluid than CM9, but lack of flash support is a huge deal for me.

I chose to try out CM10 and I don't think I'm going back
If you install cm10, there is a simple way to get flash working just as it does on Ics, tested it myself with flash and dolphin browser if you're interested I can link you to the apk

sorry but...Neither One Nor the Other .in My opinion!

What I like most about JB/CM10 is the options in the notification bar, like quick reply, call (for texts), and call back or message (for calls) not to mention the incredible battery life i get when my phone is in standby (i think it averages 0.5%/h, which is much lower than all the other roms I tried, for GB and ICS). But I'm using an xperia pro (since we share a forum) so it might not be the same... but one thing i don't like about CM10 is the camera (have they fixed that in fxp138?) and the random crashes every now and then. But it's not that bad.

If you want tasted ICS and GB look, just try flash Jelly Sandwich by Maxxio 1998. Just stable... Use until CM10 get the beta version...

Jelly Sandwich and Xperia ICS & JB Remix is builded on stock ICS. Currently Im using Xperia ICS & JB Remix and it's great! A lot of free ram, zero lags and no bloatware apps like : Timescape and FB.

JB or CM?

So here I am planning to flash CM9 this weekend, and of course JB gets released! Not that its a bad thing of course, but it just makes my decision that much harder. Does anyone have suggestions as to which I should go with and why? Please only post constructive advice with some facts behind your answer, no "JB FTW!" comments since this is a serious question.
Jelly Bean. The only thing I miss from CM9 is the integrated LED notification chooser. Light Flow isn't working correctly for me on JB.
For all the reasons here: http://www.android.com/whatsnew/ and more JB is a no brainer.
Maybe you should flash both and decide for yourself! I would go with cm cause jb is pretty stock rite now and if you want options jb will come up short vs cm..jb is very nice I ran it for a few hours but I can't handle the stock feel..
I find that most of the customizations in cm9 and aokp don't get used by me.
I have been running between aokp and cm9 for months. They are great smooth stable roms with great customizations.. If those tweaks are something you are really into then maybe stay.
Project butter is no lie.. JB is (for me) smoother in every day actions than cm9/aokp. New notification ui is great. Google Now is awesome and practical. You can still run custom kernels and over clock and have root... Just not those more in depth tweaks yet.
JB is the future... May as well go there as soon as possible.

Coming from CM9 to JB, I'd say CM9 for features, JB for speed.
There are some CM9 features that I really miss on JB. T9 dailer, lock screen weather, and lock screen shortcuts. But JB is really buttery smooth.
That being said, once the source code of JB is released next month and CM9 is updated to JB, I'll go back go CM9.
Are custom launchers working on JB?
I'm on cm9 but damn keen to try JB. Started d/l last night but stopped it at 10mb down. I'm stuck using 3g atm and a 250mb d/l will use up about a quarter of my months data.
Nova works on jb... Apex crashes for me.. But stock jb is smoother than both.

Once the JB source is released it will be in CM. I installed JB to give it a try but for the long run I am going to run CM.
I liked JB but there are still some apps that I couldn't get working most notably GTA3.

Nova has some quirks on JB. I went back to the stock JB launcher for the time being.
JB for now. The new features are amazing and it's butter smooth.

Jelly Bean. MUCH smoother, Live Wallpapers are lag free again (FINALLY), much better boot animation (CM is way too choppy, and the stock ICS one is just... no.) better camera, Google Now is freaking amazing, I could go on.
I hadn't even tried live wallpapers. Very nice. I have never been able to use them due to lag.

Arconium Gingerbread, because it is based on Gingerbread, that's all, no gimmick "SUPER FAST SUPER STABLE FASTER THAN LIGHT".
Go gingerbread until an official JB update from sony or fixed ICS BY SONY.
(+DoomKernel V22)

May only be an alpha but it's so fast, it's jelly bean and all the bugs are instantly fixed by besttt. The legend. New updates every Monday from fxp. Besides, cm is pretty much pure android. Its beautiful.

You can use some ROMs with jelly bean tweaks, status bar, libs...etc.
Below are some of them:
If you don't care about graphical user interface ,defintely JJ hybrid rom is great (fast - compatible with games - has ROM control as well) ,few bugs though like wifi hotspot http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1537717
If you care about having nice user interface with reasonable game performance with lots of free ram available you can try Jelly sandwich http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1836993 or the Remix http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1884958
Also Xperia Purness worth a try as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1788701
For the Kernel i always advice to use stock kernel in order to avoid battery drain issues.
Regards

For jb try paranoid and cm10
try all and you will get the answer
but i vote for CM10 or Jelly remix
forget about ICS and JB. Try GB X-gamer + doomkernel v22

[Q] [Arc S] Which is best mod ROM? Stable, light, fast, secure?

Hi everyone,
I bought an Arc S for 10 days.
t 'a great terminal, but I can not notice that with the stock rom, after a small number of installed and apps moved to SD, the rom has some spots, lags, and the free ram (of his already poor) falls always below 100mb (and I do not use facebook, twitter, or whats'up Timescape real time notification).
I have root my phone, and removed some unused system app. I have used "autostarts" to disable unuseful app that starts at the boot, and using a task killer to free memory. When I use the task killer (FAST REBOOT PRO) I have reached 160 mb free max.
At this point, I would switch to a modified rom because I read that there are stable versions, in which everything works fine (camera / video included).
What do you recommend?
It 's my main phone, and I need that everything works and that does not have bugs.
I use it to take pictures, video, navigate 3G/WiFi, and as a navigator using Navigon.
What rom do you recommend to install for this phone fully functional but more powerful (of course ICS or Jelly Bean)? and Which kernel?
XperienceD said:
All these threads below are asking the same thing, "What's the best", and the general consensus is that there isn't a "best", it's all about personal preference. And given how many ROMs and kernels there are you'll be hard pushed to find someone that has been able to use them all to give a significant review between the differences.

If you leave as is, it's pretty good. A very little battery drain but if you know how to tweak it, it's even better.

I know about JellySandwich and I have to agree there is no problems whatsoever with JellySandwich but it's Ice Cream Sandwich based Rom with JellyBean goodies I was after a JellyBean Rom that supports with what I need. The unfortunate part is that there is no Official JellyBean Firmware for our devices so we have to hope that a custom can do it. But thanks for your analysis anyways
Arc Fusion 3.9 with FXP 147, only problem I have is gps (doesn't work)
I get 1.5 days in battery life with interactiveX and Sio
Light gaming and surfing the net and facebook
Tethering doesn't work on 147, However you can make it work with 145 with this wifi tether fix
Though I think there were problems with youtube on 145 (me thinks)
I use since few days JB V03 4.1.2 but with Fusion 3.9, and it seems to be good. wifi works great, hotspot also nice. 2g/3g normally.
battery is also good. I use 2g/3g all the time, and the battery works like 1,5-2 days which is good cause every previous rom i had was discharging during a day.

Thank you both for your ideas on Combo's I have tried both Combo's with an unfortunate result ... I should've stated because technically you were both right and Tethering does work. But on both USB Tethering works great no problems. But I unfortunately needed Wi-Fi Tethering which doesn't work on either. On one of them (Fusion 3.9, FXP 145 with Tethering Module) Does Pick up as working but no Data sends out. I have had to Revert back to stock LT15i ICS Rom because my internet in my home runs of tethering (Wireless Tethering). But seriously thank you both for your Ideas.

I'm using Xperia Ultimate HD 2, and I'm pretty happy with it, it's very stable and really smooth, smoother than anything I've tried so far, it's based on 4.0.4 which is the last ICS version before Jellybean, people say 4.0.4 is the best version of ICS overall. So the Xperia Ultimate HD 2 is a great Rom built on a great base. Obviously you want Jellybean features but I'm not sure on everything you want, but I have Google Now on here, and I think it's modded to look like JB, you should check it out on the Complete Rom list and see if it has what you want

[Q] Is CM10 based on JellyBean?
Sorry if that's a dumb question, I'm pretty new to this as well. I'm currently running XTX8. I tried XTX9 but it was very slow and laggy so I reverted back to XTX8. I wanted to try CM9.1 but couldn't get it installed, so just did a restore as it was late at night. It's just I didn't consider CM10 as I thought it was based on JB, and I wanted something that's stable and not still being 'developed' as such.
