[Q] Stock dialer, contact app? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I'm using the newest FrostyJB ROM and I like it. Stock with enhancements.
However, I don't like the Samsung dialer/contact manager app.
Is there a way I can flash the stock JellyBean one?

I don't think AOSP Dialer and Contact will work without edits done to them.
I remember a dev for the Vibrant community ported the GingerBread AOSP Dialer and Contacts to our TouchWhiz ROMs, so it's probably possible.
Just need the right person to do it.
You can always try Google Play apps, just make sure not to delete your native ones.

well, if you like the Gingerbread contacts and dialer you'll find that the exDialer is pretty close to that
and you could also change the preferences in it so it would fit even more - slide left\right for call\sms
hope it helps

[Q] How do I port Sense dialer to vanilla/MIUI?

I love everything about vanilla and MIUI except the dialers. I use the T9 searching on the sense dialer (which is the only reason i use sense) to dial numbers every day. I have tried Market dialer replacements and they are not great. Could i just extract the sense dialer APK? or is there more to it than that? Instruction is appreciated :-\
bump for this thread. I am also looking for a way to get the sense dialer installed on my cyanogen mod release. This is the only thing useful to me in sense.

Can I assume both of you have tried Dialer One in the market? I suppose visually it may not be quite as nice as the sense dialer, but functionally it is far superior to most anything out there.
The answer is no. you can't use a sense dialer on aosp. There is a whole lot more to the sense dialer than just the apk. Too many other files. I suggest ray dialer. free from market. Also in the realm of MIUI we will have t9 dialer in todays release...

+1 on Dialer One. I miss the built-in speed dial and predictive 'pre dial' capability from stock Sense ROMs. This free app does a superb job of replacing that functionality. It also replaces the dialer in the ROM when it is set as the default.

Can't get that to work (replace the default dialer) how did you do that? EDIT: found it!
I'm using Youlu Address Book and CM6.1 and what I did was dropped a shortcut to Youlu on the desktop, then if you pick it up and drop it in place, you can set a custom icon for it (I chose the phone icon from the Gingerbread icon pack I'm using for ADW Launcher). Then I dropped it down on the favorites bar.

[Q] Moving programs/apps from one ROM to another

I'm a beginner, but I've been trying to read up the various posts/wikis around, so I think I have the basics down. I have root and started playing around with various Sense ROMs (because I was familiar with the default Inc ROM, whatever it's called, stock ROM or something?) but a friend has been raving about how he loves Cyanogen (albeit he has a DRIOD) so I tried it out, and liked it.
I really liked the combo weather/clock widget that is included with the HTC Sense UI though, and I was hoping I could somehow copy the .apk files over to the SD card, and then install them after flashing a non-Sense ROM. I've found a few that look promising, like weather.apk and com.htc.WeatherWidget.apk, but after copying them over, nothing would show up in the app or widget menus, so I think I'm either missing files, or it just won't work.
From the little I know, I'm guessing it's perhaps because there are some system files or calls or something specific to the Sense UI that the widget requires to run?
I saw in Titanium backup that certain apps appear to be tied to certain ROMs, for example TB won't let me install "cyanogen settings" on a non-cyanogen ROM.
Is there just a fundamental difference in the code or somewhere that will stop the weather widget from working? Or can I edit or copy enough files to get this to work? Are there replacements for the weather widget? I saw several posts about something called beautiful widgets, but I also heard that it's either no longer available, doesn't work well, or has other problems.
Less importantly, I also prefer the sense keyboard, calculator, and dialer to the cyanogen ones, can any of those be ported over? Or do they have the same problems?
You cannot use Sense widgets with launchers other than Sense. They are tightly integrated.
There's nothing wrong with BW. It's highly customizable and functional. It's definitely still in the market and definitely still being supported.
Cool, I'll go get that.
Any ideas about the calc/dialer/launcher? I don't think those count as widgets, but maybe they're integrated into Sense also.
They are integrated, with the exception of the HTC keyboard. Search for HTC_IME.
If you want your sense items, you will need to run a sense Rom =/

DialerOne
DialerOne will allow for speed dialing in an AOSP ROM.
If you used that feature w/ the Sense-based ROMs, that app is a nice way to get speed dial back. Note that it will replace whatever stock dialer is on the ROM.
Also, the only other place I know of that gives the cool clock/weather for AOSP ROMs is BeautifulWidgets - a paid app from the market.
FWIW - the HTC Flashlight does work in AOSP ROMs.

Fancy Widget Pro
You can skin Fancy Widget Pro to look like the Sense Flip Clock. This is the closest thing to it.
Thanks, I guess the short answer was basically that I just need to get replacements for everything, or learn to like the AOSP versions. Did get Beautiful Widgets though, looks good.

Install stock Froyo dialer and contacts in Skyraider Athena?

SkyRaider Athena is one of my favorite ROMs. Build in the sense framework with the look and feel of AOSP Android, for the most part at least. I would like to replace the sense dialer and contacts apps with the stock Froyo dialer and contacts apps and the gingerbread keyboard with the Froyo keyboard. I hunted them down, put them on my SD card and tried to install them using Astro, app installer and Root Explorer but to no avail. All I get is a message saying that the installation has failed. I tried using appmonster as well, but I didn't see an option to install from the SD card. Is there any way to replace the sense dialer and contacts with the stock dialer and contacts apps and if so how would I go about doing so?
Dialer/Contacts Alternatives
Don't know much about SR Athena.
I do know DialerOne (my preference) and Go Contacts do a nice job of replacing dialer/contacts features that I liked in the stock dialer, like speed dial, etc.
Each has a different look and feel from stock, but each has it's own strengths too.
May be worth a look.

[Q] SecContacts.apk on aosp rom?

I was just wondering if its possible to install the contacts app from Samsung's touchwiz launcher onto an aosp rom. I'm currently on the latest cm10.1 nightly and everything about it is awesome but i just want to have the feature in the contacts where you slide to the right to call, or slide to the left to text the person. I've looked everywhere but have yet to find anything or anyone that has done it. Thanks in advance!!
No. As of right now, nobody has made any TW apps usable with AOSP.

[Q] Touchwiz System Apps on JellyBam

I just swapped from HighOnAndroid, a TouchWiz based ROM, to JellyBam 7.4. I really like the customization of JellyBam, but there are a number of system apps that I really don't like, the Clock app, Calendar app, Messenger app, Contacts app, and Phone app. I love the look and feel of the TouchWiz versions of all of those apps. The JellyBam Clock has none of the features of TW clock, the TW calendar has a nice appearance, and i work outside at night, so the white text on black used in the TW Contacts and Messenger apps is perfect. Actually the Messenger app uses the colored balloons on a black background, which i really like.
Where can i find these apps, and can someone explain to me an elementary and simple way to install them? I have a copy of the Clock app, but it wont install. I've tried drag and drop, overwrite, etc. The phone won't let me do anything with the default clock app.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Jellybam roms are banned from xda so you will not find any support on this.
Also
TW based applications don't function on AOSP roms without the TW interface.
