[Q] CM9 Flashing Error - HTC Wildfire S

I downloaded modpunk's CM9 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633198 with malvelc support version and have been trying to flash it but i keep getting error message (Status 7), i have re downloaded the zip more that 5 times to rule out the corruption issue and nothing. Any help will be appreciated.
I have the metro pcs version just incase some one wants to know.

Unzip whole file folder by folder.... See any file is broken or not... If broken replace it ... Rezip than flash...
Use 7zip..
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using xda app-developers app

Everything unzipped fine, re zipping and re testing... Nothing still a Status 7 Error

What is the file name?

Is 'status 7' the only thing that shows on the screen? Or some other stuff too? Please post it

To me it was perfect. I did the wipes before. I made these:
- format / system
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- wipe Dalvik cache

Does formatting the system erase the sd card or formats it? i don't want to loose whatever she has there.
I always do the last 3 you mentioned, and always have had no problems flashing a rom on my Optimus M.

no, with those not formatted wipe sd
but recommended format, saved in the pc photos, music and more, and then get back to

Ok i'll see how that goes.

Ok i re-tested with the old downloaded file..NOTHING, re downloaded again and tested...NOTHING. Did all the wipes necessary including System Format and nothing. Here goes the full error message:
Code:
Istalling update...
assert failed: getprop ("ro.product.device") == "marvelc" I I getprop ("ro.build.product") == "marvelc"
E: Error in /sdcard/cm-9.0.0-RC2-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA7-marvelc.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Alright i ran into this small but simple instruction and it worked so now im up and running. Thanks for everyone's help:
Code:
1- open the update-cm-9-20120423-nightly-p4wifi-signed.zip
2- open META-INF >com>google>android.
3- copy the updater-script to your desktop.
4- download notepad ++ from here http://notepad-plus-...oad/v6.1.2.html
5- after installing notepad ++ right click on updater-script that you previusly copy in your desktop and open with notepad ++
6- delete the first line
7- save it
8- delete the one from update-cm-9-20120423-nightly-p4wifi-signed.zip and copy the one from your desktop
9- close it and done

The first lines there are to check whether your device is really a marvelc, which it fails, because maybe your devices has different parameters. Therefore what you did is just to remove those lines and remove the verification.

[Q] please help - did i brick my phone using exploid method

I followed the “how to root the HTC My touch slide (exploid method) (updated 01.26.11)” to the letter. (theunlokr.com)
Everything worked well until I got into clockworkmod Recovery
I then wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode
Then I installed zip from sd card ( I select slidemeroot2.zip)
After going through the process I get an “installation aborted” message
E: Failure at line 64 symlink busybox SYSTEM:xbin/zcip
(something to that effect. I'm out of town til tomorrow to verify the exact error)
Im very frustrated and afraid I may have bricked the phone
I had to turn the phone off and am scared of turning it back on until I have a fix

thats the kinda of stuff i saw when i had custom mtd partitions set up. that stuff happens as a result of not enough memory to write to. try flashing a custom cyanogenmod rom like cm6. they are almost half the size of any rom based off of stock

There is a thread in the dev section on how to setup custom mtd partitions. Basically you just assign memory where you want it. If you want stock roms you should assign the normal mtd setup (given in mtd partitions thread). Oh, you'll need s-off though. There is a guide for that too in the dev section. Its actually sticked at the top. Glad i could help

wiping dalvik cache problem

when i first click wipe dalvik cash before i say yes it says E:unknown volume for path [/sd ext] (i assume this is for apps2sd). then i say yes and it says dalvik cash wiped. (i dont use apps2sd)
after trying to wipe dalvik seems im getting stuck at the boot logo.
i clicked show logs to make sure and it says.
Code:
I: checking for extendedcommand...
I: skipping execution for extendedcommand. file not found...
E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
rm: can't remove '/cache/dalvik-cache': no such file or directory
rm: cant remove 'sd-ext/dalvik-cache': no such file or directory
Dalvik cache wiped.
E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
rm can't remove '/data/dalvik-cache': no such file or directory
rm: can't remove '/cache/dalvik-cache': no such file or directory
rm: cant remove 'sd-ext/dalvik-cache': no such file or directory
Dalvik cache wiped.
is it only trying to wipe my sd dalvik cache? or does it autally work.
no one knows why wiping dalvik freezes my device at bootscreen?
Dalvic-cache partions seems to be wrong or missed up. It can't seem to find the location. It needs to get fixed before you use it.

i had this problem once! in order to fix it you have to: put your SD card in an adapter, plug it into your comp, backup everything on the card you dont want to lose. after that, put your sd card back into your device, boot into recovery, go to mounts and storage, and format your sd card, AND your internal memory, it sucks that you have to lose everyhing on your internal, unless you back that up too, but this works 100%.
MODS: if you'd like to sticky this please do. Ive seen multiple situations of this problem, and this fix works every time! thanks!

Delete the PC10IMG off of your SDcard....
And you're posting in the wrong section. This is for DEVELOPMENT.
sorry... can i move this?
how can i remove that .zip file, only with an mini sdcard convertor to my laptop?
If you have adb set up then type:
adb reboot recovery
this will reboot your phone into recovery and then you can flash a backup or a new rom to boot up.
hope this helps and good luck!

Could always just boot into your ROM and USB mass storage then remove it. Or take the card out and put it in a PC and delete it.
Or if you have the SDK you can /adb rm <file> . or /adb reboot recovery .
thnx for the fast replys and the feedback!!

After wiping everything you rebooted with nothing in your /system, /boot, /data partitions so how can you expect to see anything except a white screen.
Its not written anywhere in the guide to reboot at the 2nd step.
Delete PC10IMG.zip from your sdcard as suggested above and reboot into recovery via bootloader.
And follow the steps exactly as stated.

Why did you post your question in this thread? - it has NOTHING to do with Android Development!!!
Next time post/ask in the General Questions thread if you have issue like this.
P.S. Run Rom Manager and download/run Virtuous ril Automatcher to fix ril issue.
You better delete or move this thread asap before the ROM Mistress finds this or you will get a nice infraction
sorry for misplacing the thread,
but your suggestions doesnt solve my problem, as soon i match the ril with the latest radio, dataconnection doesnt work anymore
if i goto the APN settings, i get an error about missing sim card
so only an older radio with older ril works
or the latest radio with older ril works also, but not that good...
doesnt mather if i use ril matcher or manual overwrite...
dont use ril matcher for me it just bugs out everything, which is also why the thread was closed..
Make sure you have the right radio for your area. Some areas don't like certain radios. Also, its better to have a T-mobile us radio for the G2 and the Desire Z with the other ones.
When you wipe all data and system, you've wiped the rom off the Phone so expect it NOT to start up to anything but that white screen.
Make sure you always remove the PCIMG w.e folder at all times if youre not a adb user ,to get to the recovery . Common sense, place it in a memory card slot for your computer or some other device and just delete it.
And yeah, you should've posted this in the Q&A section.
Good luck.

how to flash bionic cow v7

how to flash bionic cow v7? help me
Get 7zip. Put part 1&2 into one folder. Extract part one. Part 2 will extract itself. Select all the things in the folder and zip it. Go into cwm recovery if you have it and clear chach, data and dalvik chach. download the zip file. Thats it but dont forget to do a nandroid(backup) first just incase something goes wrong.

Just take a look at the 1st thread in the Bionic Cow ROM V7. It stated clearly.
I'm having problem installing bionic cow.
It says.

E:Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip (No space left on device)
Installation aborted.
have you wiped the system before installing the rom? (backup first! this will erase all the data)

[Q] Ext partition error. Unable to wipe data, install zips and restore backups

Okay, this error have been annoying me the whole day. I have a Xperia SL rooted with .55. Everything was working completely great. Today I just tryied to restore a backup with CWM recovery, and I got this error.
Code:
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p12
I can't wipe data and I can't install any MOD or ROM properly because of that.
The most strange thing is that I don't even have a ext sd slot. I don't know why I'm getting this error.
I've been searching for fixes and all I got was completely random fixes from people that mostly doesn't even know how did they fix it. Even though, those doesn't work for me.
* I figured out that when I go on FORMAT /DATA, after that, I can wipe data, and I can (re)install the room again without any error. The problem is after I reboot the system, the error comes back, and I need to format /data if I want to install anything again without errors.
Try flash .ftf with flashtool. Wipe all.

why you wanna try to format in PC? if u format (regularly) in PC , it will only format your sdcard (mnt\sdcard). the mmcblk0p12 is the \system partition. u need to somehow format it first, via fastboot, or try via cwm to format \system.
and give more explanation bout the condition of your phone.. ie: rom, kernel, locked/unlocked bootloader.
i too, once, messed up my \data partition (which it's mmcblk0p14). i fixed that by using fastboot

Like i said, it's a. 55 rooted with stock Rom. Boot loader unlock alowed: yes. I tryed every kind of fix in cwm already and nothing works.
Something I never tryed is via fastboot. How do I proceed with that?
Sorry, my android life just started yesterday, I don't have much knowledge
EDIT: Ok I solved. Actually it's not like a fix, it's just like putting a silver tape to handle the problem. For some reason I'm able to advance restore system backup via CWM recovery. Every time that I do that, my CWM recovery is fully functional again, i can install mod, rom, etc. But, when I reboot into system again, the problem comes back, but I can still use my android without any problems, I just can't install anything via CWM recovery. So basically, now, every time that I want to install something in recovery, first I need to advanced restore system, and than install the rom, mod or whatever. Than I backup again in case I want to install anything else in the future, to repeat the same procedure with the last backup.
I was just having some problems when I was trying to restore the system with a md5 missing error... something like that. I solved this problem by just creating a file.txt in the backup folder and than renamed it to nandroid.md5. Magically it was fixed.
