o2 mms settings?

Hi All,
I'm having trouble with the mms settings on my Desire...(3g works fine) I've put in the following settings that I found online somewhere but it doesn't work (won't send mms). I'm on o2 simplicity 20 tariff.
Name: o2 MMS Postpay
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Proxy: (not set)
Port: (not set)
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMS proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS port: 8080
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 234
MNC:10
Authentician type: Not set
APN Type: not set
Does anyone on o2 have different settings that work? Or let me know what I'm doing wrong?...thanks!
Try these settings, they should hopefully work: http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=144262#144262
I am on the same tariff and my MMS works perfectly ..... apart from the resizing issue.
My details are the same as yours apart from :
Server : Not Set
and
APN Type : mms
I also have another APN called O2 MOBILE WEB with these settings :
APN : mobile.o2.co.uk
Proxy : Not Set
Port : Not Set
Username : O2web
Password : password
Server : Not Set
MMSC : Not Set
MMS proxy : Not Set
MMS port : Not Set
MMS Protocol : WAP 2.0
MCC : 234
MNC : 10
Authentication Type : Not Set
APN type : default
HTH
Thanks Mastoid!
Yep the that's the link I got my original settings from...
I'll try out the small changes hot-fuzz recommended too...checked my other APN setting and they were the same.
Don't know where I'm going wrong...I can receive them ok...just trying to send them takes forever and it never gets sent.
Just switching off the phone now...will see if it works and report back...
EDIT: (stupid) question...but do i need to have 3g on for mms to work? Never had to on my other (non-smart) phones but thought these might be different...
Yes, 3G/GPS/EDGE is needed, that's the cellular connection
Do you have 3G in your area?
SMS uses a small data channel on the GSM protocol. This data channel is used to transmit information about the network (like the name, signal, type, etc) and for example connect calls. It was also realised it could be used to send small messages, then SMS was born.
Now, MMS is entirely different. When you get an MMS what actually happens is that you get a special type of SMS that tells your phone that it needs to connect to a server to download a MMS message. Doing so means it opens a data connection through GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HDSPA, or whatever data connection channel is available.
Just to add to this. You dont need to have it ON, you just need to have it available.
I have Mobile Network turned off at home and 3G automatically turns on for the purpose of sending an MMS.
Thanks again for the helpful advice! Seems like I hav to manually turn on 3g for it to send. Will wait and see if the recipient responds...
...still no good, can't send mms settings are exactly as suggested above. Hopefully once o2 release the desire it might help...
found this over on the AV Forums, it's for htc magic but some guy replied that the settings also work with the desire.

This guide is based on a HTC Magic that has been unlocked and rooted and is now running a O2 SIM card.
You will need to set up 2 x APNs on the handset.
First one is for your mobile internet. Remember that if you do not have the unlimited web bolt on then this will start to get very expensive for you! You need to enter this information in. If there is nothing written for a paticular field then just leave it blank.
Mobile Web:
Name: o2
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: web
Password: web
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
MMS:
Name: MMS
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMS Proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 243
MNC: 10
Now once these two seperate APN's have been entered and you have made sure you saved them you should see a grey circle next to each one. Click on the MMS circle and it should now have a green light inside it.
Re-Boot the handset.
You should now have mobile internet and MMS capabilities
Just remember that these are the settings that worked for me on my HTC Magic unlocked and used with a O2 SIMplicity card with a unlimited web bolt on. Make sure you have a data package otherwise your phone bills will be massive! If in doubt check with O2 to make sure your not being charged for the data etc. I cannot be held responsible!
Click to collapse

from this it looks like your MCC is wrong should 243 not 234.

I just found those settings on avforums thanks, tried resetting the MCC to 243 and clicked save...but the whole APN was removed/deleted so had to reset it back up using 234 as standard.
Just wanna make sure - is it 234 or 243 that I should be using?
Just wanted to say thanks for the settings!
Was trying to figure this out & found the info very useful
Bloody lack of o2 support lol

Advice - o2 iPhone Simplicity data/MMS settings?

Can anyone advise me of the correct APN settings to get an o2 iPhone Simplicity sim working in my Desire?
I've got data working fine, just no MMS.
Unfortunately I do only have the settings for Germany - however, as I was facing the same issue like you, I contacted the O2 support via phone. And within a couple of minutes I received a mail from O2 with the correct settings (no general ones, specific for the Desire) including a detailed description. Maybe the UK support is working the same way...
@sonderschalter: can you share with us your operator settings? Maybe we can modify them with our operator settings and make MMS work
Here are my UK settings (although note that my sim wasn't originally Simplicity, I justed downgraded to a Simplicity contract):
Name: O2 MOBILE WEB
APN: mobile.02.co.uk
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: O2web
Password:
Server: Not Set
MMSC: Not Set
MMS Proxy: Not Set
MMS Port: Not Set
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
Authentication Type: Not Set
APN Type: default
Hope that helps!
Thanks everyone. In the end I called o2 and they emailed me this, which has sorted my problem:

i went into the o2 shop to get either a iphone or blackberry simplicity im to use in my desire hoping i could change the apn's etc. was told that blackerry one wouldnt work as it uses completly different servers and the iphone would work but i'd run the risk of being disconnected for breach of t&c's.
have you tried to use wifi in any of the open zones ?
Further to what I said earlier, although the settings o2 gave me worked, they did not allow streaming for some reason.
I found some different settings that allowed data and streaming media, but MMS didn't work.
After hunting around the net and trying all combinations of APN settings that I could find (including have two sets of APNS one for MMS & one for data), I have come to the conclusion that the iPhone Simplicity plan will not allow streaming and MMS at the same time.
I've now cancelled that contract within the 14 day period allowed, and taken out an o2 Simplicity for Smartphone contract instead. Hopefully this will allow me to do what I want easily... will update here with the results.

Please someone solve my mms problem!

Hi all, I am literally tearing my hair out over this! My Desire HD seems to refuse to receive picture messages, it says downloading then fails.
I am on Orange, have spoke to Orange and have input all the settings they told me to, I can send mms, but seems to have a serious problem receiving them.
Annoying thing is when I was on the phone to Orange they sent me an mms and it worked, come off the phone, my sister tries to mms me and download fails!
Please, has anyone else encountered this? Thanks
Hi & welcome to XDA
Before heading for a straight factory reset, have you been able to send any MMS messages? Is it just pictures you struggle to send & receive?
I am also on Orange, these are my MMS APN settings.

Yes it is just mms I have a problem with, everything else is fine!
And as said I can send them, but not receive!
Two things I can think of...
1. Is Mobile network enabled all time (there is an option in the Mobile network setting page for that)
2. Sometimes for some stupid reason if you are connected to WiFi, the 3g connection will be turned off in Android (to save battery). Try turning off WiFi and see if downloading MMS is successful.
+1. Picture messaging only works with a 3g connection, not wifi.
Sent from my Motorola Startac running Atari 2600 software!
