OTG Adapter (USB, Card Connection Kit) - Galaxy Note 10.1 Accessories

Has anyone tried or have this stuff? If this works I will just buy one, seems to be handy at times. http://www.ebay.ph/itm/Black-5-1in1...t_Adapters&hash=item4169be5074#ht_2949wt_1018
It is $2.99 by the way.

I've had it for almost a year now. Used it with Tab 10.1 and use it with Note 10.1

The GrayBean one is too expensive at ~$40.

It amazes me how long stuff has taken to get to me. Especially coming from Korea.

Ordered 2 black Sanoxy USB OTG Cable adapters on Sept 26, and have yet to arrive.
but something tells me that it will be just like the BestDeals one. I hope not though.
Ordered 2 OEM USB OTG Connection Kits on Aug 30, and I have yet to receive them.
Anyway, I thought i had ordered this already, but I didn't so I just ordered this hub earlier today and expect it Tuesday. From the reviews it seems to work well.

Is it possible to connect an external hard drive to the note with one of these adapters?

Re 'the third one'. It works fine, but the connector is very loose. If you give it a tap it will disconnect. But it works just fine.

I use this usb connector with my usb sticks and it works fine.

No hard drive
I have these adapters and can't run a hard drive. You get an OS message about the device using too much power.

I used a dual USB cable and connected one end to the Not eand one to an external battery and it worked just fine with the Note.
Yes, you can connect an HDD, but it requires external power and that had been mentioned a dozen times at least.

Its probably not this, as you say the light comes on, but i had the other adapter thats on this thread, which i thought was a dud, at first until i realised that i had'nt pushed the connector all the way in, it takes a deceptive amount of pressure, so might be worth ruling that one out.

Well I just inserted a microsd card in the sd card adapter and stuck it into the Graybean hub and it automatically recognize the card, opened up the file manager. I selected the Weird Al yankovic video I had on the card and it played without fail and without studder.
I then attached the Logitech Wireless Touchpad dongle to the Graybean and it immediately recognize the touchpad mouse.
I then inserted another sdcard reader and another microsd card and both show up in the file manager.

Xoom - USB wireless keyboard and mouse

So, with the update, anyone think we can hook up a wireless receiver (I'm thinking the logitech unifying receiver) and use both the keyboard and mouse with it? That's how I do it with the laptop, just wondering if anyone can read (and understand) the release notes to see if this is possible...
Well the support is for USB keyboards and mice, so I doubt the PC setup you have will work since the xoom probably wont have the drivers for that specific receiver. Not to mention that sounds really cumbersome.

Sorry, did I have this wrong? As I understood, this update enables USB host. Doesn't that mean that (assuming drivers were available) that USB keyboards and mice would work?
Not really that cumbersome, BTW- plenty of folk on here are already talking about connecting USB thumb drives. This setup would be the same, at least in terms of what's connected to the xoom. If you really need to know what I'm planning, here's what I have to set it up:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Note...AB9G/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1305066484&sr=8-8
That looks pretty nice you're right. I just Dont think the drivers will be supported.

Gah. Well, I'll just have to give it a go when I get the update. Side question: any suggestion on where to get a microUSB to USB Host connector? I can't figure out which are host and which are not...
this is the only officially supported one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054636
There are other microusb to usb converters, but they lack the pin setup required, contrary to popular belief. This is straight from the motorola engineer who designed it.

suit yourself. The amazon one you buy will not work. I could hunt down the Moto forums post explaining why it wont, but It sounds like you wouldnt believe me anyways, so I wont waste my time trying to help you not waste your money. I do hope your setup works to be honest, it seems kinda cool, but this stuff is just too proprietary. Good luck.
One last aside, if paying 20 dollars is really that huge of a deal to you, you can make your own USB host cable. Which is why those 3 dollar amazon ones wont work, they lack usb host.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13673416
I realize I made a typo in my earlier statement when I typed it added support for "Bluetooth keyboards", I meant to say "USB keyboards". Weve had bluetooth support since launch, that must have sounded ridiculous to you. I had basically meant to say that since you are planning on using a wireless receiver, the drivers would not be there. Now if you use the right usb host cable with a usb-cabled keyboard, then yes, it will definitely work. And with that I will stop jacking your thread.
If that's the case, then why are there several threads where people have updated to 3.1 with $3 cables from eBay?
and I knew what you were saying earlier even with the mistake
sent from my face
For the sake of overall Xoom awesomeness, I hope you turn out to be right. More options never hurt. Ive read threads were people got a usb host cable from ebay/amazon, and some types worked while others wouldn't. Its really trial and error I suppose.
Actually in all honesty USB Host does not mean every keyboard or mouse will work.... unix based drivers would first have to be directly recognized within the Android OS... most will work but not all... thats where testing comes into play

If anyone wants to pick one up without having to wait for it to ship from Hong Kong, I found a listing on eBay within the US for a nicer cable for $8.95. It's black to match the Xoom and has an angled micro USB connector to avoid it sticking out. It shipped the same day and was delivered two days after I ordered!
I can confirm it's working with multiple wireless mouse/keyboard sets as well as standard USB mice/keyboards and flash drives... I started geeking out when the cable got delivered and promptly started plugging every USB device I could find into my Xoom, just because I can!

Greetings all. Just picked up a 10.1 from a local BB. super excited to open it up in a couple of hours.
As far as accessories, can someone verify that the travel charger and the usb cable that came with the 7" galaxy tablet will work with this 10.1" as well?
Any recommended place to get these two from?
cellphoneshop seems to be the place to get some cheap $3-$5 chargers and usb cables.
any other sites?
I refuse to pay the obscene $20 and $35 that samsung is charging for the cables and chargers....
thanks

Sigh, If thats the case then by tab is going straight back to best buy in a week
The 7 inch tab stuff works fine on the 10.1. The usb adapter is backorder at samsung and does not appear anywhere else.
I went to my local Best Buy this weekend and saw a space for USB connection kit on the shelf. The sales guy couldn't find it in the internal system or on their website though. The SKU was 2837365 and he said it was an accessory previously discontinued for the 7" tab that is coming back for both. Not sure if anybody else saw this. I think I saw someone else posted they saw the same thing at another website forum too.

It does NOT have USB ports but does have a pass-through of the 30-min Samsung Connector they "claim" allows you to use the USB -or- HDMI adapters. I have neither to test this but I have the keyboard dock and there is only the 30-min and a headphone jack.

USB Adapter Review

I went to Best Buy and happened to pick up the very last USB adapter. I got it with a ShopKick $5 discount so it came out to about $16 with tax. My first impression was that the box was much smaller than I expected. It was about the size of my Droid.

I preceded to open it up and noticed how much smaller it was than I expected.
The first thing I plugged in was my usb wireless mouse.
My Tab recognized it right away and gave me a nice message saying it worked and now I had a cursor on the screen. Everything worked on the mouse except for the right mouse button, but I kind of expected that.
The next thing I tried was my Droid. It gave me an error saying that it was too high powered to work, which is a bummer, but I can still transfer between the two with bluetooth even if it takes a little while to set up.
Finally I tried a usb drive with a track by Deadmau5 because I knew that that song was not in my library or my Google Music library. Sure enough it showed up in my Music app, but I couldn't find it in Astro File Manager. There was a folder for "usbdrive", but when I opened it, it was empty.
Overall Opinion
I was expecting the adapter to be about twice the size, but was quite happy to find that it was smaller. It seems to work with many devices, but it is maddening when you get the "too high powered device" error. It was also a very tight fit to fit a USB device into the end and you had to use quite a bit of force to plug stuff in. I feel like the overall plug itself fits very loose though in the Tab and that bothers me. It's just too bad Samsung couldn't have fit it inside the tab
7/10
Pros:
Small
Allows many usb devices
Adds more functionality
Cons:
It fits into the Tab loosely
Expensive at $19.99 for what it is
Doesn't work with high powered devices
Thanks for the review... was planning on buying it, but maybe I'll hold off for a bit.

I would recommend it, it's just kind of expensive for what it is.
We need a version of this that allows a USB power. I know it's another thing to plug in but it would save from needing to carry/plug in a powered USB hub just to use an external HD.
I got mine for 10 dollars after a 10 dollar RZ coupon from Best Buy. Everything I've plugged into it works so far (Mouse, Keyboard, Logitech USB Controller, different thumb drives). I have no complaints.
Of interest is that the Engrish directions state that you need to plug whatever USB device into the adapter first, and then plug the adapter into the Tab, or else risk damaging the Tab. Not too sure why.

USB "filter", make USB ports look like high power chargers... it works

Recently bought this adapter from amazon, a mfg named +pwr. It makes your lower power (computer and non samsung ac adapter) usb ports look like full power ports. Using it removes the red X from the charging icon and also allows the device to draw the max power available on the port - it's not going to magically make a 1 amp usb port draw 2 amps - but it will allow the device to draw max instead of a lower rate due to low power charging mode.
I've tested this on my PC, in my car and on an older Samsung ac adapter.
Well worth the 5 bucks I'd say. I'm planning to get one for each of my charge points and leave them installed.

Just be careful. There are adapters out there that were of an older design, primarily for the issue with iOS devices. Those won't work (you'll still see the red x). The one from Amazon works (I've tested it) but I can't comment on others. I'd suggest making sure that it at least explicitly states newer Samsung devices to be safe.
I don't suppose anyone knows of anyone in the UK doing these ? They are quoting 6-8 weeks for delivery to UK.
I've done a quick search, but am wary of knock-offs as OP rightly warned about. Would like to get something like this that people have tried and tested, but would prefer not to have to wait 2 months to get it !
Its by the same company. Think itll be the same?

Just be careful. There are adapters out there that were of an older design, primarily for the issue with iOS devices. Those won't work (you'll still see the red x). The one from Amazon works (I've tested it) but I can't comment on others. I'd suggest making sure that it at least explicitly states newer Samsung devices to be safe.

The company PWR+ is selling these direct on eBay for 5.90 with free shipping. On amazon you have to pay 4.99 for shipping.

Not quite the same as this fits on the other end, but if you have a micro USB cable it works perfectly. Tried and tested on a standard USB charger, PC and laptop. Arrived in two days.

There's some resistors between the VBus+/GND and the shorted D+/D- lines that Samsung uses to make their chargers proprietary. See here.
Using this adapter - would it be possible to connect a portable HDD to the Note 10.1, without the use of a powered USB hub?

No, in fact this adapter eliminates all USB data connections.

USB otg support??

Please confirm if USB otg is supported..

Yes, it does. You have to go to the Storage Menu and Enable OTG though.
OTG should work in principle, however propably only with a cable from Oneplus. It does not work with a OTG cable from Anker (just tested it).
Hmm, so this is strange. I have a Sandisk OTG enabled USB drive that I just connected to the OP2 using the OnePlus Micro-USB to Type C adapter. Worked perfectly to backup all my stuff from the old phone. I unplugged here and connected it as is to the OnePlus 3 and it doesn't work. Reconnecting to the OP2 works fine, all of the data shows up on PC also, but just won't show up on the OP3. Very strange, still trying to figure this out.

That is exactly what my doubt is.. I too have read that plugging in the dual otg drive via adapter doesn't works... If someone can put some light on this, we will be grateful
i purchased this Dash Micro G3 Type-C: Mini MicroSD Card Reader and it works great so far, i am mainly using it as a back up, it comes with a cool little keychain so i have when i need it, pretty compact too, does seem kinda slow, its only transfering at 15MB/s i know the sd card is way faster than that, but it works.

Well, for me the following Anker product works like charm:

I tried it again and you're right... My cable has a extreme tight fit at the connector so I was a bit afraid to push it in with full force. Now I did and it moved in a tiny bit more.
Now it is working fine. So thanks @MagDag for your reply and I can now confirm that the Anker cable works fine too.
Hah indeed - it's really tight fit... I also was very careful in the beginning because I don't wanted to destroy my phone.

Same here. Using OnePlus USB C to micro USB adapter and Sandisk OTG USB drive. It does not seem to detect the OTG drive

Sadly this is not available at Amazon India
i doubt, that the phone actually recognizes the cable itself... however it will depend on how much juice the target device needs vs what the phone provides...

The OnePlus 2 type-C to micro-USB adapter is a non-standard thing. It was required for the OP2 because the OP2 type C USB is broken.
Try a generic adapter. That's the real test. Generic adapters didn't work on the OP2.
Hmm, so on the OnePlus forums, this seems to be the consensus ... The OnePlus Adapter was for the non-standard Type C on the OP2 and will only allow charging on the OP3, but not OTG. So far, third party standards compatible adapters seem to be working fine. I just ordered the Xiaomi Type C adapter and should get it in a week. Will post here again if it works.

I bought this one from Skiva https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0140YRZDQ/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And use it with a cruze usb 3, the only drawback is that is taking forever to see some mp4 videos recorded from a gopro that are saved in the USB
I bought this and it works perfectly: http://www.ebay.com/itm/351729709215?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I can confirm the Xiaomi Type C Micro USB adapter does NOT work for OTG. Yes, I had OTG enabled, no go!
I'm not seeing an option to enable usb otg in settings/storage. I'm on Oxygen 3.1.3. Am I just missing it? Do I need to unlock developer options first?

Nvm. Found it in the 3 dot menu. Ravpower usb otg works.

Is there any cable which would allow you to charge and read an external flash drive? Never tried OTG before, so I don't know if this is even possible.
