So I would just like to know currently which ROM is better for gaming and everyday use. I know that JB was supposed to be much faster than ICS but I don't know how far it is in terms of porting. So which is better for gaming and everyday use? When I say gaming I mean with touchpad support fixes and stuff. Also please don't consider the speaker problem on JB as I have considered that. Any help is welcomed.
ICS should be more stable. At this point it's difficult to get a polished JB rom because there is no official rom from Sony to build something around it for Xperia Play, but some JB projects look promising so stay tuned.
Agree with this, JB seems promising though the FXP team are working hard at it. But if you want something with most things working go for an ICS based ROM

Is ICS still the way to go? Or is JB now the better alternative to GB?
JB is better at caching, which means you can multitask better and stuff. But on most JB ROMs panorama and video recording are not fixed yet, so if you want a fully working phone , go with ICS. I have also noticed that ICS is smoother in gaming, so if you are a gamer, you better stick with ICS. However, personally I would think that JB is smoother than ICS in general.

Stick with GB. ICS lags on gaming.
So far ive used ics and jb. But currently in love with cm10 jb. I love the stock feel with it. Lolz. Not a gamer much. Just wanted a full brewed working android phone.

Ics is definately the best. Currently ics beta 4.0.4. Has no bugs camera works and wifi works perfectly . Gaming is also very smooth with very little problems. Jelly Bean has a lot of bugs. And isnt very stable.
GO FOR ICS !!!!!!!!!!!!
Some jelly bean Roms are much smother then you every ics Rom.
For example: turbo ui

Hi guys, i don't know how many of you have flashed the ICS Rom on arc. I am using JJ's Hybird which I flashed about half a month ago and it gave me a pretty good experience.
There are too many new versions of ICS ROM now and I have no ideal which one to choose. Anyone has compared these new ICS ROM? Thanks
I've tried 3 or 4 and the best for me personally is Arconium. It's like the official ICS beta but supercharged!
Ice Cream Sony KA 12... Perhaps the best among other ICS roms..
If you don't mind me asking, have any of the ROMs you've mentioned overcomed the issues with video playback and recording as well as battery drain? And if so, have you found any other bugs that could prevent normal phone usage?
Thanks!
I'm using firebird ics v2 Rom and the battery life is as good as was my arconium v8.1
Nit a single bug found yet, and it's really smooth without supercharger
I love it already!

Arconium is the best IMO. Fully stock, neat and great battery life.
My ICS ROM
I'm using KA12 Ice Cream Sony released update 3/4. It still some bug in my phone. Losing Network operator, hang on boot screen, reload launcher. But it's still a best now.
I tested all another one, but no one liked me like CyanogenMod. The design, but the only think i didnt liked is the Contacts app, i got the GO Contacts to it.
I like this Rom, I hope a official version
I like this Rom, I hope a official version
Acronium is best
god day all you happy xperia play owner.
i will soon getting a new phone and i wont have any need for the xperia play as a actual phone. so this will be only a gaming device.
what im looking for is the perfect kernel and rom to give me as much quality gaming as possible.
currently on ICS++ and a ICS beta kernel from doom and am realy happy with it. only downside is emulators not working to a 100% (SNesoid. gameoid, n64oid and nesoid.) the issue is sound on = lagg and n64oid lags / reboots phone.
so what im looking for is a ICS rom (for the touch pads working) that gan give a good gaming experience.
I decided to go back to a stock 2.3.4 on my r800x. All custom roms and any that are ICS gave me lag in games, and low fps for some reason.

Jokawild isn't ICS.
I think that if you want everything to work like it should, you should go back to stock.
ICS seems to be more demanding overall over Gingerbread from what ive seen.
Xperia play is pretty dated Hardware wise so a really trimmed down version of Gingerbread might be the best option for gaming
Ive seen a few threads point to use either DiXperia, Jokawild, or TruAncestor
I'm using the Xperia S Style ROM and man games run faster than they did before. V6 Supercharged of course.

I can confirm this!
I just swithed to DiXperia (on of the many Xperia S roms) and i have seen a huge boost in performance with a full 200MB of Ram free while running.
The nice thing about DiXperia so far is that its completely barebones and you add what you want to it.
Definetely get on the Xperia S Roms
Agreed with above, im actually switching my phone over to an xperia S rom.
JokaWild is the best custom ROM that I know.. definetly great!
touch?
i can live with going back to GB since SE are not releasing official ICS. but is there anyway to have GB with touch pad support on emulators?
DarkForest Roms is a not bad options

Hi Guys,
As the title says, I would like to know which is the best Arc S Rom for overall performance/smootheness.
I'm currently on the stock Gingerbread Rom, and honestly I'm quite happy with it, but I really like some of the extra features that ICS has.
The thing is, with all the negative feedback people are giving about lagging and battery consumption, i'm apprehensive about updating.
So I would just like to hear some honest opinions on what do you find is the best ROM, and how does it stack up to the stock gingerbread one.
Thanks
Recently upgraded to the Mooded 4.0.4 rom and it has been great! Coming from Doom's 4.0.3 rom, the newer rom is MUCH better! Overall very responsive and as a result, i can run at 700mhz all day, with no noticeable lags! I did have GB once, but that was quite a while ago, so i can't really compare.. Hope this helps
Current setup: Mooded 4.0.4 rom + ArcKnight RC2 Kernel
GB.
Rooted 2.3.4, Removed all Junk apps.
Ill Tried so many ROMs, all are in my eyes crap.
****ty compatibility, all ics had Problems with 720p Recording, Crappy Games Compatibility and stuff
At least such Superlative ROM Titles like "Hd Gaming, Superfast, GPU Oc" are all lies
Arc isnt a good ICS Base.
No Dualcore, to small RAM.
Gb is The best Choice.
I love the ICS Holo Style.. But for me, Function over Design.
On my old Defy, with Quarx Cm9, all Games runs like Hell, Do a Test, putt Real Racing2 on your ArcS..
On Defy, a ****ing Performance, on Arc, a crappy Joke, even Menue Stuck every Second.
ARCONIUMS work is good.
Now, with GB on 1.6Ghz, ms Arc runs like Charm

Arc does not need even the OC to be fully capable of running ICS. I think you haven't tried Arconium ICS 2.4, the one with the software rendering enabled. Find it in the Dev section and BE HAPPY. It's smooth as hell, everything works fine and I haven't had ANY problems with it so far.
Performance & Smootheness...
I suggest Arconium(GB) , JJ's Hybrid(ICS).
CM7.2 from FXP130 is the best one. It is base on gingerbread. Amazingly fast and support themes. The only issue is it needed custom launcher. I suggested Go launcher. It have ability to overclock up to 1.6 ghz and many other stuffs. Tested and work with many games nice and smooth. Asphalt 6 running fluency. Shadow guns running fine with chinfire 3d by change open gl to nvidia. 200+ free ram. That it!
Edited: if you want holo theme. Theme it CM7.2 have lots of themes including ICS.
i recommend jjhybrid for performance and smoothness. i use this rom from 2.5v til now 3.2v...
im using arconium 4 with XArc kernel. at first it was a little bit laggy but after i installed latest V6 + kick ass kernelizer it was great. very smooth scrolling and everything works just fine
and i overclocked to 1,6GHz for daily use, no heat and stable with XArc

JJ's Rom & doomkernel smoother than butter

For perfomance, on GB - Stock 62, Acronium 8.2; on ICS - Acronium 4.0 (if you want stocklike ROM), JJHybrid, both with XArc or ArcKnight 3.5.1 OC kernel.
GB is suck! but the best Rom now for Arc is JJ HYBRID very smoothnes and really fast Recommend this rom. Sory my english

There may be a future development of android jelly bean for defy ? Or he does not have enough hardware?

i think a bit different
FROYO was the worst for defy
GB was very good
ICS is definitely the best ( some exceptions though )
JB - maybe it would be even better

I totally agree that Froyo was the worst, it's so slow and ugly :silly: Gingerbread was a huge improvement and Ice Cream Sandwich is an even bigger improvement, but at the moment not all the power of it can be harnessed by our DEFY, so I'd say that Gingerbread is the best. But Motorola is to blame for that, cause with those proper custom kernels, ICS would be flying So, if no way for custom kernels to run arises, I'm guessing that troubles with missing libraries will be even bigger with Jelly Bean, so we might just not even see a CM based on JB for DEFY
Found the Jellybean wallpapers and the new bootanimation over at Android authority!
>>>>>Android Jelly Bean Goodies<<<<<
Has anyone tried the new Jelly Bean VoiceSearch/GoogleQuickSearchBox on our ICS builds yet? I've been searching all over, no-one has yet to post it. You guys had any luck?
I've just tried Jelly Bean on Galaxy Nexus, it's way more faster than ICS because it has this Project Butter (newer hwa) which makes UI constant on 60FPS, so no more UI lags!
Jelly Bean is based on ICS so there won't be so much trouble about porting it because we already have ICS
I think the main question would be whether Project Butter will run with our Froyo/GB Kernel we have to stick with?!
This is one of Epsylon3's posts on Google+. He's just awesome!
Thats great !!
He can takes his time, we will apreciate it very much anyway.
defy developers are really making effort.
I didn't see that on any other device forums
The efforts have been fruitful since the long study made by our developers . They made it easy . since once you get to know how things work . and how the ideas are and what kernel functions and codes u shd be actually knowing . It becomes lots easy for implementation

it will awesome for all of us , if it happened some how , our developers are best of all others ,
we were just given eclair , we had froyo(modded roms) , GB roms ( best and great performance ) , and we had ICS all good , except some issues due to locked bootloaders, otherwise we at this time could had best ICS rom Available ....... developers are trying their best working day & night for us ,
I am sure that we all will have jelly bean ,( not fully functional though ), but our great developers will make it happen for us all .......
once this Bootloader thing gets solved some how , can't say how ,
we gonna have rocking roms with overall best performance than all the device present in this xda forum ...... and i can bet on this ......
atlast thanks to all the developers of DEFY & DEFY PLUS .......

I've been wondering. I've tested at least 30 xperia roms. From GB to ICS to Jellybean. And while the developers on this site have done a excellent, the majority of the custom roms, in my experience start to lag after a few weeks. Yes I know apps like Facebook will cause that but somehow I've only experienced none/little lag with the stock rom. So I can't help but wonder, in the long run are the Stock Roms provided by Sony the best? When it comes to the stability factor.
Yes ofcourse, thats how sony made it and they know best for our device.

Sorry to say man but none of JB ROMs can be stable. Even yours. You can only achieve smooth UI and partly smooth gaming (not in heavy games of course) but performance will never be same as GB. And the big pain in the ass is random rebooting when big workload. You're right that JB have better options but that's all.

I agree. A Question can kernels mess up the stability of a stock rom? Cause I've flashed a stock rom on a Lupus kernel mainly for overclocking and I think the stock kernel works better...
Is there a stock kernel available but only with overclocking added on it?

I dunno but LUPUS has no problems with stability. In what aspect stock kernel is better?
You can try DoomKernel. It's probably closer to stock than LUPUS and has overclocking ability of course.
