Samsung has slowly been getting better at their update release cycles - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

amsung has slowly been getting better at their update release cycles, as it looks like the unlocked international version of the Galaxy S III will be receiving its first major software update within 6 months of its release. According to CNet’s Andrew Hoyle, Samsung has confirmed that the flagship Galaxy S III will be receiving the update [...]

Something I've learned about Samsung: press releases are meaningless. Until it's actually officially released to your device, it's subject to infinite delays and even cancellation.

I am waiting for the JB for the SGS3. The last OTA update was kind of minor.

So Samsung is responsible for updates with carriers?

Ics coming next month?

Yesterday, during an Android gathering in LA, LA Gadgets Examiner confirmed with an Android insider that Google, HTC
and Samsung are doing everything they can to bring Android 4.0 to their smartphones. The EVO 3D and Galaxy S II were
specifically mentioned as scheduled to receive the update sometime next month.<===from talkandroid

It may be released next month by Google. But the US carriers are going to take a couple months to get them to us, the consumer.
For example, Samsung already gave Sprint the update for our phones beginning of October, but we won't be getting it until December.

I bet if that update was for the IPhone Sprint would have rolled it out already and wasted no time in supporting it.
Now I am talking about Apple updates here not Samsung. Just saying that if Sprint would have gotten a update from Apple the Apple users would have gotten it already. Unlike all the other users who has to wait and wait and be treated like a red headed step child.

The difference is that Apple sends updates directly. Samsung goes through Sprint. Sprint doesn't have much of a say as to when an Apple update gets released.

You never know, it could be ICS. The Galaxy Nexus has ICS and it's Samsung. It's not too far fetched to say that Samsung has an ICS build for our phone already.
..... Even if they said next month expect it 2013 ... This is samsung.

That was also before they made the promise to deliver the updates to devices that can get them in a reasonable time.
The moment got 3 or 4 updates in it's lifespan. It actually had 2.1 before the Hero.
The Epic got boofed sure, but still, I think this one will be different, and I think the Epic is the reason they didn't go with a whole new form factor.
Hopefully Samsung will follow HTC's lead. HTC announced 8 devices today that will be getting ICS in early 2012. 2 Sprint phones are on that list. http://tinyw.in/Fw1H

Samsung offically confirms JB for S3 in Oct.

http://www.tmonews.com/2012/09/samsung-says-galaxy-s-iii-jelly-bean-update-coming-in-october/
Figured I would post this, didnt see a thread on it yet. (Other then rumors and so)
Wonder when we can get some good official custom roms then. =D
Damn its about time, I've been wondering if they were going to get away from the leak updates and put out the official release. Thanks for posting.

They say October for the unlocked S3 variants. I bet it will be at least Christmas time before we see anything from T-Mobile.
Seeing as we already have a couple of leaks and the last one was pretty well polished I would not be surprised if the official update got leaked ahead of the October timeframe.
Awesome find. Although it was kind of a given that the JB OTA would be coming soon, considering how smooth and almost perfect LI3 is.
Kudos to Sammy and Tmobile for making this happen!

Once Samsung releases the ROM to each carrier (to add their bloatware), its really no longer Samsung's responsibility.
I wouldn't mind it if the international ROMs could be easily ported to our devices.
Definitely a carrier based problem not Samsung, I am on AT&T right now and they took forever to update the Galaxy SIII to Jelly Bean which it really didn't matter to me because I am rooted with stock Android (Task650 AOKP)

If you click back through to the source of the story, they only list the international models, not the carrier specific models. There is no way to know if Sprint will actually make a release of anything. Based on the device being released just last fall, I'd expect more updates, but I'm never assuming anything until a release has a Sprint model number or RDFs start leaking out.

If Samsung can still be working on the outdated Sprint S2 perfecting Jellybean I don't see why they won't work on Keylime for the Note 2 or S3. Probably the last major updates these two devices get but I can see it coming. After all it seems like trying to stay up with updates is what Samsung has been aiming for the past few years. Doing so good at it I just finished reading a forbes article were even they give props to Samsung for keeping up with updates better than others. On another note I'm tempted to get an S4 after reading about the gaming capabilities. Opinions?

Lol. One of the many, many reasons why I won't but htc ever again! But again like I said the sprint epic touch is one is the last to get jelly bean. It still hasn't but the rest of the world had so yeah I wouldn't and don't expect 5.0 for us sooner than others. It simply won't happen. Never has. But I'm good with the many leaks I'm used to. Yes I totally agree with you. Team sextape is amazing and has blessed us with multiple builds on our e4gts But, multiple s2s around the world in many different regions have already had this update pushed out by way of OTA and WE HAVE NOT. Hence why we are last. And will always be LAST. Even Canada has pushed it out and Sprint has not. We only make up so many users on Xda. Most users do not even know what sextape is lol. So that's why we are saying we are last... Because we ARE!

Agreed. Sprint has gotten better as far as in the US. And like we have mentioned.. We have sextape lol. I've had jelly bean on my e4gt since November of last year. If the 4.1.2.update is any indicator, my guess would be summer 2014.
These announcements are ALWAYS for the international version...it takes the US carriers months to put out their updates from there. International versions do not have as much restrictions as in the US and the carriers here reserve the right to control updates. And AT&T is notoriously last in those carriers.

The 4.3 release for the S3/S4/N2 is pretty tied up to the release of the Galaxy Gear "smart" watch.
Event though the Gear will probably not sell like hot cakes, I'm pretty sure carriers will want their share of the pie sooner than later. Because of this, I'll hold on to my pink glasses and expect the update to be made available by the holidays.
I would also expect Samsung to put some pressure on the carriers to do so...

You might want to check the AT&T Wireless website and make sure it has your phone listed. Maybe even call AT&T and make sure they have the proper IMEI in their system.
