Att ROM question - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I've been using the ariel ROM from the att forum, and love it. But in one of the threads in this forum (I don't know which) someone said that flashing roms for different models can remove phone (asurian) insurance somehow.
My question is, can/will that happen with this rom? If it is possible, is there a way to modify the rom to make it think it's a T999 rom safely without messing too much up, like through the build.prop or something?
Sorry if that's a noobish question, but thanks for any help and advice.
*edit*
so i took the plunge and decided to see what i could do to change stuff around on the ariel ROM for the att variant. from what i can tell, what i did worked. my phone reads as the SGH-T999 instead of the I797. and there seems to be no compromised functionality and IMEI is still intact.

You run the risk of losing the imei number of the phone.
Sent from my SGH-T999

If your build.prop is changed to the att model then T-Mobile might see through the network that it's reporting your device as an att model, which they could share with the insurance company and since your insurance is for the T-Mobile version and not the att version they could deny claim.
This is just a thought and total speculation by me. I don't know any of that for a fact.

You don't need to run an AT&T ROM for that to happen.

So basically, I'm SOL in this department? That's a bummer, I really liked that rom. Thanks for the info though

so i updated the op, i decided to try some edits i was thinking might work and they did work. just thought it would be good to share.

[Q] This may be tough to answer

I am working my master plan to getting a new phone lol...
Does anyone know where I can find a picture of a G2/VISION's ABOUT PHONE stats before its been rooted or a roms been put on it? I dont wanna call TMOBILE and they ask me certain things like the software version and android version I'm running and I give them the information based off what rom I have.
Unless someone knows what those would be off the top of their heads.
Most phones have different factory shipped software, so what in particular are you looking for?
The reason its tough to answer is because you didn't state any info of value. Are you trying to exchange/return? Are you wanting to buy a new one?? I mean that kind of important don't you think?
If its a warranty exchange they won't ask you for any software numbers only ask about damages.
If buying a new one who cares anyways.
If those are wrong please fix your question.
Thanks

So... you're trying to scam the T-mobile CS support by giving them false information about a non-rooted phone rather than your rooted phone.
If you're going to get a warranty return and replacement the least you can do is unroot your phone (you'll have to when you return it...(or ffs at least put a stock pre-rooted ROM back on it)) when you call in so if you're not confident in your ability to BS them you can have the real numbers ready....
just downgrade and unroot.....

Just whatever info in the ABOUT PHONE STATS for a phone that hasn't been rooted and modded. Software version and stuff like that...
I have a G2 but I have had an issue and had several replaced because it'll just randomly shut off sometimes. And since I've replaced it quite a few times already I was ready to just ask them to replace my phone with something else.
Only thing is I just want to have that information so as they ask me I can be like this is what I have.

I have some info I logged down before rooting, but its from a stock Desire Z, not a T-Mobile version, will that do?
BTW: Another guy had similar reboot problems too here

Need advice pls.

So I have a T-Mobile Samsung gs2 that locked up on me. I took it to T-Mobile store and they refered me to a shops that ended up fixing it for me. I believe they changed the imei number. But when they did this it went back to GB when I originally had the 4.0.4. Now he said he could flash and install update but will charge. So my question is it a regular rooting and flashing which I know I can do myself or is it really something only he can do. I really don't feelfeel paying for something I know I can do myself. Thank you in advance
Gingerbread is what originally comes with the phone, there was an upgrade to ICS later on.
To your question, If its stock, you can just upgrade to ICS through kies (which he's gonna do). No rooting etc necessary, unless you want to later. Do it yourself, he's scamming you!

I think you should be more worried about the changed IMEI number!

I thought the same thing but when I did the upgrade through Kies it ended up getting locked again so I had to take it back to the guy. That's when he mentioned rooting and flashing. I told him I could do it but he made it seem like it's something he should do.

Yea after finding out what he they did I looked up what it was to change the imei number, because I never had this problem before, I understand its a bad thing. But I wasn't the one who did it. I was actually surprised T-Mobile told me to take it in to have this done. But what I've learned is mobile can't tell when this is done. So I'm ok with it and besides soon as the note 2 comes out I'm selling the phone. It's unlocked as well so I'll prob sell it to an AT&T user. Thanks for heads up though bro

You could also use ODIN, instead of Kies, to flash the stock recoveries, you just need to look for the files on here!
Edit, found a guide that will help you get back to "fresh" stock, so that you can upgrade to ICS with Kies.

I get where's he's coming from but some honesty goes along way. Cuz to make it seem like only he can do it isn't coo. I would've rather have him be honest than to try and trick me into having him do it. But thanks man. Hope your right cuz if not then I'm stuck taking it back to him.

I assumed he was scamming because the OP mention the IMEI number was changed (fishy), and mostly likely flashed a custom or modified gingerbread ROM, that's why Kies won't read the phone. If the repair person brought the phone back to full stock, it should be able to connect no problem, which doesn't look like he did.

yea he did change the imei number. and kies updated just fine. it brough my phone back to 4.0.4 but the problem was that after the update the phone got locked again. im guessing the imei number went back to its original. so my thing is im wondering if i root and flash an updated zip will my phone lock again. from my understanding flashing shouldnt mess with the imei number but thats why i wanted advice from people on this site. im still a nood but was able to learn what i know from this site. thanks again bro
imei
I dont think the imei is a problem.
I had in the past the galaxy and glaxy 4g that had a changed imei (dou to unlocking)
it never gave me any problems.

So after changing imei number you rooted and were able to to flash without a prob? Now is this just a one time flash or multiple?
One can change the IMEI number? that is crazy, this is like changing the VIN number of the car, how is it even possible?

Yea you can. It's not something I recommend doing because it is illegal. But so are bootleg movies and burning music from the internet. You can Google info on how to do that though.

Bought new boost ET4G, can i flash sprint roms, kernels, etc?

I have been on Sprint forever with an Evo or many Evos. Decided to try boost and the E4GT or Galaxy 2 as they call it. I rooted it and obviously being a flashaholic with my Evo I want to do the same. I haven't got any solid answers....can I flash all roms, kernels, modems etc? I know Im a sellout for going to boost...but times are tough these days. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks xda...you all rock!!!!
I'm not a boost user but i have read posts that its ok to do so. Many posts.
My thinking is this; if a flash takes you away, a nandroid will bring you back.
Give the section a search, this has been asked several times before.
No rudeness intended at all, just letting you know the answer is in here.

I appreciate your response....and I agree that it should work. But I tried to run mobile odin for example and it said device not supported. Assuming because in the model name it has the added BST after D710. I just don't want to brick if I don't have to....and yes, nandroid is great if that option doesn't get eliminated by messing up something first
If you don't mind waiting a bit, ill try to gather the threads up and post links in here.
Doing the xbox thang at the moment.
About the best i can do unless a boost user chimes in.

hey you made a smart move if you dont mind not having roaming...that is why i also switch, but I have a sprint ET on Boost
more then likely why mobile odn does not work cause your build.prop does not equal......
ro.product.model=SPHD710
do a backup and change the setting it kinda like tricking the program you have a sprint verison.
Great idea....can you tell me the best way to change the build.prop? Never went that route....I guess if I install a sprint Rom it would probably do the same, right? Thanks you guys for the insight and ideas....greatly appreciated!!!
If you flash a rom yes it will be the same. If you can get root using a one click you can use rom toolbox to edit your build prop. I would just suggest using the one click for fi27. Use the no data version to keep your data like games and apps. Then by using the one cli k it shout give you cwm anyway.

[Q] Helping fiance root his Candian/Bell S3 SGH-1747M

The thing is, we weren't even going to root it. I thought that Teamviewer Quicksupport supported all S3's.
I looked and he is running 4.1.1. So...I'm not sure what the big deal is, but no matter what, Quicksupport is not "supported" when we go to the Play Store. If there is a simple fix, I would love this, because he is not tech-savvy and this is why we got this model.
However -
I've only rooted one phone in my life before, when there was only really one way of rooting. It seems I have read that problem abound with these S3 models - more specifically, IMEI may be lost, and choosing exactly which way to root, since there are varying stock kernels.
I see this thread here on the IMEI backup/injection. Am I safe to assume, that is where I start? (I have read that the Bell is just a ATT version, so will the ATT version instructions work here? I will ask in that thread but not sure).
Then - once that is done - I have to pick a way to root it that works for Bell's SIII SGH-1747M. That is where I am running into a bit of a wall. I wonder if I can get someone who has done this with this model to help me out and pick a safe way to mod it? Do I need to post more info to help decide this? I can get on his device and get whatever info is needed.
I also read, that perhaps Bell's stock kernels either do or do not need unsecuring (not quite sure after a lot of reading) before doing anything else. I really am trying to learn - it's just all very daunting and when I'm reading and not understanding, I can still read til the sun explodes and never be able to do this correctly. Well, maybe if I had an unending supply of phones.
Thank you for your help...
I would just ask in the IMEI and other forums but they are not available to me (either post count too low or I'm not sure).
Sincerely,
Foxdev

Also, does anyone know with this model if Teamviewer Quicksupport just doesn't work at all? I cant get answers from Teamviewer. If it did I wouldn't need to root the stupid thing!
i don't understand why you believe you need to root to have this app supported. i attempted to use the app and it told me i needed to download an app from here. try that before you root?

Lol be nice I had to flash int s4 recovery and modify updater script and build prob to flash custom roms so probably will be the same for this not much love for us Canadians on custom rom front @Spudnubs
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
As long as the hardware is the same on the phone, which basically all g4's are, then you shouldn't have a problem. Canadian models have always had a us counterpart. People should know that by now and if they don't and this is their first phone they have no business rooting it in the first place.
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
You don't really learn anything until you brick a device though.
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
Wow guys this is terrible...
To answer the question, usually I always root and modify my canadian device with T-Mobile's. Never had a problem, since they use the same bands as my carrier (Videotron).
EDIT: Of course they come with the usual T-Mobile crap that I cannot use, but with root, there's nothing you can't remove.
Tmobile doesn't always have the same phones as the Canadian carriers.... That's a stupid thing to say. You don't just pick up a phone, see there's no forum for your device specific and head over to the Tmobile one. That's how you brick it. When root comes to our phones I am sure there will be 100% clear instructions on how to flash and which device it applies for. Stop worrying about root so much, be patient and know what you're doing.
True that and att phones are usually our counter part well atleast for all the phones I owned before
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
Unfortunately i don't think root will ever arrive for G4. Not unless LG and carrier allow unlock of the bootloader. I know people are working on it but it seems like an impossible task for anybody other than LG. I had similar experience with Xperia Z2 and had to sell the device at a loss just to get one that i could unlock/root.
I really do hope it happens but i doubt it ever will.
Well they did eventually release it for the G3....
Why are people going around saying that there isn't a possible root when we've clearly seen proof of it happening.
The has barely been out for a while now and you're all expecting it to come instantly right on release date. Relax. Seriously. If you wanted something you can root instantly go buy another phone.
