Is Google required to provide Jellybean to GN before GS3?
Since my GN is a VZW phone, I have a feeling that it will get Jellybean after the GS3 gets it.... or am I wrong?
Huh? why would Google be required to provide Jelly Bean? It's all open source.
New flagship device (Nexus tablet or Nexus 4) will get Jelly Bean first be cause it will be launched.
Galaxy Nexus (GSM: yakju/takju) will follow.
Nexus S (GSM) will follow.
VZW will need to wait for Verizon to approve of Google's update. I know I'm missing Sprint but you get the idea.
I am completely positive in telling you that the Galaxy Nexus will get Jellybean before the GSIII.

I don't believe it is required but the gnex will get it ages before the gs3 even dreams of having it because the gnex is an aosp device where as Samsung will take jelly bean and bloat it down with touchwiz and Samsung apps... then it goes to the carriers and they put their apps on and somewhere along the line it just might reach the gs3

I wouldn't bet on that. If we're talking about the GSIII in the USA I would agree with you but overseas or unlocked is a different story. I'm sure one of the overseas variants of the GSIII will see a Jelly Bean ota before we do (VZW/CDMA). We haven't even officially gotten 4.0.4 yet.
GNex will definitely get JB first. The G3 is running Touchwiz, so even when JellyBean is ready, Samsung will need to modify the IU. Regardless of the G3 being a "flagship device" Nexus devices will always get the updates first because they are pure Android.

"Required"? lol. Not sure what you mean by that. Google makes the OS. Who would be holding them accountable to be "required" to do something?
But you know that it will... I mean think about it. They make Jellybean for the new Nexus + old Nexus (that's us). Then they give it to Samsung (and others) who make it all skinned and stuff for their devices.
It necessarily gets JB first...

Hard to say. ICS was developed on a Nexus S.

Is this sarcasm?
Just curious, if it's true that ICS was developed on the Nexus S why did it take so long for the Nexus S to get it?
Couldn't find anything on google search for "ice cream sandwich develop on nexus s" so thought I'd ask...

Wouldn't they have the recuse themselves, since Google created them?
It reminds me of the movie "Robocop" where the robocop was programmed
with a specific directive preventing him from arresting exeutives of OCP.

I hear ya, and the same will likely be true for JB. I should've said, GSM will likely see it first; CDMA, probably not.

No, I was dead serious. First glimpse of ICS ever was on a Nexus S. As for why it took so long...because they probably wanted the GN to be released first.
Then they did their little peepee dance and canceled the 4.0.3 push shortly after it began for whatever reason.
The GNex and NS will both get Jellybean before the GS3 IMO.
Why would the carriers and/or Samsung upgrade the GS3 asap? What incentive do they have? They don't, so they won't.
Google isn't required to do anything but my bet us that gn gets jellybean much much sooner for the before mentioned reasons and judging by the past. If the hardware is capable it will get it. The nexus s got ics same day that the Verizon galaxy Nexus came out.

The CDMA (Verizon) Galaxy Nexus is not really an unlocked "Nexus" phone in the traditional Google definition (like the GSM pentaband version) in the sense that it is still "locked" to Verizon's will to get an update. Real Google phones get updates pushed directly from Google servers. Heck they can't even switch SIM cards or use other providers or use it abroad with international SIMs.

I have been wondering about that since I got my GN back in December.
Does Google have to get Verizon's permission in order to push OTA update to CDMA Galaxy Nexus phones?

Hi,
It may sound weird but can i flash verizon radio over sprint one?
Wanted because the sprint radios are giving me very less speed.

Yes, I believe you *can*. But it will not work and may brick your phone. So, don't
But the reverse is true, read somewhere that you can flash sprint radio on Verizon and its working fine.

Huh. I may be wrong then. Well, make sure you've got TEP and give it a go
Waiting someone to throw more light on this. Dont want a paperweight
PRL
I have heard of many problems actually flashing radios to SP GNEX. However, i am running a custome VZW PRL on my SP GNEX. Pretty simple process and much better coverage and data speeds. The instructions for that can be found in these forums.
Hi,I bought this phone from Vodafone Romania a couple months ago...when i decided to root the phone(because the bootloader was already unlocked when I bought the phone) and start flashing some roms i didn't knew if my devuce was Verizon or GSM. I tried updating the software but the latest was 4.1.1( a month ago),and now I think that tge phone was bought from Verizon and imported in Romania by Vodafone. I flashed a GSM system image and from that day i continued flashing GSM stuff. Now I'm almost sure that I have a Verizon model but not totaly sure and I'm a little scared flashing a verizon image...what are the risks if my phone is a GSM and i flash a Verizon image? Is that safe? What are the chances of bricking the device? I really need some advices. Thanks!!!
It's not a Verizon model. Verizon is CDMA and yours is gsm. Just convert it to a yakju and then you'll get all the Google updates.
There are a few guides on how to convert your non-yakju to a yakju. But since you're flashing ROMs, you don't need to worry much about it.

I started thinking about this because I have a strange delay when i want to lock the screen. It lasts like 1-2 seconds from the momentni press the power button to lock the screen before it actually turns off and locks. I am on bigixie 4.2.1 stock and stoxk kernel. I alreasy have yakju,i can see this in the bootloader, the only thung I can't understand is why I have that stupid loxk screen lag/delay and others don't...
That is actually a complaint about 4.2 ROMs. It sucks but there's not much you can do about it.
But it doesn't mean you have a Verizon gnex...

ok then,thanks anyway

There's many things op can do actually. I never had this problem when using my galaxy Nexus. It is not normal and op should replace his Rom with one that is more optimized for android 4.2 than that Rom because it isn't optimized very well as its a stock Rom.
Go with Cyanogenmod or any well developed Rom. Along with a kernel that is popular such as trinity or Franco kernel and you should see a significant performance boost and the lag hopefully will not be there.

Hey all.
I recently got my account terminated from Sprint (roaming, lol. It was worth having 5 bars all the time using Verizon's PRL), I purchased a Toro and am switching to Verizon. I was talking to a buddy of mine and he was saying the Toro has tons of problems, i did my research and some users said there were issues, while some said there were not.
Can anyone share their experience(s) about their Toro as well?
Thanks.

good day.
I personally haven't had any issues with my toro. The only real issue I ever had was updating from ICS to JB before we had the correct radios, that caused some call issues. Been pretty smooth sailing since then. My old roommate did have to send hers in for a replacement after the USB cable stopped working, which I have read others say happened to them too.
No problems
I haven't had problem one with my Toro.

A friend of a friend wants me to pick out a phone for them to use on Cricket.
I googled and found the Galaxy Nexus to be in his budget and it sounds like this CDMA version can be flashed to Cricket.
Does anyone know if there are CM10.1 or AOKP type ROM's that can be flashed for a Galaxy Nexus on Cricket?
Or if all this is a bad idea and there is a better phone for under $225 [used]?

I wont opinion on whether or not the CDMA variant will work on Cricket but find out the original carrier (Sprint or VZ) and look there.
I have a Verizon phone i fully flashed to cricket. Google the instructions, basically you flash the sprint radio then you can use any toroplus ROM that comes with CDMA tools. I got the instructions from cricketusers.com and the script to change the values i got from the via chip thread here. I'm on dho commotio but like i said any toroplus (sprint) ROM will do.
