hi. I am having an issue with my stock galaxy s 3 alarm. When I set the alarm to a time and set with vibration and melody and pick any song (sounds or my files) it will only vibrate. I know I haven't blown the speaker because it still plays music from it. Can anyone help me with my problem?
Sgs 3
I747m
Sasktel
Still stock. No roots or attempts to root
Never mind. I found out what was wrong. Appearently with the new update they moved alarm volume with default volume. Not notifications. So now I have to have my sound on to have an alarm.
Can anyone suggest an app that will mute all other volumes without muting my main sound? And possibly put it back to the way I had it after? And it needs to be free until I can get a credit card or Google accepts visa debit.
Edit: also the app must be able to work on a non rooted phone. Hopefully I'm not asking for a whole lot or posting in the wrong spot.

That's weird. I always keep my phone on vibrate at night too. Try another alarm app. I've found the Samsung default alarms to be unreliable anyways.

They all do. I tried a good portion of ones including DoubleTwist alarm.

My phone plays notification sounds while I'm in a call. Is that normal and how do I stop it?
Bump. Help me out. it's my wife's phone and she's busting my balls!

What kind of sound?
Same as the alert sound, or different? is it random or timed?
How often, and how loud?
Can the other person hear it?
I'm running M'ICS and I don't have that issue. Maybe check into a different rom or see if there is a mod for your current one.

I'm bumping this thread as I have the same problem! Using stock text messaging app.
On Gingerbread it would only make the notification sound if I was not on a call. Now after ICS update it makes the same sound while on a call or off the phone. Its horribly annoying while on a call because its loud and both parties can hear the notification. Any fix to this?
I don't want to turn notifications off as I like to hear them but not while on the phone.
Here are the stock FF18 Touchwiz Email and MMS apps that I modded to be silent during in call use for the Blazer ICS rom:

Please backup your rom before flashing these, just in case.
tdunham, thanks but your Silence.MMS zip didn't work for me. I'm stock rooted on ICS with AGAT recovery.
It installed fine and I tried messing with both the sms volume right from the app (put it on default, silent, cloud etc) and also messed with system volume the same way. Its either silent all the time or makes a sound all the time (on a call or off the phone).
I guess I'll just need to keep it silent and use the led light to notify me or use Handcent which is fine but I was hoping to avoid having to use a 3rd party app. Oh well, its a minor issue. Thanks anyway.
I'm sorry, I was sure that would work for you. I've had good feedback about it. If it's any consolation, the stock apps aren't the only one's that do it. My 3rd party Navigation app 'Waze' does it also.
So when I had my sensation, my phone had the Facebook pop when I get a message or post... Since upgrading to the a S3, my phone no longer pops...I checked the settings on the Facebook app and that sound and notification is enabled but it just vibrates. Even in the Facebook notifications menu when I select the pop it just is silent... Any ideas?

Is there anything in the sdcard/media/audio/notifications/ folder? There is a Facebook sound in that folder for me.
I don't have notifications turned on so not sure on the making a noise part.

it's there...but when I try to play it and listen to it, its just silent but acts as if its making the sound...any ideas.

I tried to listen to it on my tablet and it works, so I copied and pasted it to my dropbox and opened it via music player on my GS3 and it gives me just slience no Pop...phone doesn't play the sound...

Here's some of the stuff I've done in the past to rectify goofy notification problems.
I would triple check all of your volume sliders first. Sometimes the volume slider for a particular function is turned on (Media, Notifications etc) but you have silent/vibrate turned on and in the settings the system knows to follow your silent/vibrate choice regardless of where the volume slider is set to (I assume, this is so that when you decide to go out of silent/vibrate mode, it will return to your previously selected volume for that feature). In this case, that volume may be set to 0.
I've had a few quirks like this where I assumed I had volume turned on for something, but for whatever reason it was following a rule in some setting someplace which overrides the volume setting. Or, even when coming out of silent/vibrate, the volume setting was 0 anyways, so it's like nothing got changed.
Also check your phone settings for notifications etc. I've noticed that sometimes when an App has notification settings, they can quarrel with the phone settings and shenanigans ensues.
You might also try getting another 'Pop' ringtone. Zedge works well.

Thats interesting... i wonder what the format is.. Thats the only thing i can think of keeping it from playing..
It's a m4a file... I went and downloaded the exact same pop from zedge and set it as my Facebook notification and it works... Weird

I've had a few android phones for work but finally bought an s3 as my personal phone getting rid of my iPhone 4. I love it except for when I'm listening to music I hate that it totally blocks out the song to play the notification, sometimes I don't even hear the notification just hear my phone vibrate but my music doesn't even stop it keeps playing but is silent. Is there any kind of work around this?

if you're on Jellybean use blocking mode and turn off notifications.
If you're on ICS, you can put the phone in silent mode but that turns off the ringer too.
Ahhh didn't think about using that for that. I don't mind getting the notification just don't want it to completely silent my music.

Elaborate on using blocking mode.... where do you enable/disable it?
settings/blocking mode
you can disable incoming calls
notifications
alarms
and the LED indicator. I have mine set to turn off led and notifications between 11 PM and 7 AM.
I listen to music in my car through the headphone jack, and it's annoying when every notification will sound, lowering the volume of my music playing. It'll bring back my music after the tone plays, as it should
This happens under all 3 profiles.
When I'm not plugged into the jack, all is at it should be based on whatever profile is engaged. The phone will only vibrate under the vibrate profile, music blasting at continuous, unbroken volume.
I've tried messing with the sound settings and profiles, but I can't seem to rid myself of the annoyance

Have you tried any automating apps like Tasker or Llama? You can set up profiles in those that detect when certain variable conditions are met, such as headphones plugged in and charging. If you have any questions on how to do this, I would be happy to help.
For example, I currently have a Tasker profile that turns on Bluetooth in the morning and once it detects it is connected to the Bluetooth in my car, it increases the media volume to max, lowers the notification volume to zero, and starts Mort for my audio book for my morning commute. In the evening, it starts Slacker radio instead for my commute home.

Why thank you! Will try this out right now!

And Tasker seems rather complicated to set up!

Yeah, I admit Tasker is a bit daunting at first, but once you learn some stuff, it's awesome! I started out using llama, which can do a lot of stuff while still being free. Tasker is just more feature packed and can do other things like creating scenes and even make an installable app.
Just as a quick rundown, Tasker is set up with Profiles, Tasks, Scenes, and Variables tabs. You start with either the profiles or tasks. The profiles set up the conditions of which you want your task to run from. To start, you can ignore the scenes and variables. I think there's even an " easy" or " simple" mode if you want .
If you would like more help in how to set one of them up, I would be happy to assist. Otherwise, there's a lot of other resources out there with more knowledge than me.

Just checking to see if you got it to work the way you wanted. If not, I would be happy to help!

Sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean. Are you asking about how to use Tasker or Llama to change the notification volume when plugged in?

No. I'm asking if there is a mid to flash through recovery to disable notification in headphones when in silent or vibrate mode.
My old phone made a notification in headphone only in "normal mode" and it was better!

Sorry, but no, I don't know of any mod to apply in recovery. Instead, I have a tasker profile set up so that whenever my Bluetooth headphones are connected, the notification volume is set to zero.
Otherwise, have you used an xposed module like gravity box to make sure your ringtone and notification volumes are linked? I'm not sure, but perhaps that will make it so the notification is muted when in silent or vibrate mode.

So I'm loving my G3 but there is a small issue that I'm having. I have my general notifications set to one sound and my ring tone set to another like I have with every other Android phone I've owned. For the most part everything works perfect, but several times I got a notification and it played my ring tone. Not for one single app either, it was different ones. Some apps I could check the notification sound and within the app it had it set for the ring tone. I change it, but other apps don't give that option, like games.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to correct this?
Sent from my LG-D851 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Still having this issue. It seems like any app that has notifications that I cant manually assign a sound to within the app settings will sometimes use the ringtone sound rather than the notification sound. Has no one else had this problem?
