Hi everyone,
I am new (noob) user of XDA Deceloppers. If this thread is posted in the wrong category, I'm sorry but I did not know which one to chose D:.
To start, I have a Galaxy Nexus GSM. It is rooted. Stock ROM and stock Kernel.
It is running an OTA 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.
I recently installed a Skinomi wet applicated screen protector on my Gnex. I watched a lot of videos on how to apply wet applicated screen protectors. I am very prudent with applying those stuff. I followed all Skinomi's instructions. I know I did everything right. After applying it, I waited two full days (48 hours) before booting my Gnex back up.
Now, the problem. My volume button is getting weird. Pressing down is flawless, but when I press up, it works only 1/2. The rest works fine. I dont know why it gets like that.
The second problem. I have all the accessories that came with the phone, but not the receipt. I bought it used...
I emailed Skinomi and the seller for help, but no reply up to date.
I love this phone but... this problem is pretty annoying.
Please help me!

Yeah, I knew that, but after reading a lot of success from others, I wanted to try. This would be my lastvl time with wet screen protectors. Too much to worry for it, and its expensive. Any solution guys?

See if you can take the battery out and leave the phone in a ziplock bag packed with rice for a few days.
Or you can try taking the battery out and using a hair dryer to blow hot air into the volume rocker.
Was this a full body protection kit or just the screen? A ton of people have had issues with the power button and volume rocker after applying a wet screen protector, and I have no idea why these companies don't tell you to cover both with a piece of tape or something before hand, as water getting into the crevices of the device is never a good thing.

Thanks for a fast response
I will try to put my phone in rice, because hairdryer might be too strong.
Its a screen only protector.
They never told me to tape the buttons! What a good idea.
What would be the worst solution if everything fails?
Is replacing the volume flex hard?
Im so scared!!! I love my phone so much. :'( please help me!!!!
Same thing has been happening with my phone for 6 or so months now. Spilled a small amount of water on my phone. Wiped it off and everything works fine but the volume up button is very finicky, not a huge problem just have to tap up 2 or 3 times sometimes to get the volume on.

Still using your phone like that?
I really respect you as you can use your phone like that. I just can't stand it. Help!
My recent move
I just bought a new flex volume cable off ebay (cannot link yet, don't have the permission). The seller is 123phone.
I am pretty sure that the cable is damaged, and 5$ is worth a try. Does anyone here tried to solder it? It will be my first time soldering a flex cable, but I have already dont some soldering before. Any tips for the replacement of the flex cable?
Thanks for helping guys. I'm really stressed :S
tonytober, I have the exact same issue, only the volume up rocker and it intermittently works.
Did you try to install the flex volume cable, did it work?

Sorry for a late reply. Yes I replaced the flex cable and now it works fine.
I will never buy a wet screen protector anymore. Worriness for nothing!
Replacing the flex is not that hard and can be found on eBay for under 8$ so it was pretty fine for me.

I also need to replace mine but have never soldered before. Can you advise how you did it and what tools i would need? is it just the 3 soldering points? i saw the volume flex cable is cheap enough on ebay, its the soldering im worried about!
Thanks

Soldering is not hard unless you shake a lot. Lol!
For soldering, you need a soldering iron, some lead and your brain (actually, just be careful not to burn yourself).
Sold soldering promoter could help (it's a paste that you could put on the phone to help the lead stick on the phone)
Watch out to not let the iron on the phone too long (stop soldering every 10 seconds lets suppose, rest 10 sec, solder 10 sec) as you don't want to damage your logic board to repair an 8$ ribbon!
So yeah.
Open the soldering iron, let it heat up (2 minutes to be safe and chill)
-Heat up the spots where you have to solder on the Gnex's board (3-5 seconds)
-Apply some paste with a Q-tip or a toothpick on the heated spot on the Gnex's board
-Here's a tricky part: use BOTH hands for this (only "hard" part which is not hard, just be careful to not use too much lead):
One hand holds the soldering iron and apply heat on Gnex's board, while the soldering iron's tip is STILL on the Gnex's board, with the OTHER hand, apply lead DIRECTLY on the spot where you need to bond the ribbon-board with the lead. Just put enough that it sticks.
**Tip: When the liquid lead between the ribbon+board (where you soldered) hides the space between them (like glueing paper), blow on the liquid lead. It will make it bond one shot and Voila, it is done.
Just do it nice and slow if it is your first time. The only dangers:
-Don't burn yourself, don't kill yourself. I'm not responsible for any injuries, or Death. ...
-Don't burn the Logic Board (like I told you, 10 seconds solder, 10 seconds cooldown...)
-Don't oversolder (If you boot up with oversolder you might bond two connections and short your phone's Logic board and... your phone will RIP.
In case if you oversolder, don't panic, lead is like a magnet to the iron. Just take your soldering iron and heat up the lead. The iron will suck it up.
After that, take a damp cloth and wipe the soldering iron's tip. Don't burn yourself!!!
When everything's done, before you mount your phone, test it. Don't waste your time screwing and unscrewing the phone
If the phone works, clean the soldering iron's tip with a damp cloth when it is still warm-hot.
If the phone works, ENJOY!!!!!!!!
Hope it helps. Keep me updated with your phone.

Thanks a lot for the advice. It gives me more confidence to try it. Really annoyed that i didnt notice the volume cable was soldered onto the main board, i was following the wrong youtube video which was disassembling a different nexus variation
I'm glad you mentioned that the lead is applied to the soldering point, i always thought the a bit of lead was first melted onto the iron and then transferred onto the soldering point.
I'll give it a shot once i have all the parts and update the thread on the results
Thanks

No problem at all. The Gnex should rather be fixed than be thrown away, auch a good phone
Tell me when you did it! Hope you get it fixed soon. If something goes wrong or you have any questions, ask!!! Xda'a here for that.
Tony
I finally got round to attempting this and it ended up a failure
First of all i noticed i only had 2 soldering points (metal bits) on the main pcb board (the middle one was missing) and the new volume cable had 3, so the middle one must have been pulled off with the old volume cable, Anyway, i decided to go ahead and try soldering the 2 outer connections.
1st attempt, i managed to make the 2 connections, although it looked very messy. Tested them and the volume down button was working! unfortunately the volume up button was not. So i heated the iron up again and attempted to apply more solder to the connections hoping this would improve the connection. Result: both buttons not working! the whole area is black now on both the main board and the volume cable, so i must have damaged all the soldering points and broken the working connection in the process. i found the solder was sticking to the iron forming blobs of hot solder rather than where i wanted the connection to be made. i must have been doing something wrong
Hmm i think im just going to live without the buttons now and rely on the volume controls within the rom until the next nexus is out. Might even volume cable and attempt this again at that point.
Thanks a lot for your help anyway, it was useful experience!

My First Post! How's it going everybody! (Newb Alert)
I just purchased a Bell HTC Desire Z from a classified ad off of an older man who found that the phone wasn't fully functioning. The poor guy probably paid around $400CDN for the phone, but I ended up eventually buying it from him for $250.
Here is what is wrong with the phone:
1. Power Button-does not work, neither on or off...basically fully unfunctional and only way to turn phone off is battery pull...fun stuff! (planning on using the Teardown/Repair guide by verkion - recommended?)
2. The In-Call speaker (where you put your ear while talking on the phone) seems to have very limited sound, perhaps something has been destroyed on the inside, how all other sound mechanisms work, such as the external speaker and internal speaker w/ headphones. (planning on using the Teardown/Repair guide by verkion - recommended?)
3. The Digitizer, well parts of it (along the left edge of the phone when upright) are unresponsive, so called blind spots which when touched are unresponsive on the digital keyboard along with the home button (house shaped icon) - especially frustrating when browsing web pages because I have to click back like 10 times to get home... (planning on using the Teardown/Repair guide by verkion - recommended?)
4. It is a Bell branded phone, Locations does not work! however I have done the research on the forums and I think I can figure out the whole Rooting thing out, but advice is appreciated! (planning on using gtrab's FAQ for Dummies for the rooting, s-off, and de-branding)
Now...I am not really technologically inclined to the level most of you probably are, but I am good with my hands and really interested/curious about this whole mission I need to complete, so I can fix this phone myself instead of paying $100 for cell phone repair...plus its a nice challenge right?
Do you guys recommend that I take care, or at least attempt to fix the power button issue before I root the phone to a previous, unbranded firmware which will allow me to use Locations? This only makes sense right, because I am going to need the power button for that process?
I know this is a lot to ask, but I just need some pushes and shoves to get me on the right track to try and get this to work, so if it is technologically impossible or excessive...please let me know how I can fix 4 of these problems methodically in a safe and professional way!
Once again, I appreciate it.
Thanks in Advance
EDIT: My prediction is that the individual who originally owned this phone dropped it and as a result the digitizer, power button, and speaker were all affected...but of course I am no expert.
To me it sounds like the flex cable has been damaged. It would definitely cause all these things at once.
I'm pretty sure you need to fix the power button before rooting because you need the power button to actually root it.
Hmmm,
Never thought of that but it sure seems like a better diagnosis. The flex cable originates in the bottom half of the phone in the same compartment that the z hinge is found right?
It is also the flexible strip that runs through the middle of the phone when the hinge is half-way positioned, connecting the lcd/digitizer to the main motherboard of the phone?
I geuss replacing the flex cable would still involve the Teardown/Repair, however I dont think I will need to replace a power button, speaker, or digitizer IF!...that is the case.
Any other ideas on this?

Yes thats the flex cable, it is built into the pcb behind the lcd, so the whole pcb has to be replaced AFAIK. Yes it requires a full tear down to do it, fairly basic to do, my phone is in pieces atm because the lcd needs replacing.
If the flex cable is the problem then none of those parts need replacing, it would be very unlikely in my opinion for all those parts to fail from a drop without it being flex cable related, possible though.
Link to the teardown, some steps in the middle are unneccesary for what you need. http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-z-tear-down

Hey, do you know where I can get a replacement pcb if I decide to take that route man? Seems hard to find that as a single part for sale...
I assume people replace their whole phone if they have a problem like mine :/
You wasted your freaking money on that phone!

You might as well add a line to your friends for the contract price.

it's not THAT bad...considering a brand new one unlocked DZ goes for 450+ and i knew I could fix parts of the phone so for -200 cheaper...i don't know bro!
I just need to know if a replacement pcb is possible to get, or maybe just the flex cable is damaged in which I wouldn't need to replace something so crucial.
Who knows what to do?
EDIT: 450 where I live...Ontario, CA.
...i dunno...could even be water damage that did the deed to that phone....in which case you could be replacing a pcb...or not....I've seen water-loged phones come back to life before....sad thing is it might cost you a few to fix it properly...
Totally agree 250 was to steep...that guy probably paid 79 on contract for it....

Wow about the whole coming back to life thing you just said...thats exactly what my digitizer just did, so the left side of my lcd is now working including the home button!
Im guessing the touch panel ribbon was loose but it somehow shifted to functionality.
Great...now for the in ear speaker and power button, and 250 wont seem too bad!
Edit: anyone know how I can look for past signs for water damage like a colored change in a sticker or something?

There are 2 water damaged indicator stickers, 1 under battery and, 1 under the back housing, you can see it through the opening where the top tab of the battery door latches.
Edit: Forgot.... 1 on the battery too.
What color would the stickers be? They are both white, does that mean anything?
If they are pink they got wet.

^^ What they said.... Pink or Red
250 is quite a bit for a device with issues, but good news is it isn't water damage by the sounds of it.
I'm an aviation electronic tech, and your symptoms definetly sound like a loose interface ribbon. If I were u id haul it apart and reseat the flex cable you guys are talking about. I would put a 85% chance that's the issue.
good luck, and welcome fellow canuck to xda and dz family

Sounds good guys.
However...even if it is probably the flex cable that is causing the remainder of my problems:
1. the in call speaker being super quiet
2. power button not working
Is there any other chance that the speaker and power button areas have loose connections? what should i look for when i open the phone aside from ribbon/flex cable connections?
I need to get the power button fixed because then i can move onto rom modifications and stuff to finally get locations!
I bent one of the pins for the battery connection inside my phone. I use my phone a lot and keep 2 spares at all times. I tried bending it back into place, which sort of works, but my phone constantly loses power because it doesnt align perfectly.
Is there a module I can swap out, and if so, a link to it. I can do a bit of soldering if absolutely required, but I'm hoping this is a plug and play part.
I see no one has replied lol, ill have to look into it but from experience I would have to say its part of the main board and is not plug n play. If you could even find the replacement part for it I am sure the soldiering portion of it would be the most difficult.

Hi all. In need of a bit of advice here. Hope this is in the right forum.
My beloved DHD has suffered from one too many falls. Despite being protected in an Otterbox Commuter case, he now lies on his deathbed. Even though I was considering an upgrade, I'm thinking I might want to stretch out his life for as long as possible instead. So I've come here to ask for repair advice.
- The phone seems structurally sound from the outside, no damage besides minor aesthetic scratches from before the phone was protected by the Otterbox.
- It appears to boot. Makes the vibration noise etc. Heck the alarm even went off the other morning, at the set time of 0630.
- Screen does not function at all. Lifeless. But not broken in any way externally. Because of this, had to pull the battery to shut the alarm off.
- When plugged in to charge, charging light indicator does not illuminate.
Any ideas?
Sent from my nipple running windows 95 NT.
Cheers, although I'm gonna try a different approach for now.
Any ideas? Can anyone point me in the right direction of some advice?
Sounds like 2 things. Broken lcd and a broken charging port. It wouldn't be worth repairing. You could buy one second hand on ebay for aboot £120.
Sent from my nipple running windows 95 NT.
Thanks for that. Considering trying to sell it broken, for parts. Only thing that concerns me is any sensitive data that may be readily accessed by someone who knows how to get to it.
Is there a way to wipe it?
You could use another dhd with the same firmware and copy the key/button presses and reset it in bootloader mode.

Could also be that the connector for the screen has been dislodged due to being drop to many times you mite try opening it up and see if it is that.

Hi, thanks for the response. So I assume you're referring to this part here?

I have a problem similar to yours. But in my case, I'd turned the phone off to go to the cinema and the LCD and touch never turned on again.
In order to erase your data, did you try overwriting a stock rom? (In case it's just the charging LED that is broken)
That sucks! Self detonating phone. Does yours still vibrate and 'turn on'?
Haven't actually managed to clear the data. I'm ordering this part here (http://www.parts4repair.com/htc-desire-hd-lcd-screen-fpc-connector/) and I'm going to attempt to pull it apart and fix it.
If I can get it to work again I'll sell the One V I'm using and go back to the old faithful!
Well this saves me from starting a new thread haha
Anyway i am having the exact same problem as you have.
My dad brought home a Desire HD from work wich was not working so i am trying to fix it.
The phone boots, it vibrates ones and after a minute it makes the boot sound.
But nothing responses and the lights wont turn on.
Also no charging light..
Also it does not charge but usb does connect.
Could this be the FPC connector or the screen?
Hmmm...interesting, exact same issue as mine.
Well, I've ordered the FPC connector replacement part I linked above...going to attempt to play around with it when it arrives and see if I can breathe new life into the phone. So I can tell you how that goes...
Although:
1. Would the charging light and screen problem be connected? Is this feasible? Or does it suggest something else is likely shot?
2. I believe the FPC connector requires a solder to replace. This could be a bit ambitious on my part to attempt to repair...any ideas on what sort of a solder would be suitable?

no clean flux core solder would work best, preferably something very thin (about .015"). A small bottle of noclean flux would also help and you probably will need lead free solder as that is likely what they used on the board to begin with, and lead and leadfree dont typically mix as well.

What sort of iron would be suited? Would any of these suit?

Would you say it'd be a difficult process? I've soldered before, but a that was a while ago in high school...
Also the cost of all this equipment will far outweigh the cost of the $3 FPC connector spare!

yes, those should both work fine. ya it is costly for equipment. i have a edsyn iron i use at home and solder i get from work. i would say it can be tricky, i havent seen the connector but im sure its similar to other inline ribbon connectors. remember, short burst soldering, heating it for too long will take the pad off the pcb, and repairing THAT can become very difficult.

Hi
Sorry for my english, I'm hungarian, this is the best I can do.
So I bought a cheap (but not too cheap) SM-P905, but I can't get the screen to work properly.
The touch layer, the spen, the backlight works well, I managed to mirror the screen on my pc and everything else seems to be okay.
I got off the back cover, I tried to unplug and reattach every flex cable, even the battery. I tried to look everything under magnifying glass to see what could be the problem.
The lcd flex connector looks like this under my lens.
(Upload it in the next post, not working from the android app)
I tried to clean it with a needle, but it still looks like it is corroded or melted.
Is it possible that replacing this connector will get the screen back to normal? (I found flex connector replacement on the internet)
Or is it possible to repair it with some jumpers or something like this?
Is it melted because of some shorted circuit somewhere else, or because of a bad micro capacitor?
How and where can I locate and resolve this problem (s)? Maybe is it still the lcd that is simply dead and I can't bring it back to life?
I dont want to buy a screen, and a motherboard (neither only one of them )
Thank you for your help!
Okay the forum doesnt let me to insert links or photos, because I'm new here -.-

In my opinion it died!!
I hoped for better opinions
I wanted to know how this thing can die?
It has to be caused by something.
Bad resistor/capacitor? Is it on the motherboard or on the lcd's circuitboard?? Or is it only the corroded flex connector??
I dont want to throw the whole tablet in the trash. Everything else is just operating fine.
If nobody can answer this, where should I write, where people can help with these very small components / resoldering / measuring what gone wrong here?

So today I measured the pins in worst condition. There are 2 pins that I tought can cause the problem and looks corroded. (Number 5 and 9 from the right) Both of them !are not used!. (There is a total of 3 pins that are not used on the connector/cable)
They are not lead through the flex cable, they have no function here.
So the problem comes from somewhere else, but I still don't know why they look like this.
Maybe I will try to seperate the screen from the body and look at it closer and its connectors/smaller circuit boards.

Hmm, that pic does not make me think its a corrosion problem. At best, it can lead to a finicky connection, but there seems to be enough there for proper electrical contact. If this were a headphone jack, for example, I would say apply pressure near the cable to see if the headset works properly, and if it does, then I know its a cable problem. No idea if you can try to apply pressure to the cable and see if the LCD turns on.
If the screen mirrors on the TV successfully, then there are a bunch of Samsung Service Codes you can use to test the LCD. Unfortunately I do not know them for this model, but google should get you the service menu very easily. There is definitely a test in there for the LCD that should give you a better idea what to expect.
If the cable is pretty cheap, I would also just pick up one and try replacing. Nothing to lose! AND if you have access to another identical device, you can try to stick this LCD on that device to see if its the LCD thats the problem or the motherboard.
Lastly, I would want to know if the glass on that LCD has ever been replaced. If they did a glass only replacement, its possible they overheated the LCD ... OR used too much LOCA glue that shorted the connectors.
Many possibilities, so I wouldn't call it a day yet. First, look for the service menu, thats the best place to begin.
I will try the service codes.
Unfortunately I don't have more devices. The easiest way would be to test the identical parts on a working one, but I don't know anyone who would risk his/her tablet for this
The other thing I can do is to get another lcd-glass unit from ebay or from ifixit and try it. If the problem was the lcd, it should work, I'm happy, but if its black, I will have (maybe) 2 working lcd units for sale. Or I have to get a new motherboard (sounds expansive).
I don't think that they replaced the glass on this device, it looks very used and scratchy, so it was working before.
Thank you for taking your time for me and answering my dumb questions!!

There are more good news than bad, so I'm very happy.
So 1-2 days ago I started to get off the screen to see if I can seperate the LCD from the receiver. Turned out its not that hard. The only hard thing is to get it off the body in one piece. Lots of heating with a hair drier, and a LOT OF PATIENCE. If you can get it off in one piece you are on your way.
Seperating the glass from the LCD is very easy, did it in 10 minutes, I don't think it needs heating...
So I did it, then I saw some water damage (white things) on the back side of the LCD. There is a small board here too, so I cleaned the white thing off with some alcohol.
Then I put the lcd back and voilá, Its WORKING!!!
The only problem is that I damaged the touch screen glass, so I need to order a new one, but its under 20$ so no problem.
Thank you all for your help, I hope that I finished here

Good to know! Thank you for the update
Other solution is remove battery five minute and reconnect battery
Hi all,
Reaching out for some suggestions to clean my dirty USB port...
I'm on holiday and took the phone to the sea (I know, perhaps not the best idea...) but all is well with the phone other than a lot of dirt has accumulated in the USB port and despite the phone charging, my headphones and data cable aren't being recognised. I'm confident it's just a case of cleaning it, but any suggestions on how best to safely/effectively do so?
I don't have many tools to hand and have only really tried a tooth pick, which didn't help. Perhaps I could place the port in a glass in clean water momentarily to moisten/soften up the dirt and then try again with the tooth pick. Also when back home in a couple days I may wrap the tooth pick in a small wet microfiber cloth and try gently rub it that way too...

My ol friend played in the sand with his phone!??
Bet you won't do that again. Hopefully the saltwater in the sand didn't corrode the contacts in the port too bad. Personally, I'd try some compressed air to blow the crud out. However, I don't know if you can find that readily available on holiday ?

I know.... Slightly too ambitious and took the "water resistant" concept a bit too far and forgot it really only applies to fresh clean water.... No salt! Will perhaps try (though research thoroughly beforehand) an acetone free nail varnish remover or running alcohol, that may help remove stuff as I suspect the compressed air may not be enough...

At least you've got some great pics though:good::good::laugh:
Yeah, might try some isopropyl alcohol on a Qtip to see if it helps. You might even need to use some very fine grit sandpaper to roughen up the contacts on the port :good:

Ahhhh I just fixed it!
I ran under fresh water for a few moments, used a tooth pick and a sensitive baby wipe wrapped around it, inserted carefully and rubbed side to side each of the port, dried with a hair dryer and my headphones work again.... Phew!
Poolside tunes here we come!!

Just wanted to add that the port was still playing funny with me a little and discovered that this little dental flossing tool worked an absolute treat in cleaning it! It's small enough to get right in there and the little brush is gentle and cleaned it up perfectly (under fresh clean water too). My headphones no longer cut out after small movements and so thoroughly removed the dirt/salt that accumulated there (a few weeks ago now!) after it went for a swim in the sea

I'm having the exact same problem for the last two months or so - the phone is charging, but the cable doesn't work for data transfer/debugging, and the headphones dongle doesn't work either (both cable and the dongle work fine with different devices, so it must be the phone's fault). I came across this thread where people are complaining about the headphones dongle not working and some are saying that data cable also doesn't work for them. A few people managed to get it working by cleaning the port just like you did.
So I bought WD-40 Electronic Contact Cleaner. Used about half of the can, and the port now seems to be as clean as new, but it still doesn't help. I also cleaned all the cables with the cleaner. I'll try out the dental flossing tool and report back, but I'm getting a bit pessimistic about it. I can't see any dirt or corrosion, I don't think there's something more to clean.
By the way, you wrote here you fixed it by cleaning the port at the end of June, and then two weeks later you came back saying that the issue returned (but you apparently fixed it again by cleaning it again). Is it alright now, a month after it? Do you now clean it on a regular basis? I'm honestly starting to regret buying a phone with USB-C. It seems like it's still very immature tech. Last time I had problems with connectors, it was with my old Sony Ericsson K750 that couldn't even charge (after a year of usage). With the micro USB port I've never had a single issue. I was being extremely careful with the 2 XL, considering the thing's price, so I don't understand why these problems occur.

Hey. It was more that I kinda fixed it the first time and then thoroughly fixed it the second time, with the flossing tool. And indeed the issue was caused by the salt water and so once all that had been removed by my second clean, the problem went away and has not returned. No further cleaning and has been great since.
I guess for you it depends on what the issue is, has it been exposed to any dirt etc? I too had a (separate) issue with supplied headphone adapter not working but when Google sent replacements they worked fine.

That's the thing, I'm not aware of the phone being exposed to dirt, salt water, sand, or anything else that could "contaminate" it. The headphone adapter wasn't working briefly (for like a week) cca 4 months ago, but then it started working again. But now, cca 2 months ago, both the adapter and the data cable stopped working. They're both fine, I checked them with a different phone.
Anyway, I did as you recommended and I just got the flossing tool. I used a little bit of the electric contact cleaner to make the port and the potential "dirt" wet, and thoroughly cleaned it with the flossing tool. And voila, it works! At least the headphone adapter. I'm still having troubles with the data cable, but it's better than it was before - now my PC can see the phone, but it disconnects randomly. Anyway, I'm certain that with a little bit more cleaning of both the phone and all the cables, I'll get it working.
So I just wanted to say - thank you, a million times! I would have never thought of using the flossing tool. It was a brilliant idea. Hopefully someone else with the same problems stumbles across this thread and it helps them as well. Have a wonderful day!

Ahh that's great news! The fact that it's working better than it was sounds like it was dirty in some way, so yeah give it a good clean some more and I hope it'll be 100% fixed!
I ran mine under the tap too with just warm water, phones switched off and then throughly dried it (gently with warm not hot hairdryer) before turning back on and before trying the adapter.
But yeah for me, all is well now and I'm happy my experience/solution has helped you out
Oh and just a thought, maybe clean you data charger cable if possible as maybe some dirt had transferred from the charging port to the inside plug of the cable.... Just maybe anyway!
