[Q] Stuck In Boot Loop - Hboot Works - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Assuming you mean Recovery from the menu, it just reboots back to the HTC Incredible splash screen.

I had a friend's dinc here that acted like that. He did not have it rooted (it was running stock 2.3.4), and usb debugging was not enabled, so it was a bit of a tough nut to crack. We wiped it several times, I installed an RUU, but it just stayed stuck in the bootloop. In his case, the internal storage had gotten messed up, and some of the partitions were just gone. I ended up unlocking the bootloader via htcdev, as that was the only way to get any kind of root level access to the thing. From there, (using the now unlocked fastboot), I could flash clockworkmod recovery and boot into that. Due to the botched partitions, I still couldn't flash any .zip's from recovery, but it did give me root access via adb. From there, I was able to make the changes necessary to run the downgrade to Froyo, per the 'downgrade and s-off' guide. It was the downgrade to Froyo that got the thing booting again, though the internal storage is still messed up. Apparently, Froyo is small enough to fit inside whatever partition his dinc has decided to call 'system', though he hardly has any room to install apps now. I was able to install su via adb, so though he's now running a crippled dinc on Froyo, at least it's rooted.
I know that story probably doesn't help you a whole lot, except that maybe unlocking the bootloader using htcdev and installing a custom recovery that way might give you the access you need to fully wipe your dinc and get it going again.
Edit: Here;s the downgrade and s-off guide with instructions for unlocking hboot, if you decide to go that route:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258
Another edit: Oops, you're already s-off, so you should have lots of options here. I missed that earlier...

Well, If what they suggested does not work (it should) about 6months ago my incredible was stuck in a boot loop so I took out the battery, discharged the whole unit (take the battery out and hold the power button this will insure there is absolutely no electrical current) and stuck all of it in my freezer for 30mins..haha sounds crazy but Ive done it on 3 different HTC phones. Works EVERY TIME

.76 Hboot Issues

Hey guys,
I downgraded the 2.10 hboot on my Evo to .76, and I have done this countless times in the past on other Evo's. This one has turned out to be different. It only enters hboot and RUU mode. I ran several RUU's and it fails, which led me to find out that it has bad blocks due to the previous partitions being different stock. I am unaware of a way to repair bad blocks...Just thought I would double check.
BTW, only a few partitions will flash. The others have bad blocks and will fail, including hboot. I wanted to send this thing to HTC but with the hboot being ENG I don't think it'll help too much...
Any suggestions?

Ok. Tell me exactly what partitions flash

Ok I just tried flashing all the partitions I could find an image for. The only ones to successfully flash without an 'image update error' was microp and nv.
I ran 'fastboot oem partition_test' and it spit out so many bad blocks it would be ridiculous to post here.
Do fastboot boot recovery.img

RA recovery reboots to black screen, stock recovery does nothing.
You might have to bring it in man. Im running low on ideas.

No. The phones are done. Next time please read my post from a year ago before you try downgrading your Hboot before another phone gets burned.

[Q] Phone Stuck Operator Logo (no USB debugging)

Hi,
My HTC Desire HD is currently stuck at the operator logo screen. I've tried removing rebooting battery going into boot-loader, resetting factory settings but still no luck.
Also as there is no way for me to boot into the phone to turn on USB debugging to re flash what can I do.
I've tried fastboot via boot loader it doesn't recongise the device on the pc (as I believe USB debugging not enabled)
please help

How did you end up like this? adb works only with a fully booted rom and not in hboot. Factory reset deletes the usb debugging drivers, so you wont be able to use it now. You can use fastboot command to flash in fastboot usb.
Are you able to boot in hboot? and are you S-OFF? then try flashing a ruu from fastboot. Use the guide in my signature to help yourself...if you need further help, just let me know.

Yes can boot into Hboot, Yes I have unlocked my device via HTCdev.
I have tried installing custom roms but they all fail and I believe this is due to me not having root.
I have also tried the t-mobile stock RUU that has failed aswell from fastboot

ClockworkMod Recovery 5.8.1.5 counting up

The issue: Without fail when I choose Reboot Recovery from CWM it just starts counting up. I let it get to over 360000 once.
I found only 2 other similar reports across the whole web:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2004249
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850064
Neither got much attention.
I don't think I tried Reboot Recovery before I tried flashing a custom ROM. If I did it worked.
Steps taken from having a stock phone:
Ran EasyAceRootTool - it failed trying to push and run BusyBox (but CWM installation was successful)
Manual install of SuperUser from zip using CWM
Reboot
Custom ROM / gapps placed on SD card
Boot into CWM
Factory Reset / Dalvik Wipe
Reboot Recovery - This is first occurance of the counting.
I know now choosing Reboot Recovery at that step was wrong, but I was following ULTIMATE ACE GUIDE V9 by glevitan. It's list on page 4 is incomplete. It never mentions installing the ROM from zip.
I've had the CM7 ROM on my phone and am now running JellyTime. As already stated - choosing Reboot Recovery from CWM always goes into the counting. The only way out is to pull the battery.
I hope I'm providing enough information for Cyanogen to track down the bug.

I was having the same problem too, what fixed it for me is going back to stock and then re-rooting using the HTC Supertool V3
I then continued to Eng S-off with option 4 then flashed a recovery.img with adb in fastboot and I no longer had that problem. It also could be if your SD card isnt fully inserted

Since youve got S-OFF this hopefully shouldnt be too hard to fix. Follow the instructions here to flash 4ext recovery using a PB99IMG. Then go into recovery, full wipe, and flash a rom.
Thanks.... any other idea about a rom

Wow...so you added your imei.
Okay.Since you said it happens when you take the device off flight mode. There are some suggestions for you to try.
Check the OP of the rom you downloaded. Maybe it has bugs in the rom that causes your device to act that way. If not, then
What we want to do is flash a radio.img to see if it would fix your radio problem.
Note: Dont try this if you dont have S-Off or you could end up bricking your device.
But first we have to flash an Eng-Hboot in order to flash a radio.img
You can download it from Here.
Once finished, put it on your sd card and boot into bootloader. It would ask if you if you want update. Press volume up and it would reboot and complete the update.
Once its done you would see Eng-Hboot on top of your bootloader info.
Now we can continue to flashing a new radio.
You can find radios for the desire hd in the development thread.(sorry i couldnt give you a link). My ISP is having problems which is resulting poor connections.
If you have trouble finding a radio, just let me know.
EDIT: Here is the link to the radio thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295

Have you tried setting the model id via fastboot? Like say writting a new one to the device?
Just like how a new CID is written to a device?
