I've read I need to restore from a titanium backup and it'll will stick as default keyboard.
I haven't backed up before so I'm wondering if these steps is the right one?
1. install swiftkey.
2. backup using titanium
3. uninstall swiftkey.
4. restore from titanium backup?
Is this correct? How do I link my backup back to my Playstore acct so I get the updates?

Steps are correct. Tb keeps track of market ids. So upgrades should work. They do on mine.

How safe is it to restore all my app from titanium? I've become a ROM maniac and installing 20-30 apps all the time gets old pretty quickly.

Pretty darn safe for me. I do it that way myself.
Just user apps though. Dont try system apps. It should be obvious why
I've restored and backup a plethora times using TB never run into any issues. One of the best rooted applications I can't live without!

I'm looking for the best possible solution to backup my apps and apps settings (Handcent Gmail, etc) so when I flash a new rom I'm able to open up the app thats already configured relativity head ache free.
Is this something apps 2 sd would do?
MYBACKUPPRO, TITANIUM BACKUP, ASTRO FILE MANAGER, etc etc - Just search the market for "backup" and google the diff apps to see the features of each.

dunno about mybackup pro but titanium backup donate has gotten me out of some stupid situations before. It does the apps / data / system data all seperate and lets you restore each or all at once...going to and from CM6 and keeping two roms updated to play around with has never been easier.
Titanium backup. Back up app+data.
If you are going to a new rom and not the same rom it is best to install the apps fresh and not install the apps using Titanium back up. The apps that are saved are saved with the first roms settings and sometimes just the littelest diffrence could cause all sorts of issues leading to FC's or something else.

Didn't know Ti had this issue but MyBackup Pro doesn't. I've flashed different roms to test (always gone back to Fresh because it's just my preferred) and MBPro has always restored apps+data with no issues. The newest version finally doesn't list SU, which always gave me errors back then until I figured not to restore it. Anyways, Ti and MBPro are both great options.

What are you guys using to back up your phone when you flash a new rom?
Is there an easy way to reload all the old apps when you flash a new rom? or do you have to reload everything manually.
I just put the starburst rom on my phone and really liking it. I assume I will want a flash a later version at some point and am wondering if there is an easier way to the apps back and such after flashing.

TitaniumBackup. When backing up, I would just backup the apps, and not the system data. I have StarBurst too, and it works great.
FYI if you have the free version, when you restore apps you have to manually hit install, done, install, done. If you buy Pro, then I believe you won't need to.

Exactly what Apoc said. But just buy it. Its WAY worth it
Be careful using Titanium backup to restore apps. It can cause big time problems when restoring backed up apps from different ROM bases.
AppBrain is a good app that will keep track of all the apps you have installed and you can use it as a reference to reinstall them from the Market. This is what I do, then I use Titanium Backup to restore the data to those apps.
So i've been reading for over an hour and didn't find an answer to this so I guess it warrants a new thread.
I'm currently on Calkulin's 3.0 (EL29) Gingerbread Rom with Rouge 1.1.2 recovery.
So I planned on using Odin to flash stock EL29 tar. then manually update ICS (unless I get the OTA pushed automatically). Then plan on rooting ICS and adding CWM.
Two Questions:
1. Is that the best way to go about getting ICS?
2. After I update, root and reinstall Titanium Backup Pro can I batch restore everything I had or am I asking for trouble by doing that?
I don't have tons of apps but I did do Calkulin's "Bare Rom Converter" after installing his ROM. (not sure if that makes a difference).
I don't know about using batch titanium... To be safe I would use app backup and restore in play store to keep the apps you want and use titanium after you are running the rooted setup you choose, to then restore data to the apps. Never tried running batch this would be a safe method.

Just batch restore. Prefer to do App Only and then only restore data to things like games with progress or apps that would be a pain in the ass to configire.
The main area you would actually have trouble in anyways is restoring old data to a new version of an app. I always update before I backup and the only things I do not restore from a backup is titanium backup and any apps already installed. So you might try to restore data to say swype and there be a version difference.
Restoring game data should not be an issue, restoring system app data might give you massive grief through.

Is there any app that can restore all apps+data where I don't need to re-download and re-organize my apps all over again? I came from iOS and iTunes pretty much restores my phone and all the apps exactly the way I had it if I were to switch to a new iOS device. I was hoping android could do the same. For example I have apps in folders but when I keep flashing roms and I try to restore my backups I never get all my apps restored and I even have to download lots of apps all over again. I have the paid Titanium Backup Pro, MyBackUp Pro, Rom ToolBox Pro and I've used TWRP.
All of those apps will do that. I have both titanium and rom toolbox. I prefer titanium. It's fast and let's me backup and restore sms/mms too

I use Titanium Pro to batch backup then restore APPS and APP Data. Works great with about 100 or so apps I have on my device.
Then only SYSTEM data I restore is call logs/messages.
Sorry I wasn't clear. I am saying that those apps that I have paid for I have also used and not a single one will do a mirror restore after I flash a rom. Even if I go back to stock rom and restore I still have to download old apps and almost always have to remake every page and folder. What I am asking is if there is an app or program like iTunes that can do a mirror restore where all the hard work doesn't have to be repeated every time I flash a new rom?

Some launchers (I use Nova) have a backup/restore for your layout so you don't have to keep redoing it. Is that what you mean? Placement of your widgets, folders, and apps and such?
I use titanium backup and it restores everything for me. After flashing, download titanium and run batch restore. Mine even sets up nova how I had it. Titanium works, I use it almost every day. I flash alot and only clean flash. I can have my phone all set up in like ten minutes.

I've had Titanium backup on my phone for a while now. The number of options/functions is a bit mind boggling on this app. So far I just used it for a basic complete backup and to freeze/unfreeze/uninstall/restore apps.
I don't have any backups scheduled yet. I also anticipate we'll probably get a JB 4.2 update this summer some time. Is there a guide anywhere on "best practices' for TB? I've spent dozens and dozens of hours tweaking this phone just right with all sorts of apps. My goal is after an update to have the least work/headache possible. I know many of the programs I'm using like Llama, WidgetLocker, Nova Launcher have their own settings backup I'll need to use to save to the SD card.
My phone is rooted but I plan to always stay on the stock ROM. I assume I will need to re-root then install TB and do a restore. Is this a simple one click operation, or even with TB am I probably going to run into problems and have to do a lot of re-config work? I don't even know if on an OS update TB can cause more problems than it solves so it's best to just start from scratch.

With Titanium Backup you can make a flashable .zip to restore your apps and data. I use this all the time and its quicker than restoring thru TiBu its self. I only zip apps since data can sometimes bork things up but its a handy feature

Not a nandroid.
Nandroid is your complete system backed up by a recovery
The flashable zip will just install your apps.
Look at it like GApps for CM10 or any other ROM.
Except its not Google Apps its your personal apps zip file.
And you will need a custom recovery.
