Ok, after the update I tried to do the same as before on the google search, but I realized that there is a new file now, besides the GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk, there is a new GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk.
Now, I can install the old APK and it works, but even rooted, I can't make it stick after an update....
Any ideas?
I was wondering about universal search too after I did the recent LI3 update. Here's the thread I downloaded the update from & near the bottom is a link for "Revert to LF9 search."
I downloaded it & flashed w/ CWM & now it's back. Screw Apple!

Well... I tried that zip, but after flashing it successfully, it will NOT change the search after an update....
Did u wipe Dalvik cache after flashing? Not sure, but it might make a difference

Don't worry I have a solution. I am trying to figure out the best way to fix it as they have TWO identical .apks for the search function now and it defaults to the newer name so replacing the existing one doesn't fix anything as it just uses a different apk in the system with _USA added to the end. I deleted the new one they added and replaced the other one and it works for me. I also tried replacing the new one and leaving the non Universal Stock one and it also worked. I am not sure if it is better to delete one and patch the other or what and what potential side effects there could be in the long run. Please be patient and I will post a link to a new thread outlining this.

I installed Freshevo and Netarchy. Everything works great, however I miss the Sprint TV application.
So I tried to install the version from the SD card (fresh-removed-apks-3)
Installation worked, but when I start the app, I get a notification that a newer version would be available. There are two buttons available "exit" and "update", but only the exit button works. Which means I can not update. Unfortunately I can not skip the dialog either, so no Sprint TV for me :-(
Any idea how to fix this, or where to get the latest version?
PS
I don't know why it was removed, I don't really consider it bloatware Please re-add.
+1 on evio rom as well. I nandroided back to 2.1 stock rooted rom and the update went through. Anyone know where the updates are stored so i can pull it from there and post it.

To quote Flipz as to why Sprint updates for Sprint programs don't work:
" Due to fresh rom being signed you will get a signature error while trying to install it. Me resigning the whole rom allows me to do customizations and modifications that other roms can’t do, yet the side effects of people not being able to install all of these updates is getting to be a bit much. I might go back to an un-resigned rom until after things slow down with the evo." From his web site.
There is a flashable sprint tv update zipfile in my ROMs OP. It should work just fine with the EviO ROM.
This could be the reason, however we don't get a signature error. it looks like the update button is not working?

Good point. I haven't (if you tell me how I will).
However there is one reason that makes it reasonable to me there was no signature error. The update notification shows two buttons. The users can choose to update or to exit. It doesn't update immediately. However the update button doesn't ("not active"), so it doesn't look like the update was downloaded at all. Does this make sense?

I'm doing this from work, so I'll have to clean this up later.
Standard Disclaimers Apply. I have personally tested this on my device multiple times.
WHAT DOES THE LG2 OTA UPDATE CONTAIN?
Simply put? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Well mostly nothing, I can't fully confirm that. But I can confirm two things:
1. Removes universal search from Google Quick Search (i.e. search apps, contacts, or anything besides web)
2. Limits your Wifi and 3G horribly (made my SGS3 reject my work wifi for being too weak, with 1-2 bars)
WHAT AM I PROVIDING HERE THEN?
Well, anyone who has received the notification for the OTA knows just how frustrating it is! This should get rid of that, while also updating your modem. Any other 'patching' is removed, as well as the Google Quick Search crippling.
And most importantly, this will flash through CWM no matter what you've changed or removed, so long as you're on LF9.
HOW TO USE:
1. Do not accept OTA update.
2. Download my file to your SD card.
3. Boot into CWM.
4. Flash my file.
5. Reboot phone.
6. Accept OTA update.
7. Reboot phone once OTA fails.
DOWNLOAD HERE
Custom LG2 for Custom ROMS
This is awesome!
Side question: what does this mean for future OTA's? Will subsequent "custom updates" be needed from here on out? Thanks!
Worked perfect! Thanks!
Thanks again for the update! But my paranoid just wants to confirm I get everything flashed correctly...
I accidentally clicked "Update later" when I got prompted (step 6) because I wanted to check the device info. Now I don't get prompted to install the OTA anymore even though I didn't go through the process of downloading it. Should I be seeing the old baseband (LF9) or should that also be LG2?
Thanks!

The baseband is the modem, so LG2. If it's gone, then congrats. Everything else is in place. The only reason the notification remains in the first place, is because the update didn't go through the Android updater.

Thanks for that clarification. I understand that this zip kills the update nag but does it also update the baseband to LG2 where people are having wifi and 3G issues? If so it would be nice to just have a nag killer zip? Or edit the build.prop to show LG2 so that the system thinks its updated?

Also what exactly will happen if i do update the same update i already have? Just reinstall it?
Yes, it will just reinstall the ROM but it will also reinstall all System Apps which in turn will reinstall the keyboard making this process useless.
But you see, its somwthing within the system causing the auto correct to malfunction. Only a batch of people received the bad li3 update, which means if we find someone who uploaded the good one, then we could flash that to the correct deeper system settings that factory reset and jb aparently didnt touch. Or if anything find a lg8 upload and then flash that and then to li3 and if thats works then just jb after. But I dont think anyone has any links for the lg8 ota or li3 =(

hopefully the official updates from google i posted help..
Yes but u would have to install root which would mean that all u would need to do is take the keyboard apk from a good OTA and overwrite keyboard in sysyem/app on current rom. Wouldn't need to reinstall ROM and would be useless anyways because like I said, it would overwrite all system apps anyways.

Am I crazy for trying this?
Last night I tried to install a note 2 keyboard on my friends Sprint S3. (Same one I put on my AT&T S3 worked fine on my phone) Well it did not work and now im stuck at Android apps updating. Well I made a back up of the rom and went ahead and installed AXIS M. My question is if I reinstall the stock rom make a back up and replace the system.ext4.win from the good back up of the stock rom to the corrupt backup of the stock rom what are the chances I can reinstall the corrupt backup with the new sys file copied in place do you think it will work? Good grief, hopefully this makes sense...Thanks in Advance...

I tried it with stock 4.1.2 and it threw an error up, 'file with same name already exists'...
Still playing with that one.
edit: works with stock 4.1.2 (flash the zip)..It took a couple of reboots
To show up. Could have been my fault though, I uninstalled all the keyboards

So far I'm digging it. I've always been a little on the fence with swipe style keyboards on tablets because I have a tendency to tilt the tablet in a weird way. I'm going to force myself to use this for a while to see how things go. Thanks for the link!
Edit- I will say this... as somebody who likes to switch between swipe and standard typing, having both on the same keyboard is pretty much awesome.
Edit again- not to be a Debbie downer but I hope the final version has better prediction... Swift key still takes the cake from what I'm seeing. Perhaps in time with using it, it'll learn...after all, this keyboard learns as you type, no?
Example if I type "hibhello" sometimes it thinks that's what I meant. Other times "hi hello" is listed off to the side in the predictions list and not primary like it should be.

Dumb question - Google claims the current 4.2 keyboard is not finalized yet. I'm on Android 4.1.2, rooted, and installed the .zip through recovery mode.
When my official OTA 4.2 update comes down, will it thereby automagically replace my pre-released 4.2 keyboard with the finalized 4.2 keyboard? I'd assume yes, but I'd rather ask than not know. :good:

A couple things.
First, if you intend to just flash the OTA update (either through the updater app or recovery) it will fail. This is because the update is a bunch of patches, and the first step it does is verify the checksum of many files - including all the ones it intends to patch. If it is looking for the 4.1.x keyboard apk and it's been replaced with the 4.1.2 keyboard, it will fail the checksum verification and abort. So, depending on how stock your system is, you may have to revert it back first OR just download and flash the full 4.1.2 image (easier).
The patch method will not work, but the full image install will - and yes it will 'upgrade' you to the full and released version.

NP. I'm fairly stock too, outside of being rooted, custom kernel and custom recovery. I'll probably install the beta keyboard tonight.
So if I attempt the OTA patch, it will fail as well, unless I restore *everything* to stock (outside of root). It's easier to just download the full image from Google, apply it via fastboot, and re-install recovery/root/kernel afterwards.
Ok not sure if this is addressed but I'm using voodoo to protect root but the problem I'm having is every time I try to do that update I'm getting signed failure why? Next is how do I get the update to take?

Seconded and Thirded! We need to get a sticky that says "GOT AN OTA? READ HERE!!!"
EDIT:
But to answer the OP's question:
1. The reason the update is failing is because your system is modified. This is most likely because you have a custom recovery. If you really want to install the official OTA, you have to go back to the stock recovery. This is an Odin process, which you can find in qbking77's videos. I wouldn't recommend this method, as it introduces many steps which are messing with recovery.
2. If you have a custom recovery (which, if you're getting that error, means you have), all you have to do is install Freeza's Stock ROM. He keeps it updated on a regular basis and typically has it updated before a majority of the people have gotten the OTA (might take longer for more significant updates, but in my experience this is true). At a minimum, all you have to do is clear cache and dalvik cache and install the ROM (I'd recommend doing a full wipe, but that's just me). When you do this, your system will be identical as if you just took the OTA. All in one step! No need to unroot, to try to "protect root," anything.
